We are the continuation of taiji (tai chi) and qigong classes that Dr. Yang Yang started in 1996. Classes are led by Scott Grubisich, co-author with Dr. Yang of the renowned book "Taijiquan: The Art of Nurturing, The Science of Power."

I've greatly enjoyed the Taiji beginning class at CUTQ. One of the things that is great about it is that it's done slowly enough, with lots of repetition, so that it becomes possible to learn it. Both Scott (the main teacher) and Chris (who also helps with the teaching) are patient and encouraging, which really helps. The other students range in skill, with some attending the beginning class multiple times. Overall, an excellent way to learn Taiji.

This class is wonderful! Taiji classes I have taken before were intimidating and form-focused only. This class is fully accessible physically and mentally, making profound information easy to understand. I am someone in the middle of my life who could have said, “Now is not the time for Taiji; I’m too busy in this season of life.” But it was precisely what I needed: a practice that I need for life and a therapy that I need right now. If you are going through spiritual awakening or deconstructing from something—this class could be perfect for you!

Scott explains things very clearly and provides many experiences for the students to learn and grow through experience. There is an exquisite balance between movement, standing meditation, and stillness. I will continue with subsequent classes!

Having practiced in several meditation traditions for almost 20 years, I can say it is rare to find a teacher as clear and deep as Scott. His enthusiasm for the practice is evident and contagious.

If you are looking for a well rounded approach to taijiquan that emphasizes all sides of Taijiquan then I would look no further! Mr. Grubisich is an excellent teacher who provides the perfect balance of verbal communication and physical demonstration, with plenty of time for learning and development. I especially appreciate that he focuses on the foundational aspects of Taijiquan. I feel so lucky to be a part of this community.

Master teacher. Deep qigong practice and the real deal in Chen Taiji study. And very welcoming. Highly recommended.

If you are interested in starting a Taiji practice, consider taking classes with CUTQ. You will develop flexibility and balance, meet great people, and go home refreshed and relaxed. I highly recommend the beginning class.

A geat class and a great teacher! Scott's non-judgmental attitude, humility, and sense of humor create a positive environment for practicing and learning. I wish he could offer his introductory class year round.

This is an awesome resource for the CU area. I wanted to try Taiji and signed up for the beginning class in early 2018. I've been back again several times for the advanced class and my partner just started the beginning class. This is a life-changing, lifelong practice that I'm glad I was able to start here in Champaign.
