I’ve never experienced anything like what happened at the LA Fitness in Austell yesterday (11/10/2025).

While I was using the Smith machine, another patron walked up, put his bag down, and when I told him I was using it and had two more sets left, he went and told a manager — Omar. A few minutes later, Omar came all the way from the front of the gym to interrupt my workout and ask me how many sets I had left, apparently to “make sure everyone can use the equipment.”

What’s strange is that there’s another Smith machine right behind me that was also occupied, but Omar didn’t ask that person anything. When I pointed that out, he said, “We don’t have to do that.” That made it clear he was only addressing me because someone complained. Then he told the other patron to “just hop on whenever she finishes her two sets.” Not when I was done — but specifically after two sets — as if a manager can dictate when someone’s allowed to use a machine they’re already on.

To me, that’s completely unprofessional. Everyone in the gym pays the same monthly fee. If a machine is in use, you wait your turn — that’s basic gym etiquette. I don’t expect special treatment, and I definitely don’t expect a manager to interrupt my workout because someone didn’t want to wait.

If capacity is an issue, the gym should add more equipment. But targeting a member mid-workout to accommodate someone else isn’t fair or respectful. The way Omar handled the situation showed a real lack of tact and impartiality.

I’ve always believed gyms should be about mutual respect and shared space, but this experience really left a bad impression. Hopefully, LA Fitness takes this seriously and makes sure managers treat all members equally.

I have been going to this gym for about 6 months now. I have made a lot of progress in my fitness journey. The staff is nice and helpful, the facilities are kept clean and the equipment is serviced regularly. I also want to mention that they have a sauna, a full size indoor swimming pool, a hot tub, a supplement bar, full size basketball court, several racket ball courts and a spinning room. I have also noticed a classroom for there many offered classes. I have never been to a gym with so many amenities. It is often busy but there always seems to be enough equipment to accommodate. I rarely have to wait to use anything as they have multiple sets of machines. They also have free weights that are kept clean and very serviceable. This is a rare place where you get more than you pay for! Highly recommend to everyone!

LA Fitness (Austell Rd) - Yikes!
After being unimpressed with the Kennesaw location, I decided to visit this LA Fitness in Austell to see if it was any different. This one was even worse. I am not sure if there is a decline with this brand, but something is not right.

The facility is dirty. When I used the treadmill, I had to hunt down wipes for the machine. There seems to be more of a focus on upselling other products—advertisements are everywhere—but the carpet, equipment, and atmosphere feel old.

I felt sad since I am an older person, and many of the other members I saw are older, too. I just felt like we deserve better. The aqua class was cancelled due to a pool issue, and many of the members who drove out for the class complained that this is a frequent occurrence. I decided to join a different gym.

1. This gym is never clean. Every morning, it is dirty and there are never paper towels or hand sanitizer in machines.

2. Machines are old and always lean off hinges.

3. All the photos in the facility are of Caucasian people working out and there is one black person on the wall all the way in the back of building. The majority of the people I see are of other races but are not represented.

4. The person at front desk is never watching who comes in gym because they are working out.

I would like to give them zero stars they would lie to you about the initial sign up, saying that it’s not a monthly payment and still charge you. I’m convinced that that is fraud. They’re still in money that I do not have and when I come to the actual place that I signed up at the woman said that it’s nothing that she can do and that she was the one in charge. It just feels like they always giving me the runaround and I couldn’t get an email or a phone number to anyone else that may be able to assist me she she looked like she was high or drunk, and just sitting there blank face whenever I’m asking her serious questions about the payment debt. I look online and see that there’s a lot of fraud going on with a lot of LA fitnesses when it comes to canceling.

Bring Yvette back!! 😩 She's the BEST group fitness instructor I've ever had- and that's across 4 states and at least 3 other major gyms with great group fitness programs. She focuses on proper form, is tough, and gets results. I've never looked or felt better because she's taught me the right way to perform all moves. Aside from that, this gym is good. I like that they have a wide variety of free weights and the childcare center is wonderful. It's the only gym I can come to that my kids have fun, are safe, and want to come.

Update: sauna bench repaired

Update: 9/2 women’s sauna still only
Partly available for sitting. Manager stated over two weeks ago that materials
are on site and repairs would be made. No integrity or accountability.

Update: 8/26 another week and the sauna is only partially available. Today I was in the sauna with 7 other women and some had to stand up because half of the bench is broken. Not sure if this is a franchise or corporate but either way, it’s unacceptable.

Update: 8/19 A week later and half of the sauna is still unavailable for seating. Manager said materials were on site and repairs would be made by end of last week.

