Highly recommend looking elsewhere.

I was so hopeful that our local gym would be a great fit for my daughter, 5, in their rec program. It was not a good experience at all - the coaches lacked any direction or supervision, seemed out of ratio at times, multiple occasions other parents jumped in to correct safety issues. I completely understand that the more highly trained staff will be coaching team girls, as it should be. But I didn't expect a complete disregard for any skill development, doing the exact same rotation/skills week after week with absolutely NO involvement from the coaches to spot or even provide the most basic of feedback/correction/encouragement.

What's worse is when I sent a note to the owner to cancel our registration (without complaining on the above, simply stating it wasn't a great fit) we were told we missed the window to cancel and that I must be charged for another month and "if you want someone more skilled, you'll have to pay more for pre-team." What?? I was appalled at the defensiveness of the coaches and complete lack of customer service. I was also overcharged when we signed up (not given the pro-rate for missing a week when I was told I would be reduced) but I didn't make a big deal of that at the time.

Unprofessional, bad customer service, coaching staff at rec/lower levels is definitely not worth $100/month. Look elsewhere - we had great experience at Wings and Mountain West Gymnastics but the location was just too far away.

Both of my daughters have been on a competive gymnastic team at Gem State for the last 5 1/2 years. Tiffany is an amazing coach. It is very apparent at the gymnastics meets that Tiffany knows exactly what each girl needs to do to get the best score based on their skill level. Tiffany is a certified gymnastics judge and it is clear that she knows what she's doing with every single athlete and sets them up for success to get good scores at the meets. Gem State teams typically have the highest scores at all meets we have attended. We have been very happy Gem State and would highly recommend Gem State if you are planning on having your daughter or son compete in gymnastics. In my opinion, Gem State is the best gymnastics gym in the state.

Teah is such a great coach for the boys team! She is inclusive and I have no idea how she manages such a big group of boys but she does. My son has grown so much as a gymnast.

We have been at Gem State for 3 years now and my daughter loves it! They really try to make it feel like a family by holding holiday parties and an end of the year banquet. Tiffany and Paula are approachable along with all the other coaches and care about all the gymnasts.

My daughter has been with Gem State for about 8 years. I was also at Gem State as a kid. It runs in the family. They have an ever growing program with lots of people who care about my kid.

If you’re considering Gem State Gymnastics for your daughter, please keep looking. There are much better options out there, ones that will support her growth, her confidence, and her love for the sport.

Gem State has not produced a single college gymnast since the current owners, Paula and Tiffany, took over. That’s not an accident. By the time these young girls reach the higher levels here, they’re burned out and miserable. The joy and passion that once fueled them is gone, not because they’ve outgrown the sport, but because of the coaching culture at this gym.

My only regret is not pulling my daughter sooner. The signs were there: tears after practice, feeling like nothing she did was ever enough, and slowly losing confidence in herself because of the constant criticism. When a child wants to quit not because they’re done with the sport, but because of how the adults in charge treat them, that’s when you know it’s time to leave.

And yes, as expected, the gossip and trash talk started the moment we left. Sadly, that’s just part of the toxic environment there.

There’s a reason this gym barely has upper-level athletes anymore, and there’s a reason they haven’t sent anyone to college gymnastics in years. The truth speaks for itself.

Gymnastics is supposed to build strong, confident young women, not tear them down. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Find a gym that lifts your daughter up

Gem State has been an amazing place for my daughter! The coaches are knowledgeable, patient, and truly care about helping the kids grow in both skill and confidence. The gym is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is always positive and encouraging. My daughter looks forward to every practice and has made great progress since joining. I highly recommend Gem State Gymnastics to any parent looking for a top notch gymnastics program here in town !

We love gem state! We are going on our 3rd year and it is by far the best in the valley. The coaches know how to push the kids while staying positive and keeping the love of the sport. Also it doesn’t hurt that gem state kills it at all the meets!

The coaches are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and always encouraging. They are truly exceptional. They are genuinely invested in each athlete. They care about building both the physical skills and the confidence of every gymnast. I couldn’t be more grateful for the positive and supportive environment the coaches create.

My daughter has been with Gem State Gymnastics now 4.5 years. We started at level 1 and she’s now a level 7. Her teams and coaches have been very supportive. Our competitive level vs other gyms in the area has been well above average. I personally feel at all levels we are the team to beat!

