The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and truly care about helping students improve—whether you're a beginner or an experienced fighter. They break down techniques clearly and provide personalized feedback, making every session valuable. The environment is welcoming and supportive, with a great mix of people who motivate each other. This gym also holds multiple classes daily which is great for my schedule.

Well my name is on here so I’m just going to say my thought about this gym. CMT is an amazing Muai Thai gym, I’ve trained many martial arts my whole life and in many places. It is truly a temple of martial art knowledge and I only wish I could have been there hundreads more days. The things I learned there are pure gold and in truth absolutely priceless, like them or not the coaches/trainers have incredible methodology and knowledge. With this being said, not a single time I walked into cmt did I feel respected overall. I am not going to go into detail on this but I was also a coach for two years in sport, and some attitudes I found very unnecessary, with again feeling of lack of respect. Maybe it was just me, maybe being quiet and unsocial when I was there caused this. Regardless it is an amazing gym and if you are looking to learn muai Thai, the pinnacle of combat sport then I could not recommend it more to anyone, everywhere I went I talked to people about how good this place is truly I was in awe since the first time I walked into there. Wish I could had been there more
Lastly I would like to thank Alex who is an absolutely incredible teacher and martial artist. Jon as well.
I wouldn’t have written the anterior part on this review from halfway across the world where I live, but whoever the admin is of the cmt instagram knows why I did do this.
Thank you cmt and coaches

If you are serious about learning/improving your Muay Thai, Chicago Muay Thai (CMT) is an excellent gym. Classes are offered from 7 AM through 7:30 pm Monday through Friday and from mornings through afternoons on weekends. CMT instructors have many years of championship experience and will help students correct their form during and after class. This gym is unique because you can attend separate classes to target specific areas of weakness (for example, separate classes for fundamentals, boxing, sparring, yoga, etc.) This is also a great gym for building physical fitness, stamina, work ethic, and discipline. Whatever your skill level coming in, there are many resources to help you improve with the added bonus of traditional Thai culture (Bowing in/out of class) which is an important part of the sport. Highly recommend Chicago Muay Thai (CMT).

Just wrapped up my first month at Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club. The facility is clean, spacious, and has a legit 16 ft boxing ring. Over 50 classes a week, so scheduling is a breeze. Instructors are top-notch—knowledgeable, patient, and push you to your limits. The community vibe is welcoming, whether you're a newbie or experienced. Only downside: parking can be tricky during peak hours. Overall, a great place to train and get in shape.

I was a member of this gym for about three months, and while the experience was decent at first, I ultimately had to cancel due to financial difficulties and a serious leg injury. When I called to cancel, the owner pressured me to stay despite my severe injury, making the cancellation process unnecessarily difficult. Since I couldn’t physically go to the gym, they ended up charging my membership anyway.
To make matters worse, I didn’t realize they had charged me until later that month because my card had been stolen, and I assumed the payment wouldn’t go through. When I discovered the charge, I emailed the gym to explain my situation, reiterating that I had been dealing with an injury and hadn’t used the gym during that pay period. The owner eventually agreed to cancel my membership but made it clear over the phone that his priority was my payment, not my well-being. He outright told me he didn’t care about my injury.
When I asked for a refund for the charge, given that I hadn’t been able to use the gym due to my broken foot, he refused. He even suggested I should come in and train with my injury, dismissing my concerns entirely. I offered to provide proof of my injury in hopes they might pause my membership, but they showed no willingness to accommodate, insisting I should keep paying and attend despite my condition.
While the trainers at this gym are friendly, the business itself is poorly run and seems to prioritize profit over the well-being of its members. It’s disappointing because I was considering returning once my situation improved, but after this experience, I won’t be coming back. If you’re looking for a gym that genuinely cares about its members, I’d recommend finding one that prioritizes their customers' health and support rather than just their money.
If they had worked with me and offered a refund due to my injury and inability to attend, I wouldn’t feel the need to write a negative review at all. In fact, I would have gladly considered returning and paying the full price once my circumstances improved.
While the individual will provide the email I used to request cancellation (as mentioned in my review), this does not negate the fact that the organization demonstrated a lack of concern for the well-being of its students. Despite my inability to attend for an entire month due to a broken foot, it was made explicitly clear that there was no intention to accommodate my situation or issue a refund.
I took down my original review and now I am posting it again.

It’s one of the best teams in the entire country.
The place is amazing and the team is great. The coaches are top-notch; the athletes regularly competes nationally. They have classes everyday. You can literally train every single day if you want to. It definitely stands out as a premier Muay Thai gym in the city.

