I left a while ago because the base I work on has a free gym.... Immediately went back. Gave me back my membership price, with the newest (highest) gym membership perks, since I was also a member then. Great machines too!

I’ve been working out with Ja’MAR at Crunch Black Eagle for a few months now. Even though I’m usually complaining the whole time, he manages to keep me on track, uses effective cues to make sure I’m lifting safely, and I end up enjoying the work out in spite of myself. Ja’MAR is fun, professional and knowledgeable. He’s adapted my training program to focus on endurance as well as strength and I both feel and see the results. He is always on time and prepared for our work out and he uses the time efficiently. I may not look forward to early morning work outs but Ja’MAR makes it fun and I’m achieving my goals with his help.
The gym itself is fine. Not crowded in the morning. The staff is friendly and I always enjoy chatting with River at the front desk.

the parking lot is a mess. there's no painted lines so it's just whatever you can get. it's like trying to park in the winter with snow on the ground. the part of the locker room I've been in is alright. could stand to be cleaned a little better. it needs some fans to air the room out some.
the equipment upstairs seems clean and there's a decent amount of space up there. I think they could use more plates. but the bathroom upstairs is horrendous. it needs to be taped off, deep cleaned and remodeled.
I also think it's a bit scammy to allow us to sign up with credit card as a primary, and only option to pay for. but then showing up there and being asked to use a direct deposit from my checking instead. it was an easy fix online to put it back onto my credit card. but that isn't cool overall

Gym Needs an Overhaul
Many reviews, and my own experience, point to the same issue: this gym desperately needs an overhaul.
When I started, my membership was supposed to be covered by the Idaho PHA (Preventative Health Assistance) program. However, no one at the gym seemed to know what it was or was willing to help. Because of this, I ended up purchasing a membership on my own, with no explanation of what was included. To make matters worse, after buying online, I was told I'd have to provide bank account and routing information due to past fraud issues. I was offered a month of limited free access while they "tried" to resolve the PHA issue, but the only follow-up I received was an email from the manager stating they couldn't help.
Cleanliness and Safety Concerns
Cleanliness is a constant problem, especially in the upstairs bathrooms. While the staff are incredibly nice and welcoming, they don't seem to prioritize attentiveness to these issues. Finally, the parking lot lights need to be on at night for member safety.
This gym has significant potential; it just needs passion and effort to revitalize it.

I have been a member for about 2 years now. The facility is filthy. I noticed the same band-aid on the floor of the showers for over 2 weeks. There is dirt and grime everywhere. It's a shame, this facility could be really nice if they put in minimal effort.
I am moving and have tried to cancel my membership 3x now. When I called, they told me they can't cancel over the phone, and that I would have to email the manager. I have sent 3 emails and no response. Very disappointing.

I was so excited to go to this gym. Until I walked in….. the locker rooms and the bathrooms are disgusting. I like working out in the morning before work. After my workout, I didn’t not want to shower in there. Yes, it was so bad… that i chose to go sweaty to work.

I have been a member at this location for quite a few years. About six months ago I moved away, but decided to hang onto my membership in hopes that I could use the facility when I was in town. Today, I faced reality decided it was time to end the membership as I rarely unable to come out here. Colton made it super easy for me to close out my membership with zero fuss. Helpful staff, friendly environment.

I signed up online and chose to pay with a debit card. When I visited the location in person I was told I would have to give my bank account information. I don't appreciate there is an option to pay by card online but told something else in person. I don't like paying by direct withdrawal. If this had been made clear on the website I would not have enrolled in a membership.
Also absolutely no information about the gym was given to me even though I said it was my first time in. No information about what my membership includes, amenities available etc. I was not asked if I had any questions.
There is a wide range of equipment but the locker rooms are pretty dingy and in need of repair. Also couldnt check out the pool on Saturday morning because it was being used for kids swim lessons. I see this place doesn't have the best rating and was willing to give it a shot but I think especially because of needing my bank info I will start looking elsewhere. Glad I didn't sign a contract and chose month to month.

Polite staff only problem here is that this corporation is dedicated to scamming people. During the summer they had a special going on where you could sign up for $1 and all you had to pay was an anual fee(as you would at any other gym) I decided to cancel my membership after the first week and per “policy” i was charged another $75 annual fee+ $45 monthly fee because you have to give them a 30 day notice!!! Their policies are ridiculous! I should have listened to the reviews but I wanted to see for myself.

