I am extremely disappointed in how this facility is being managed. There is no accountability, no improvement, and it feels like no one cares.

In the last 3 months or so it seems this branch is running on fumes. Machines are broken and never fixed; all stair steppers are broken and they just lost another treadmill. No one is ever at the front desk; overall hours are reduced; and the rates keep going up. Something in management has changed in the past several months and everything just seems very off. Curious where the money is going? If you ever been to a YMCA in a different state like Minnesota or Wisconsin; the difference is like night and day compared to this location; but why?

Love the community, plenty of equipment, the best treadmills and one of the few gyms with a sauna! Staff is wonderful. Occasionally if you show up in the early morning no one is here for opening. Emergencies happen sure, but there needs to be some kind of notification system because I'm sitting in a parking lot (its an hour past opening 0530) with a lot of confused and frustrated people because this is not the first time this has happened. They also close early on Fridays and weekends

Went for the second time today. I forgot where they have you check in. First, I had to make room for myself because there was a crowd of people just standing there to reach what I thought was the check in device. I tried it, and the woman behind the desk barks 'you can't check in there...are you from here?'. Am I from here? what the hell does that have to do with anything. I said yes and she told me where to check in. I shook it off no big deal and I even said loud and clear THANK YOU because she did technically help me. No response. To say I felt stupid and unwelcome is an understatement. No good!

I believe one of the most important areas the Habersham YMCA needs to improve is how children with autism and neurodivergent children in general are supported and treated in your programs.
As a parent of an autistic child, I have experienced firsthand how inconsistent and, at times, exclusionary the response can be when a child with different needs doesn’t fit into the program’s structure. The pattern I've seen is this: when staff don’t know how to handle a behavior or when a child needs extra support, the default action is to call the parent to pick them up. There’s little to no effort to understand the child’s needs or provide accommodations, and it creates the impression that children with autism are being treated as a disruption instead of as members of the community who deserve inclusion, patience, and care.
This approach is not only discouraging it’s harmful. It reinforces exclusion and sends the message that neurodivergent children are not welcome unless they can mask or behave in neurotypical ways. That’s not inclusion, and it’s not what the Y claims to stand for in its mission of youth development and healthy living for all.
I understand that your staff are not clinicians, and I don’t expect them to be. But I do expect basic training in autism awareness, emotional regulation strategies, and positive behavior support to be part of your standard training not just as a box to check, but as a real investment in the children and families you serve. Autism isn’t rare anymore. If the YMCA wants to serve all children, your programming needs to reflect that reality.
There also seems to be a lack of structure when it comes to behavior management overall. In our situation, I was never presented with any write ups, documentation, or behavior intervention plan. There was no formal communication process about how behavior concerns would be addressed. The first solution offered was exclusion not support. That’s deeply frustrating and disappointing, especially from an organization that prides itself on being family focused and community centered.
If a child is struggling, there should be a clear, compassionate process in place:
Step by step documentation of incidents,
Communication with parents to build understanding, collaboration to create individualized support plans, access to outside resources or specialists if needed.
This doesn’t just benefit autistic children, it helps your staff feel more confident and your programs run more smoothly for everyone.
I urge the YMCA to consider these specific improvements:
1. Provide mandatory autism and neurodiversity training for all staff working with children.
2. Implement a formal behavior support protocol including documentation, parent involvement, and tailored strategies.
3. Create a system for inclusion that actively supports, rather than sidelines, children with disabilities.
4. Communicate clearly and compassionately with families instead of defaulting to sending children home when challenges arise.
The YMCA has the opportunity to be a leader in inclusion, but right now, it feels like children with autism are being left behind or worse, quietly pushed out. That needs to change.
I hope this is received in the spirit of hope and advocacy with which it’s given, not just for my child, but for every child who deserves to feel accepted and supported in your care.

At one time I loved this YMCA but they have continually increased pricing (without notice) and haven’t made any improvements. It doesn’t make any sense that an Individual has to pay $50 a month but a 2 adult household with kids only pays $20 more. If they offered a basic membership for an individual who just wants the gym for like $20-$25 I would have stayed.
Also I understood at first putting the guided equipment up front but after time it makes no sense that half of the gym equipment is around the corner in a different room. It should be flipped back since you don’t use the guided equipment ever in combo.
It’s just sad because the people there are great and it’s always welcoming but when there’s 4-5 gyms within 5 min that are nicer and $10-20 a month for that portion it just doesn’t make sense

We are from a different state I have nationwide membership This morning at 9:10 am date march/15/2025 we went to this ymca brand unfortunately we forced a recism block fat lady that wear glass at the front desk she decline to give me her name, she was extremely rude we have to file up 10 pieces of paper and wait at least 10 minutes because we are Muslims, and have different color, I do not know what when all this racism will go away from this country, finally because of being Muslim she did not allowed us to go there for a few minute work out

Called ahead and was assured I could attend as a guest, but upon arrival, I was turned away without empathy or consideration, all due to a technicality about the 'nationwide network.' Disappointing to see such impersonal treatment, especially during the holidays, when kindness and community spirit should prevail.

FIX THE AC IN THE BASKETBALL COURT!
The basketball court is located upstairs, as we all know heat rises. The AC unit has been broken for years. which is unacceptable. It's 2024, this should have been fixed before now. It's discouraging for anyone to want to play basketball or continue a membership there.

