Today is 11/30/25 and the pool water heater has been broken for 17 days (Nov 13) and below 50 degrees- which is too cold to host an aquafit class. Every day there's an excuse - someone will be making repairs the next day and it hasn't happened. The person who answered today @ 5:01p said it will be another week for repairs because the part is "coming from China". As each day passes the excusea are more ridiculous. For a recently refurbished pool, there's a lot wrong with the mechanics and most disappointing is the lack of accountability in notifying club members.

Been going to La Fitness for a few years now and it’s progressively gotten worst. Along with missing equipment, unclean environment and numerous other issues, they have instructors there that are so unprofessional and rude.
I use to go to this one guy’s yoga class, Westley, for over a year…not only was he constantly tardy by sometimes over half an hour, he created an environment that if he or others he’s friends with in class don’t like you, they’ll actively go out their way to make you uncomfortable. Especially if you are in better shape than they are…..if you see the picture I’m drawing…
I literally had to go off on one lady the last time I was in his class because the theme found going to his class is if you’re not interested in being apart of the his “mean girls” crowd, they’ll actively take issue with that and do things IN class to make your time unpleasant.
I stayed in the class as long as I did because for OVER A YEAR, I’d come in, mind my business, do yoga and leave. And yet I had to deal with nasty attitudes, backhanded compliments and passive aggressive behavior from him and those he favor…in a YOGA CLASS. Like it’s high school all over again for these people lol!
Now I go to a yoga studio and it’s a complete 180. The instructors are ON TIME, pleasant TO EVERYONE, inclusive and handle disagreements with fairness and care. I still do Zumba at La Fitness from time to time, however, as a woman, hearing an instructor constantly make comments on your physique in a distasteful and disrespectful matter when 1) you’re in better shape than they are and 2) all you’re trying to is workout to keep your mental and physical health in check…is incredibly nasty.
I know someone from La Fitness will probably wanna reach out and ask “Why didn’t you inform anyone”? However, when you have a culture where instructors are allowed to be late, can run their class any type of way and hold no accountability for their shortcomings, that truly sets the tone because you can’t truly respect people if you don’t respect their time or feedback.
Now, I won’t go to his class and when people who inquire ask why, I have chosen going forward to be honest and share my experience because unfortunately I’m not the only one.

This location is very poorly maintained. The bathroom is always wet sinks don't work, soap dispensers paper towel dispenser, water fountains are all broken and have been for months. Basketball court finally opened back up. Beyond maintenance there aren't enough of some equipment esp, benches, squat racks etc. heavy lifts take people longer and should have more available to avoid bottlenecks. Theres no place to stretch it just feels poorly planned and run

There’s always been an issue with the basketball court. Majority of the membership here is due to guys wanting to come here and play basketball because they have a full court. But for the last 3 to 6 months, there’s always an issue and they have the court closed down. Today when I walk in, they don’t have a rim on one of the backboards, and proceed to tell me that they don’t have to have rims on the backboard and it’s a luxury not necessity at their facility. Yes, I like to work out in the weight room, but basketball is a big part of why I chose this particular facility and for them to just treat us this way is not right.

So, I have been a member of the gym for 8+ yrs and this is the first time I’ve ever considered writing a review. But the last 4-5 months have definitely warranted such.
I mostly go to Akers at 99% clip, so I know and have seen the workers and managers of the years. I come workout and play ball 🏀. Have built relationships up with all the regulars. I my experience has been good. Nothing really to report.
However…Management since the change to the young lady that mostly spends her time at Terrell Mills has been deceitful dubious and dastardly. Wont say her name bcz seems like they are removing post with her name in them, somehow 🤔🤷🏽♂️
But they have lied on the members of the gym repeatedly all in an attempt to close the basketball court so they can shut it down early and turn it into a full Olympic work out facility. I was told this by Terrell Mill Brunette Barbie Manager.
Last week the lil pawn of a manager Lexi caught someone sneaking in (which is fine by all means run your business correctly). Once she puts that person out of the building, she then uses that situation as the predicate to shut the court down. While we’re are talking to her trying negotiate the fact that punishing 99% bcz of the 1% seems unfair. she put her hands on a gentleman that was bringing a medicine ball in the gym saying he couldn’t…then called the police on him. Saying he harassed her 😒
Then super impersonal maintenance guy who somehow never is dressed like a maintenance guy, won’t give us his name puts a chain and pad lock on the door. (That’s gotta be fire hazard since the court has an emergency exit.) He then proceeds to tell a member that we’re being punished.
Well the police come take the guy statement. They get his side then ask to speak with Lexi the liar again. But she has fled to the back of the building and from what I was told (though I was sitting right there I missed this part) she, Lexi wouldn’t let the police see the video. Why? Bcz it would show her putting her hands on him.
Lexi the liar lied to her manager over at Terrell Mill and only told her about the man sneaking in. But somehow never mentioned the police call or putting her hands on member.
Next day go in to workout court is closed until November…why you ask? For “maintenance!”
We called file complaints have left reviews and promise to end memberships which started putting pressure on them, guess what, days later they try to appease us by puttin 1 rim back up. (Oh yea they took them down forgot that part)
Not good enough! We want both rims up and for them to be fair and truthful. Run your business make your but don’t treat your customers with disrespect and disdain.
They are sticking to their lies and we are sticking to TRUTH. You know there’s pressure when pawn Lexi hasn’t been seen since that incident bcz she’s a liar and they’re trying to protect her.
Protect her all you want BUT we’re stopping memberships if the gym isn’t reopened. Might as well go to planet fitness.

