I originally liked this place. Nice people, appeared great communication. I liked the machines and a few of the trainers. But, I originally signed what I had been told was a 1 month training contract. I was charged the 2nd month, told I signed a 3 month contract.( I was never emailed the contract!) Okay, 3 months it is!! Reluctantly I accepted it. Then I was charged month 4!! Talked to Greg the manager, said it would be refunded. It was, , after he actually charged it again so he could reverse it!! So never really refunded. The charge is still there! Month 5 charged again!!! I have called ( no answer) , talked to MANY, MANY people and told it was being handled. Ive sent emails, never answered. I personally do not have the money to just throw around!! Sent another message this morning!! We'll see what happens!!

Not sure why so many people have been having bad experiences here. It is a great gym. I have the peak results membership and I go to get healthy and lose weight. I keep my headphones on and Im not really there to talk to people buthere are other members who will smile at you, or hold the door open for you. And it is a pretty diverse gym, and it's a no judgement zone. I will say it does tend to be understaffed, which would be why it seems less personable. They have weird sign up policy for classes which make it difficult to get into some of them. There are people who take a long time on equipment, but you just have to hover or switch up your routine and come back to it. The hydromassage is pretty nice and the red light therapy is amazing but the massage chair is not very comfortable. I haven't had issues bringing a guest before, but that doesn't discredit what others have gone through.

UPDATE, 4 months later, even after going to my bank, Crunch is AGAIN taking monthly payments... this is weird.

First, if you ever want to cancel, you wont be able to. So be carefully what you sign up for. I went in to cancel the gentleman said he did it, asked for a printed co firmation he said oh yiu dont need that its done... it was not. I had to call my bank and pay for a stop payment transaction. Super unprofessional crunch.

And my second gripe is the way you sign up for the scheduled classes - its the wild wild west! I was a member for 3 months and was only able to sign up for a handful of classes. There's just not enough room for the amount of people wanting to do the class. Which is a bummer because the few I was able to sign up for were really great!

The gym is ok, gets extremely over packed. Staff is great, management has to go. The older gentleman takes his job waaayyy to dam serious, they are now taking peoples ID. If you don’t give it to them they will not let your guests in. To be honest I’m gonna switch gyms because I feel like that should have been in the information b4 people sign up. They do over charge and they are constantly changing there procedures and you will see a lot of new employee faces, all there employees are looking for something else and they can’t hold trainers for the life of them. They have to get new management because that first interaction can affect your experience at the gym.
Recommend looking elsewhere guys

DO NOT GIVE THIS GYM YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION!!!!
Warning: Personal trainers offer illegal supplements to clients..

They offered me the personal training, neglected to inform me it was a 3 month commitment, then rushed through the “paperwork”.
I was offered illegal supplements by the crunch employee and contacted the GM to request a cancellation and refund. They “cancelled” my training membership and said they would refund my money which they never did.

I just got charged $280 again, AFTER talking to the GM. This is over $1500 this gym has stolen from my bank account, claiming they will cancel and refund but never following through. Continuing to charge me 6 months after I have tried to cancel. They will avoid contact with you, ignore emails, messages left with the front desk, and calling the corporate number it says it is “not monitored” and hangs up.

Do not provide them with your banking details, and surely do not sign up for personal training with them. If you are thinking of switching gyms, I would stick with planet fitness, they have never taken money against my wishes, lied, or avoided contact. They also have a corporate office that you can actually get in touch with if needed. Be very careful with this organization, they will take advantage of you and steal your money without a second thought.

*Update Below* Great experience so far! Only 2 sessions in, and being new to the area meeting nice people here has been motivating to keep coming back. Thanks Megan for a great first class!

