I feel extremely fortunate to have found this gym and having Adam as my coach. Having never imagined myself in a weight lifting rack, the progress and strength gains I achieved in just two months here seems unreal… all thanks to Adam’s meticulous coaching and patience addressing my challenges. The atmosphere is very friendly and supportive, and I feel recharged physically and mentally after each session. Looking forward to more strength gains in the coming year.

I have been going to Starting Strength Atlanta since the beginning of September. Having never lifted before, I wanted to work with someone who would teach me proper form and how to safely lift. As a female who is now 50 years old, I knew I needed to begin focusing on developing strong bones and lean muscle. Coach Adam is very knowledgeable and encouraging, and his wife Laura keeps the gym spotless and running so smoothly. The people and environment are great - so supportive. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of my strength training journey here at Starting Strength and am looking forward to only getting stronger and stronger in the days and months ahead.

Just finished my first workout. Laura and Adam were both super professional and helpful. Adam is built like a brick wall and had a ton of helpful tips and adjustments on my lifts. Adam squeezed me into an extra session to work on my technique.
Can't wait to visit again!

Did a form check with Coach Adam on my squat, press, and deadlift. I more or less taught myself the lifts when I started my Starting Strength NLP. He was able to point out so many small things that I could do better to keep my lifts progressing. I'm now restarting my LP after a vacation and sickness layoff, more motivated and energized than ever. Wish I would have done a consult earlier. I highly recommend coach Adam at Starting Strength Atlanta if you're interested in getting stronger, doing hard things, and developing yourself.

Starting to lift can be really intimidating - there's a lot of opinions about how to do it "right". This gym is a perfect place to go. Theres an awesome community of people and friendly trainers. I look forward to working out here 3x a week!

I’ve never been a gym person. Ever. Before coming here, I had zero experience with lifting, fitness, or even regular workouts. But at just 24 years old, years of sitting and tattooing left me with such severe back pain that it was genuinely affecting my quality of life — even basic things like sitting down were a struggle.
From day one, the coaches at Starting Strength Johns Creek changed everything. These are not just trainers — they’re professionals who truly know what they’re doing. Every single coach here is knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly encouraging. I felt safe putting my trust in them, and that made all the difference.
In just 2.5 months, I went from someone who couldn’t squat without a box… to someone squatting 106 pounds. It still blows my mind. If you had told me this three months ago, I would’ve laughed out loud. But here I am — stronger, pain-free, and finally feeling like myself again.
Huge thank you to Adam for helping me improve my quality of life and showing me what it means to get truly stronger — inside and out. And to Laura, thank you for always being so supportive and for running everything so smoothly — your attention to detail and care makes a huge difference.
The gym itself is spotless. The people here — both staff and members — are so diverse, kind, and down-to-earth. There’s no ego, no pressure, just a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone wants to see you succeed.
And the cherry on top? My 12-year-old little brother now joins me. This kid normally hates waking up early, but he happily gets up at 7 a.m. just to go train — and honestly, that says everything.
This has been the best investment I’ve made in myself and my life. If you're even a little curious — go check it out. You won’t regret it.

I can't emphasize enough that this gym is for EVERYONE who is looking to improve their health, increase their strength, build a great community, and enrich their lives. Young skinny kid looking to build muscle? Go here. Aging person with a sedentary lifestyle looking to make dramatic changes to your quality of life? Go here. The coaches here care about each and every single person who comes through the doors and cater a personalized training program for you, which works 100% of the time. This program is for the people who are tired of trying every fitness trend and are finally looking to make permanent positive changes in their lives, and who embrace the concept of putting in hard work to get extraordinary results.

Starting Strength is amazing. Adam and Laura run a fantastic gym that is perfect for people with the simple goal of getting strong. I’ve done CrossFit, P90X, in tons of other programs and they serve a purpose. But Starting Strength is built for people who want results efficiently and safely. I’m nursing a tear in my shoulder and have had no issues because this gym does it right and they know their stuff. Couldn’t recommend more highly!
If you’re trying to figure it out from the website, the gym has eight racks for weights which are personalized to each user. The trainers set up all your equipment beforehand and have your workout programmed before you walk in. Every time you do your sets, they are available to give tips on form, and are as involved as you want them to be. Some people just like to lift and have the coaches spot them, while others want hands-on coaching the whole time. Either way the coaches are great.
Most importantly, these are just good people. I really enjoyed getting to know the men and women who work out here. Everyone is very supportive and there’s no machismo / brouhaha - just good people lifting good weights.

