How do you just close down a gym over night without any warning?! It was already hard enough to deal with broken machines for 6 months but this is just ridiculous.

Closed last week. 2 semis hauled away all the equipment. No warning or heads up to members or staff. All memberships have been sold to Charter Fitness. Look for the rest if the Chicago Area clubs to close soon.

Don't join this gym unless you want to deal with the hassle of canceling your membership for whatever reason. I canceled my membership back in 2015 because one of the locations closed, but Blast transferred my account to this location WITHOUT MY REQUEST. I had no intention of keeping the membership because there weren't any locations as convenient as the one that closed. How has my account been active when I canceled it nearly 4 years ago?!

Used to love this gym. Has went extremely down hill, I don't even see trainers anymore. They have 3 stairmaster machines that are always broken. It doesn't seem like people clean it anymore. A lot of the people who used to work there quit and I have heard multiple rumors that they are closing down. Sucks cause I used to love this gym..if only they would keep it maintained then I would keep my membership..

Have a membership for 2 years. Same machines are broken, same dirt and trash in the same spots. Itβs really a filthy place. Only plus is you donβt have to wait for equipment.

Employees could care less about being these, everything is dirty, and nothing gets refilled. There has been a locker with the same pair of gloves in them since I signed up a year ago not joking at all.

This is my first google
review for anything, so buckle up- I had a membership at this gym about a year ago, so I know this review is late, but better late than never. First of all, I want to preface this by saying I was really excited about this membership at first. Something that I was particularly looking forward to was the area in the back- the βwomenβs onlyβ portion because it was a lot less crowded. I ended up feeling a bit cheated when I had to upgrade to a special kind of membership to have WiFi access, but oh well, sales gimmicks, what are you going to do? I purchased the membership with WiFi access for 4 months on the spot that day, again, excited to have a membership at a gym with nice equipment. The first couple of days I tried working out in that back room, but as it conveniently worked out, there was absolutely no WiFi getting through back there, so I started working out in the main area of the gym so I could stream music while I worked out. I went every day, no exceptions, for about a week, sometimes twice a day. I was feeling good about myself and motivated. I could already feel myself putting on more muscle, and having a lot more energy. Then I saw that they did a free fitness evaluation. I knew mine wasnβt going to be perfect, hence why I had a membership, but I just wanted to get a sense of where I was at, and advice on where/ what to focus on during my workouts. So, I went ahead and had the evaluation, he was on his phone half of the time and not paying attention. After the evaluation, this guy told me that if I didnβt pay MORE money (hundreds of dollars weekly or every couple of weeks) for one of *their* trainers, I wouldnβt ever achieve my goals. He told told me I didnβt have what it took to persevere. Honestly, it was super discouraging and gross. Here I was, doing my best, putting in a ton of effort, already making progress on my goals, and here was this person trying to make a buck off of me by playing on my vulnerabilities. What a truly abhorrent thing to do. Oh, right, and I asked him for advice on where he would start if he were me, and he refused to give me any. This experience made me feel so awful that I didnβt ever go back, I was too upset. Maybe Iβm just crazy, but arenβt gym employees supposed to make you feel welcome and encouraged? The ONLY reason I am not giving this place a 1/5 stars is because there was a nice man at the front desk who would always greet me by name and was always supportive and kind. Aside from him, the rest of the staff can go f*** off. Pardon my French. Iβm never referring anyone to this gym, it was a waste of money, and my time. Donβt bother contacting me about this review, Iβm not going to take it down, if the fact Iβm posting it a year or more later is any indication.

Good place to start working out. Pretty good amount of equipment. Slow enough that you won't have to wait long for a bench or machine. Pricing isn't bad. Hours aren't the greatest. Employees helpful but unenthused.

I work out here at least every other day. I enjoy the fact that I can work out just off the ladies locker room. However, the place is getting a bit runned down. The ladies bathroom alone needs a good cleaning, the sanitary receptacle is always full and gross, the walls are very dirty down closest to the floor, also the wall just under the hand dryers is always dirty, the floors are mostly dirty from the bathroom thru the locker room to the workout area. I do like having an inexpensive place to workout but I do think it should be clean.

Blast is a decent, basic gym for your regular work outs. They have a reasonable selection of equipment, and have free weights, though sometimes you can not find the free weights your looking for, for lack of abundance. Also I have trouble occasionally finding resistance bands that I prefer over weights for my back therapy, they are a basic piece of equipment.
At one time, they would not allow members that weren't paying for PERSONAL TRAINERS to USE CERTAIN equipment! And they could always be cleaner, since they've opened several years ago.
I have heard that they are once again under new management, so we will see if that makes a difference.

I always come with my mom here, and leave with good results every time. There is a girls room available for those who feel more comfortable excercising in there just like me. Also, there are many free classes that you can take, for instance, me and my mom love taking Zumba classes. And you can even bring in a free guest which is what my mom does with me all the time. Love this place, and totally rate it a 10/10!

All but one staff member who continuously harasses, and bothers active members. Bias, unfair, and unjust. Isn't consistent with his decision. Watched it right In front of me as it unfolded. The same man who was "Monitoring" or working there, did not kick out two guys who were repeatedly dropping weight and using chalk. Next hour or so, couple of kids walk in. Attempt to do the same (Less mess, and weren't aggressively dropping weight) get kicked out and asked to leave. Where is the fairness in that exactly? Why was it that only SPECIFIC members were asked to leave, while everyone else can stay. Just last week, (The last time I visited this gym). A man brought his bag of chalk, just lying there on the floor. The worker who's name will not be mentioned here, walked past it dozens of times without saying a word to the man using it, or why it was there in the first place. I cancelled my membership all together, and suggested friends of mine as well to leave. I wouldn't be surprised if those same kids who were kicked out, decided to leave too.
On another note, needs more machines and remove some of the "Rules". This isn't a day care center. This isn't a retirement home. If you can't drop weight, bring chalk, grunt, run, or do anything else related. This gym isn't for you, and it isn't for me.

Have been a member of Blast for almost 4 years and it has had its ups and downs but the last six months it has been on the rise. The combination of a new morning team M-F has made all the difference to the facility. It is clean all the time now and the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and welcomes you when you walk in the door by name.

Came here Monday, April 17th at 5:30am. No one is working and people have been sitting in the parking lot for 20 minutes waiting for employees. This happens often. Either let everyone know you won't be open or hire people who can be there in time to open. You are lucky you are cheap.

Price is great! Machines are good! I love that they have fans! Kids love going to the Kid's Club while I work out. We have a brady bunch family so that alone is amazing there is no restriction on family memberships (also great deals for memberships)! Can't get any better than that!

I haven't been a member long and I go at 5am so maybe I am not there to experience what all these people are complaining about, but I really like this gym. It is clean, it's not too busy and the lady working in the morning is really nice and attentive but not all up in your business. 150% better than my experience at LA Fitness where they chase you around and beg you to sign up for $200/monthly personal training while you're trying to work out.

Very dirty! Group workout room always has chunks of hair and bugs. It's like no one cares to sweep at the end of the day. I only return because it's cheap..
Update: If I could give this gym a zero I would. "Instructors" for group classes are a no show many times and employees don't bother to tell us who are waiting for class to start. We have to go to the front desk and ask 5-10 minutes after waiting and all they say "oh sorry." Very unprofessional. I advise EVERYONE to not waste money on this dump! Most machine area "out of service" anyways..

This location needs some T & C, Employees doesn't care about the gym and they close early on Saturdays and Sundays. Their equipment is very old and most of the machines are broken. please fix this location before it goes out of business. as blast fitness member i would like to see this gym renovated like other blast fitness around Chicago.