8/12 I only go to this gym for the sauna. The equipment looks like it’s covered in crust from COVID, broken and unsafe. Half of the women’s sauna is out of service because the bench is about to fall apart. When it’s busy we pack into the sauna like sardines. Management told me it’s not that busy and the bench has only been broken for a week. That’s a lie. A lot of excuses. I’ve found condoms on the restroom floor and toilets full of 💩. The reviews about this facility being less than satisfactory are true. I’ve cancelled 3 memberships here but I return because my job makes it affordable. Unfortunate!

For the morning crew, it’s NEVER cleaned when we come first thing at 5am. I dont understand why they cant hire a cleaning company and come clean this facility every night. Its got everything you could want. Plenty of cardio machines from treadmills, ellipticals, stairmasters, and 4 or five varieties of stationary bicycles.
They offer several classes, e.g., Zumba, cycle, and aqua fit. A free weight area, plus an assortment of weight lifting machines.
One can also hire a trainer.

Locker rooms are large and maintained.

Some of the equipment is scheduled for repair.

Bathrooms need some updating. Patrons can take a toll.

This gym has really gone downhill the last three months. The front desk staff is super nice, but there’s always stuff broken or damaged, it gets dirty, and I am not sure if they clean daily. For example, it looked dirty this morning at 6:30am. The wipe containers were empty nearly all over the gym, and the paper towel dispensers were empty in most spots, as well in the bathroom. How are people supposed to clean off their equipment??

Cleanliness needs to be priority #1 in a gym and this place fails it.

This place is over populated. That’s good for business I know but most times you can’t find any machine available. The worst part is that they know they are extremely full capacity and they don’t refill the paper towels, the cleaning solutions to wipe off the equipment and the soap in the bathrooms. I work out at la fitness regularly. Upon my last visit Tuesday I asked manager if I could add my 2 kids boy and girl ( boy 12 and girl 13) only for the basketball court. My son turns 13 next week and the "manager" said it was O.k. Today this "handsome" young lady Shana or Shannon said it isn't allowed. This gym is always dirty, the machines are broken and/or rusted. Most tvs on machines do not work. Most of the time there is either no soap, paper towels or wipes. I love the pool at this location because it's the perfect temperature! I'm a recovering paraplegic with severe nerve pain. A lot of the closer pools are often cold. The gym was clean, and I enjoyed the jacuzzi. The mens sauna could definitely use some heat. I've been to several locations that had much better sauna temperatures. Please fix mens sauna.

So I was going to plug up my phone at one of the only working electrical outlets which happened to be buy a printer behind one of the desks and John cheeks yelled across the room in front of the whole gym telling me not to plug up anything in his outlet. Yelled over a loud gym everyone can hear him pretty much yelling at me like I was a child and I asked him where is it say that in the company policy and he pretty much said he makes the rules and don't plug it into his outlet I can plug up a phone in the gym it's not against any rule this guy is making his own rules and speaking to people like he's their boss when I'm a paying customer. If you really had a problem and it was that big of a deal he could have politely tapped me on the shoulder and spoke to me without having everyone here like I was doing something wrong the guy has a completely arrogant tone and thinks he's in charge of the place when it's not his gym he's just an employee but I guess he doesn't realize that

Today my class did a CBI (Community Based Instruction) field trip to LA Fitness. Mr. John Cheeks did our tour. He and his staff welcomed us with open arms. Mr. Cheeks is awesome with our “Foundation Program” students. He gave us a thorough tour of the gym, demonstrating the different cardio machines, including the elliptical and treadmill. We also toured the weightlifting equipment, the basketball court, the changing rooms, and pool. Each student had an opportunity to try out the cardio and weightlifting equipment. We also played a short basketball game in the gym. The tour was awesome! We look forward to visiting LA Fitness again next year!!

The Austell location is great. It is the closest LA Fitness to my home. However It’s I don’t go to this location often because it is so incredibly filthy. I have been a loyal LA Fitness member for 20 years, but my recent experience has been very disappointing. Upon signing up for a month-to-month membership at the Austell location, I was unjustly charged for the first and last month, an initiation fee, and an annual charge without being informed beforehand. To make matters worse, when I canceled my membership, I was charged for another month. This feels like a complete ripoff, especially for someone who has been a dedicated member for two decades. The treatment of loyal members needs serious improvement.

This is the nicest kept LA Fitness i have been to in years. I would like to personally thank the Manager John for his attention to details and holding the bar high. This is how EVERY LA Fitness should be run. I wish my home gym in miami cared even 1/2 has much as what is reflected here.