I joined Starting Strength a month ago and immediately felt welcomed by both the coaches and members. The atmosphere is supportive, and you quickly build camaraderie with everyone there. You get your own power rack and weights each session—no waiting, no crowding.
For $30 a session, you get expert coaching and real-time feedback on the core barbell lifts, with your progress tracked each time. It’s a far better deal than most personal training sessions where you’re paying more just to chase dumbbell reps and crawl around the floor like a crab.
You start with just the bar and increase weight each time, which helps you build strength without getting overly sore and gives you time to master your form. The coaches are engaged and encouraging, and it’s not uncommon to get a round of applause from other members after a big lift.
Just a few weeks in, I feel stronger, more energized, and more confident every day. Life gets better when you're strong—Starting Strength proves it.

As a woman in my 40s, I decided to give strength training a try after hearing so many great things about its benefits for women my age. A quick Google search led me to Starting Strength, and after browsing through their website and reading some reviews, I decided to give it a shot. One of the first things that stood out to me when I walked into the gym was the amazing atmosphere. The energy was high, everyone was super supportive, and it made me feel completely at ease, even as a total beginner. Coaches Adam and Dave are fantastic. They provide personalized attention and guide me through every little detail to ensure I'm doing things correctly and maintaining the proper form. What I really love is how they celebrate every success-whether it's lifting a heavier weight, or completing a set.
After just a few weeks of strength training, I’m already noticing changes. I’m feeling stronger, more energized, sleeping better, and, surprisingly, I’m actually looking forward to my workouts now!
If you’re considering strength training but are feeling nervous about the gym environment, I highly recommend Starting Strength. The coaches have created this space where even a complete beginner like me feels right at home in the fitness community. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me! 😊

Coach Adam and Coach Dave really went above and beyond today. I attended a clinic with my 4 kids. Not only did they teach us the basics, they also customized feedback to each of us individually. We all walked away with practical tips to improve our lifts. The best part is that their training methods are all backed by science. They were able to train 5 people ranging in age from 14 to 48 with different skill levels. Starting Strength Atlanta is the real deal. You would benefit from paying them a visit and beginning your strength training journey with them. Can't recommend it enough.

I began with Coach John Klien in May 2024. My knees were always in tremendous pain after squats. After working with Coach Klien for a month, any pain I had vanished!
Through diligent attention to detail, Coach Klien helped me fix any issues I had. At 48 years old, I broke every PR I ever had.
The level of knowledge taught is second to none and I couldn’t recommend the coaching/training enough.
Whatever Coach Klien says instructs you to do and how, make sure your answers “yes”, and I promise you, you will get stronger and you WILL get your life back!

I recently took my daughter for an introductory session at Starting Strength. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we entered a community of enthusiastic, genuine, warm, and welcoming people.
Adam, the owner, worked with my daughter. He focused on showing her proper form, technique, and methods, so that she would understand how to develop strength without injuries. He has a sound understanding of human movement as it relates to lifting and thus, he was able to make the minute changes necessary for her to achieve ultimate performance.
Adam, as well as all the other coaches, all seem to have a genuine passion for helping people improve their lives through strength training. They were all so very patient, happy to give tips and help. Also, the entire gym, both lifters and coaches were cheering on and so encouraging of one another. Truly the place you want to be if you want to learn the proper and safe way to strength train for ultimate performance.

I'm a big believer in the Starting Strength Program. So much so that I packed my family and friends from South Georgia up to the John's Creek Gym for a 4 lift clinic.
The Gym itself is very clean, open, and inviting. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming.
The most important part, however, is the instruction: Coach Adam nails it. He is sharp, professional, articulate and really freaking strong. As a fellow instructor, I appreciated the depth of his knowledge, the articulate way he delivers it, and his spot on ability to relate to his students to deliver the message.
My mother (late 50s and ~100lbs) took this clinic with me. She is a retired factory worker with arthritis, osteoporosis and a list of musculoskeletal issues. After a few months in the program (squat progress from broomstick to 105lbs and about 10lbs of muscle) she was involved in a very nasty head on collision. Her truck was totaled and She was hurt pretty bad, but walked away. I am absolutely convinced that the muscle mass and strength she's gained helped keep her from suffering far more.
I insistently recomend Starting Strength to anyone who will listen. Likewise, I highly recomend SS Atlanta. It would be a great full time Gym for anyone in the area, and wpuld be well worth the trip for a clinic on where to start lefting and getting strong.

