Body & Brain Yoga Tai Chi is a yoga studio in Skokie offering holistic wellness classes consisting of yoga, tai chi, meditation, and breath work based on 5000-year old Korean traditions. We offer a variety of yoga classes for beginners and more advanced classes to energize and heal the mind, body, and spirit.

Qigong and Tai chi class was excellent. Dropped in for the first time this evening and Ken was a wonderful teacher who made the class fun and approachable for someone with little to no experience (such as myself) or seasoned veterans that had clearly been to the class before. Positive and laid back feeling. Left feeling more grounded and less stressed. Recommend 10/10

Since my medical doctor has referred me to take this class for my body condition
due to the injury, I have been coming everyday for 1 hour 30 minutes for each group session to benefit my body in many ways by stretching, warming up, balancing, body tapping, core exercise, detoxing, wooden pillow, relaxing, de-stress relief mentally, and reenergizing. I think Master Ken who instructs us and guides us with a special attention is the most great teacher. I'd really appreciate every classes.

I attended my first-ever tai chi class with Ken, and it was an incredible experience! Ken was a fantastic instructor—patient, knowledgeable, and made the movements easy to follow, even for a complete beginner like me. The class had the perfect mix of relaxation and gentle exercise, leaving me feeling refreshed and centered. To top it all off, Ken served amazing tea at the end, which made the experience even more special. I will be be back and highly recommend this class to anyone looking to try tai chi or deepen their practice!

I really enjoyed my class here. I had never done Tai Chi or Qigong before and wasn't sure what to expect. The class, which was 90 minutes took me through several movements meant to heat up my core and allow me to practice mindfulness and balance (both mentally and physically). After the course, the instructor (Ken) had a delicious tea blend he shared with me while we spoke about the class. I can see why folks do this, I felt so relaxed and at ease after taking the course! I will definitely be back.

I attended a Qi Gong and Tai Chi class with Ken this morning and would absolutely reccomend it and look forward to returning for more classes. I felt at ease and welcome upon entering into the space. It’s as though my car drives me to class as opposed to me driving my car there. B&B Yoga (more holistic fitness than yoga) is where I’m supposed to be, and somehow my car knows it! Ha. There’s no resistance on my part. When I arrive, my energy transforms, and I am in a good place with myself. Less than 5 minutes into a class, I am further changed. I realize I live mostly from my head, but when I move my body in the ways I’m instructed to do so in the classes, the switch from brain to body happens. I’m relaxed and energized. My emotions are balanced. It’s a release and a relief. My breathing changes on its own. The stretches feel so good! Also, it’s not repetitive or boring because there are a variety of class types. I’ve been a member for years.

I attended a taichi/Qigong class and I felt so much better, both mentally and physically. I didn’t think I would break a sweat but I did. I learned so much in a 75 minute class from master Ken and enjoyed his witty humor. At the end of the class, he served us his homemade tea which was quite refreshing!

Going to Skokie Body and Brain is a must for me. All the exercises that I do from Qigong, taichi to meditation are beneficial for my well being. Qigong, taichi and energy vibration classes are my favorites. Energy vibration is like a dance class! Master Ken is very knowledgeable especially with Qigong and taichi. I love watching his moves and he sings well too! He's very welcoming as well as the rest of the class. We have formed a little community too! I am much stronger and flexible now! I had a bit of tendon tearing in my left shoulder before. The physical therapy that I had made it 80% fine but now it feels a lot better than that! Thanks, master Ken!

Post Covid-19 I enjoyed both the outside and indoor classes. a principle i didn't find mentioned has been criticle to my growth. it is love my pain. that's right. LOVE my pain. what you resist persissts. you must relax, let go breathe deeply and, above all, smiled. smiling releases happy endorphins. so, whenever you feel pain, remember to do those things.
I especially enjoy Ken Hong's special classes powerup, which is overall strengthening, and the tai chi sword 🗡️ class. For indoor classes they have an air filter and x's to mark the spot where members can exercise

I have been a member of Body and Brain for a little over one year and the experience keeps getting better and better.
I joined to learn a new form of physical activity.It has turned out to be so much more.

I’m updating my original review that was pre-covid. I seriously believe that Body and Brain has saved me throughout this pandemic. As a senior, sheltering at home, this has allowed me to exercise and meditate on a daily basis. I’ve been going to one or two classes a day. I have friends who have put on weight during the pandemic, but I have lost weight and gain strength through these classes. The human connection with the instructors and the other folks in the zoom classes is heartwarming and encouraging. The focus not only on body (flexibility, strength, etc) is as important as the sense of calm and positivity I gain every day. Honestly, I think everyone would have something to gain attending their classes. BTW, now they are beginning to resume some limited classes in person and outdoors as well, but they are also continuing online.

MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Starting to go to classes a few months ago has been truly a life changer for me. My instructor Ken has been such an inspiration for me. As a senior with two knee replacements it is critical that I exercise and expand my mobility. The tai chi and yoga classes have been perfect for me. I am moving with more joy and peace and less pain. Being in class makes me feel alive. I love the diversity among the students. Whatever your age come and try it. Call Diane and she will welcome you into this marvelous community.

