It’s a Planet Fitness, so you know what to expect in regards of equipment. This location is definitely somewhat on the lower end of the Planet Fitness spectrum. Some of the equipment could use replacing and one more smith machine wouldn’t hurt since they are almost always occupied (the gods forbid they add a squat rack and a bench). My only real issue is the hours at this location. A 7p close time on the weekends is unfortunate.

Great place to get in a workout without hassle.

It would be a five star rating but this location is challenged in trying to keep equipment and supporting facilities in repair. A minor example, there is a missing towel hook between two of the Men’s showers… it has been missing, my best guess, for over a year! It is a simple hook… what does it take to have a handy person pick one up at Ace and install it!

When I first tried PF last summer, I was impressed with how spacious it was. Much nicer than I expected. And currently, I really enjoy how easy it is to just pop in, do some stretching and enjoy a hydro or chair massage - perfect for after my Orange Theory Fitness classes across the parking lot!

So just showed up. The app said 2 out of 10 in busyness. Tried one of the only machines open but the cables were still broken from before I went on vacation for 17 days. People are sitting on machines texting, on phone and playing games so they are not using or getting off of machines.the stretching balls are always flat.
Bathrooms are wet everywhere because customers are rude enough not to care.

Maui's sole Planet Fitness opened up in a 25,000 SF spot at the Puunene Shopping Center in March 2018. This was the state's second location (first one is at Ala Moana Center on Oahu).

THE GYM:
They tout themselves as a "judgement free zone", meaning they don't tolerate having hardcore workout nuts in house. Excessive grunting, dropping of weights, wearing of bodybuilder tank tops, drinking water out of a gallon jug, or "judging" and intimidating people will set off an actual siren called the "lunk alarm". The open floor plan features a tiny amount of dumbbells and free weights up to 70 pounds, a few machine weights, rowing machines and TV-equipped ellipticals, bikes, stair climbers and treadmills. A separated section in the back features a 30-minute circuit work out area where you jump from station to station under the direction of red and green lights. Another area is reserved for stretching and ab training. The men's locker room sported a good number of lockers though you need to provide your own lock. There are about five shower stalls with amenities and a few changing rooms. You must bring your own towels. Water, juices and sport beverages are sold at the check in desk.

BLACK CARD:
For an additional monthly fee, you get access to their Black Card Spa which is a separate area in the gym that features Hydromassage beds, massaging chairs, tanning booths and the Total Body Enhancement which is some kind of vibrating contraption. Additional perks are nationwide PF gym usage, beverages at half price, unlimited Fitness Training (classes) and allows one guest of yours access to the gym and spa area. Regardless of having two friends with Black Cards, I just can't commit to joining them for a free gym session, LOL.

OVERALL:
Great addition to the island and for those who want to exercise away from the "lunks".

My neighborhood Planet Fitness has a few negative reviews online which almost resulted in my not visiting them. But my experience so far has been positive. Front desk crew members are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. Bathrooms and showers are cleaned regularly. The members are friendly and respectful and wipe down the equipment after each use. After work hours can get packed so I prefer mid-day and mornings. 99.9% of equipment and massage chairs are in working order and if something isn’t working, it’s fixed pretty quickly.

This gym is the closest to me so it’s convenient to drive there. Staff is mostly friendly and the gym is spacious. Tanning beds are NOT cleaned after every guest. Lamps are missing. They said they are waiting for them to be changed, considering we live on the island that is understandable.
Whenever i went, there was hair in the booth, disposable eye protection, and lamps had white cast over them. Very dirty and gross. Tells you that it is most definitely not cleaned after each guest as it should be wiped down because ppl touch the lamps with who knows what.
Massage chairs are a bonus but they unfortunately are broken a lot of the times. Right now they have 3out of 4 stair masters broken! Said it would be fixed but it’s still not. I went inside the gym and same person was on it when i left the gym. You get what you pay for I suppose..
Would not recommend this gym unless you have no choices around you like myself.

I love Planet Kahului, where the staff know me and accept me. Where "no judgement" means exactly that! That is large enough a facility that it rarely feels crowded, even when there are lots of patrons there. I especially love that my dancing on the treadmill doesn't draw stares! Perfect place to have a quick shower before a red-eye flight out of Maui. Close enough to car rental and airport if you need a shower. $20 for day pass for non-members, $5 for current members, no charge for black-card members. Use the app to check-in. Update: 7/7, So they changed their hours... now no early morning workouts for so many people, opens at 5am so they basically screwed over much of the working class and have to cram them into prime time hours which this place is already stupid crowded and you get lumped in with all the teenagers that sit on the equipment with their phones in hand rather than working out. Place is run down and crowded, so it's time for me to pack up and close my account since their hours don't favor working class people.