Update: I’m about a year in and this gym has become a headache for me. Unfortunately, this is one of the only gyms in the area. The environment is mediocre, the workers have FREQUENT turnover at this location, and only seem to care about themselves. Understandable from a human perspective, but this is literally a customer service job…
The previous manager was a great guy and made some improvements like fixing issues near the entrance and in the women’s locker room. He always seemed to be moving about the gym and cleaning up, which made him seem passionate about the job. But it seems like someone else has taken over this franchise recently and is doing the bare minimum. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe all gyms are like this and I shouldn’t be picky, but I’ll be canceling my membership which unfortunately is THE BIGGEST HEADACHE!

Poor experience on only a trial pass. Old dude at the front acted like a jerk to us when one of his employees screwed up. The employee lied about how he made the pass for us and the old dude just tried scolding us. Avoid this gym at all costs. I did see cheap lightweight carabiners holding workout equipment together. Felt more like a hangout than a gym.

If only there was an option for 0 stars. Terrible customer service by the old guy at the front desk. I tried coming in with my girlfriend as a guest which he originally wanted to give them a tour of the gym, hold onto an id, and try to sell a membership. I understand that when someone is looking into joining a gym, but as a guest of a member, I don’t see that being necessary. I have the peak membership, which changed their policy and no longer allows guest, I didn’t realize that and when I asked him when that changed he had no answer for me, and try to tell me that I’ve never had that privilege, and when I stated that I have previously brought in guests he tried to tell me I was wrong and that I
didn’t know what I was talking about. When I asked if there was anyway we could still workout he tried to sell me a day pass and I asked if there was any sort of free trial for her he belittled me and tried to tell me that’s no way to run a business, when plenty of other gyms do in fact offer free trials for someone. I’m not looking to take advantage of the gym and get in for free, but I have been a member for almost 10 years, drove about 45 minutes to go there and the guy was of no help. Needless to say I will be cancelling my membership and going somewhere else that actually values members.

I’ve been here since 2018, and finally cancelled my membership, tried scanning in “I’ve had problems for the last couple month with the scanner” finally Greg which I’m assuming is the manager of the gym since, it’s become crunch I’ve seen employees drop like flies , told me that my account hadn’t been charged since April and wanted me to pay all this money upfront and that I never had nothing in file mind u I’ve used the same account since it was zip in 2018 and even it went over to crunch they transferred my account over no problem, and all the sudden he wanted to charge me all this money for a error on there he’d absolutely not and canceled my membership that was my breaking point such clumsiness and immaturity just over all a mess. All brand new equipment over a year old already breaking and damaged this place has been going down hill since late last year.

If I could do zero stars I would. I have called over 20 times to speak to the Manager to cancel my membership. They always say “he’s not in, we’ll have him call you”. I have never received a call from him. I started asking when he would be in, they say “8-10” I come in, he is again not here and that he worked “5-3” that day. I ask when he will be here tomorrow and again they say “8-10”. What can you guess, just came in at 8:15 and he is working “10-8” today. If you cannot be a proper manager then train others to do cancellations. I have never seen some much unprofessional in my life…

I called the center regarding cancelling my membership. I was told to send an email if I could not make it in. I sent an email and another and another, and several more after that with no response. I finally had a moment to stop in, and I was told I could not cancel, that I had to come back during the week when the manager was available. What?!?!? That is ridiculous. I am sure the hours the manager is there are approximately the hours that I work, so coming in during the week won't work. It shouldn't be this hard to cancel a membership!

Hello,

I wanted to bring guest today. I was willing to pay much more money for the additional guest. To my surprise they have policy in their facility that their employees never followed through with. I was told today for the first time that I have to get guardianship for teenagers between 14 years old to 17 years old which has never been enforced. My nephew and I have been going to crunch fitness together for since the beginning of me attending this gym. So for this I’d have to say this is a product of poor management because if the staff is not enforcing this it falls on the person who taught his employees. The manager offered no one time situation to accommodate us either which is unfortunate when I was going to pay more for them to come to the gym for just one day.