After moving from the suburbs, I recently joined this gym. The coaches are helpful with the technique and welcoming to new people, and they have classes every day for all levels. There's a good sense of community here, and the classes are intense but fun. The coaches are very credentialed (the walls are a belt factory), and you can just tell it's a high-level gym when you walk in. This place builds fitness and discipline like crazy, too. Pricing is fair, right on par with any good training in the city. Noel being there to welcome us is also a plus!

This place is just the best. The instructors are amazing, so many of the fighters and fellow students are friendly, helpful, and encouraging. CMT provides a welcoming and positive atmosphere for students for all ages and levels, and the owner Jim really cares about the quality of his school, in a way that few business owners ever do (he really cares about not just what CMT offers, but the work that students put in to get the most out of their time there).
I could not recommend CMT enough to anyone looking to train in or try Muay Thai!

This is THE place to train if you’re looking to do Muay Thai for fun or compete.
The coaches are the best in Chicago. They actually correct your technique and care about what you’re doing. The classes are well thought out and are very cohesive across all the board. Each coach has a different style and offers constructive thoughtful coaching. They carry themselves with professionalism and actually care about you as a student.
The best part about the gym other than the amazing team is the variety of class hours. They have morning, mid morning, afternoon, evening classes which is super helpful since my schedule changes weekly.
This place is a 100/10 stars!

Me: man, French (sorry for my somewhat broken English), 57 yo, training muay-thai with Thai teachers (as an expatriate in China) since 2017, no talent nor physical aptitude but after approximately 700 hours of training and 5 amateur bouts I grasped parts of the basics.
Staying in the US for a few weeks and training (had ~12 group classes, with 5 distinct trainers) for the first time at this gym.
TLDR: I liked it.
Long form:
Are you willing to pump your body and morale up, gain on self-control, confidence, balance, cardio, tonus, flexibility... but do all those 'fitness' or 'footing' stuff seem boring to you? You should try muay-thai, which will deliver all this plus many more, and the Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club offers an adequate path.
According to some one must prefer Thai teachers. I have experienced exactly this... and disagree. They teach the way they learnt, that is to say they sparsely describe, analyze and correct, they let you repeat the technique in order for your body to discover the way (if you suffer or are exhausted it adjusts empirically towards the adequate form, until finding the how-how). While it worked for them because it does wonders for a 10-years old staying at least 4 hours per day in the gym (molding techniques and his body altogether) while being surrounded by prizefighters, as they do in Thailand, it is quite weird for most of us, and it is difficult for the Thais to adjust their teaching ways to our habits.
I'm NOT saying that Thai cannot teach to us. Just that, as a beginner, you will sail way more efficiently and probably pleasantly with teachings dispensed by your cultural pairs.
Even if you are talented I'm quite sure that it will remain true during at the very (very) least your first year of training.
The Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club trainers are cool, well-disposed, patient and they will interact, correct and push you just enough for the experience to be both pleasant and useful. They demonstrate the technique while describing it, ask for questions, then periodically watch you and help you learn/adjust.
As usual in such a context young men are over-represented, however the students are quite diverse, upon all criteria, and sympathetic without being intrusive. As a newcomer I'm not used to the facilities and conventions, as a foreigner things aren't always easy to grasp on the fly, and as a very-short-term member I lack some pieces of equipment... and quickly found help and solutions, thanks to other students as well as staff members.
I did not see any 'grunting', that it to say agressive/dominating/violent people (as so common in some European countries) nor any 'clique' of people trying hard to exclusively interact with their pals.
In Europe many say that US gyms are divided in two exclusive categories: one for people aiming at becoming pro fighters where they spar to kill ('dog pit' style), and one for people who only 'dance' and never really spar (plateau'ing). The sheer existence of the Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club condemns this inept cliché: I saw people sparing in a smart and therefore efficient way (not in 'crush-you mode'), and the amount of prizes won by members and staff reveals that is has to be a common practice there.
The sheer amount of classes and their types is astonishing for me (I'm not used to this). I cannot fathom how a student, even ambitious, could not find enough adequate classes per week (day, hour, contents...).
The gym defines 'levels' of aptitude, each associated to a given amount of classes taken ad followed by a short exam. I'm not used to this (in China and Europe many gyms have mostly 'any-level' classes and subdivide on-the-fly with respect to the attendance) but given the amount of trainees it probably is the best approach, and the gym staff (duly) encourages everyone to attend 'fundamentals' classes.
The gym offers a "free trial" (refundable deposit) which in my opinion is a misnomer, this should be called "do yourself a favor".

