This place has changed my life over the past year and half! Most of the staff is very friendly, the daycare area is something my son looks forward to, there's a plethora of machines to choose from, and not to mention all of the extra curricular activities at a discount. I'm so grateful for the Y!

I donβt like how the treadmills are basically pressed against the wall. All you have to look at is the ugly white cinder block 5 inches from your face! Move them back!!!

I decided to end my membership at the YMCA after about 6 months or so and I'd like to add my input.
Good things: Overall a nice, modern gym with lots of varying activities and this location is open everyday, or at least I think it was. For some reason it was closed on Sunday so maybe things have changed. Also the family pool area is very nice with two water slides and everyone seens to be enjoying themselves there.
Things that bothered me: Maybe this is a common thing for gyms with daycare but its only open until 12pm, and it reopens sometime later in the afternoon like 4:30. This personally didnt work out for me because my ideal time to get to the gym would probably be like at 1pm but when it has to be before 12pm I feel so rushed and dont even want to go and after 4:30 is also not a good time because thats around dinner time and the day is getting too late for my little ones already. When the family pass costs almost $100 each this was a major reason why I decided to discontinue it as this family pass was barely getting used.
The only other thing that bothered me one time was when a young lifeguard told me once that I could stay in the pool but then he quickly changed his mind and said I had to leave because of swim lessons. Im already over it and it was my fault for not knowing the pool wasnt available on Saturdays before 12 due to swin lessons, but it was very annoying and such an inconvenience since like I stated before I HAD to get there before 12 because of the daycare hours, so again, those daycare hours really just made give up on this place.
I have to say though it is a nice facility overall but its just difficult when you gotta bring the kids along. The problem isnt magically solved just because theres a daycare and I realized that the hard way. Im sure this place would be perfect for someone who is single and isnt subjected to going at certain times of the day and so on.

1st time at this facility. Took family swimming. Kids had fun. That night my eye started to swell. By morning I can't see. I have a serious eye infection from bacteria in the water. Oral antibiotics. Swelling would continue to spread if not treated immediately by professional. I called and told them what happened. They didn't care about my call of concern for public safety. See picture of what I got immediately from visiting this pool. 3 days later I'm in the ER!

Amazing family indoor mini water park! And great staff for the most part, some of the younger male lifeguards were aggressive with telling kids to not play a certain way, but ALL the lifeguards (and there were many) were very focused and on top of everyone's safety in and around the water park. If you go online and sign up for a 1-time day guest pass the WHOLE YMCA access is free! And the kids had plenty to do even though the indoor Waterpark is smaller. It was just the right size for babies to teens, and there's seats for parents who are boring and dont want to swim lol. Highly recommend going, im definitely going back!!

Beware of Kids Corner. Both of my kids got physically hit by other kids on 2 separate occasions. They claim they have a 0 tolerance policy in place and are fully staffed but no one did anything to rectify the situation . Also they claim they are fully staffed but my child was getting hit and scratched as I was walking in and a staff member was standing next to her. I called several times to see how they will resolve the situation and they never called back. Obviously they donβt care.

Iβm extremely disappointed with the experience my family and I had at this YMCA. We came expecting a family-friendly environment, but unfortunately, that was not the case. A lifeguard shouted at my nine-year-old son in front of everyone, causing him to feel embarrassed and upset. He was simply trying to swim in the pool, which we were told he was allowed to use, when he was publicly reprimanded without warning.
There was no explanation given, no attempt to speak to us calmly, and the situation was handled in a completely unprofessional manner. I understand the importance of safety, but there are respectful and constructive ways to communicate with children, especially in a place that is supposed to be welcoming to families.
This experience has left a very negative impression, and I hope the YMCA takes steps to better train their staff in dealing with young members respectfully.

Great staff but the changing rooms and bathrooms are not well kept and the shower curtains in the bathrooms were weirdly installed. Water was spraying everywhere.
I would have liked a bit more swim time for the amount I paid but I am fine with it a bit because they allowed outside food.

Nice place but I'm giving it a terrible review because they dont care the age of male boys in the female locker room. While boys over the age of 5 are not allowed there, my wife sees boys as old as 12 in there EVERY Saturday. Because of this my wife has to change in the bathroom stall with my 4yo daughter bc the other parents don't want to use the family bathroom. Shameful

Love coming here for their gym. They have a sauna, lap pool and regular pool with a couple slides, a gym, basketball court, and more. They also offer classes such as yoga and pilates which are nice. Only wish they had longer working hours on Saturday as they close at 6, and it can get quite busy and crowded later in the day.