We enrolled our son in the boys’ team at Gem State Gymnastics, but unfortunately, the experience has been disappointing. The customer service is unprofessional and seems indifferent, and they appear more focused on money than on the kids. We were asked to pay $250 officially plus an additional $250 in cash, which raises questions... Initially, they seemed professional and made a lot of promises, but they haven’t followed through. Sadly, we expected much better.

Our girls joined Gem State as toddlers and joined their competitive team for 4 years now. Gem State is the best gymnastics gym in the Treasure Valley for competitive gymnastics. The coaches truly care about the gymnasts and prepare them to compete in the Treasure Valley, State-wide and Nation-wide.

This place is a nightmare from staffing to accounting. This place only cares about how their “higher level skilled girls” are doing. Unqualified coaches -know training or safety measures in place. If you want your kids treated poorly this is the place for you. The atmosphere is cold with no hellos or good jobs. More like stink eyes and don’t come back but please give us all your money. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Don’t get me wrong we gave this gym a good solid six-month trial but I should have gone with my “gut” and left the first day. Listen to your kids they are right. My daughter was in tears by the end of it!

My daughter participated in competitive gymnastics at Gem State Gymnastics for just shy of a year. While I would love to say that this was an overwhelmingly positive experience for her and for me as her parent, it was unfortunately far from it. The first and most glaring issue is the profound lack of patience and kindness in some of the coaching staff. This is meant to be an opportunity for young kids to learn a new skill and hone their ability if they so choose, yet my daughter was met with name calling and ridicule from a grown adult on the teaching staff. Coach Ashley was super helpful and loving towards the children; Coach Mekayla should not be allowed to work with kids. The coach to gymnast ratio is so far off that the nearly 3 hour practices seem like a waste of time and effort on the participants part because they don’t have adequate supervision or assistance to actually learn what we are paying good money for them to learn. My 10 year old daughter informed me that staff “gave up” on her learning certain maneuvers. There are some staff I can tell care about what they do, but others should steer clear from working with young children. My daughter was pushed to tears and anxiety before practice because she was fearful grown women on the teaching staff would make fun of her again.

On another note, the administration of the gym is disappointing as well. My daughter was in a group photo shoot in downtown Boise in the freezing cold prior to the COVID 19 pandemic. Pictures were meant to be made available for all of the gymnasts to purchase. I have attempted to contact the gym on many occasions over the last year to no avail. I left many messages with front desk staff which were never returned. Even having direct contact with Tiffany, the owner, has proven to be fruitless as my emails have gone unanswered.

My expectations are for my young daughter to be taught, doing a sport she loves and has a passion for, in a supportive, enriching, and fun environment. Additionally, as a parent and cheerleader for my gymnast (and a paying customer) my expectations are to be treated as a valued customer and not ignored. I can’t say this gym has met any of those expectations. My daughter has found another gym in the Boise area and fell in love immediately. The staff there are kind and generous with their time and support. I strongly encourage any parents searching for a gym for their aspiring gymnast to seek anywhere but Gem State.

I put my 7 yr old daughter here for summer camp this summer and she loves it! It was overwhelming at the beginning for both of us, but the staff are so good and organized that they know how to keep them busy and active. She does so much all day form crafting to swimming. My daughter passes out at bedtime every. Every staff member’s are so friendly and helpful!

Under New Management and still going strong. I feel good about my little going here for preschool, day camp and gymnastics. When she went to Kindergarten registration she was ahead in all areas. I attribute her school readiness directly to Mrs. Melissa. She adores her teachers. Ms. Teah has been amazing. I watched the transition from owners who were adored in the community to new owners and it went as seamless as possible. The school is structured and definitely wears out a hyper active child. She loves her friends and looks forward to going. I watch teachers love on kids when they are having a tough day and discipline them in a positive manner when a kid needs it. If you are reading these reviews to decide whether or not to bring your little one here, in my opinion they are in great hands and warm hearts.

Mckela is such a great teacher. She always encourages us to do our best! I've been in the adult class for 6 months. I've been able to increase my flexibility and learn how to do a kartwheel. I can now almost do a front handspring! Thank you for providing an adult class!!!