This is a great place. Many, many classes, so this works well for people who have a tight/slightly unusual schedule. It's clean. Good facility. All levels welcome. Great instructors (all of them, with different instruction styles and personalities), and just great people in general. Respectful, considerate, knowledgeable, patient. They care and it shows.
By the time I came to this place (Sept 2023), I had been around different kinds of martial arts gyms/communities in Paris, Nairobi, Kisumu, Kampala, Oxford, and Boston (living abroad for work). I had experienced positive and less positive things. In my view, this place provides a very sound, welcoming, and supportive environment. At the end of the day, that's what you want.
I don't do Google reviews--nobody needs my opinion. My last (only?) google review might have been a review of my mom's bakery (when she had one... 11 yrs ago 😅). Im not related to any of the people who work here. This tells you how appreciative I am of the work they do.
Thanks.

If you are looking for a serious Muay Thai kickboxing gym Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club is the best in Illinois and quite possibly the best in the country. Their trainers frequently travel to Thailand and perfect the techniques from its roots! The gym welcomes all from any level of experience. I’ve trained at many gyms and CMT has advanced my skill level more rapidly and with greater detail than anywhere else. When you train here it feels like you are training with family. They also have national champions at many different weight classes which allows you to gain a multi-faceted perspective of the art from different body types. Whether your goal is becoming a master of Muay Thai or just getting into the best shape of your life, there is something for everyone here. And if you are looking to become an actual Muay Thai fighter and become part of their fight team, if you put in the work they will do everything they can to help you succeed! Thanks again to everyone at Chicago Muay Thai kickboxing club for all of their help.

In January, I signed up my son and I couldn’t any more happier with the organization. My son takes Kid class on Saturday and both Nick and Eric are excellent trainers. They have patience and take their time to check in on kids; form stance and so on. My son also does 1 on 1 instruction with Alex, he is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in his craft, the patience that he has is really admiring. My son is in the spectrum of autism and has childhood apraxia of speech and never have I felt like my son has been ignored or a problem to any of them. My son loves to come in and train with them. I am really thankful and glad that we have chose this gym as a corner stone for our sons learning experience.

It has been a complete nightmare signing up for this gym. I initially signed up for a 6 month plan, 1.5 months in, I had to have abdominal surgery and told them I needed to cancel my membership because of this. I still paid 2 full months. The gym did not care and sent me a 18 emails and 3 different people texted me about paying my bill. Mind you, I was still in bed from this surgery. I talked to these 3 different people and they’d drop thé conversation when it got to me having had surgery. A year later, I just got another text that they’re sending me to a collection agency if I don’t pay them $815.50 for having left the gym. At this point, this is harassment and I’ll need to take legal action. Mind you, their contract says cancellation is possible if there’s temporary disability, of which I consider an abdominal surgery. This has been the worst experience, the harassment is out of control.

This has been my go to gym for over 9 years! The gym has an open environment, and you really do get to meet people from diverse backgrounds. Whether your goal is for fitness or compete at a national level, they have the right coaches/training partners for you. The best part about the gym is that it offers so many classes throughout the day, it is hard not to find time even if you finish work late. Throughout the summer, they often have BBQ events after weekend classes! What better way to recoup energy after burning all the calories! I’m grateful for being part of the gym for so many years, and would recommend to anyone seeking a different workout other than weightlifting/cardio.

Late review but here it goes:
Awesome gym and staff/kru. Some other gyms charge a $200 monthly fee for less class availability (insane). This CLUB is 7 days a week. Multiple times of the day. You can’t beat the price (not insane). Great vibes.
Bring your own gloves, shin guards and wraps eventually.
After the first few times, you should have your own gear if you’re going to take this serious. Although, They have gear that you can borrow tho if you forgot. Again, this CLUB is where you want to learn Muay Thai/kickboxing.
TIP—Don’t come in late to class. Your shoulders will thank me.

Its a good gym and the coaches know what they're doing, but 2 things:
1) this place is way too overpriced, just for Muay Thai Its a ripoff. No student discounts or anything.
2) The gloves and pads at this gym smell god awful, they never clean them. There are many gyms in Chicago that clean the pads and the inside of the gloves 2x a day, but there a also a lot of other gyms that do not do this. It leaves your hands smelling awful and make you feel just disgusting.

Didn’t even walk much, we drove everywhere back home.