There is no better place to get strong. I have worked with 4 of the coaches at SS Atlanta. It is crazy how much these guys know. I had been training for about a year when I joined, and my form has improved immensely.
I had a very bad muscle tear several months in. I cannot express how grateful I am for the help I received in rehabbing it. I went from barely able to walk back to full strength in about 3 months. I was able to put my trust in the coaching staff and be certain that they would push me just far enough and never too far.
This is the best place in Atlanta to get strong and worth every penny.

Adam, John and Duck have done a great job creating an atmosphere where you can challenge yourself and learn a lot about weight lifting the right way. Starting Strength Atlanta is a place where anyone interested in weight training, no matter their age, origin or physical condition, can learn and develop their strength without the usual distractions or annoyances one finds in a typical large gym. Adam’s team really knows their stuff and will help you focus on using the correct form and methods so that you can develop practical strength. I would recommend this gym to anyone.

After reading Peter Attia’s book Outlive along with a few other books and articles on aging and longevity, I realized that I needed to add strength training to my routine. I’ve been a runner for many years but other than body weight exercises and some dumbbell work, I had not been a weight lifter. So where to start?
I did some research and found a book called Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. I read through that and decided to join a gym. But I still didn’t really know what I was doing and knew I needed help with form and programming. I then noticed that a Starting Strength gym was set to open in Atlanta. So I signed up. And while I can only get there on Saturday mornings (I live in Midtown and getting to and from Johns Creek during the week is not practical), I’ve loved my experience.
Here’s the skinny: Adam, Duck, John and the rest of the team have created a culture at Starting Strength that is encouraging, supportive and actually fun. Yes, we work hard. Yes, we push each other. And yes, I’m sore on Sundays. But the culture is the opposite of intimidating. It is like a little family and it keeps me coming back on Saturday mornings.
If you are thinking about adding strength training to your routine (and everyone should, especially as we age) I highly encourage you to try Starting Strength. Your age and current level of fitness don’t matter - just start. If you want the opposite of an intimidating, “bro” gym, start here. It just might change your life.

Amazing experience!! I am an avid runner having completed multiple marathons. I felt that I had lost my muscle mass and strength over the years.
I knew that I could relieve many of my aches and pains with strength training.
Coaches Adam, John, and Duck, have helped me regain the strength that I have lost. I feel that I am lifting like I did as a college student and with their guidance feel comfortable that I am avoiding unnecessary stress or injury.

I've been a long time follower of the SS model, and when I heard that an Atlanta gym was opening up, I seized on the opportunity to sign up. Adam called me up the next day, and after a brief introduction, starting asking me questions about what my goals were. I told him that I wanted to be able to join the 1000lb club (Squat, Press, and Deadlift), and within 4 months, him and Coach John were able to make that long awaited dream a reality.
I would have never imagined sitting here one year later, that I would have ever even sniffed at being in the best shape of my life. Their warm and inviting presence makes it so intoxicating as to not want to miss any training sessions. They are both so knowledgeable and cater every single session to how you are feeling in that moment to try and get the best out of you. The only time you'll feel regret is kicking yourself for not signing up sooner. They will do everything in their power to put you in the right position to get you feeling like you're on top of the world.

I’ve been training at this gym for a while now, and it’s honestly been life-changing. As someone who had never lifted before, I was initially intimidated by exercises like Deadlifts and Squats. But Adam, the founder, has created an incredibly welcoming environment that made me feel at ease from the start. John and Isabelle, my instructors, have been nothing short of amazing. They were unbelievably patient with me as I struggled to get my form right and helped me build confidence every step of the way. Thanks to their guidance, I’ve gone from being nervous about lifting to being excited every day to walk into the gym and achieve new milestones. If you’re looking for a gym with knowledgeable, supportive coaches who truly care about your progress, this is the place to be!

I’ve suffered from back pain my entire life and have tried all types of exercise and therapies to help, but still had pain nearly 24/7. After a couple months at Starting Strength, the pain became almost non existent for the first time in my life. I never thought I would be able to lift heavy weight but after less than a year with the Starting Strength coaches I’m squatting over 200 pounds and feeling better than ever. Not only is the program effective - all the staff and other gym goers are friendly and inviting, making no one feel judged or out place.