I have been coming to this gym for over 11 years, and for 10 of them, this was the best place to work on my basketball skillset and also my personal fitness; however, this year has been an absolute nightmare. With already having to deal with the pool being closed for months, faulty equipment, missing dumbells, and other workout accessories it has been deeply depressing coming inside and seeing chains on a door with no explanation as to why and a week later being told the gym is back open only to walk into a court with a missing rim with no explanation from the front desk as to why. I cant even do drills because its 10 ppl using the other half of the court that has a rim. I truly feel that this gym has taken a major decline all around and does not live up to the standards or the expectations that it once had in previous years 👎🏿👎🏿

Just read a review from some one who is not a member named Reginald there has been no fights here and the customer service is actually horrible . Gym has been over crowded due to other la fitness amenities being closed , I seen two members have an altercation over a machine but I’m sure not one fight has happened due to basketball , overall this has been my favorite location for years Maurice helped control the noise and it has been wonderful ever since . They moved Josephine about 2 months ago and I’ve noticed a lot of problems… also maybe work on not letting people with no memberships or passes use the facilities

As a member of this location one of many that I got to & play basketball with a great group of guys & friends to find out that my morning (6am) basket ball runs will no longer continue with my friends due to the closing of the court I'm very disappointed in this decision the company is making which might make plenty members cancel their memberships & find another gym to play basketball where I think this facility on Akers Mill was a great place & a fantastic atmosphere.

As a loyal patron of this location for , I can attest that 95% of my visits are due to my enthusiasm for morning basketball. Although the evening basketball crew can be challenging, I believe it is essential to recognize the dedicated group that has been over 15 yearsgathering on Wednesday and Friday mornings for many years. I have always been satisfied with the service provided by this location, and I acknowledge the efforts made to manage the evening crew. In light of this, I respectfully request that you consider opening the gym on Wednesday and Friday mornings to accommodate our group of 50+, who have grown accustomed to utilizing this facility as an integral part of our morning routine. This has been my home gym for over 5 years. I chose LA fitness specifically because they offer a basketball gym to its members. The last few months have been disappointing in that the basketball gym has been shut down even though it was still operable without little explanation as to why. The friendships forged and fellowship attained through basketball is an integral part of the LA Fitness brand. I am hoping that this location makes the choice to acknowledge that and its members who have remained loyal to this brand for that very reason alone.

Backstory .. several of us play basketball in the morning .. There has been no issues ever with the morning crew, and have been none since we started over a decade ago … Evenings, that’s a different story .. Instead of punishing those guilty, you close the entire gym. This screams racism. The n manger wouldn’t close the racquetball courts if there was an issue, nor the pools if there was an issue. This started with new manager being afraid to do what a managers job duties are (look at the video, suspend the culprits). If it were white youth, there’d be no overreaction as this is. Since it’s a white manager and black youth, vast overreaction. Find a new club. Or if La fitness cared they’d make the manager manage. If not resolved, I’m cancelling my membership of over 10 years. And over 20 of us who are in a group chat and play daily will do so. I’ll crusade to do more and find more .

It’s honestly disappointing to see how far this facility has fallen. What was once the best LA Fitness in the Atlanta Metro area has become almost unrecognizable. The management has shut down key amenities—pool, basketball courts, and sauna—for what feels like an indefinite period, with no communication or visible signs of improvement. The locker rooms are consistently dirty, and it’s clear that standards have slipped. Sadly, the staff who made this place welcoming and well-run have been let go and replaced by people who are just... there. It’s frustrating to watch such a great gym decline like this.

