Absolutely amazing place!!! I went rock climbing for the first time last week, and the facility had me quite amazed. There’s a lot of options for bouldering and even for top rope. There’s a weight lifting area that has pretty awesome equipment for you to get a solid workout in. But the staff were the best part of the day! Tanner was super cool and gave us a fun tour of the place, Grace helped me out with a climb I was struggling with, and Juju was super nice and even patched up my sister’s hand when she got hurt. Overall, an amazing experience for me and I’m coming back again next week!

Frustrating and Dishonest Billing Practice
I only signed up for the free one-month trial, which required entering a credit card.
Without any clear notice or consent, they automatically charged me $124 after the trial ended.
When I called HiClimb, they said the payment cannot be canceled or refunded and told me to email customer service instead. That’s completely unacceptable.
This kind of auto-charge without proper notice feels misleading and unethical.
Very disappointing experience — I would never recommend this service to anyone.

Can't say enough good things about my climbing 101 instructor Ava ! They not only made the class feel heard with answering any questions but incorperated fun games and anecdotes to help remember everything. I normally feel very scared climbing becasue of my fear of heights but because I now know all the mechanics and responsibilities of the belayer and climber (check and pre-checks) I no longer feel I will have as much apprehension climbing alone or with others and thats thanks to Ava! Please give her a raise!

Lots of routes/boulders. Based on my experience (30yrs climbing), they're a little hard for the grade.

Absolutely worth the visit! They do provide rope if you want to lead.
Walls are really short so the routes are very bouldery. Grades felt pretty accurate to me, maybe a little soft on the easy boulder grades.

Love coming here when we are back visiting family! Bouldering walls all around with ropes in the center, plus a strength training area in the corner. The walls are mostly vertical and overhangs, including an awesome cave area, and the style of route-setting makes sense with the V range grading system they use. The differing wall, hold, and volume colors does sometimes confuse me as to what is considered on there though. Also recently as a non-member, I was confused when I was purchasing a hand cream and was asked for my phone number, no context given and I was too surprised to inquire so I just gave it. Later I received a promotional text to which I did not consent so I immediately and easily unsubscribed but felt the whole interaction was odd. I’d also note that it can feel quite hot when crowded and since the gym is very child-friendly, you have to be a little more aware of who is the vicinity of your chosen climb. But they have fans all around and parents usually seem to be nearby. Also it’s neat that they do promotions (buy one, get one 60% off day passes) which I’m really well targeted for through Instagram ads!

Quick Lyft ride from Waikiki. First time discount with equipment included with harness for all day! When we came there were resetting the wall and can come back to try new routes later today. Friendly, nice. Kids loved it and want to go back before we leave

Came here to top rope and the staff didn’t have any instructors that wanted to help. They were all very rude. Been to gyms on the mainland. This was not my first gym. Love Hawai’i. This place could do better. They could not email my refund and had to also print a paper copy.

HiClimb is an amazing climbing gym. The space is clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. Every detail feels intentional, from the layout of the bouldering routes to the friendly front desk staff who are willing to answer any questions you have. The routes are m fun, challenging, and creative, with frequent resets that keep things fresh for climbers of all levels.
What really sets HiClimb apart, though, is the vibe. The community here is incredibly welcoming and supportive. Whether you’re a beginner learning the ropes or a seasoned climber chasing your next project, there’s something here for you. My son and I had a great time climbing here.
This place doesn’t just make you a better climber—it makes you love climbing even more.