The Teacher, Chris, is absolutely amazing. He felt the energy of the room and tailored the class perfectly to help students heal, replenish and restore their bodies and brains. I left feeling centered, grounded and more in tune with the synchronicity of my body and mind than I think I ever have before . All thanks to Christopher’s amazing class and his ability to to see beyond the mask and walls of his students and instead speak directly to the true essence of each student. I can’t say enough about this studio and Chris and can not wait for my next class!

Great for yoga, so different, best exercise! I bought 2 bellybutton healing sticks 😍 & a wooden pillow...They push for energy healing classes..I'd rather get a massage or do Kingspa..I answered "no" When instructor asked me after a class "are U tired? sad? got headache? cant sleep? I see your ancestors" yikes😅..your yoga package expires in 6months. Dont buy too many..skip Friday weird dancing... My friends did warn me..but I had to experience for myself~ 4stars for changing my life..I do their tapping methods at home..it maybe just me but many others will agree ~

Body and Brain Yoga at the Skokie site has been one of the most healing, revealing, and therapeutic things that I have ever experienced during this life time. It has provided a sense of balance in my daily life with the mind, body and soul aspects. I have learned how to deal with life circumstances with more focus, and a reality check of what I am about, and what I want to become. Master Julia and Master Ken have been my inspiration for furthering my training with Master Kim, who is the ultimate in imparting her expertise for students. Because of all of those individuals, I feel that I have become a different person. I can face challenges without continued stress and frustration. My breathing and movements are more coordinated. This has been the highlight of my life, as an older person. There are not enough superlatives to describe the benefit of this activity/training in my life. I joined Skokie body brain yoga in January 2015. my life has changed for the better in many ways physically, emotionally, spiritually, creatively and it doesnt stop there. Master Julia and Master Ken greet me every day with a smile and encourage me to be the best I can be to myself. I have gained new friendships with people on a similar paths and AM forever grateful to be afforded the opportunity to learn and develop the growing skills . I've been attending for a few weeks and have loved every moment. I think the key understanding for me is that this is a life style shift vs just an exercise class. After attending a few of the classes, I notice that my focus is better, I have an increased flow of energy and I'm strengthening my body, mind and spirit. I feel more balanced. I had a great experience here. I attended a Tai-Chi class taught by Ken, who is a wonderful instructor and a wonderful person. He has a very kind and warm essence and seems very balanced in his Tai-Chi practice, making him an excellent person to learn this art form from. Afterwards, we shared tea with Julia and shared our experiences. This was a nice meditation after the practice. I also attended a special Tai-Chi class taught by Scott @8:00 PM, another great experience. We learned basic forms of Qi Gong used for healing and strengthening the internal organs of the body using hands and also wooden sticks. I loved it. I now feel more relaxed, more connected in brain & body, and also more powerful in my own intention and willpower. Thank you!

It's been 5 months since I committed to Body & Brain - Skokie & I continue to be excited to come to class. The practice has changed my life physically & emotionally. I am amazed at my own personal transformation. I am more in-tuned with my well-being than I have ever have in my life. Who knew that breathing, really breathing, and just listening to your body and releasing stagnant energy that I accumulate daily is beneficial. And what about body tapping, the stretching, and the energy dance? They have become a part of me that I look forward to practicing. I even did Tai-Chi for the first time in my life - truly calming. I've been coming to Dahn Yoga classes for about 6 years. First it was Glenview, then Northbrook and now it's Skokie center. I love it. Classes are small, with personal touch.
Julia and Ken are dedicated, caring and motivating masters.
After all these years of consistent training my body became unbelievably flexible. Ability to focus, calm down, slow down in every day life improved dramatically.

I met Master Julia at the "Mind, Body, Spirit Expo" and I was immediately drawn to her caring, warm, and gentle spirit. After my intro session with Master Julia, I decided to sign up as a regular member (and I am so thankful that I did). My doctor suggested that I take up yoga or meditation. I always found both to be boring. But when I saw Body & Brain Skokie open, I thought I would give them a try. The classes are never boring and the other members are great. Julia is a great leader. She motivates without being pushy. Tesla was trying to broadcast electricity, Master Julia has done it. The classes are full of energy and fun, Master Julia's enthusiasm is infectious (in a good way) and I find myself jumping, stretching and tapping with gusto. I have more energy and better focus.

Master Ken has a different energy, also very good, calm and very informative. His classes are intensive without being tense, I feel like can comfortably do things to my limit. And that limit is changing, the bar is a little higher every class.

The two compliment each other very well and I know that whoever is teaching, I will have a good class.

This is the place I go to 5 days a week to help heal my body. I had years of tightness that I'm working to eliminate, and I can see the door opening as I come on an almost daily basis. Master Julie and Master Ken are amazing in the way they work and take care of all their members, including myself. This place feels like family.
