Chicago Movement Gym has far exceeded I was looking for in a training routine. I've never been much into lifting weights for building. I have always interested in body weight exercises, and with traveling so much I always look for ways to train no matter where I am.

The classes are fun and Dr. Khong is extremely skilled in the Ido Portal method he teaches. Just when I am getting comfortable with a particular movement, he ads one more degree of intensity that always moves me forward in both strength and flexibility faster than I though was possible.

I appreciate the small class size and the infectious positivity of the space.

With 15+ years in the fitness industry — coaching and learning at some of the world’s top facilities — I’ve seen a lot. So believe me when I say: Chicago Movement Gym is a rare find in a sea of cookie-cutter fitness studios.

Dr. Khong isn’t just another coach tossing around buzzwords. He’s a true professional who lives what he teaches. He explains complex ideas with ease, creates a space where everyone feels welcome, and carries himself with quiet confidence that comes from years of real experience.

The programming here is built around what matters most: longevity, joint health, real-world mobility, and strength that actually transfers beyond the gym. It’s thoughtful, purposeful training — the kind most people don’t realize they need until their body tells them otherwise.

This gym isn’t about chasing your next PR at the expense of your joints. It’s about building something that lasts.

I’ve watched so many people burn out chasing intensity. This place? It teaches you how to move well for life.

Try one class. You won’t leave thinking, “just another workout.”
You’ll leave thinking, “I needed that.”

Khong is an excellent teacher! Learning movement has strengthened my joints and made me more confident to continue my martial arts and snowboarding journey.

Classes are great. I have learned so much about how my body works and how far I can push my own limits.

Chicago Movement Gym is hands-down one of the coolest spots in River North. Did a $35 drop-in for the movement class—mix of mobility, strength, and play—and left feelin’ amazing. The coaches really know their stuff and vibe with you, no ego. Super chill crowd, clean space, and just an all-around solid gym. Highly recommend if you’re bored of the usual gym grind!

Mind-opening experiences. I was so happy to find out Dr. Khong was a student of Roye who I have been following for a long time for Ido Movement Method. Khong is very flexible to let me and my wife drop in 3 of his classes while we're visiting Chicago for the first time. His teaching was dedicated and strategic which made me believe more in my choice of training. His currently studio is also very cool with a climbing wall, so you know he offers more activities than usual private gyms. Definitely a great place to check if you seek non-traditional ways of training your body movements.

I have seen Dr Khong for many years for ART and other injury treatment and he’s amazing. I work full time and attend law school in the evenings- I sit a lot of the day. I’ve joined Chicago Movement Gym and in just two months I can already tell my strength and mobility are improving. I’m able to lift and move heavier things in real life much easier. For example, I normally need someone to help me lift my air conditioner in and out of the window. Not anymore! Highly recommend this studio for anyone looking to build functional strength. Health is wealth, trust the process!

The Chicago movement Gym is definitely the real deal! I began my journey here as a mover in the 6 week challenge. Coach Khong was very supportive and fostered a culture that promotes growth and progress. My favorite thing is the amount of an attention dedicated to each mover individually. If you're looking to progress yourself in a unconventional way apart from weights, CMG may definitely be the way to go!

I spent 5 days at the Chicago Movement Gym for a MovNat certification and loved every minute of it. The space is optimized for a variety of movement practices through integrated installations (climbing wall, monkey bars, etc.) and stand-alone equipment (jump boxes, sandbags, slackline, etc.). Khong is a wealth of knowledge in anything having to do with movement, injury prevention and recovery, and overall well-being and is simply awesome to be around. Lauren at the front desk is a joy, too. If I lived in Chicago, I'd be here on a regular basis for sure!

Moving at the Chicago Movement Gym has been such an amazing experience and adventure. I have been involved in quite a lot of different sports throughout my life, but I can genuinely say that I have never built strength that fast. More importantly, the extra strength I gained is so functional that I feel energized throughout my day as a tennis coach and overall human being. Dr. Khong has such a wide pool of knowledge regarding nutrition, movement, chiropractic, etc. This truly shows in the way he sets up my movement practices as it is well thought through and focuses on building strength in the most effective way while also preventing injuries. When I go to CMG, I know I am being guided to become the best mover I can be and I also just have a lot of fun!

What a unique, fun and rewarding gym experience! But don’t be fooled, it starts off frustrating if you’re as movement illiterate as I was when I started :) Dr Khong meets you at the level you’re at and shows you how to make progress, and already at week 2 moves were becoming easier. I didn’t realize how much I needed this until I started. My regular routine is weight lifting, and this movement routine has only strengthened that. I started with the 6 weeks and have already added another 6 weeks to my membership. Highly recommend!

If you’re looking to get strong, flexible and stable outside of a typical box gym, CMG is the place for you.

After tweaking my lower back last year, I spent more than 9 months going to multiple physical therapists. While I made small improvements, I was stuck in a cycle of healing and re-injuring myself, ultimately worsening my condition - I felt so fragile and helpless. When I saw Dr Khong as a PT in May 2022, he offered a 4 week free trial to CMG, and within 10 days, I knew it was right for me.

Dr Khong teaches the Ido Portal movement theory, which seems strange at first, but the benefits come quickly. The movements and exercises taught by the Ido Portal method transfer to strength and in your daily movements. I came to CMG feeling weak, fragile and inflexible. After just a few weeks, I’m already much stronger, more flexible, and my range of movement is steadily improving - I can return to moving freely without constant fear of injury. It’s only up from here!

Chicago Movement Gym is a phenomenal community of teachers and members seeking to explore health through movement. Dr. Khong authentically embodies the philosophy of "practicing what you preach" and sets the tone with high quality teaching and engagement. The vibe is fun and loose, but also challenging in a good way. Working with Chicago Movement Gym has really enhanced my mind and body balance through strength, balance, flexibility, and constant learning. I highly recommend Chicago Movement Gym to any and all looking to explore the many benefits of movement!

Any mind-body regimen that explores the true potential of the human instrument in a playful, curious, and challenging way is a welcome find. My introduction to CMG was positive and, at times, humbling. The community that Dr. Khong seeks to establish is welcoming, motivated, and fueled by a desire to improve in strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and agility. Like the work of Ido Portal or David Zambrano, there is an appreciation for grounded, primal movement that activates and energizes the entire body. Check out this school if you want to experience something more in a workout.

I have been struggling with joint injuries for years and it has limited my ability to workout the way I'd like to. Since meeting Dr. Khong and joining the Chicago Movement community, I have been able to workout the way I want to while strengthening muscles to help prevent injuries. I can now perform exercises that used to create problems for my body, but I have also discovered a new and exciting way to exercise that pays dividends and generates results.