Great climbing experience.
The people were lovely and welcoming.
The training area was average.
I wish they had a spray wall.and there is no campus boards.
My only complaint is that it is hot and dusty,(but it’s in Hawaii so I understand)

Keiki Lessons Rock at HiClimb Hawai’i!
My daughter, now 7, has been attending the Keiki classes at HiClimb for about three months and absolutely loves it! She looks forward to every session and has made amazing progress in her climbing skills.
The price is very reasonable—especially when you purchase a bundle of lessons—and includes 1.5 hours of full training with all the gear provided. What we love most is the flexibility: there’s no obligation to commit to weeks in advance. You can use your lesson tokens as you go, just call ahead the week of (or even the same day!) to reserve a spot that works for your schedule.
The instructors are phenomenal. Every single one we’ve met has been enthusiastic, patient, and fully engaged with the kids. The staff vibe is consistently top-notch—these folks genuinely love what they do, and it shows. They’re always excited to be there and ready to keep the kids challenged, entertained, and learning.
Safety is clearly a top priority. The thick padded flooring gives peace of mind, and they use both auto-belays and traditional belay systems, where the instructor manages the rope. It’s reassuring to see how closely they watch and guide each climber.
Sometimes my daughter is the only student, which means one-on-one instruction. Other times, when there are more kids, they play super fun group games that combine climbing with teamwork, challenges, and lots of laughs—all while building valuable skills.
Parking can be a little tight, so I recommend arriving early. If you’re on the fence, swing by about 10 minutes before a class to check it out in person. You can even sign up for a single trial class to see if it’s a good fit for your keiki. We did that—and haven’t missed a week since!

It's hard for any climbing gym to cater to everyone so I appreciate how HiClimb has a little bit of everything for everyone, from a decent sized bouldering area with different terrains, to a sport climbing wall for top rope, lead, and even auto belay, to a small gym area with weights and hang boards, to a kilter board, and finally even a yoga studio.
You can almost certainly find something to fit your climbing interest, though it comes at the cost of having as much to do. For instance the lead/top rope area isn't very large so you can run out of routes quickly. Bouldering area wise they seem to enjoy setting competition style boulders which may not suit everyone. Setting is also pretty stiff so expect things to feel on the harder end of any given grade range.
The other cost is the day pass fee, I know running a gym is not cheap but visitors may be in for a bit of a price shock if they hope to go one or two times while they are on the island.
Overall if you don't mind the above limitations and the cost of the daypass and want to climb, HiClimb is definitely worth checking out!

2024 Recap: 3.5 stars. Decent climbing gym, helpful staff, frequent setting. Quality and difficulty of the sets are a different matter. Even though the gym has been operating for 3.5 years at this point, the difficulty of the setting feels all over the place within each tag color, and there’s still always at least one extremely awkward problem per set that makes everyone scratch their heads and wonder what the setters were thinking. This is especially true whenever a new setter is hired…it feels like the setting quality goes back to how it was when the gym first opened. Another long-standing issue is the yoga and fitness class schedule. Can you guys stop messing with it? Whenever you guys want to add a new weird class like acro yoga, climber stretch, or handstands(??), it always seems to be a popular class/timeslot that gets axed in order to make room for it. There are barely any vinyasa classes during non-work hours anymore! Also, thanks for announcing a membership rate increase and mailing all members a Christmas card in the same month…that was funny.
@James Varush harsh critic huh? None of the gyms in Hawaii can meet all of your demands. Besides, Hawaii might be a bit too much for you if 75-80 degrees is what you consider to be hot.

I signed up as a member exactly a year ago at this point, and have been enjoying climbing here weekly. The membership price isn’t low, but if you come frequently enough, it is worth it for the amenities and joy you get out of it. There are yoga and fitness classes that you can attend (they have mats and wipes available for you to use), and they have shoes/harness for rent. I’ve met and spoken with the co-owner (there are 2 co-owners I believe) who seemed very cool, driven, and down-to-earth. I also love HiClimb’s story so I’m happy to support the gym. There are 2 small bathrooms equipped with women’s sanitary products (thank you!!), a small area for weight-lifting, a cafe next door, a small seating area upstairs, and the gym is updated maybe ~1 wall per month(?) As a member, you can also bring ONE new guest every time you come as long as they are not a repeated guest within the month - which is a great perk. If there was anything I’d ask for, it might be to upkeep the bathrooms a little more, and to allow dogs in the gym, but all in all - great customer service and very friendly, inclusive community.