I go to this gym a couple times a week and sometimes have to drop my kid off. They are very accommodating and friendly. I don’t use a lot of the machines so I don’t have the same feelings as some ppl on here. I always see a man cleaning up and restoring equipment. The WORST gym experience I’ve ever had. I joined a year ago and immediately regretted my decision, however I stayed around hoping it would improve and it never did. Workout weight machines are consistently out of order, cardio equipment is rusted, workout classes never start on time, the Zumba class is far off from Zumba technique and the instructors do a poor job of instructing the class. The instructors watch videos and attempt following the steps during class while providing little to no guidance to the class. At the time of membership cancellation the GM John pretended to be concerned with my experience only to be defensive, antagonistic, and condescending towards views that I shared. This gym was overall an unpleasant experience and they make it very hard to cancel your membership.

Austell, Georgia location - heavy, burning mint odor in women’s locker room and sauna irritating my eyeballs and skin. I have brought this up several times (today being the 4th or 5th) with no resolve. I was told that they cannot tell someone not to use harsh items that hurt other members.

My skin is tingling and it hurts like hell. It feels like a thousand needles stabbing my arms and chest. My eyes are red and watering profusely. I am a paying member as well. That is not fair. This is equivalent to someone lighting a cigarette in there or firing up a charcoal grill in there. There is not enough ventilation in there to allow that. I literally had to leave prior to the completion of my workout because I could barely breathe from inhaling that intrusive odor.

I hate that nothing is being done. There is plenty more to complain about, but I try not to focus on that and mind my business. Ok well if i cant even workout because the environment is uncomfortable because of outside factors that they refuse to do anything about, then i have to say something. Since they don’t care, this is a warning for anyone with sensitivities.

Went to this location today to sign up. The girl at the front desk was rude, unwelcoming, unfriendly, and unhelpful.

I can not express enough how greatly LA Fitness has impacted my life! I started my journey with them in 2018 when my second daughter was born. I was having trouble with childcare and postpartum. An amazing woman suggested I get a membership where I can take the kids for a reasonable price and be able to provide myself with the self care I needed! Fast forward to 2023 I now get to work for LA Fitness at the Kids Klub giving me a job that I am able to bring my children to and give other parents the same opportunity I was able to utilize! It takes a village and I consider LA Fitness a huge part of my community!!

This location is awesome! It’s clean and the staff is welcoming. The trainer Gabe is truly a treasure ! He is very knowledgeable about weight training, and weight equipment , stretching, balance., overall fitness! He is compassionate with anyone with any type of limitations! Additionally, John the GM, is very helpful and accommodating! I will continue using this facility for any fitness training require!

Great amenities, enough machines and freeweights that even when it is super busy; you can find what you need fairly quickly. Pools and Sauna are great too. 5 stars because the diverse, helpful, and friendly community at the gym, has been my favorite part. Really glad I became a member!

I joined this gym about a year and a half ago because I needed more cardio and a friend of mine told me about the Zumba classes. I LOVE to dance, so this seemed like a good fit 😊 I have not been disappointed. The Zumba class is like a big party!

This gym is also well located (on the East West Connector near Lowe's and Hobby Lobby) such that it is convenient for Austell, Mableton, and Smyrna. I live on the east side of Mableton, but it only takes me about 10 minutes to reach the gym.

All of the staff I have interacted with have been friendly and helpful, and I plan to continue my membership for a long time 😊 They also have a water bottle spigot on the water fountain, which I think is a fantastic invention (I use it all the time 😊)

If you haven't been to the Austell location...you are missing out. Every class I've taken has been high impacted with a lot of energy (Especially Zumba) I have been to other LA Fitness locations. But Austell is next to none

The staff is very friendly and polite. The instructors for bodyworks, cardio kick and cycling classes are awesome. Great motivation!! The only issue I have, they need more 7.5lb and 10lb weights for the body works class.

I come for the classes that way I'm getting my workout and having fun in the meantime. I started my own membership at the beginning of the year and it has brought nothing but good in my life.
Zumba is now everything and the energy you feel from walking up to the room until you get inside is infectious. Carla & Sharon’s classes just has a different energy. Soon they may need another room or create a livestream in one of the other tennis rooms so more people can join the class and enjoy it.
More weights, wipe down stations and stair master is needed. (Idk when they got rid of the stair-master but I need that back in my life.

I love coming to LA Fitness weekly. The staff is friendly and professional. The facility is clean and has great equipment. I especially love the two Zumba instructors, Carla and Sharon. They are both so very nice. Their classes are fun and upbeat. The classes are good for all ages,races, beginners and advanced dancers. I love my Zumba family and look forward to seeing their beautiful smiling faces every week!