I've been coming to the Akers Mill location for years. They had shut down the basketball court for awhile do to repairs. Ever since it reopened there have been constant fights that have escalated out onto the workout floor. It made my wife and I feel very unsafe. I reported it to the front desk manager who was very kind and respectful. I decided not to cancel my membership because of her outstanding customer service. I am hoping something changes now because those fights that keep happening are really getting out of hand. I worry for my safety and others.

Breach of Contract and Discriminatory Management at LA Fitness (Akers Mill)
I’ve been a loyal member of LA Fitness at Akers Mill for years, and I’ve never been more disappointed in the direction this location has taken—particularly under the new management led by the current management.
Recently, the basketball gym—a key amenity and part of my membership agreement—was abruptly shut down due to an isolated incident completely outside of the members' control. Rather than addressing the issue with fairness or nuance, the new management chose to punish the entire member base. This is a blatant breach of contract, as access to the gym’s full facilities—including the basketball court—was part of what I paid for.
This decision is not only unfair but feels targeted and discriminatory. Under the current leadership, it’s become increasingly clear that certain groups of members are being marginalized and treated with visible bias. Her actions, including the closure of the court, have demonstrated a disregard for community, fairness, and equity. If the gym's goal is truly to foster a safe and inclusive environment, this is a step in the exact opposite direction.
Bring back Josephine, who led this location with respect, transparency, and professionalism. She understood how to maintain a welcoming atmosphere while holding people accountable appropriately and fairly. Since her departure, the culture has shifted drastically—and not for the better.
If LA Fitness continues to allow this type of mismanagement and breach of trust, I—and many others—will have no choice but to take our business elsewhere and consider legal remedies for services paid for but denied.

I’m deeply disturbed by the behavior I witnessed at LA Fitness Akers Mill (2995 Cobb Parkway SE, Atlanta, GA) — specifically involving a manager . Her conduct toward members, especially Black individuals who regularly use the basketball court, has been consistently discriminatory and hostile. But recently, things escalated to a completely unacceptable level.
She grabbed and shoved a Black member by the shoulder during a disagreement — a clear act of physical aggression and abuse of authority. It was shocking, intimidating, and completely unjustifiable. She further than threatened to call the police on this member after they complained of the mistreatment
After that incident, she didn’t just close the basketball court — she put a physical chain on the door, making it crystal clear that her intent wasn’t just to enforce rules, but to send a targeted message of exclusion toward the Black community that regularly uses that space.
Instead of addressing any issues directly and fairly, management chose to shut down the court for 45 days, punishing everyone for the actions of one person. This kind of collective punishment disproportionately affects Black members and reinforces the racist undertones that have become far too obvious at this location.

I have given this particular LA so many tries now as I moved closer to this one. The other LA’s I’ve been too in Buckhead are great- this one honestly is a trash gym. It’s tiny, most of the equipment is broken and there’s practically no room to workout. Why are all the other LA’s remodeled except this one- I’d say go to a different LA fitness not this one

I’ve been coming to the LA Fitness on Akers Mill for several years now, and I can honestly say the energy at the front desk hasn’t always stood out—until recently. This time around, I was greeted by Miss Ari, and even with my headphones on, I could feel the warmth and positivity in her welcome. I didn’t catch every word, but that’s the thing—sometimes it’s not what’s said, but how it’s said that sticks with you.
What really impressed me was her genuine energy. She actually remembered my name, which might seem like a small thing, but in a world where customer service often feels rushed or robotic, it’s huge. It shows intent, and that you’re not just another membership barcode.
It’s rare nowadays to walk into a place you’re paying to be a part of and actually feel invited to be there. That quick moment at the front desk set a different tone for my entire workout—and honestly, those little details make all the difference.
Just wanted to drop a few positive lines to recognize a truly positive experience. Big shoutout to Miss Ari for bringing that energy. LA Fitness, she’s a gem—don’t sleep on that.

My review is more for the staff than for the location (could use some updating when compared to other LA's, but the staff doesn't have much control over this).
I've gone to this LA for over 3 years and have occasionally visited others around the area (brookhaven, alpharetta, austell, lawrenceville, marietta, etc.), and have not found/met a more caring and professional group of people. This is the first location I've been to where the staff really makes you feel welcome and ensures building rapport with the members of their gym. Monica and Maurice are, in my humble opinion, the heart of this location. Monica is such the kindest, most diligent worker and brings a smile to my face every time I walk in. Maurice and Lexi constantly go above and beyond to make sure things run smoothly, effectively taking care of both the staff and gym members, and recent new staff faces made such a great impression on me on their first few days. If you care for a gym where the staff care for you, this is the place to go.