Additionally, my friend (Alessio Jones) was the reason I really started going to the Round Lake, IL crunch fitness gym in the first place. He was fired for a really poor reason. The manager spontaneously change the schedule on him. It took him by surprise and had other things he had to attend to during the time they scheduled him. The text thread is attached between the manager and his former employee. It is upsetting that a manager would act this way towards his employees.

I today canceled my Crunch Fitness membership in Round Lake, IL. Im taking my business to LA Fitness because they accommodate my request better and from what I’ve discovered treat their employees better.

I hope in the future the they start to treat their long standing employees better and accommodate customers in a more positive light.

Warm Regards,

Joseph Cohn

What kind of business makes it as hard as possible to cancel the membership. My daughter drove there just to cancel, but was told they can't do it. "Come back in the afternoon and maybe the manager will have time to cancel it with you". Are you guys serious? She has a life! Seeing the hoops she has to jump to cancel, I recommend everyone to look at other gym options.

Make sure to cancel a month before to avoid being charged!!! I canceled 10 days before and was told I'll still be charged because their "policy" is 20 days. I was never emailed a policy when signing up and never received a cancelation email either. Tried using the tanning beds so it was worth being charged AFTER canceling just to ALWAYS have an issue. Whether with the machines or the "customer service" that is so poorly given. Had the tanning bed turn off on me after about 3 minutes to have to get out and try calling for them to turn it back on to get no answer. Put all my clothes back on to have the old man want to argue with me about turning it back on or even answering their phones. Which neither should've been an issue considering THEIR machine just turned off and THEY chose not to answer their phones. Will definitely be going back to Planet Fitness as I NEVER had any issues there.

They are making it impossible for me to cancel. I’ve emailed multiple times, no response. I’ve called multiple times and “the manager isn’t available” is all I get.

It’s really a shame because it’s a nice gym but it’s leaving a terrible taste in my mouth because I feel like I’m being scammed. Next step if they don’t honor my request is to go to my bank.

Crunch, do better. This is unacceptable.

After 2 decades at gyms, dozen gyms across the country, years as a certified trainer; ive never been to a gym that so consistently makes me more stressed post workout then this place.
Pros: the front staff is good people, the management seem like theyre trying, the gyms got good equipment. Redlight is dope considering how rare it is to have accessible.

Cons: the clientele are the worst humans ive been in contact with since i led infantrymen. Just the worst troglodyte kinda people.
They make the women there feel unsafe. (From the 3 women ive spoken to about it)
They will come in and take your clearly defined space.
SOME TRAINERS will just kick you out of your workout and take your space. (Not how that works, even for classes.(are you even certified?))
Sauna is either great(occasionally), or horrible(often) and youll never know which and theres nada you can do about it. People will bring personal speakers and blast their music and theres no rule against it, you can politely ask them not to, like when i asked the guy in the sauna to use his headphones instead of his speaker, but you’re likely to have them try to physically fight you about it, like he did. Which the employees are aware of, which is why they dont do anything about it. (Confirmed after 2 separate conversations)
The best employees there leave within a few months.
Its sad. It could be a great gym but the standard of people it attracts is just the worst.
2 stars cuz the equipment is good and the employees try.

Additional amenities at this location are severely lacking compared to other locations. The men’s sauna is constantly cold. It’s been tripping a faulty heat sensor since I had my membership begin 6 months ago and it’s still an issue, management is clearly not interested in fixing a feature that’s supposed to cost extra money. Showers are always dirty, once there’s a better option in the area I’ll be going elsewhere unless the facilities become reliable.

The only reason I go to this gym is because it’s nearby. I don’t have much time to drive around considering I am a full time student while also working a job in my free time. This gym has been declining in quality what seems like everyday, from cleanliness to machines not working this gym just knows how to check all the boxes on the wrong list. They only enforce “policies” when they feel like it considering if you go anytime past 7 pm the gym is packed full of kids no older than 15, which directly is against the policy. If you feel like being smart and telling management… DONT! 10/10 you will win the argument and it will end with a threat to terminate your membership, since the people employed here have the mental capacity of a toddler put into a position of power. Honestly for the price you are better off going to an LA Fitness or some other 24/7 gym because this gym is only good if you planning to go early in the morning and want to bask in the filth that they don’t clean.

