Now called Shorewood fitness. Not a charter fitness anymore. New owner has cleaned the place up, painted, re-upholstered benches. Has a more friendly policy to people doing hard workouts, without making it unfriendly for regular mom and pop gym goers. Thr former personal training only section is now a stretching and crossfit area for everyone. The staff who were rude to me when it was charter no longer work there.

Great small gym! Plenty of equipment and you can go in and workout without having 1,000 eyeballs watching you.

Sunday December 17th it’s now 7:20am and no one is here to open the gym. Had this problem at Tinley location before too. Disappointing.

Clean place to work out. I have been going for a year, price is reasonable. Locker room is very clean.

I got in on a promo that waived the join fee and for the year is only $160. You get what you pay for. It's no frills but has what I need. Weights, natulus machines and cardio machines. Can't beat the price. If Aldi owned a gym, this would be it. But what are you there for anyway? If gym time is social time then you will probably want a someplace else. If you are a germiphobe, buy home equipment, all gyms have cooties.

First, I'd like to start off by saying that the one photo is misleading as this facility is not as big or as nice as the photo shows. Although I understand you get what you pay for at a gym like this, I feel like it's not a high expectation for the equipment to be functional or repaired. Many of the ellipticals are missing the small "rack" to place a book or your phone if you're watching something on it, one elliptical and the glute machine have been broke for weeks, and the leg press machine in the free weights area seems a bit dangerous as the rubber part where you adjust the seat is ripped and worn out. Not to mention that if you workout in the morning, be prepared to waste time re-racking weights left over from the night before. Do the staff not review the floor before leaving? I get that it's the customers' responsibility to re-rack their own weights, but shouldn't the staff be held accountable for making sure the gym is ready for the morning? Not to mention the fact that the staff is less than helpful. One of the trainers was leaning against a machine, just resting there for a solid 20 as he was "training" his clients. When asked if he was using said machine, he just looked at me, no apology, no "go ahead", but just a look like I was causing him an inconvenience. There was also a time where I struggled using a machine (I couldn't figure out how to use it as it wasn't one like I've used before) and instead of a staff member (who was looking around and just talking to somebody about five feet away from me, not training) showing me how to use it, a gym goer actually stopped doing what he was doing and volunteered to show me what to do. To me, it shows the staff actually lacks interest in helping others and won't take the time to assist in something unless they're getting paid for it. I honestly can't wait for my membership to be up so I can switch to Inwood or a real gym. I've been a member of charter fitness before so that's why I signed up, but this location is by far the worst I've been to.

I have been going to this facility for a year and a half now and the facilities are extremely generous for $10 a month. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and really emphasize that their passion is helping people achieve their goals. The older reviews, based on my experiences, are outdated and are currently outright wrong. Understand that this is a budget gym, so don't expect a pool or sauna, but if you want a quality workout for an affordable rate, charter in Shorewood can't be beat.

I have been going here off and on for about 13 years. The staff has always been friendly, keep the place clean, and leave you alone unless you ask for something. I'm not sure what all of these other reviews are complaining about...

This small gym is usually enough to get a decent workout in. However, I had a bad experience this morning where I arrived expecting to work out, but found the gym not open an hour after posted opening hours, with no reason for closure posted. When I arrived many others were also waiting in the parking lot expecting someone to arrive and open up. This was a huge waste of my time and ruined my scheduled workout. I'm now considering finding a new gym with consistency I can rely on to fit my daily routine.

Looking for a new fitness option I was put off on a $50 joining fee plus annual cleaning fees. If you look on their site these charges are not obvious. It's not the amount, it's the dishonest advertising. Just charge $15 a month with no bullshit.

for low monthly fee, its the biggest bang for my buck. They even have clean, folded towels at every workout areas. use 'em to clean up the equipment after use, or I can use the clean towels for myself. the place is clean, the bathroom is clean. and free movie while running on the treadmill. makes my running workout goes fast.