There are definitely some great staff at this gym, but Lex is hands down my favorite. Every time I come in, she’s either cleaning, re-racking weights, fixing something, or just bringing good energy to the front desk.
She always greets people with a smile and you can tell she actually gives a damn about the gym and the members. That kind of pride and consistency stands out.
Lex is the type of person that makes you want to keep showing up. If the place is still running smooth, she’s a big reason why.

I started at this gym in March 2025. When I came, I was looking for a place that had more amenities than Planet Fitness. Not only did they have what I wanted, it had what I needed for my weight loss journey: a staff that will hold me accountable.
When I came for the first time, Ari Northington gave me a great tour of the facility and answered every question I had. She not only made sure I was comfortable here, but that she held me accountable for every goal I had for myself when joining. I told her I’d come every day and that I was serious with my weight loss (still do after almost 3 months lol).
Since I was serious with the journey, she introduced me to Antonio Johnson who oversees the trainers for an introductory workout session. After that workout he put me through, I knew instantly that I needed the extra guidance to push me. I signed up for the 3x/month trainer workout program and eventually moved it up for 4x/month (once a week) and I’ve been working with a trainer Gary Cooper (the real deal) every week since. Training, nutrition, whatever it is: they’ve held me accountable each and every day to ensure I workout and do the necessities.
After being at the gym for 2 months, I lost 30 pounds (354 to 324), 5% of my body fat, and have improved my energy and sleep quality. I want to personally thank all they do to have helped me to where I am currently and where I plan to go in the future. If you are serious about getting fit and improving your overall quality of life, this staff and place is the best for it. One of the best decisions I’ve made at 32.

ZERO stars. It is next to impossible to cancel your membership, and the reason we wanted to, it is a FILTHY gym. Broken machines. Hair in the drains, on the walls, constantly. Sauna/ Hot tub disgusting. Floors unclean. HORRIBLE disrespectful RUDE Operations MGR =Josephine. REFUSED to refund since our original cancellation date in March. Jumped through the hoops to cancel, both my husband and I went in, did what they asked, and they continued to charge him. Caught the charges. Been on the phone this morning with nothing but attitude from her. She tells me she can't help me if I don't see the cancellation email and will only refund last month. I am still waiting to see confirmation emails that they have done what we requested in person MONTHS ago. Called back, waited on the phone for 15 mintues. She didn't apologize when I called back the 3rd time. Not her problem. She is busy. After nearly having to beg for proof, she finally texted me screenshots of the cancellation, but again, only refunded for the last month. When I raised my voice this was an error on their end, she threatened to not help me at all. This manager is VERY RUDE and should not be in a customer service role here, or anywhere. ZERO STARS. Find another gym. I'm so upset by the experience I'm calling corporate.

Dirty gym. If you’re looking for a new one to join this is not it. It’s already insanely packed out. They finally replaced the wood benches in the men’s sauna because there were literal holes in the old one from wear. The replaced wood is so creaky and feels cheaply made. They could have used this time to put in a new tile floor but it’s just bare cracked concrete in the sauna teaming with bacteria. It seems as if all of the LA fitnesses in the Atlanta area are on the decline. Hardly worth it anymore.

Nice dumbbell selection, equipment selection. Everything is close to each other, ALWAYS PACKED. I almost puked trying to use the bathroom. The smell in the male locker room and naked guys almost took me out. I get it's a locker room, it's what happens... But I feel like I have to hold my breath if I have to use to bathroom.

I would not recommend this location for anyone wanting to do functional fitness workouts. The space available to train is minuscule, so it gets packed rather quickly. You’d even find more space at a Planet Fitness or other box gym. There’s no turf and few equipment options for anyone not doing traditional lifting/ strength training - eg no sled, trap bar, landline attachments, few mats (that I saw).
For those doing traditional strength training, this location would likely be fine. It’s a popular location though. Every bench at the free weight section was taken during the middle of the day. The equipment is also old which is usually fine except when wear on the equipment prevents you from using it (eg. The knob for an adjustable bench was pulled off so I couldn’t adjust it to be flat.)

I’m not sure why the ball has been dropped for this LA Fitness location but the equipment is outdated very rusty, not clean, the women’s sauna light has been broken longer than I can remember. The frequency of machines needing service is too high for such a location. The only update seems to be the flooring. I hope within the next year equipment can get an upgrade.

