Fix the hours! Stop having crazy hours for the pool to be closed. Have consistent gym hours don’t change them and have the pool and sauna open if the gym is open.
Realize that when your pool is closed so is the sauna. No one can keep up with y’all’s hours because they are constantly changing. Might be the only YMCA with such inconsistent hours.

The YMCA is full of it! From paying so much money from $170 a week for summer programs, to 70$ a week during the week for school.
Summer programs you pay all that money for your kids to have to bring there on lunch. What am I paying for? They didn’t go on half the trips. The staff made nasty remarks to my daughter that she look older than what she really was! 10yrs old!
I asked for financial help filled out the application for it! Nothing years my kids went there! I mean decades! The staff made a remark about me picking up my daughter I didn’t even have to say her name. The lady said I know who your daughter is “you the lady that needs assistance.
I didn’t find anything out until my 10yr old daughter came in told me what was going on. Then I get a email after I called the ymca. They don’t care. Come sending me emails about a balance! You will never get it! After I begged for assistance. No thank you!

Professional , tried many YMCA and health clubs. Moved here few months ago. pros and cons.
Starting with cons:
SAUNA:
The absolute worst sauna I have ever witnessed. You can't really start to describe how bad it is.
THE HOURS: They close the pool area from 1 to 4 (pool area includes pool, steam room, hot tub and sauna).
The close the pool area on SATURDAYS at... 2:00 PM! unacceptable. Sunday open only couple hours in the PM.
Pros:
Great pool and Swim wide lane if you swim (WHEN ITS open , closed 1 to 5 unless its summer time where they have camps)

Life guards might be training or talking. But certainly not working. Sometimes the director just chats with them instead of them doing their jobs. A kid would probably drown during swimm classes before they could get ot them from 50 yards away when not paying attention
Instructor is great, but I wouldn't do classes here

Went to a birthday party here. First, they made the parents watch their kids thru the window because they were over capacity. Then, they came and told me my kid couldn't swim anymore because he was running with out even letting me talk to my child first to try and fix it. I let him get back in the pool part and the life guard said "no, like he's done for the day" but every kid there was running, mine was doing his little jog. But let's kick him out of his friends birthday and ONLY him. Its "nothing against my kid" and only 2 life guards to all them people is crazy. Also, I left my kids shoes and when I walked back in to get them, the front desk said to each other " There she is.. " And here I am. What about it. Terrible management.

My daughter almost drowned here! She had swimming lessons during kindergarten (around 6 years ago) her swimming instructor ~16 to 18 years old kid told her to go 4 feet dee even though she was only able to reach the 3 ft end. I feel angry on how "instructors" think they can do what they want to do.she is just telling us now!

We signed up for swimm lessons here and the instructor Murray is awesome with kids!
But 8 kids to on instructor and the only life guard 2 pools away and napping half the time woth other staff doesn't make you feel safe at all.
We were told the class would be in the sloped shallow area but it wasnt. Would just like to see one adult close by helping watch. Otherwise he is just having to lifeguard and can't teach much. He even said a class that full didn't allow for much teaching.
I confronted the staff about it and she was quite dismissive.

I would like to point out MAURY at this facility. I signed my 3 year old son up for swim lessons. He refused to go under water. MAURY had him diving for rockets by the end of the first lesson. MAURY is a great swim coach and he should be recognized. Thank you MAURY.

PARENTS BEWARE!!! Do not send your children to summer camp here. My 4 year old was treated so horribly. To the point I sat in my car and watched older kids pick on him on the playground then when he reacted they went and told. The “adults” in the situation called me and told me my child was the aggressor because he finally pushed back. When I got out to pick him up I had a grown man verbally attack me in front of other parents and I just started crying and left. I was 8 months pregnant so I was trying to stay calm and not react. This place is horrible for kids. I have videos of the whole interaction and am tempted to report them

I recently moved to Gainesville and joined the local YMCA due to its convenient location. As someone who works for myself, I appreciated having access to a gym that operates 24/7 at my previous memberships. I enjoy working out and using the sauna afterward, but I've been disappointed with the hours of operation and availability of the sauna and steam room here.
For years, I've preferred using a stepper over a standard treadmill, but when I inquired about the lack of steppers, I was told it was due to injuries. I found this excuse unconvincing, as any gym equipment can pose risks. At $87 a month, which is more than double what I paid at my last gym, the YMCA doesn’t seem to offer the value I expected. Additionally, I've encountered broken showers and lockers, and the staff has been somewhat rude. I really hope they consider the needs of all members and keep the sauna and steam room open in the afternoon as they should.

I highly recommend NOT coming to this place. The lifeguards try to harass me and my family all the time for doing nothing wrong. After a long week of work, you will not be able to be at peace. They will find any way to disrupt it. If I could give this place a half a star I would. Trashy, terrible customer service and hopefully it gets shut down.