In June I signed up for some personal training after PT for an ankle replacement. I gave the staff my credit card info for billing every 2 weeks. Imagine my surprise when I got a letter from a collection agency a month later stating I was overdue with my payments. I have NEVER received a letter from a collection agency and have a great credit rating. I talked to Brandon as he was the person who had all my information. He said he would straighten it out and acted like it was no big deal. Well, it was a big deal! I didn’t get anymore letters and I still don’t know if this has affected my credit rating. When I gave my 30 days notice on August 19 to stop my personal training, I noticed Brandon didn’t write anything down. I asked how he was going to remember to cancel me and he said not to worry. A couple weeks later he called me at home asking if I was the one who wanted to cancel my training. I said yes and also followed up with him the next week. He said it would be taken care of. Well, it wasn’t taken care of and I have received three more charges for $176. I have called Walter and Brandon and have been assured a refund on my cc is forthcoming but my cc company has nothing! I’ve been working on this for over a month and am frustrated, angry, etc. This is no way to run a business. My cc company will get involved if necessary but I was trying to give Crunch a chance to fix it. I would never recommend this gym.

Front desk reception yelled at me to check in, when I was clearly grabbing an energy drink from the fridge. Plus there were three people at the front, how would I sneak in? Then when I went to pay for the drink, he complained I was paying with cash. Cmon be a little more friendly, I understand not being paid a lot working at a gym but you’re the first person anyone sees when they walk into the gym. Overall like this location, but the workers need to be a tad friendlier.

Facility is fine but front desk staff was very underwhelming.
I came in to get my membership started back up and the person was giving judgemental looks to her coworker, disregarding others who had asked for assistance and wouldn't take the time to explain the differences between the memberships to me. Maybe she was just having a bad day but as someone who had to really get motivation to show up and try to get started, she was not the employee they should have up there.
She wasn't able to help me and sent me away after 15 minutes 😒

I am a 58 year old woman who recently broke my ankle. After completing physical therapy, I was still feeling unsteady. I signed up for personal training with Brandon Johnson at the Crunch Fitness on Maple Grove. HE HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!! This dynamic and dedicated coach designed workouts of functional movement just for me. He pushed me beyond what I believed I was capable of accomplishing. In 8 weeks, I have lost 24 lbs, which was not even a goal I had set, and my mobility, balance, and strength have improved so so so much. Shout out to the whole staff and specifically the other Brandon who leads the trainers team. I can’t recommend this experience more highly. Give yourself this gift. Brandon Johnson for the win!

I have been going to Crunch for over two years now and had to cancel my membership cause we are moving and I’m going to go to a closer gym. I was planning on canceling my membership this week but got really sick with food poisoning yesterday so I wasn’t able too. Today I finally feel better and I saw that my card was charged with my monthly crunch charge and the annual fee as well (today is the 1st of the month). I called Crunch and Walter, the GM picked up. He explained that normally you have to cancel in person or email and that Crunch will still charge you for the next month when you cancel, that is just their policy. Walter was SO kind and was able to get it canceled for me over the phone and waived the fees since I wasn’t going to be coming back to the gym this month. Walter you have no idea how your kindness and generosity made my day, especially after being so sick. I should have canceled my membership a month ago but he still showed me grace & care, being so professional and understanding on the phone. I was so relieved I didn’t have to go in or worry about those fees. Thank you Walter! You truly are a wonderful human being and your kindness and treatment made an impact! I am so grateful!

The process to cancel is absolutely absurd! I have been trying to cancel for 2 months but keep getting charged. They want me to pay that balance for services I haven’t used and have explained to them that I had a major surgery on my foot and can’t physically come to the location, and their response is well pay for what you aren’t using and then we will cancel you. The compassion for people that are literally going through trauma in their life is absolutely mind blowingly low! They don’t care about you, just your money! The manager has zero craps to give about any of it!

I also would like to add the two woman you have had working the desk seem more interested in there phones then engaging with people walking in. Really disappointed I was told this issue would be resolved yet here we are again. Had to drive to state st to use there gym.
May 11 2024 sat 710 am and no staff has shown about 20 people waiting outside to use gym. Amateur stuff here not happy at all and neither are the people waiting in there cars.