Summer camp for my 7 year old could not be worst, lost clothes and bit by fire ants in the first 3 days. When you ask, nobody is responsibility of anything, they just have perfect excuses. The person in charge of the summer camp is unreachable nobody knows where is she. Don’t recommend this place at all.

Staff and people who come here are really nice.
But after only having a membership for two months I’ve decided I’m going to cancel it.
The facility is absolutely disgusting. It looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in about 2/3 years.
I don’t even feel comfortable taking my shoes off to change in the men’s locker room.
I guess the new district manager Krystal McGee doesn’t have time to over look the ymcas in her district. Sad.
Anyways, hope this company gets there act together. Their are a lot of gyms out there for way less that are way cleaner…

I was torn on how many stars to leave for my review. However, after a lot of thought I've decided that it is definitely one star due to lack of communication and response from every level of management. The volunteer coaches are all extraordinarily phenomenal at what they do and this review in no way reflects their level of coaching. That being said, never getting a response back when questions are asked to any of the directors or management is absolutely uncalled for. There have also been questionable choices made, along with different manipulation and lying tactics that make having trust in this YMCA very hard. I will say, if you can handle this organization and untimeliness well this is an excellent place to grow your child in Youth Sports. The current Youth Sports director has so far been excellent, and no complaints about him and this review is about all other directors and areas of this YMCA.

I tried the day pass to see what it was like. For $48 a month it's not worth it. The steam room is very dirty. I thought it was old rust on the tiles but it was dirt. The sauna has old built up debris in the corners. I was only thinking of joining to use the amenities but it smells like an infection in the wet area. The cleaner came around and wiped the sinks and door handles...just not a clean place .

Lots of interesting classes for no additional fees. There's also an Active Older Adult program with things to do for seniors (e.g., pickleball, hikes, disc golf, bowling, lectures, bike rides, weekend trips).
The staff are friendly and supportive. The facility is a little worn around the edges, but renovations are planned for 2024.
Great value for the monthly fee! Highly recommended.

The staff and fellow members are top-notch, so it truly pains me to leave this review. I also appreciate the Y's mission, and am happy to have supported it for years now. But after working out 3-5 times a week at the Habersham Y over the past year, I can say definitively that this gym is not well kept, and is grossly overpriced.
There are many reasons I canceled my Y membership. Here are the main 3:
#1) The locker rooms are not well-kept, sanitary or up-to-date. From broken shower heads left running for weeks on end to black mold and dirt in the saunas and showers, to unclean toilets, broken lockers and faucets, busted lights... the list of issues go on and on.
The bottom line is this: the men's locker room is outdated, unclean and left blatantly unattended to.
#2) The gym itself leaves a lot to be desired, especially given the space restraints. The equipment is outdated, and they don't have many things that are common at other gyms. But that's alright, I can accept that. No one's asking for the Y to be top-notch. What's not acceptable is the response to broken equipment. For example, the Habersham Y has this cycle machine. It broke about a year ago. I reported it. It NEVER got fixed. Here's what will happen: they will put a sign on a machine that says it's "tired, and will be back soon." The problem? It goes months without being addressed. In the case of the stationary bike, I quit trying. I accepted that the YMCA's of Coastal Georgia have lower standards than in other areas of the country.
3. Which brings me to #3... the overall low standards set by the YMCA's of coastal Georgia. After talking to other members who moved here from out-of-state, we came to this conclusion: a lack of competition in the market has allowed the YMCA of Coastal Georgia to get lazy, accept low standards and fall way behind the times. Other areas have much nicer facilities (heck, even the Islands Y is WAY better than the other branches within CG). It is sad that it took another gym moving to the market to push the YMCA to upgrade its power lifting platforms.
I just joined a new gym nearby. For less than half the cost, you get a facility three times the size that is clean, with up-to-date equipment that WORKS, where you can tell they are actually trying to put forth a competitive, respectable product. No, they do not have the mission of the Y. But one has to wonder, if the YMCA of Coastal Georgia is willing to take its members for granted, and run its organization like this, is it deserving of our donations to begin with?

We are PROUD to be a YMCA family! My 7 year old is in YBase at his elementary school. He had a BLAST playing basketball on the Y team this year (and got a medal at the end of the season, which he WILL NOT stop talking about). My husband and I signed up for EGym and we are both working out 4-5 times a week (I have bicep muscles, apparently!) And I take the Monday 8:30am yoga class every week with Theresa. My boys will both more than likely be in summer camp coming up too.
The impact that the Y has had on our lives over the past year has been remarkable.

Clean gym . There is no No A/c upstairs in the basketball gym. It’s hard to breathe In the summer time due to poor circulation and humidity .If the gym closes at 6 the basket ball court upstairs closes 1 hour sooner. I got a membership there to practice basketball. If you want to lift down stairs you can. The gym rules discriminate against those who play basketball upstairs. When I asked them why do they close the basketball court a hour early. Staff stated that it’s bz they clean the gym. I Suggested they the gym be cleaned before or after hours to insure that we the people are getting what we pay for . Nothing has changed. This years of no change . Other than that. The gym is a great family environment.