I sent my son for camp here and we didn’t have a good experience. He was punched by one child who was finally I guess asked to not return. Then the following week he was punched several times by another child who he says was meaner then the first one. He said he would tell the counselors and they would say stop to the child but he would just do it again. No child should have to endure this environment. On the last day he was there he came out saying very sternly that he was never coming here again that kids are too mean. I wanted this to work out because it’s convenient to my job but it did not. The YMCA did call me about the matter and tried to get me to stay but I just can’t do that to my child.

Horrible policy. I canceled my subscription from Y, and after one week, they automatically charged again for the next month. When I went to talk to the manager, she said there was a 10-day policy. I have to come and cancel ten days before. I said okay and tried to ask if we could put our coming month's subscription on hold (because we already paid for that). I explained that we wouldn’t be in town next month, and she refused. I understand the policy, but sometimes you could understand and at least let your clients leave with good memories about your company.
So, we've been charged, but we can't put it on hold either. Very disappointed by the YMCA

The only positive thing I can say is my daughter loves the summer camp, winter camp and spring break camp here, and the manager, Jeanette, is very nice hardworking and helpful, but some little blonde girl working the gym equipment was very rude to me, telling me to cover up or get out as there's supposedly a dress code! I was wearing a sports bra and tracksuit pants minding my own business when I was on the elliptical and she was extremely rude ! , plus the female life guards are very rude and unprofessional , harassing me all the time bad attitude! Only reason I'm still at this facility is cos if the nice manager and camps my daughter is happy at , ease hire some decent staff

Staff harasses young females with small children. Staff and management have power trip issues and literally will not stop harassing a single mother just trying to have fun with her child. Staff is very disrespectful and awful, management has attitude problems! After being told and asked multiple times to leave me and my son alone they did not and wanted to play power trip, this is my pool and you'll do what I say. Worst experience ever. Won't be back and definitely canceling my membership. They treat ppl terrible here!

I had an incident with my child recently at this establishment and was not informed about the situation until the end of the day. The situation involved my child getting hurt and I was not immediately called or notified. The faculty needs an assessment on how to handle these situations so that me as a parent can pivot and handle the situation right then and there rather than towards the end of the day. Please offer refresh training to the faculty. Thank you

What a horrible Y. I’m in from out of town and came to swim. Got here at 5 but the pool doesn’t open until 6. Can’t use TRX without a class. What a horrible Karen run facility. I’d drive 45 minutes across town to go to Forsyth.

Don't bother with a birthday party here. They changed their processes and rules since reopening. The pool area is only open for your party for LESS THAN HALF of the time you book.
They have a ridiculous swimming test for kids under 15 to get in a 4 ft pool. If they can't swim a whole lap in the lap pool they have to wear a life jacket. On top of that, the swimming test takes up part of that time that they are allowed to swim. Kids are being forced to wear a life jacket while walking on the bottom of the pool. This place is a joke.

The gym is decent aside from one problem. There’s some miserable wrinkly old lady that works out every afternoon here around 12 or so and apparently is also employed here. She’s extremely rude to members and seems to always want to run her mouth. She needs to mind her own business and stop harassing members who come in just to work out. Won’t be coming back here simply for this reason, I’ll be sure to spread the word to all the people I know who come here on occasion.

I do not normally come to this gym but decided to go because my gym was currently closed I paid the $10 to get in and in mid work out get told I need to cover up( I was wearing a sports bra with high waisted workout leggings) I understand some gyms have dress code but if you are checking me in taking my money you see how I’m dressed if it’s an issue say something before I pay to get in or have a sign at the front desk this way people don’t waste their money to get in just to get told they need to cover up. Will not be returning.

Our family enjoys the friendly staff, particularly in the children's area here. As a Mama I love all the windows and natural light in the kids area as well as the whole fitness center offers which is in contrast to many other fitness centers in the area. My daughter loves the bounce houses in the gym area and the indoor water slide at the pool. Both are excellent indoor options particularly in the winter months when outdoor activities are limited.
One negative: Bringing a guest is $10/person per visit. I wish the cost was a little more affordable at least a discount for child guest on weekdays. It would be a fun place to bring a friend to join her but at $10 a pop it's expensive for just a swim.

Warning: Do not become members in this facility. The children’s pool is so disgusting. Today was our first day as members and I have already canceled our family membership. *Dirty pool with dirt and wig hair floating around. *The water slide stairs are deteriorated and falling apart. *If a child gets cut, a tetanus shot will be needed afterwards. Even if this facility was free to attend, I will NOT visit it even if it was for free let alone pay a family membership of $78 on a monthly basis. Very worrisome, disgusting and disappointing.

i don't recommend this place, one old blonde lady is so annoying at me at all time she is so bossy! I just wondering why she act like that only on me. and it makes me feel reluctant to use equipment around the gym. Well lady you think you can and act like one! But I’ve known to use equipment at the gym since 2010 before i know ymca! She harass me not only one or two times it’s been fourth times including yesterday since first joined at 2016, and now we decided to re join again because of we need a child watch For my son while we doing exercise coz schools not start yet. I thought she’s gonna be different, but even worse! Everyone else is fine but that lady! So one star is big enough

Don’t go here if you have kids the activities they have for them is extra$$ then the kids aren’t allowed in the workout room or any of the other rooms if you take them inside the pool or gym you have to stay with them which means your not gonna be able to work out which is what you came to do and if you try to take them to daycare don’t plan on working out there long because you have to get your kids before a certain time

Signed my daughter up for after school after Christmas. On President's Day there was a mix up and her school put down that childcare was not needed for that day. The extremely rude blonde at the table " You're not on the list. What school. It says you don't need child care. Is that not your signature" I ended up having to take my daughter to work with me. I withdrew her from the program the very next day. Take your money elsewhere for childcare.