April 9th i went into crunch with my youngest brother. We are a biracial family. When I walked in i asked the front desk if he needed to sign in. I was told no because hes a minor. Even without asking his age the man behind the desk sated he needed to be with a legal guardian. I told him i was. then he preceded to question if i was his mother or legal guardian. He continued to question us based on our appearance. Our mother passed 3 years ago which i took legal action to get guardianship of my siblings. Which i told him. He stated he needed to come with his father or mother. Then told me to come back with paperwork. I have had this gym membership for over a year now. i have never been more disappointed and in shock with how i was treated by staff that are supposed to be welcoming. I tired to call the gym multiple time to speak to a manager but ultimately the phone rings and got straight to voicemail. I have recently referred many people to sign up for this gym. I will be sharing how me and my younger brother were treated with these people and many others.

Tried to go to crunch with my brother and friend after filling out the free trial form online that is advertised EVERYWHERE. We were looking for a gym to go to when we get back from college. The old man manager working there was extremely rude and did not allow us to get a tour or use the free trial unless we paid for a membership. He had an immense amount of attitude and told another worker that he felt like we weren’t there for the right reasons and thought we were trying to just go there for free. What’s the point of a free trial and tour if you are going to give customers a hard time to check out your gym and make them pay for a membership? When he was giving attitude, he also asked my friend if she was recording him when she was just standing there. We just wanted to check out the gym and use the free trial to consider getting a membership... If I could give it a zero. I would. Manager is so rude and not welcoming at all.

I generally do not leave reviews unless I believe there is room for improvement. I have been a member for almost 4 months now, work our 5 or 6 times week and the main reason I joined was for the classes. The main problem here is that the rooms for the classes are to small and most of the classes I am interested in are fully booked with in 1 or 2 minutes of opening. Of the 20 classes I have signed into I have made it into 2. At the time a class starts almost every class is fully booked. I have talked to the manager about this issue on a couple occasions and he says they will add classes but this has not happened. They could expand into the empty unit next to them, expand the size of all of their class rooms to add more spots in each class. Currently two of the leg machine I use have been broken for 3 weeks and today the machine next to them broke. One last thing they supply paper towels to clean the machines after use. These paper towels are often stuffed into the drink holders and scattered across the floor. I have seen the same paper towels laying on the floor from the beginning to the end of my hour workout. They should have a person that picks these up every 15 minutes. They have potential but currently lacking.

I'm not sure why there are negative reviews on top of negative reviews. But, upon signing up, it is evident that the gym is pretty busy all the time - it is in the heart of Round Lake and it offers much more than the membership you get at LA/Snap. I've never had a negative encounter with the employees nor manager. So again, I don't know why the reviews are so bad for this gym.

The machines are new and smooth. There are several workout areas which allows everyone to scatter out and not feel on top of each other. The cardio machines are certainly most of the time full - but the rotation is adequate to a 5-10 minute wait. The sauna is clean and spacious. A friend of mine and I tried the hot yoga class and phew was that a great workout - my heart rate was up to 170 bpm. The locker rooms are clean. The tanning beds are up to date - the same as LA tan. I have yet to try the massage chairs but I would say there should be a little more privacy because people can see you when they walk in/out of the gym.

The only negatives are people do not put weights back so you might have to move a few 45 pounders which can be annoying. Also, the machines are not wiped off by the end of the day - as I've been one of the first to walk in at 5 am and you can see the finger prints and smudges.

Other than that, you can't beat the price tag for this membership.

I’ve had a mostly positive experience at this gym thanks to the hardworking front desk and cleaning staff. They are always friendly, professional, and keep the facility clean and welcoming. Their dedication truly enhances the overall atmosphere.

However, my encounter with the manager Bill was very disappointing.

