Good selection of equipment and machines. I like that there are a lot of mirrors so you don't have to fight for space. There are both free weights and machines (cables and stationary). Note: there are no designated deadlift platforms, but you can put a barbell near the squat rack.
My complaints are that some of the machines' handles are sticky. The water fountains could also be upgraded to have the water bottle refill stations. In addition the [mens] locker room is not the cleanest place.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. Horrible service. Rude employees. Not clean. And when you try to cancel your membership, your account will continue to be charged for months and you have to jump through continuous hoops to get your money back. It’s infuriating. Tom, the manager is useless. Corporate is also inept. Do not come here. Consider yourself warned.

A great place with a great price! The staff is accommodating, nice, and very knowledgeable. When a small billing issue came up, they were very quick to fix it. Overall, I have very much enjoyed my experience with Charter Fitness and will be returning there when I am in the area again. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to start a fitness routine!

Charter is a great little gym. Has everything you need and a fraction of the cost of the bigger gyms. Thrilled this place went 24 hours as well as sometimes I have to get up super early for work and like to workout before I start my day. When I first started getting back into working out I trained with Laura. She is amazing! An amateur bodybuilder who really knows her stuff. Much higher caliber trainer than you would expect from a small gym like this.

It's a good gym, especially when you consider what you're paying each month. The staff is very helpful and attentive. I've had nothing but good interactions with them, especially Omar who is always at the front desk when I arrive. Seems like they've added some nice perks with the new management change too.

My main Charter Fitness is in Carol Stream which is newer, bigger and updated so I am basing my review on what I know from this comparison.

This location is very small and cramped. It has a dropped ceiling, carpet and feels claustrophobic. On the plus side, I rarely sweat very much due to the close quarters/AC combo. The machines are as close together as houses in California and a little run-down or in need of some repair or tune-up. The people are friendly which is a huge plus! It's ok here, but I'm glad that my home gym is the one in Carol Stream.

Very cold and never have towels available. Cold air coming out of vents in mens bathroom. 25F outside and 45F inside with fans on high to give you a cold draft as you workout in wet sweaty clothes. Management has been made aware of cold issue several weeks ago and have done nothing about it. To clarify the mens bathroom is as cold as it is outside, but the rest of the facility is only 20 degrees warmer. Place is a joke. cancelling ASAP.

Charter Fitness in general provides exceptionally bad customer service through the processes the company has in place. I signed a contract and selected to not auto renew but it turns out my contract was renewed automatically anyways. When I called to cancel, they told me I had to come in or "Write a certified letter" or something. Just cancel the damn account. The "security" reasons doesn't fly anymore, everyone knows you're just trying to nickel and dime people. When I called it's obvious these issues come up all the time because the people I talked to had canned responses. It truly is not surprising this company is doing bad financially. F-, would not recommend.

I want to let anyone who is looking for a gym in Vernon hills or Mundelein- IL. CHARTER FITTNESS is NOT the one you want to go with.
I will talk of my own experience,
-Customer service - zero
-Misinforming customers on their products to get money from you
- Quick to threaten you, they will send you to collections over $10 after account was cancelled with ABC financial on march 30th, 2017.
- still charge your account after cancellation was received and confirmation was sent to you.
They are not a genuine company that want people to live a healthy life style but are in the community to steal from us. Be careful. Say No to charter fitness

Quitting membership with Charter Fitness is a nightmare. I've been trying to cancel it for 3 weeks and still I can't. Meanwhile they keep charging me and collect late fees. Funny, but they charged me an annual fee as well. The general manager Victor is rather rude than helpful. I am about to go there for third time trying to quit it. Totally "Comcast" experience, "Walmart" service. I can't believe cancelling could be so hard and why?!

This place sucks! Yes, they tell you to join on a month to month and it is cheap, but then when you try to cancel they start charging all kinds of "maintenance" fees. They use a 3rd party biller and when you contact them they tell you that you have to go to the club to resolve any issues. Then you call the club and they give you the run around saying that you cannot cancel the day you go in to cancel that then you have to wait an additional 30 days and then they can charge any fees they want during that 30 days - it is rip off! Also the club is dirty - the machines are not cleaned and the equipment is filthy.... The locker room is disgusting and a lot of the lockers are broken....

I have been a member for 3 years at charterfitness in Parkridge, never really had an issue until it went under new management. I had gone into the gym and while changing noticed that I started to have an allergic reaction and I was getting hives. I went to the front desk to ask if they had any antihistamines I was having a severe allergic reaction...where the manager (some female-dont know her name) showed little if any concern HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PEOPLE SKILLS. But the personal trainer there w/ australian accent? (whom is blonde and in fab shape and really nice) showed concern and asked me if I was ok. I then ran to the gas station to purchase antihistamines, felt woozy but started to feel better. So I returned to the gym and checked in, that same manager informed me that they have no pic on file and she wanted to take one right now. I was like I just had an allergic reaction Im in a huge hurry to get my workout in, I've been a member for several years...I told her I'd take the picture when I left. Soo I changed into my workout gear and went to the stretching area. She tracked me down at the stretching area and insisted we take the pic then and there when I had JUST told her "I will do it when I leave." What part of that dont you understand? This is where you honor your members with respect and courtesy especially ones whom have been there for years. The way she handled it showed clear lack of experience working with people. She was not friendly and is noone I want to see in the morning everyday before I work out. Thats just a bad way to start the morning period. I then talked to the owner whom tried to explain why they need to take pictures--and I completely understand why!! I know its for security reasons I am aware. However when a member-longstanding-is telling you I will take it when I leave you dont persist you do as they wish because they are paying to go to your gym and keeping you in business! If you dont you lose the business, just like they did today. I am canceling and going somewhere where the managers smile and greet you and show a little respect and care to their members.