Initially, I was really hesitant about joining a lifting gym. My sister had been doing it for many years but I had always been turned off by the gym rat/bro culture. I wasn't interested in being lectured about bulking and cutting and macros.
After being diagnosed with MS in 2023, I knew that staying healthy and sharp were even more imperative, so at my sister's urging, I went to an intro at Starting Strength.
What I found there was a warm, genuine, and enthusiastic environment with people willing and ready to meet me exactly where I was and understood exactly where I wanted to go.
Adam is a jolly and warm trainer with serious smarts and physiologically sound understanding. All of the trainers I've had the pleasure of working with have been the same.
The clientele are there for all manner of reasons - all ages, genders, physical journeys.
I actually look forward to going - truly a mind-blowing idea to me only months ago.
I encourage anyone who is thinking about strengthening their body - and mind - to give Starting Strength a serious look.

From day 1, the environment has been incredibly welcoming. Coach Adam ran our intro sessions and really helped us understand their approach, making the decision to join an easy one. Starting Strength is a life-changing program, and I’m typically very reluctant to use phrases like that because they often over-exaggerate. In this case, it’s 100% valid. Its impact is not just on specific muscles and related bone density — it’s a whole body workout. And, because of its precise lift postures and its thoughtful process of stressing and recovering your body, you continuously evolve with more and more capability. Starting Strength has changed my strength (naturally), my fitness, my balance, helped me lose 20 pounds, increased my energy — and indeed, enhanced my outlook and passion for life.
It’s clear none of this would be possible without the complementary coaching of experts like the Atlanta owner, Adam Martin. I am grateful to have him as my coach. To a lifelong skeptic of weight training and trainers in general, Adam brings a patient, knowledgeable and fact-based approach to everything he persuades you do at his gym. And while he looks like the nightmare drill sergeant of an Army conscript, he is kind and encouraging, and in fact quite wise about life in general.
I’m a senior tech executive and father of four with plenty to do during my day. Nonetheless I look forward to driving to each session and the endorphin high I get afterwards. I am actually bummed when a vacation gets in the way!
I highly, highly recommend looking at Starting Strength — especially if you’re a Gen X-er like me. It’s a proven training to push back the “designed-in” obsolescence of our bodies and minds. You’ll be so proud of yourself, and make some good friends along the way.

Starting Strength has finally opened here in Georgia!! I've been following them for several years on the internet and like their concept of their approach to barbell training. I've been training for a month now and I must say that it has more than met and surpassed my expectations. If you're looking for a no nonsense gym that has a structured training program for your individual goals. Then this is the place to train. Adam is a very knowledgeable, motivating and inspirational coach. During and after every work out set he corrects any flaws in your set up and execution of the repetitions. He knows how to communicate with you with specific cues in order to perform the movements efficiently as possible. I've been progressively improving on all my lifts and looking forward to getting Strong!!

I started working with Coach Adam Martin prior to the Starting Strength Gym Atlanta opening. Since the gym was not open, we did all of my training virtually with the exception of one in person session. I can say the strength, fitness and overall health gains have been nothing short of remarkable. My bench press currently sits at 200 lbs and my dead left and squats are above 300lb. This is not bad for a 55 year old male training for 3 months. The emphasis on correct movement throughout the exercise is crucial to creating a very strong muscle that is able to avoid injury. I started with both back and knee problems and those issues have been mitigated due to the strengthening of the supporting muscles. Most importantly, coach Adam is encouraging but realistic about where I am and where I can go. I can't thank Adam enough as I am now on a journey to see how strong I can get

I have been looking forward to the opening of Starting Strength Atlanta, so I could avail myself of their coaching expertise on a consistent basis. After watching the first rep of my first set of squats, at my very first workout, coach Brent Duckett cued me what to do different on the rest of my reps, in just a few words. He gave more detailed coaching after the set was over. Just a few weeks in, I feel my squat is on a trajectory for personal records. The same process is occurring for my presses and deadlift.
The community aspect of Starting Strength Atlanta is such that I can see, and learn from, other dedicated trainees from all walks of life, young and old alike. Whether they train at 0600, first thing in the morning, or noon time, when everyone else is on their lunch break, or in the evening, in spite of a long day, all trainees have their dedication bolstered by the support from others around them, as well as the personalized coaching from Brent and coach Adam Martin.