I had an extremely uncomfortable experience at Crunch Fitness in Round Lake, IL. As the gym was closing, the manager, Bill, entered the locker room while about 10 women were still getting ready to leave-some were in the middle of changing. When I confronted him about it, his response was, 'Yes, I can. I announced myself. Next time, I'll be louder. This was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. A gym should be a safe and respectful environment for all members, and this situation made many of us feel uncomfortable.

Hoping to see improvements in the future, so this does not happen again!

Locker rooms and bathrooms dirty never clean, the employees can’t even restock the cleaning wipes for the machines. Sauna was broken for like two months and now that it’s fixed you have to ask the employees to turn on the sauna mind you I’ve had to ask 3-4 times because they’re too busy gossiping. Then they want to up they’re prices for the Annual maintenance fee to $59.99 for what for the machines not work or not being able to use the machines that actually do work because other people are using. Very unprofessional not worth spending your money.

Aside from being the dirtiest gym and locker room I’ve ever seen, they make it extremely difficult to cancel your membership.
I moved, so I called to cancel. I was told I need to come in person. Annoying, but ok.
I come in person and calmly tell “Alex” at the front desk “I moved and need to cancel my membership.” He was immediately hostile and refused to cancel my membership.
Now the manager is asking me to make another 2 hour round trip to cancel in person.
I ALREADY CAME IN PERSON TO CANCEL AND WAS DENIED.
Go to any other gym. This place is awful and customer service is horrendous.

I love Crunch gyms for their classes. I don't enjoy the consistent harassment to participate in their "free" evaluation, including calls, texts, emails, and deactivating my bar scanner (three times now), not allowing me access to the gym until they again remind me to get my evaluation. I have expressed I have zero interest in the evaluation, which I know is a tactic to get members to sign up for their personal training. I just want to be left in peace to go to the classes. If they deactivate my scanner again, then I will give my 30 days notice and quit.

After about a week, this is absolutely the worst kind of gym.
There is not enough equipment or space for the crowd level that is consistently there. Hope you don't like squats because you will never touch a squat rack here.
The sauna is either not on, or turns off in less than 10 minutes. It has never been anywhere near warm enough.
The music is absurdly loud at some times of the day. Who is this even for? Everyone wears headphones and no one wants to listen to loud distorted remixes of 2000s music.
It actually makes me sad how awful this gym is. Definitely regretting switching to this.

The sauna is terrible. It turns off after every hour and someone has to reset it. It especially sucks when not enough staff are here on the weekend, so the only girl working can’t go in the men’s locker room to turn on the sauna… I come here to use the sauna. Good gym but my gripe is with the sauna.

This was the worst gym that I have been to, the employees have no idea what is going on and the management is incredibly rude. I do not recommend anyone to go here. It’s a waste of money.

When signing up, the employee said I HAD to sign up with my card, I was not allowed to sign up with auto debit. I was also told that certain people get the card processing fee of $1.99. When asked why some people get it and not others I was told that is just how the system was. Not even a week later I was told that I must give my bank account and routing number for auto debit after I was just told no. I was told this time that there would be no processing fee because it was auto debit. I went into the gym and was told my information was wrong and needed to be added in again because it was an issue on my end. I was told that there would be no processing fee with auto debit. When they did my auto debit, they charged me a processing fee.

I also brought up the membership discount that this Crunch location has with my employer. The manager himself claimed he knew about it but needed to see the email from my employer to figure how much to charge me. I don’t understand how the manager of a gym could not know what they agreed to when making the partnership.

I then waited patiently at the front desk line to cancel my membership because I’m unhappy with the lack of knowledge and don’t feel comfortable at a place that you get told a different answer every time you go.