Absolutely life this climbing gym. The staff is very friendly and the area is spacious and nice. The people here are also really friendly and inviting, and I've met some great people here! They set 4x a week, which is insane (in a good way), and the problems are pretty unique and the styles are pretty different for a lot of the problems, making for great variety. There's also an area for top rope and lead in the middle of the gym
The grades of the problems are also really fair in my opinion, and pretty consistent which is nice.
They also have a workout area which is nice, but a bit small and the equipment could use some love.
There's also a yoga studio with free lessons if you have a membership or a pass for the day. I've never been in a yoga class until coming here, and I did back to back classes. The instructor was great and helpful to newcomers and those with experience
Overall, absolutely love the gym and would definitely come back again if I'm in Honolulu

Staff definitely needs some customer service and safety training. I've been climbing for 30 years and was stopped mid-belay by a young employee because I wasn't using their preferred belay PBUS method. (There was NO safety issue on my part)
Mind you, I was belaying my child who was near the top and was shaking as I was coaching him through. With zero regard for safety and more concern that my hand movement of the slip slap slide method wasn't what she thought was correct despite it being more safe, and used on big wall climbing. My brake hand never left the rope. Never.
Then after that negative interaction her manager approached me to apologize for the way she approached me, but then he didn't let me clear my knot before telling me my method of belay was not the preferred and asked me to do it “their way”. I declined and we left as my son was frustrated with the whole incident.
At the least, we had a safety issue from an employee and poor communication skills by this staff. Yet as we walked away I turned to see the manager tell the young employee not to worry about it!
After we left, we received an anonymous call from an employee asking that I don’t return!?!?
Unreal. Won't be returning. Keep your eye on your kids while here.

Eh. I guess if all you want to do is boulder it’s ok. Good luck using the auto belays though, there are always kids using that area like a jungle gym. Half the time they aren’t even actually climbing the routes, they’re just laying on the floor while still attached to the auto belay. There are also often groups that come in and take over the area, continuously handing them off amongst themselves with zero regard to others who are waiting. No etiquette whatsoever. Basically it feels like the tourist area where the tourists get priority over actual members. Routes in general (both bouldering and rope climbing) aren’t great. Lots of awkward moves, not sure if the route setters have no idea what they’re doing or just don’t care. I suppose this gym benefits from the fact that there isn’t any competition in the area and they can collect that tourist money. Not to mention the $100+ monthly membership fee.

Our daughter brought us here to climb and met her friend Anthony who works there. As a trad climber of 40years, I don't go to gyms often. But this is one of the nicest that I have visited. The routes, climbing & bouldering are well marked and they have a good number of related spaces and activites - it is clear that they are creating a place to hang out with friends. My only regret is that I "armed out" quicker than I'd like...but that's the nature of a climbing gym!

Summary:
- Super fun.
- Costs a lot (-1 star)
- like a gym, expect some body odor around. But harness and shoes smelled terrible.
Went here with my wife and 2 daughters (ages 5 and 7). It's very kid friendly. However, not sure what the minimum age is, but they definitely had gear meant for my 5 year old (who's small for her age).
We qualified for the 1st time Kama'aina discount ($25 day pass + free rentals).
Overall, great experience. Staff was great, daughters loved climbing.
Few negatives:
- COST. $25 per person, so it was $100 for 4 of us. It's an all day pass, but realistically you're gonna get tired and leave within 2-3 hours. Price wasn't bad honestly. However, that's only the 1st time visit. Any visits after require paying for rental gear per person. That's gonna add up really quick. At $100, it hurts the wallet, but doable. Add in the gear rentals, and it's honestly too expensive, so I likely won't be coming back. If they keep it at $100, possibly yes.
- SMELL. It's an indoor climbing area, with a gym, classes, etc. So it's expected. However, I could smell some heavy body odor coming from our harnesses. Not sure how well they clean it after each use. The shoes also, OMG, it smelled really bad from the start already. I'm sure the staff do their best to clean it, but unless you're thoroughly washing it, it's gonna smell. So be warned.