I wasn’t going to write a review but after a repeated incident and the manager not calling me, I decided I needed to follow through and write it. I went to the Saturday 9:30am Zumba class a few weeks ago. I got there early enough to grab a spot in the front of the class. As I was waiting for the class to start, another student walks in and tells me that I’m in her spot and I needed to move. I told her that I was not moving and it’s a first come first basis on where we stand and I show up early so I can get the spot I prefer. She stood right next to me where she was almost touching me. After class I spoke with the instructor Terri and explained what happened although I’m sure she knew what was going on. Today I went to the class and the same thing happened with the same student. We had a few more words. She wanted me to move from her spot. I told her that I pay my membership just like her and I got there early and would not move. I’ve never been to a gym where anyone has specific spots reserved. She continued to say that they did there and that I needed to adjust to them. She then mentioned that she knew that I had texted the instructor after the first time I took her class. Apparently Terri texted her to tell her what she and I discussed. I told her I hadn’t text Terri and I called Terri over and asked if I had text her, Terri said no. I told the student that I had spoken with Terri after the class not texted her. I had to leave the class early this morning but I stopped and filed a complaint with the girl in the front desk. She said she would pass on the information to the manager. I called them a few minutes later and asked that they have the manager call. Instead I received a call from the instructor asking me if I had filed a complaint. I told her yes and that I didn’t think it was right for her to text the student after our discussion. In my opinion, it was very unprofessional. Terri kept saying that there was plenty of room for everyone and that I had some room to the right of me. The point is not that there was room for me to move, the point is that if I, or any other student shows up earlier than others and finds their spot, that they should not be asked to move because the spot belongs to someone else, it's so ridiculous. The person who shows up later needs to find a different spot. This is how it works in all the other gyms. I am a member of Axiom and attend Zumba classes at three of their facilities. I am also a member of the YMCA and attend Zumba classes at the West And South Y. I’ve been taking Zumba classes at Axiom for years and if I get to a class and someone else in a spot that I typically like to be, I find another spot. I do not tell that person to move because they’re in my spot. That’s Zumba and gym etiquette! I had been trying to get my Zumba friends to join me at this Crunch location because I do love Terri’s class but it’s very clear that they are not welcoming new students. As I told the girl at the desk, the only reason I’m not canceling my membership is because I will use it when I visit California’s location. I hope Terri informs all her students verbally and electronically that no one has reserved spots in her class and I would expect management to place a sign to that effect, as well. I hope that if I decide to attend the class again, this issue is fixed. Enough with the cliques, we’re all adults and don’t need to deal with these types of confrontations and drama.

The facility’s are honestly pretty nice but I had to pay a $45 dollar annual cleaning fee when I had the membership for only 2 months, and I had to pay $97 bill just to cancel out my membership. 0 star all day because TJ the manager needs to be demoted. I’ll squeeze in that the random staff working there are friendly but that’s all this store gets. This manager dude is impossible to get ahold of, lies about giving refunds. I contacted Bradley at another branch and also Preston because this manager just ignores emails, fails to call you back, and won’t speak to you when you’re INSIDE of the same building as him. He told me my refund is on the way a month ago. I just canceled my account a few days ago and a new employee just told that TJ, “doesn’t have the ability to issue refunds, he can only request them from higher up”. I’m waiting thinking that I finally got this guy to do some work and help me out. In reality he can’t do anything but sign people up for memberships, then ignore them after that. Wish I knew that this dude was a waste of time once I FINALLY got ahold of him.
Use this gym if you want but this is unacceptable business practices. I’ve never treated my customers this way, never ignored a missed call, never ignored an email. Get it together guys. If I’m the owner of this shop, I’m pulling this so called “manager” TJ aside and having a serious talk, or just booting him to the curb. Keep my $100 or whatever it was that was supposed to be refunded.