Today I witnessed the staff lock out members and their guests 30 min before closing time. After I walked in no one was at the reception area instead the young lady was in the swimming area looking to have a very leisure conversation with someone in the pool area. After she had gotten my attention by making very rude and awkward arm gestures I am now having to wait for her to make her way to the front counter only to be told in quite the rude manner that the gym would be closing in 30 min and how did I get in. Shocked I just looked at her. Today was not a shining moment for customer service and after being here 3 yrs or more I don't expect to come to the gym and see other ppl be locked out before the gym closes. If it closes at 6 doors stay open til 6.. hope this doesn't happen again

I came here once with a friend to try it out. The machines are filthy as people don’t clean up after themselves, it’s always overcrowded because the actual “gym” part is really small, and since I went - once - they keep calling me, unsolicitedly, and when I asked them to stop as I have no interest in joining, I was told “Well I’m not the one calling you, it’s probably my boss, I can’t do anything about it.” Not worth the money or the inevitable staph infection.

This location desperately needs an upgrade. The machines are so old, and many are rusted and need calibration. LA Fitness and many other gyms need to implement a policy around the use of video equipment and cell phones while holding up equipment. It's ok if someone is actively using the machine while talking but most are holding entire conversations and holding up the equipment. Close this location or upgrade to provide the experience your customers holders deserve.

If you are new and looking to take any of the classes they offer. Do not attend Wesley F. Classes. He does cater to new people.
I have lost over 150lbs use to be 300 lbs now currently 168. I was an dancer and a cheerleader for years before n my adult life. I was never more frustrated than when I took body works plus abs for the Frist time ever. Wesley was late to the class. Everyone else had been in the class and new what to do. He never slowed down to explain or show what to do. He clearly knew I was new. I kept stopping and he said we are not going to stop. And made a comment about how we are not going to work him. I ended up getting so frustrated I left the class after 30 min and went on a treadmill. Again if you are new avoid taking a class with Wesley F.
I love that LA fitness offers other classes with different teachers. I will just have to find a other one at a different location.

I would just like to say that I have been going to this location since 2008. Today I am at the location in a rough part of Decatur on Covington hwy. It's a shame with all the renovations Akers Mill has had, that it's still out dated and this location I'm at now looks 10 times better and has way nicer equipment. Terrill Mill is way better too but this one is one of the best I've seen. They need to "bern" this one down and start over.

They allow people to work out without their shirts on. I was not impressed. People spend over 1hr on squat racks. It's a chaos in there late afternoon to the evenings in this place. You leave your bench to go get a sip of water when you come back, someone is already taken your bench! Very rude and disrespectful, I should say.

One of the cleanest gyms I’ve been to. I drive all the way from Camp Creek to this location because they take pride in their gym. There is always someone cleaning…if not 2 people…cleaning at a time. The people at the front desk are always friendly as well. Keep up the great work!

I hate to say this, but this is probably the dirtiest LA Fitness near the Atlanta area. I don’t know if I just go at bad times, but the cupholders on all of the machines always have paper towels in them, there’s a leak upstairs over the cardio equipment That drips all over the machines. They are also often out of hand sanitizer for days at a time. Finally the women’s locker room is always dirty. I can’t even take a shower here before work anymore. It’s always globs of hair in the drain, no sanitary spray in the area, and paper towels scattered on the countertops. I travel for work, so I frequent different LA Fitness is across the Atlanta Metro area. I’m always disappointed when I have to come to this location. However, I will say the staff is usually friendly And they have a good mix of equipment here, so it’s not a total loss. I’m only writing this review so they can work on these things, a lot of people work out early in the mornings, who wants to start their day in a dirty gym.

LA Fitness is ok. You have quite a bit of equipment to choose from, classes. However, the whirlpool and pool look dirty as if the pool hasn’t been clean in a long while. You notice people don’t clean the equipment after themselves. Also, their hours isn’t 24 hours which didn’t work for me. This is the Akers Mill location. They have other locations. However, who wants to drive to other locations when your time is limited to work out.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING with L. A. Fitness Akers Mill. This is the absolutes worst location. They will sell you a package, then they don't have anyone to train you. One trainer is available some weeks with very limited hours. Some weeks, they have no trainer at all. I've shown up for a scheduled session, and the trainer didn't show up. The manager finally agreed to train me, them backed out as well. Passed me off to someone else, who is now out. So no training once again. Zero customer service. Total rip off. Hopefully the 700 views of this post in my community will eliminate others going through this.