Overall they have a good climbing community with respectful staff and they support the local climbing community so I would recommend them.
They started charging for lead ropes. I’ve never heard of or seen any climbing gym anywhere that does that so I think it’s too much. Their daily prices are high for what you get. The gym is extremely hot at times. They did install fans but they don’t help that much. They really need AC, especially for the price they charge. It’s crazy hot in there (91F I’ve seen). The staff are nice and the wall is nice.

The first time day pass for $26 is way too expensive. It's a bundle that includes gear rental. There should be an option for first time drop in without rentals for cheaper. I had shoes and chalk and didn't need any of their rentals.
I liked their world cup boulder route but setter should be more conscious about safety. The current route is set too close to the corner and as I fell on the last move , my head landed dangerously close to the wall to the left. Otherwise the routes are fun and I had a great time. I would recommend coming here for a first time drop in but the returning rates simply too high.

This is now a regular stop while in Honolulu. The staff is very helpful. For Hawaii, and the quality of this climbing gym in Hawaii, the price is great.
Those complaining about price and how it is cheaper back home . . . should probably just climb at home. There's plenty to do in Hawaii that you probably can't do at home. We are super stoked this gym and others are promoting the sport in Hawaii.

My wife and I came here, over our honeymoon.
They had a great selection of holds on the wall and great variety of movement. A pretty sweet little cave section with sit and stand starts for certain problems.
We are boulderers so we stuck to those for the 3 hrs we were there.the beginn problems were pretty fun too, not just basic which as an ex-routesetter, I really did appreciate that they clearly put the time and effort to make the beginner boulders fun and engaging too.
There's also also a lil cafe attached to the gym that made some great food and acai bowls.

The staff on Saturday was awesome! They provided great instructions on climbing, self belaying, and top belaying. Had a great time and sore hands!😁 Recommended for small groups and team events. Special shout out to Pat, Gracie, and Tanner for taking such an interest in our Venture Crew 808!

Awesome bouldering gym with lots of variety. Def a gym you want to check out if you have time. You also get free autobelay or can do top rope as well. So definitely can get your moneys worth.
Drop in rates are pricey so we ended up climbing for 3 hours.
Can get quite busy. Suggest going evening bc there’s no AC.
Across the street is a cool place with live music and drinks (work play) which is a nice post climb stop.

Okay indoor climbing. Routes are not the best and the I often don't agree with the levels indicated. Also, now the colours don't mean anything anymore and the levels are indicated by (sometimes torn off) pieces of paper underneath the start of the route. Also, the place is like a day care center - so many kids running around and taking up routes for a long time. Filling out the form before you can train the first time also takes forever and is very frustrating. Rental gear is not the best (shoes are very slippery and chalk bags are often almost empty - also not a big fan of the little bags inside the chalk bags). Staff is friendly but not very helpful and the place is usually a little chaotic. First time I came, I subscribed to a 1 hour beginner course through their website but when we arrived, the course didn't exist and they had to improvise. Also - it's expensive. I guess it's Hawaii, but still. at home, I can train for 1 month unlimited for the price of a day pass here. If you want a membership then you have to pay a fee to get registered (which you can use to buy gear in their shop after a month or so) but it's a little hard to pause the membership. All in all: they focus on making money from lots of kids and by making it expensive for the people from out of state.

I’ve been climbing for a few years and I enjoyed my first visit at HiClimb. I’m giving it 4 stars because 1) people getting on the routes that are in the way of my route while I’m on the wall. Although this isn’t the gyms fault but maybe staff could mention common climbing etiquettes as part of their walk through to new climbers. 2) the steeeeep price for day passes. I understand that prices in Hawaii is higher but perhaps you could consider a sliding scale? Tufas in Philly does it and I really like it. The current price makes climbing inaccessible to low income people.. :(

Lots of potential, not quite there yet.
Clean, open area, friendly staff, seems geared towards beginners. Bouldering routes are lacking, half the wall is bare and the routes that are there lack creativity and unique holds and don't seem catered to advanced climbers. Training gym feels cramped if there are more than 2 people trying to use weights or bars.
This gym not worth the price at all if you've been to other climbing gyms before. I see so much potential, just hire better route setters and buy more holds with those 100 dollar a month memberships.
Edit: 1 star. Cancelled membership in person 6 weeks ago and emailed personal support but they just keep charging $103 every month.