I loved going to this gym for the longest time 1 year to be exact. And sadly as of today I will not be returning. A man was caught filming me working out by 3 other people and when myself and my boyfriend addressed management they simply said they did not have physical evidence to get this man kicked out. The three people who saw him filming even talked to management one saying he saw him delete the photos and videos taken of me as soon as more people started to notice. I am disgusted and angry with the fact that this man has taken priority and will be allowed to return despite the fact that so many people saw him doing something incredibly inappropriate and rude. It is not fair that I now have to feel uncomfortable while this man gets to continue working out there. I am unbelievably upset and angry with the actions taken. The rest of the staff agreed that this man should have been kicked out but the general manager said “this guy has been coming here for years and I cannot kick him out there has never been a complaint before.” I just hope that other women do not have to experience these disgusting actions.

I've been to Crunch's elsewhere, and this is hands down the worst experience I've ever had at one and probably the worst experience at any gym. I came in with a free 1-day trial and the staff was shockingly unpleasant, unhelpful, and borderline incompetent. The male staffer made me go get my car registration to prove my identity, then interrupted my workout to make me come back to the desk to "verify my identity" again, which consisted of me giving them my phone number, again...all of this rather than even look at the email I had from that location. No tour or information was given to try and promote themselves. The staff was just hiding in their office on their phones, and acted like I was causing a major inconvenience when I asked for clips (because there were none in the barbell area). Finally, when leaving I asked about memberships and the same guy who made me get my registration kept insisting that I had purchased a day pass (not true) and how he was willing to "buy it back" if I joined. Like he was doing me a favor.
On top of all of that, the equipment was in terrible shape and the gym itself was really dirty. I'd look elsewhere for a membership. Even Planet Fitness.

In my 20 years of working out, I've learned things from Brandon I've never seen or tried before. It's been seriously awesome! I highly recommend this whole team of trainers and this gym. Decent gym, but forget about ever canceling your membership. These people will refuse to cancel your membership by any means, it’s been 8 months and counting of me emailing, calling and coming in physically to the branch. I’ve been told every excuse under the sun as to why they can’t cancel my membership, even collections dropped my case after I showed them 8 months worth of emails trying to cancel my membership with no response. The incompetence and arrogance of management at this facility is truly unprofessional and unacceptable. Save your money and go to a gym where staff actually cares about you.

Two years ago I had an ATV accident that left me paralyzed and had to have neurosurgery. I was finally released after two years to go back to the gym. I contacted Crunch Fitness in Boise and spoke to the manager TJ. He made me an amazing deal, offering me a 12 week training package which included my gym membership for the next five months. It was very apparent that TJ and the staff truly care about their members and it’s just not about money. It’s been a slow battle to recovery but I’m getting there and I really appreciate TJ and the level of commitment and compassion they show to their members. If you’re looking for a gym that has all the amenities, training, excellent hours along with a staff that cares about your personal needs and growth, I highly recommend Crunch Fitness in Boise.

From the bottom of my heart, do not join crunch. It took well over a year to cancel due to them gaslighting me at any attempt of cancellation resulting in me standing at the front desk dressed like a hobo for well over 30 minutes staring at customers until one of the “managers” would come out and end my membership in which I was informed I had to give them a 30 day notice to cancel so I would be charged one more time before I was “aloud” to end my membership. Please do not join this gym at any location. Ever. If I could give a negative star I would. Please do not join this gym. It is a scam. Also seeing people talking about the pool at this location. It’s been out of service for 5 years. They told me it would be fixed when I signed up as I’m seeing many were told. Please do not, please do not!

!!!PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING CRUNCH!!!
If you are planning to sign up for Crunch. !!!DONT!!! Their personal trainers are good but, they are possibly the most slimy, greedy company I've ever dealt with. While you are getting scammed, you don't see your stolen money going back into the gym. The machines are ancient, the gym is not clean 99% of the time. It's just a very slummy gym for the life savings you are getting scammed for this "gym". Oh, and I do want to mention that EVERYTIME I went in, the employees are trying to make you go into more debt by purchasing their unhealthy "protein powder". It would be more healthy to eat all of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory than to consume their diabetes powder. Crunch might as well change their business and become a call center because they are trying to get every cent out of you as they can. There are WAY BETTER gyms to go to if you want to get your work out and not get scammed like Idaho Fitness Factory down the road or there are many other local gyms in the treasure valley that actually care about you and not just your credit card like Crunch.

Just canceled. last straw, they turned off toiletries. Daycare is open sporadically, staff would rather sit on their phones then greet guest (they don't even look up half the time), machines broken for weeks. When I went to cancel, they told me I'd half to drive to the Caldwell location to cancel (they have the capability at all gyms).