The manager was speaking to another customer about a billing issue. He stepped aside to ask what I needed and I said I wanted to talk about canceling and ask about the annual fee charge. He said he was busy which I said I can see which is why I was waiting in line until he was available. He was incredibly rude telling me to read my contract and to give him privacy and move away while he figured out the billing issue with the other client. If he wanted privacy, maybe he shouldn’t have a line formed at the front desk when dealing with issues.

this gym is awful, just like zip fitness was. the staff is nice, but theres always new staff, which makes me think the management or something must be rough if they can't keep employees around. the machines are ALWAYS broken and they don't get fixed for weeks or even months. i have NEVER seen a treadmill service worker out to service the broken treadmills... there are about 4 treadmills broken, womens sauna doesn't work, womens handicapped bathroom stall was out of commission for weeks, not to mention there was crap stains inside the toilet that did not get cleaned for at least a week in the women's room, now if the toilet is dirty, imagine how dirty everything else is... and it's disturbing that gyms are full of germs and who knows what and we have an unknown bottle to spray on a weak paper towel to wipe down the machines that never seem to be professionally cleaned.

seems like this gym only cares about personal training which is just another way for them to make money. that's why they hound you when you sign up and really try and push it. but doesn't seem like the personal trainers last there either.

i was really excited about something new in the area until it slowly became a dump just like i expected it to since the crunch owners probably only care about profits instead of investing in their business to actually make it likable.

whoever decided to put the new coffee spot in the parking lot, that was a dumb idea too. the construction is annoying and the trucks block our cars...real nice. also the parking lot already isn't super large and now that coffee shop is going to be inconvenient and I bet a line of people will be lining up, blocking traffic, and blocking more of our cars.

Worst gym ever, was told this was a newly renovated gym with all the amenities, wow to my surprise this was a hugely fabricated lie, sauna not working, AC issues just a major cluster of deceptive practices. Staff are extremely rude when questioned about the standards of the establishment but the icing on the cake is how every month their seems to be issues regarding double or triple payments stating my account is passed due,, when prove was shown on my bank account statement the story suddenly changes stating the manager would handle the situation, when speaking with the manager Greggory Ludwick he became irate and defensive because I was so fed up I asked to cancel my membership he said that he would rectify the issue but not to cancel my membership. At this point I was do over it and canceled anyway. Better to just go to LA Fitness way better customer service and support from the staff.

Manager Greg gets upset when you confront them about issues, he can be really rude, probably not the best person to be managing a gym! Stay clear from this gym, got trespassed and cops called on me (think it’s a scare tactic for them) when manager wouldn’t give me this silly little paper to cancel my membership, got mad when I said I wanted to cancel due to being overcharged, when I switched from the basic to the peak membership their employee didn’t update my bank info, so they waived the late fee, manager said since you had so many late fees waived (it was just one) trying to throw shots at me, being very unprofessional and mad because I called them out for doing a shady practice when it comes to refunds, their own employee said so many people have been coming in for the same issue, manager got upset that I brought it up, shout out to the cops for having to come in just so I can get this paper of prooof! They will overcharge and charge even when you cancel, money hungry shady business, better gyms out there! :) where I’m sure the manager will not get upset! Spend elsewhere, coming from their own employee, I never write reviews but I want y’all to save your money! Since in trespassed and canceled they will still charge me for next month lmaooo, please stay away, so many other people been having over charge issues, coming out of their own employees mouth.

I would give Crunch a 5-Star review, the renovation was tolerable, and the results are great, nice club! The staff could be a little more engaged, but that is probably generational, I'm old. My issue is that as machines are decommissioned (stuff breaks), they are slow to repair, and the padding on the Biceps machine needs to be replaced. Great value and nice people overall, I do recommend!

To improve my health as well as being an example of healthier habits for my children, I joined the gym to incorporate exercise into my life. I was informed one free health assessment with a trainer came with my membership. I had the pleasure of working with Nick. I was very vulnerable in my assessment, speaking of my bias of trainers due to a past assessments at competing gym who seemed to enjoy working people to the point of exhaustion, which lead to me not returning. I also told him that, I don’t know what to do, what equipment to use, but for the sake of my kids, I was ready to commit. Last, my family is paycheck to paycheck due to our wages not matching ongoing increasing cost of living, so I need to be mindful of my spending. Nick was empathic, thanked me for my honesty, & created a great plan for me that included realistic expectations of my goals, as well as offering something within my budget. He had me complete different exercises to work on my target areas, and ensuring that with each movement, I was practicing good form, breathing properly, & ensuring I was comfortable. I’m excited about exercise again due to the wonderful trainers like Nick and staff at the gym, & the support that they give to their customers.