Experienced gym climber, visited once. Overall impressed with the facility, it's a modern climbing gym with a very large bouldering wall. The lead, top rope and auto belay section is very small and not very tall. I did not try any of these, but I did boulder for 3 hours. The whole gym is new, the holds are modern and super grippy. They have some volumes which have good texture. The walls are pretty smooth, so there isn't much opportunity for smearing. Unfortunately the routesetting is not very good - it felt like a lot of problems were sandbagged or misgraded. I attempted about 80% of the problems in the gym. I was not able to complete many of the problems at the grade levels I usually climb at. The biggest downside is that they grade based on the color of the holds, which severely limits the route setters ability to be creative. For example, yellow holds are graded V0-V2, which is a massive spectrum, nearly beginner through intermediate, and so the majority of people coming to visit here are limited to only the yellow hold problems which are not very diverse in their style, mostly jugs. The more difficult grade levels did have a few interesting problems with interesting holds, but generally I felt it would be impossible to project any of these in one session. I do hope they can improve the setting because this facility is gorgeous and has so much potential. The crowd was super friendly and they had good tunes, a fully equiped climbing store with a huge selection of hard to find shoes. Oahu is lucky to have this gym and I'd return the moment I visit the island again.

Very friendly staff and nice facilities. Had a good restart after 2 years of no climbing. Would love to give 5 stars but it's soooo expensive. Definitely can't come weekly with a family of 4 (in Japan kids under 5 were free). Also, this is the first gym I've been to that has you tie in for top rope instead of just using double, opposing carabiners. Tying in for every route is quite time consuming. I get that it's good to practice in the gym for outdoor skills, but that's what lead climbing is for in my experience (at least overseas). I admit I don't have much US climb experience (mostly climbed in Japan/Korea), but I was very surprised. The rental harnesses were a little strange with a horizontally oriented single tie-in loop causing the gri-gri to flip 90°, which wasn't my fave, but manageable. Thankfully, I had my black diamond harness so not a prob for me, but my family was all in rentals. My wife has never belayed using a gri-gri so she wasn't certified by the staff (just fyi), which was understandable. We've only ever used black diamond ATC devices. There are a few auto belay routes, but today there was a family with a handful of kids playing on them and not letting anyone else use them (not the staff's fault of course), but I was hoping for my little one to spend more time learning on there. Gym etiquette is definitely different in Asia. We spent the day just bouldering instead. This gym doesn't have a slab, either which I found strange because that's how new climbers build confidence. Last comparison to overseas gyms I noticed is that the walls seemed sparsely populated with routes. We're used to walls absolutely jam packed with holds and complex routes of all difficulty levels crisscrossing the walls. It's just different, you know? Parking in the garage nearby was convenient and only a few bucks. You can park on the street, but I prefer parking somewhere safe and in the shade. We paid 9 bucks for parking in the garage next to the gym on a Sunday for 2 hours. Afterward we ate at Waikiki Brewing Company, which was only 1 block away. Overall a great day, we'll be back! 4 stars! 😁