Jim, make the environment very welcoming and he is a very laid back personality, which definitely make a differences in helping people learn and have more confident. I attended about seven Muay Thai kickboxing classes through a Groupon. All of the instructors were very helpful and engaging and gave much needed assistance to newbies like myself. They are very good about providing different exercises based on your level of experience, so while some of the class was doing basic moves, the more experienced members were able to spar.
The class is very physically demanding depending on what types of moves you are working on that day. It always starts out with a good warm-up that usually incorporates some cardio such as jump rope and then some basic exercises like jumping jacks, push ups, burpies. Then they get into a designated area to work on such as jabs, kicks, elbows, or knees. I always felt like I was learning something new at every class.
The studio was nice, although the changing rooms could use some updating. Class sizes ranged from 4 people to about 8 or 10. It never felt too full and I was always able to receive the right amount of personal attention.
I highly recommend this place, especially for the kickboxing classes. I'm hoping to return and get a membership after the new year.

A friend and I bought a groupon for ten kickboxing classes. When we got there, they would not honor the groupon because we were not at the Evanston location. (The groupon website clearly said the kickboxing classes could be taken at either location.) They offered us one free class anyways. The teacher was friendly enough, but way more focused on perfecting little techniques than giving you a good workout. At the end of the class, I realized my brand new water bottle was stolen. One of the employees told us that sometimes, possessions were stolen from the gym. I do not recommend.

Get ready to sweat. I was going 3x/week, and after every class, I was drenched and exhausted. Even if you have no desire at all to fight, the classes will give you a full body workout, and you can't ask for better people to train with. Everyone here is encouraging and Jim won't hesitate to help improve your technique. Brian is a former professional MMA fighter who will drill with you and answer any questions you might have. Get in and get a great workout and meet some really cool people who share your desire to improve.

I got a Groupon for 10 classes and I didn't have any experience beforehand, but the two instructors I have had have both been really accommodating and helpful in bringing me up to speed. Not to mention my classmates have also been helpful. The classes themselves can be really challenging, but afterwards you feel like you've gotten a great workout while learning muay thai. If you are interested in muay thai in Chicago I would recommend the Evanston location, which is where I have gone, but I have heard the Chicago locations is great as well!

Large, friendly facility with good hands-on instruction. Classes appear to be comprised of a nice mix of men and women, young and not-so-young. There seems to be more than enough equipment for all participants, which is nice if you don't have your own or come from a different style of martial arts.

I have a first degree black belt in American Tai Kwon Do, but I always wanted to learn muy thai. This is a great place to start! Muy thai here teaches you realistic self-defense techniques while helping you to stay in shape.

I tried this class using my Metabody fitness pass. I am not an out of shape person and this class was extremely physically demanding for me. I liked that while we were taught the focus was always on having a good technique. I thought this class was more for self defense but its not. This is a great class for anyone looking for an intense workout with a long term commitment as you wont reach your goal after a few classes. I felt the instructor was very knowledgeable and while he was firm he was also very personable.

I loved the class! It was tough, but not too tough. Great way to get some fun cardio in with a Muai Thai lesson. I am looking forward to my next class! Great location too!

place is clean (mats) and instructors are really good! If you are a beginner and want to take Muay Thai, I would suggest this place. I've been to a lot of places that teach Muay Thai in the past 6 yrs and this place is definitely good.

I had a fantastic time while at Chicago Muay Thai Kickboxing Club. I was a regular going 3-4 times a week. A great workout that gives you real world experience in Self- Defense. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a group workout session. The instructors are their to push you but not belittle you and that goes the same for the people attending the classes as well. You need to go!!

While at the Muay Thai Kickboxing Club, I had an intense workout. The instructor was set on ensuring that everyone in the class was doing everything with the proper form. They have plenty of equipment so you don't have to spend too much if you simply want to try the classes. Overall great place. Im definitely going back.
The only drawback is that I am a broke college student but I would love to frequent the Muay Thai Kickboxing Club once I have a steady job.

CMTKC is the most dedicated and disciplined gym I've worked at. I started going to this gym almost 3 years ago as part of my venturing out to learn something new - best decision I've made! Not only have I gotten in shape but I have become more confident in myself and learned to work with others on a physical level. You can find a teacher there that will click with your way of learning things and that's a beautiful thing! Very happy to have a gym where I can continue to push myself in a safe environment.

I was new in Chicago and was trying to find a place to train Muay thai. I found them online and decide to try. The head Coach was very welcoming and has a great background in Muay thai and Karate. I have tried different classes at different level, everyone is very friendly. Bryan is a MMA champion and was very good in teaching very cardio class. They also have a great female instructor who actually trained in Thailand.
Great place to go for MMA and Muay thai.