I tried speaking to the so called manger GREG LUDWIG who is incompetent. & always kept getting the run around on one of the occasions he said he couldn’t talk to me because he had to pick up his pizza. Every time I try speaking to him he sends someone in representation. Also have heard a lot other members complaining about being over charged and them not doing anything about it. This is an ongoing situation and frustrating to say the least save your time and money and avoid at all cost!

Showed bank statements where I was charged. The so called manager said he fixed this. Same story every week. When the gym started calling me at 6 am everyday demanding money I canceled. Manager and employees are really nice, too bad owners so cheap and apparently apathetic.Takes forever to fix broken equipment, padding cracked or completely worn off, almost every treadmill has one or more problems, lights burnt out in shower areas for years, showers not properly cleaned if at all. No wonder all their other locations are closed.
Half the members cant be bothered to show proper gym etiquette, not wiping off equipment or even putting weights away or sitting on their cell phones 5+ minutes tying up machines. I guess when you charge $15 a month you get a lot of $15 type people.
UPDATE OCTOBER 2024.....PLEASE NOTE, THE ABOVE REVIEW WAS 2+ YEARS AGO WHEN THIS WAS 'ZIP FINTESS'. SINCE ITS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP BY CRUNCH ITS NOW A BERY GOOD GYM, WELL STAFFED/MANAGED, REMODELED AND ALL NEW EQUIPMENT. MY RATING INCREASES TO 4 STARS (it would be 4.75 but there is no option for that. Why not 5? The new locker room could use more benches, a littlemore privacy for the shower area, seating so its easier to change and more hooks there to hang clothes and gym bags).

I was charged the annual gym fee twice and was told that I would have 2 free months due to the mistake to make up for it. I was given a fist bump which was weird in itself. The next month I still got charged and when I went in to see why this happened I was met with two managers, one who didn't have a clue what to do in this situation and the original manager that told me he would correct the issue.
I was asked why I wasn't going to the gym for the last few weeks during this interaction. Not sure why that matters at all to them. I felt as though that was extremely unprofessional of him to ask.
Overall it was a horrible experience being a member there. Bad customer service, lack of cleanliness and I actually signed up with Crunch Fitness due to the fact that it's a new, clean gym so this was extremely disappointing.
And by the looks of it, it seems like there are others who also had the same bad experience as well.

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, I contacted the Crunch Fitness location in Round Lake Beach due to being charged $49.99 annual fee. I just paid the annual fee on May 9th, so paying the annual fee again did not make sense. I spoke to a “manager”, and he said that he’d see if the charges could be reversed since I should not have been charged the annual fee again. Once he realized he could not reverse the charge, he stated that he would not charge my account the following months so that I could break even. He then stated that the next time I came into the gym to ask for him so he could explain the details. I asked him his name and he said it was Kevin. I was okay with that plan.
About an hour later I went to the gym and asked for Kevin, so he could explain the details. He said, “Oh you’re good”. I told him, “You couldn’t tell me that over the phone? Why did I have to come in for you to tell me I was good?” (I also asked him that when we spoke on the phone). Then he said, “I told you; you didn’t have to come in today…we could have talked about this the next time you came in”. This annoyed me since I left work to ensure this issue was ironed out as no one wants to be overcharged! Again, I stated that this could have been discussed over the phone. Kevin then stated, “Look, do you want to argue about this or not?!”. I said, “We can absolutely argue about this! This is your error. I was overcharged”. He stated that this was not his error…I said it was the company’s error.
To avoid causing a scene, I told him to learn customer service skills and walked out (without proof that this was taken care of). This guy clearly does not know what he is doing and lacks professionalism. You do not argue with a customer…you work together to find a solution. The situation was not that deep, but I will not tolerate disrespect from anyone. Also, I have no written proof that this was taken care of. Due to poor professionalism and playing with my money, I’m done at this gym…and they WILL reverse the annual fee or make the situation right.