TLDR:
Day pass price is nuts, but I get that they’re trying to build out and need people to move towards a monthly membership which is a normal, fair rate. Just sucks for the day pass visitors.
But overall a gym worth checking out! Membership is the way to go if you’re a local. I would 100% climb here regularly and enjoy it if I lived here. Good community, good gym. If you’re a local, you have to come here. This gym will just keep getting better. It has so much more potential, and they need your support!
Positives:
First of all, this is a nice, clean gym with a very friendly staff. Nice walls, holds, mats, and a good facility all around. Everything is clean and well maintained. It has a cafe and a small study area. It has an okay gym / weight area.
There’s bouldering and rope climbing. And there are several auto belays! Very few gyms have auto belays back home (I’m from the SF Bay Area). This is a huge huge plus IMO. My home gym has auto belays which I use all the time to get laps in. Not needing a partner is so convenient.
Could use improvement:
The route setting itself is decent, but the problems are limited and not as plentiful for the amount of space there is. I don’t like messy, full walls, but I think they could add a lot more problems to make it feel less sparse.
Downside IMO:
Anytime I travel I’ll bring my shoes to try out different gyms with my kids. I looked up the prices online first and it was $38 for a day pass. I told my kids not to come… haha. So I left them behind with my wife and went by myself. The staff member said it’s $26 since it’s my first time when I showed up. That was nice, but I wish that was on the website (maybe I missed it?) so I could have brought 2 of my kids. But the $38 is a huge huge turn off. Even the nicest, decked out gyms in the Cali Bay Area are $30 for day passes, so $38 is pretty insane. I legitimately was about to drive an extra 20 mins to go to Oahu Bouldering (been there before) for their prices which are much more fair but opted to try here since I’ve never been.
Another negative (not the gym’s fault) is the parking. There is a parking structure next to the gym but it’s $1.50 per half hour. Since I wanted to get my day pass worth it, I stayed for 3 hours… so that added another $9 to the gym session.
I live for climbing so a lot of prices don’t bother me (I’ll even do double memberships to climb at 2 gyms), but $38 + rental (if you need) + parking = ☠️
But besides the prices.. all in all, a good gym!

Nice place, good attitudes, helpful. Bad parking situation. This place could house many more boulder problems than it does. Also a weird grading system that the color of the holds = the difficulty of the problem rather than just attaching a difficulty card/rating like other gyms. Seems that it limits the variety of problems that could be set imho

I’m an indoor climber for the last ~ 5 years and regularly climbing 2-4 times a week during those years.
I visited the HiClimb gym few times with my partner while on vacations in Hawaii.
Pros: I think the only gym with ropes in Oahu.
Gym is focused on bouldering, good selection of boulder problems.
Fitness, workout section on the site.
Long hours 8am-11pm
Cons: It’s more expensive compare to my home-gym in the Bay Area.
Located in a shady looking neighborhood with hard to find parking.
Mostly boulders, not many top ropes or lead routes. Overall the gym is small in compare with other places in US mainland.
The rope climbing section is “packed” and routes are narrow and close to each other. This has strong implications on the route setting. Many routes have to be climbed “awkwardly sideway”.
We found the rating to be inconsistent as often we would onsite 5.11c and then fall on 5.10b but hey maybe those were not our style.
Route setting is done for taller people, I found that shorter women would struggle immensely on few climbs.
Climbing walls are made of plywood that is quite scratchy and rough. It ate my shoes quite fast.
Please put more fans, it’s so fricking humid :)
Overall, an OK gym for my vacation workout but falls short in compare with what you can see in other places.

They'll also be hosting a built in Cafe serving high end coffee, workout smoothies, low-sugar protein packed acai bowls and rotating grab and go meals.
Parking:
Halekauwila, Kamani and Ahui st have lots of free street parking. Mother Waldren Park is great for after work hour parking.

One of the best rock climbing gyms I’ve had the pleasure of going to!
The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, Anthony, Tyler and Devin and honestly the whole crew make this place amazing.
They currently have three auto belay systems in the back, buddy belaying around the center you can get certified to experience, and a whole lot of bouldering all around!
The yoga studio and weight letting section will be opening soon as well!
Water bottle refill station, lockers and an awesome little cafe that has good açaí bowels and coffee!
The Taco truck right outside called Mo Tacos is also one of my favorite taco spots on the island, try the steak or shredded pork tacos.
Overall come to HiClimb, it’s honestly like a adult Disneyland for climbers and adventure seekers!