Price is outrageous!! Disabled military vet, military instillations are free, but there is t one close enough to use. Other gyms are about $10/month. Only really interested in pool use to better health and weight loss after accident. Very disappointed with the staff and their lack of empathy, and the price gouging of the Y. Would not recommend to anyone. $60/month is extortion, when it’s supposed to be a community entity. Will be filing a complaint with the BBB, Chamber of commerce and zoning board. And anyone else I can think of to bring attention to this.

** UPDATE** I have since spoken to the manager and received nothing more than a “that was our bad.” No offer of refunding even though our party time WAS cut short due to THEIR error.
I booked my kids’ birthday party two months in advance AND emailed a week prior to confirm my date and time (12-2), which I was told was good to go. Yet when I arrived to begin setting up they tell me that they had scheduled a Cookies With Santa running into my event time set up time (you are supposed to be given 30 minutes to set up) but that “they should be out by 15 minutes prior to the party”. They weren’t. At noon I was literally setting up around them still removing their event decorations while my guests were already arriving. They still left crumbs on the tables and floors but I was so busy trying to just get our party set up that I didn’t even bother mentioning it. They claimed they were going to “extend my party time” since they messed up, but I still had my stuff out by the time I was supposed to and it’s a good thing since another party was walking in to set up. I cannot imagine the level of irresponsibility that went into this entire ordeal. They could have planned their event at a different time, they could have called as soon as they realized the scheduling conflict, they could have told me when I emailed to confirm, but none of that happened. They also clearly didn’t call the person with the party after mine to let them know that they may be pushing their party back as well. Luckily, I wasn’t willing to disrupt someone else’s party because I recognize that when you send out invitations with a specific time and date, you can’t just change that 10 minutes before the party. Overall, I would not EVER recommend booking your party here. I still haven’t even received an email back regarding how completely unacceptable this was. I plan on cancelling our membership entirely over this.

Extremely dirty the bathrooms, yakusi, and steam room. The yakusi feels slimy when we stepped in. Plus, if we are paying for child care it is obvious that we will want them to be fed at least with the food we bring them, but they don't feed anyone's baby or child while working out so you have to stop your workout and feed your own child or baby. I can do that at home. Workout at home with a few videos and stop when my baby gets hungry it defeats the purpose of paying for childcare if we still have to go out of our way to feed the baby.

One star is six stars too many.
First, let’s get one thing straight: I’m a bonafied, died-in-the-wool Y-guy. I’ve been associated with the YMCA for over thirty years in some capacity, and I travel the country visiting branches from Maine to Seattle to Miami. I’ve been at the J.A. Walters Family YMCA since 2012.
J.A.Walters is NOT a YMCA. At least not as evidenced by it’s alarmingly slipping standards and glaringly obvious incompetent management. I have never seen a branch go from zero to sixty and back to zero so fast. And now, considering the deplorable sanitary conditions of the entire facility, especially the locker rooms, it is actually going in reverse. The place is filthy from stem to stern. There used to be cleaning crew evident all day long, but no more. I gave up changing in the men’s locker room months ago. And I hear the women’s and girls’ are even worse.
The lack of pride and ownership in their jobs is evident as you watch the remaining staff mill about disconsolately, apparently waiting for their shifts to be over. It did not used to be this way here: at one time, staff took pride in their work, and their association with such a venerated organization. The interaction among them was bright and evident, and they treated members with respect and joy. Suddenly, one day, the suggestion boxes disappeared, and the place began to deteriorate.
I’ve had enough. Group fitness classes are regularly and constantly cancelled with no subs. The facility is deplorable. Towel dispensers to clean the equipment are usually empty. The attention to concerns of members is nonexistent: they are universally dismissed, even mocked at times. And all the amazing “Y” people who made this place great are gone. The creative programs that made the place different and so much fun have, for the most part, been long forgotten. It’s a dirty building with old exercise equipment.
R.I.P., local Y. Hello, Francis Meadows.

Wouldn't recomend it to anyone. Old equipment. Have to wait for exercise equipment. No security cameras to watch parking lot.Think some one hit my truck there. Got ear infections everytime I went in the pool.

If you want help with your fitness journey they get you on ActiveTrax, and they have schedules on which days they do certain fitness classes. This place is perfect for any age and takes care of children while adults workout.

We belong to the Ymca, it had great equipment and plenty to do. However the showers and locker rooms are a little moldy.