My Fiance and I were members of the Adult Gymnastics Class for 5 months. We were excited to be a part of it, as gymnastics was something we had always wanted to explore. It quickly became apparent that the instructor wasn't up to the task. Every class followed the same formula of uninspired warm up, stretch, and "free time." We were never given drills to practice, and we were given little instruction. During this free time, the instructor would sit and chat with a few of the students while ignoring the rest of the class. Any requests for guidance were treated as rude interruptions into a private conversation, and the guidance that was given was vague. The teacher was incapable of demonstrating any of the techniques due to an adolescent injury, instead relying on an advanced student to show the rest of the class how things were done. There are talented instructors at Gem State Gymnastics, and when they participated in, or guest taught, the class we learned quite a bit. Unfortunately, none of their truly talented staff teach the adult gymnastics class.
I attempted to speak with management on multiple occasions about this issue but was given wrong or disconnected numbers. Every time I called their mainline, management was unable to take my calls and never responded to my messages. This repeated behavior made it clear to me that management doesn't care about customer complaints. I can't speak for the quality of the other classes at Gem State Gymnastics, but the Adult Gymnastics Class, in its current form, is a waste of time if you aren't willing or able to teach yourself using their gym equipment.

My 4 yr old and 2 yr old each have a morning class here and they get so much exercise they fall asleep by noon. Great teachers that keep the kids going the whole class time. Also you don't have to buy special clothes to be in the class like some negative dance class experiences I've had at other places.

A sad story....

Last year, in 2014, I signed up for Gem State relying on its long-standing reputation as a great coaching facility for youths to acquire the skills associated with gymnastics: strength, focus, agility, flexibility, etc. I went directly to the staff, stating my son had special needs. He was diagnosed with ADHD and mild ASD. I openly discussed his issues and wondered if they could help him. The coach I spoke with, Ryan, no longer works there; yet, he told me the best coach to put with my son and it worked wonderfully. Not only that, but, when she was gone, my son still did fine in the classes. He was "spazzy," I won't lie. But, I was never spoken to about unmanageable behavior.

This year, Sept 2015, we signed him up again, with no questions asked. I went 4 times (I could only see the last 15 min due to my work schedule. My mother takes him in the beginning.). I noticed a drastic change with the new coach / class. My son was constantly running everywhere, doing whatever he chose, all while being completely ignored by a bored-looking teenager.

I finally questioned the office / head coaching staff. They assured me they would look into it. The next week, he had a great assistant in his class who did not let him rule the show. She put him directly in time-out at the first sign of disrespect and only let him return when he calmed down.

The following week, the head-coach / mgr, Tammy, worked with my son's class. First she told me that someone would always need to be there to watch my son during class with the instructor. I assured her I could do that. The following day she called me and said they would no longer accept him because his size was bigger than the other kids in the class. The facility felt it was "too intimidating" to the other kids when he was frustrated and angry.

I am not one of "those" mothers who is in denial of my child's issues. I am very well aware of his strengths and weaknesses. But, to expell, yes expell, an 8 year old boy with special needs, when you were asked if you could help? He did no physical harm to anyone, except himself (he hyper-extended his knee on the 1st day of class in 2015. Coincidence?). I was pretty heart-broken and disappointed with the situation. I know there are a ton of parents out there like myself looking for a niche for kids who are active, physically healthy, but do not play team sports so great. Gem State is not the answer.

I am so glad that we found Gem State Gymnastics. We tried two other gyms before coming to here. After experiencing the negative atmosphere at the other two gyms I am incredibly grateful to have found Gem State. Every single one of the coaches that we have met at Gem State Gymnastics Academy has been very positive and kind to our daughter. Our daughter is in the cheerleading program here and has also taken gymnastics classes. Gem State puts a huge emphasis on making sure that the coaches make the classes a positive, self esteem building experience, and it shows. Our daughter's self esteem is rising, she knows that her coaches care about her and she is having an absolute blast there. The whole staff is down to earth and sincerely friendly. Their coaching is quality and they must be doing something right - because they sure win a lot of trophies. : ) Bottom line, they're great with kids here. I wouldn't go anywhere else and I think they're one of the best gyms in the nation. The only thing that's tough is that they are far away from where we live, but to me - they're worth the drive.