The staff is great. It ends there lol.
Has to be the worst Crunch in America. Always 2 machines broken, or on the verge of breaking.
As of today chest press broken. Seat for row section on cable machine is detached. Bench press pad detached. Cable machine is about to fall apart. Some dumbbells are so chipped apart, there is no way the pair weigh the same. Urinal is always broken. Ceiling leaks.
Nov 20 2023: this frayed cable about took my eye out doing tricep push downs.
Dec 5th. Dumbbells are held together by electrical tape
Jan 13th: cable fly machine is broken.

Cancelled my membership this month and doubt I’ll ever come back. There employees just sit around at the entrance or hide in there office staring at there phones. The areas that contain the sanitary wipes are usually empty on weight lifting floor and the trashes usually look the same by 7pm. The men’s showers in the locker room smell like sewage and the swimming pool has been closed down for years now. If you plan on signing up to this gym I recommend you buy the basic package or go somewhere else

Signing up was a pain in the rear and the kid helping me knew very little. I didn't get a copy of the contract when I signed up in November. Today I was charged an annual fee for each membership (I have 2 since they don't do family memberships) plus I am being charged my regular monthly fee. I will be canceling and going to the Y. This has been a terrible experience.

Save your money and go elsewhere. The customer service is horrible, if anyone is ever at front desk. Manager sits on the front desk and acts like a kid hanging out to workout there. Gym is unkept, dirty, machines are old and overpriced. Go to Axiom or anywhere else. If I could give no stars I would 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

It's a pretty solid gym. They have everything you need and more, although not necessarily everything I'd want. Full line of hammer strength machines (some of the best cable-based machines on the market imo), some really great plate-loaded nautilus machines, plenty of cables including two pulldowns and rows and three dedicated double cable setups, 2-3 power racks and smiths respectively, two incline and flat bench setups, heavy enough dumbbells for anyone, an oly platform, etc. Plenty of cardio equipment, and even some good heavy bags, too. For the price, I can't really complain.
The only glaring weak points are the lack of a hack squat (despite having two V-squats nobody uses) or seated calf raise, and the upper-body matrix machines. They have a full line of them, and they range from acceptable in a pinch to straight garbage. The belt-driven fly machine (the only fly machine) kind of shudders at some weights as well, but it's not the end of the world, just kind of off-putting. I'd trade all of the upper-body matrix machines for one more fly and a hack squat. The early weekend closing is also kinda weird.
That said, it's a solid gym overall, and I would absolutely recommend it. I think they made a couple odd equipment selections, but they only stand out because every single other equipment decision knocked it out of the park. I gave 4 stars because there are a couple areas open for improvement but it's an 8.5 or 9/10. By the time you outgrew this crunch, you'd probably already have unfettered private gym access for one reason or another anyway.

They lied about the pool. I was told when i signed up in February that it was being renovated and it would be open in a few weeks. Still not open, no one can say when it will open. That’s not even the worst issue, the main problem with this place is on the weekends someone will consistently just not show up to open the gym at the time it’s supposed to open and there’s zero way to get in contact with someone to get someone on site to open it. Really messes with your routine when this happens consistently. The weekday morning staff has been great though, especially since the end of the summer.

I just recently started going to the crunch off of state street. At first I liked it, but lately I’ve been noticing a lot of things that are making me rethink my membership. For starters, there are a couple employees who are rude and they just sit there all day. I have worked in the service industry and the same type of setting so I know they can’t exactly go upstairs for a long period of time. But at least clean the treadmills that are right next to the desk!! While I was running last night I noticed that there was a TON of dust in the treadmill fans that are just blowing at you. In addition, the paper towels had been out in the locker room for 2 days. And the bathroom fixtures are rusty and some of them are green? Some of the equipment barely moves because it’s so old and worn down. Definitely needs an upgrade. However, there are two girls there who are super friendly and always ask you how your day is going and don’t look like they’re bored out of their minds.

I just rejoined and tonight was my second visit and I’m already regretting it. It’s filthy and the locker rooms are gross/unclean. The overhear music and bass was so loud that I could hear it over my headphones turned up all the way. I asked the employee at the front desk if they could turn it down a bit. He was rude and turned the music UP. I’m not a fan of hearing the n*word over and over again set to loud rap music while working out. Very disappointing. Don’t sign up at this location.