It gets the job done, I'm there 4 days a week. Some equipment is already worn down, ie the pads on the bicep curl machine. A simple cover would suffice. Can get busy at times Google peak hours are on target but it can die down quickly. Temperature is usually between 67-69 which I find is a great range for working out in. The music they play is not bad and not overly loud or to soft. I listen to my own music but on the occasion my earphones die their music helps me get through the session. Bathrooms are in okay condition. Wifi works well with no problems for me. There is a lot of parking available. I don't like how the hours change for the weekend as it throws off my routine which often leads to a missed gym day. Gym equipment doesn't have as much as 24 hour but for the price you would be hard to find anything remotely as close. The black membership is completely worth the double price. Always good to have a motivating gym buddy as a workout partner, with the black membership you can bring in a guest with you

Was here on a business trip. The first day was fine. Got in the car and saw a roach run out of my bag. Second day, Absolutely filthy with roaches. I video taped one running amuck. Needless to say, we DID NOT return. The custodian with the red hair said "they are clean enough" referring to the showers that had gobs of hair. There are also homeless people there that they allow to use the showers. A homeless woman was using the shower and literally setup camp.

Often too busy, unsanitary. Poor oversite of the facility for rule infractions, shower curtains are filled with bacteria as they are 6 inches too long. The water to fill my water bottle isn't even cold. Most of the treadmills don't have working television. The 30 minute are has people bringing in free weights, hogging the time on the bicep curl machine. Inside of lockers is not cleaned daily. Unsanitary!

I come in every single evening to use the tanning beds…one thing that im pretty sure of is… I don’t think any of the staff has ever cleaned them! At least a majority the last 2+ years , I can’t speak for any of the other members, but I clean them every time I use them, but they really REALLY desperately need a thorough clean like a deep deeeeep clean!
Another thing that’s frustrating is one of the beds always seems to shut off before you get your complete tan and this evening was one of those evenings and when I went out to the front to ask if I could get the remaining five minutes on another tanning bed the employee replied with for security reasons we can’t do that when for the past two years anytime this is ever happened they make sure that I got the remaining five minutes that were lost… so I can say about that is consistency is missing. too many gray areas and needs to be more about the customer and what makes them happy while staying in the guidelines of the Planet Fitness rules and regulations..

While I do like how spacious and clean the gym is, I noticed some of my workout clothes were suddenly getting bleach spots on them. I literally don’t own bleach so I was super confused. I’m currently on the treadmill and an employee started blasting the treadmills next to me with bleach to clean. This is absolutely NOT ok.

It’s okay, I’m not a big fan of planet fitness gyms. They’re just not meant for advance bodybuilders. However, this location was alright being that it is in Maui. You can get a workout in, but yes there will be many youngsters playing around with the weight equipments and such(especially the young ladies) but that’s most gym chains. We entered this facility and Robin, the manger, asked us to wait on the corner as he was serving another customer. Then in the check in process, he forced us to download the PF app (to enter a guest name) which did not work. He made us to wait for ~30 min in the heat just playing with the app, blaming on our phone, trying all different app diagnostic methods, etc. So instead of a entering the gym, we had to deal with PF the app issues. Very disappointed with the level of customer service understanding of the staff. The facility itself looks fine and functioning.

Very clean and specious, lots of workout space & equipment, but then again I was in the middle of the day so not knowing.
Restroom were pretty cloran too.
Music was NOT too loud, but AC was NOT cold enough my opinion.
COVID alert - the instructors do walk around and ask everybody to wear a mask and put it back on their nose (like that’s what’s gonna save the world from COVID - but I understand, they’re only following orders). On the other hand no towels are needed when using any machine and nobody’s really wiping down the weights after use.

Machines are frequently out of order for maintenance, for weeks or months at a time, which can make it difficult to workout. Many people here are not courteous if others (eg, hogging machines for a long time while they socialize or text, or using the stair master to stretch their legs for 15 minutes post workout). You really have to fight for very limited equipment. Not a very friendly vibe. It’s a cheap gym and you get a cheap experience.
