It really hits when you see your kid achieve that first belt, being there to see every stripe, and new belt beyond. Every time you notice that subtle or not so subtle change in your kid. We have struggled with behavior with our son since he was 2yo, currently 7yo. He's a great kid but struggles to not act on his intrusive thoughts. Coach has been a great role model, for both our kids and us. He gives advise that transcends the mat but also comes home. My son loves martial arts so much that our daughter loves to go now too. We found Success Martial Arts through an offer to try Karate free for a month. I couldn’t be more happy we jumped on the opportunity. Coach Higgins does an amazing job, it goes beyond Karate, he is thoroughly dedicated to the success of our children beyond what happens in class. I'm 32 years old now, and many lessons that were taught to me at this martial arts school have stayed as I've grown up. I was a shy child being bullied in my elementary years and my parents enrolled me here to build my confidence, teach me self defense, and to help me push through my own limitations about myself. I enrolled my grandson in October 2020 to help with self-control and learning issues. We are pleased beyond words in his performance at school and home. Coach Brian expects the best and knows how to bring it out. We are ALL learning in the process. Parents get a sidebar. Life skills, self-defense and self-control are being ingrained in our boy. This place is amazing, not only in teaching self defense skills but also teaching the kids about how to deal with everyday situations. We have been part of the success martial art family for over 6 years. All 3 of our kids have enjoyed the program. We have watched our oldest go from a shy, timid, bullied kid in the first grade to now a jr black belt who has self confidence, stands up not only for himself but other kids too. One of our kids suffers from hyperactivity and has a really hard time focusing. The first 6-12 months of marital arts he struggled and pushed coach. Now he enjoys going. He focuses at school and we haven’t had emails or the hard parent teacher conferences that talk “your child can’t hold still or focus”. We credit coach and Martial arts. I want to mention that at success martial arts it’s not just “learning how to fight” it’s a lot more. He has school circle where he talks about hard things like bullying, predators and so much more. Success Martial Arts is a program that all kids, and their families can benefit greatly from. Our son (who is 5) participates in regular classes and often has the opportunity to 'bring a buddy' so they can try it out too. Coach Higgins also offers a number of FREE workshops to kids and parents, as a community service. I participated in the free 'personal protection clinic' and am very grateful for the information and honest training in dealing with self defense and especially the emotional component that goes along with stressful situations. There is also a clinic on '5 kinds of dangerous people' free to any kids in the community, to prepare them for realistic situations and give them the tools to avoid danger and also how to handle things when they aren't 'right'. Coach Higgins is tough, and demanding in a way that we need more of for our kids these days, and it's all tempered with a true sense of respect and love for the kids. As a parent I sometimes catch myself pondering something and a thought suddenly interjects.." I wonder if Ive taught my kid this lesson.". My children and I have been going to Success Martial Arts for over 7 years. The karate is really a secondary vehicle for Coach Higgins' lessons on self-control, focus, stranger danger, bully prevention, character development, leadership skills, health, etc., as well as self defense.