I personally like how kind & laid back all the employees are that I've talked to. It's not the cleanest place but I usually just stick to one area so I don't mind it, I suppose. I have been a regular at this gym for almost two years now.
The facilities are more than adequate for the price of the entry membership. With plenty of free-weights, machines, racks, and cardio equipment the options available to meet a variety of fitness goals are here. The downstairs space is a huge plus for people looking for CrossFit-like training. I've read other reviews about cleanliness issues, and while it's never perfect, a lot of posts confuse the Black Eagle location with the State Street location. Yes, that one is a straight-up mess.
Staff here are some of the friendliest around and are happy to help to the best of their ability. They are not aggressive about trying to sell you another product or membership, but if you do need something, there is almost always someone around to assist. Just about every time I go in I see personal trainers doing their thing with clients.
To improve, the owners of the Crunch locations should take a look at the wet spaces and locker rooms of their location. They need work.

Cleanliness of this gym gets a zero. The sauna is the most disgusting sauna I’ve even stepped foot in. My garbage can is cleaner than it. Mirrors weren’t wiped down and looked as if they’ve been spit on. Showers had mold on the ceiling. No soap in the dispensers. Shower handles were missing. Layout was nice after leaving the locker room. In my mind, first impression is a lasting impression. It felt dirty walking in and it felt dirty walking out of the place.

Predatory Business Practices
I have been a member of Crunch Fitness since it was Idaho Athletic Club about 5 years ago. I had a credit card on file for my monthly membership fee. Due to fraud charges and a change in my credit card number the card on file quit working. Rather than notify me by phone, email, or snail mail that my account was delinquent Crunch Fitness chose to go straight to turning my balance due over to collection agency. I have several businesses' accounts on my credit card and this is the only business that used such a predatory business practices. Yes. I was legitimately late and delinquent, but had they made the effort to call, email me, or send a letter I would have paid my balance in full and provided my new credit card number to continue my membership. Now they have lost my business and I will not recommend them to anyone based on their poor customer service and horrible management. Also, I now know there are much better gyms at much lower cost. I feel no remorse at dumping Crunch Fitness.

Sometimes I wonder why I still workout here... Do I subconsciously believe that I don't deserve good things? Am I scared of the confrontation of trying to cancel my membership? Am I too lazy to seek out something new?
All I know is that I have complained about this gym for 3 years so much so that everyone I know, knows how I feel. I mean... it's so awful that it's *almost* funny. Here are a few of the highlights:
1. Mold.
2. Bugs (not just one bug... bugs... with an "s"... lots of bugs) in the shower.
3. No air conditioning in the hottest parts of the summer.
4. Constantly broken machines.
5. The dirtiest floors I've ever seen. (And I used to be a bartender.)
6. A pool that has been "broken" for years.
7. The jankiest treadmills known to man.
8. That one time I asked for a machine tutorial, got roped into a personal trainer, and they gave me the one with a BROKEN ARM who could literally not demonstrate the machines or do any personal training.
9. Oh and also, that one time I asked to tan for 10 minutes and the front desk person who has ONE JOB forgot to push the activate button and I had to call the front desk from the tanning bed to remind him that I was in the tanning bed waiting for him to push the button.
10. Honestly, the most disgusting ladies bathroom's I've ever seen. Poop. Blood. You name it.
11. That one time the fire alarm went off and continued to go off for a ridiculous duration without any explanation from staff.
12. Why is it always so humid in the locker room?
13. On any given day, you might find that there's no soap or no paper towels in the bathroom. This is especially gross considering my previous comment. See list item number 10.
I know that I have nobody to blame but myself. I continue to go here hoping the pool with open up, hoping the treadmills will be upgraded, hoping that I won’t walk into a biohazard zone in the ladies room. Perhaps I am a hopeful fool… or just a lazy, self-loathing person who goes to the gym closest to her house and complains about it to anyone who will listen—including the Google masses.

Sink is falling out of the counter top, toilets leak and the showers are another level of gross. The employees sit around and talk to each other customers can stand at the counter and they never pay attention always on their phones. The trainers do not appear to have a clue what they are doing.