***Update: This place is a joke. The staff turnover is ridiculous. Also, look at all the positive feedback they are receiving directly AFTER the “owner” replied to the previous bad feedback (Aug 15th, 2024 onwards). The timing of these comments is off and being manipulated. 8 positive comments in less than an hour after I spoke with the manager/owner in person and discuss their customer service. Cut it out!!! Glad I closed out my account.***

Fix the men’s sauna. I’m tired of walking up to the front desk and asking you guys to turn it on. Ridiculous. Not to mention I’ve received attitude from the staff multiple times because they thought I was messing with the sauna when I ask them to turn it back on. One of them got really agitated when I asked him to turn it on. It was the Hispanic guy with black short hair and gold chains. If the sauna turning off repeatedly is an issue then have your staff repeatedly check on it to be sure it’s functioning properly. I shouldn’t have to ask you guys EVERY SINGLE TIME I go to the gym, to turn on the sauna. Jeez! Just be present and keep the sauna on! It’s actually not even that hard. I’ve seen you turn it on before. Takes less than a minute. Put up rules outside the sauna so people know not mess with any controls or add water to the sauna. This is just bad business practice. Step it up fr.

I went to this gym as a guest. I totally loved it! It had everything that you would need, including treadmills, other cardio machines, free weights, weight machines, and this really cool 30 minute circuit that had 13 different machines that targeted different muscle groups. It did not smell AT ALL like an icky gym in there, and it had a sauna in the very clean locker room. The members of the gym all were super good about wiping the machines down after use. The employees were friendly and helpful. If I lived around here, I would definitely join this gym! It's recently been renovated and would totally be worth the money!

I am a ex member of LA, I decided to change gyms, I went to Aira fitness and I didn't stay bc at the time of the tour I got horrible anxiety from seeing all the dirty machines, dust everywhere, etc. So I decided to come to crunch, everything looked very good the first week, new machines, place very clean, etc. I've been here for 4 months and the gym is getting so dirty this place is looking horrible day with day, all the treadmill are so dusty it really makes me anxious to see that they don't clean the machines, the mirrors are all dirty, the bathrooms are disgusting, the windows are all dirty, I never see anyone cleaning, no matter what time I come everything is always disgusting.
Sinks and toilets never seem to be clean either. There are plenty of staff that they should be able to get these things done before closing or at the very least before opening. Sad to let a brand new facility look like this. I am really thinking to go back to LA at least they always try to keep the facility clean. Crunch is a good place but just seeing how dirty it is every single day get my anxiety so bad.

I have had this membership since January. I haven’t gone in to utilize my membership but went in today to use the treadmills as the heat outside is just too hot. I thought maybe going to the gym would be safer as I thought they would have working A/C but I was wrong! I felt like I was going to pass out. My husband has a heart condition and I just didn’t feel comfortable staying there without temperature control. I read a review from D Burns and apparently the a/c is not working. I agree with him and that the gym should at the very least let the members know about there not being working a/c instead of letting them potentially pass out! I won’t be going back until the a/c is repaired and if it does not get repaired, I will cancel my membership!

I almost gave up on this place during the reno, but decided to renew for a year. I go almost every day in the summer and about 2 weeks ago I saw an hvac truck outside. Well, it’s still not fixed. The employees have a nice fan behind their desk, but sorry patrons! Nothing for you. They should warn patrons that the ac is out, especially for people with heart, heat and respiratory issues. The thermostat read 80 and with the humidity inside, it brutal. I feel like this is somewhat of a health concern.