This is a honest review for any family looking to use YMCA open gym hours for basketball. There is absolutely no reasonable time set for open basketball shooting. Their hours are always occupied with FULL COURT pickup basketball games going on. When they advertise open times court time, if you think you will be able to practice, you will just get pushed off the court by inconsiderate YMCA members that will take over your hoop. There are also members who will threaten you so that you will leave, and they have the court to themselves. Trying to practice basketball with my younger son, in a YMCA youth league, is impossible to do at this facility. The supervisors who should be taking control and help, but instead they do minimal effort, and nothing ever gets resolved. I have been raising this issue for months now, and nothing changes. Quitting this YMCA is a decision I wish I had done month(s) ago.

Excellent and clean facilities. However over the years Iβve noticed staff treat a lack of respect for the teenagers, especially the teenage boys. A teenage girl under 16 never has a problem using the free weights but if I group of guys who are actively spotting each other do it they get scolded and booted out of the weight room. Many workers are nice so I hate to generalize but many of them, especially the older ones, seem to get a kick out of kicking kids out of the gym.

My son had before and after care with the Y, and had the pleasure of attending summer camp this week with them, and he is loving it! We were able to have my sister watch him most of the summer, therefore we did not need camp, but I now kind of wish we would have brought him in sooner, as he is having a blast.
He did attend a different camp on week 3 of summer break, and he did not like it. My husband also noticed a big difference with the staff as soon as he dropped off our son at the YMCA camp this week in comparison to the last. (The other camp counselors seemed more into wanting to be on their phones and socializing with each other rather than being interactive with the kids).
Thank you to the YMCA staff!!!
Kassandra Lepe and Jenna Duffels have both also been very friendly and helpful in answering any questions and concerns regarding the Kid Zone (before & after school care) and summer camp. Thank you!

I love the facilities. And this would be a 5 star because of that. But I have to put 2. Due to the fact we have been members for 2 months and everytime we have questions about things we are met with a rudeness from the front desk. I use to be a member at Naperville for 12 years and itβs what drew me back. Iβm not sure if they just hate their job or what not but if it doesnβt change I will absolutely terminate my membership. Thatβs not the Y environment I experienced growing up that drew me back.

The child care thats for a couple hours so you can get a workout in is pretty bad. One thing I donβt understand is this is a health and fitness facility. Why canβt my kids come workout with me if theyβre under 13? I have two extremely active, strong, kids that could benefit from their gym rather than sitting in a room playing video games. The parents that use this child care are obviously active and most likely want their kids to follow.
Also the last time I went there was a man in his 50s there just sitting watching the kids. He didnβt work there but was just sitting. Whatβs going on here?

Not friendly people @ all Iβll rather go to the one in Joliet. Definitely treat children horribly. Thought it would have changed by now but it hasnβt. Beautiful building but horrible staff may not be all but it only takes one bad apple to spoil the entire staff. Not sure why it would taken five people to be @ the front desk.

On three different occasions, the older lifeguard with short white hair has ruined our time at the YMCA Plainfield swimming pool. My kids were in the pool having a good time for 20 minutes, with the other lifeguards on duty, no problem. Then she came in and complained we werenβt following some rule about being within arms reach, the kids can touch the entire pool flat footed easily, I was in the pool to my ankles, activity watching them, not on a phone or distracted and she comes in after us being there 20 minutes and she says itβs not okay and runs to get her manager.
If you are having a good time, she will find a way to ruin it.
Iβm tired of the YMCA hiring people with no common sense.
The Y is built on community and bringing people together and she, that particular employee, chases people away.

I can get a workout in while my child plays with other kids in the child watch area or during her ballet on Saturday. She loves the pool. Fitness/activities for mother and child for just over $2 a day. Can't beat that for this quality. I feel safe leaving my child in the day care as one must pass through multiple entryways and several employees to get in! Go during the week when there is less people, if possible.

Very crowded at all times. There is never anywhere to play basketball. The mornings have adult games on the weekends and they take the entire gym. Then there are programs and parties that take up the gym. With all the money in membership and parties, you would think they would expand the gym. Itβs hard to continue to pay membership and my kids can never play here. Checked back 3 years later after originally writing this, still same thing.

I am so disappointed in the lack of respect for sharing equipment from all of the young users. They are taking photos...texting...and on social media. Tonight when i tried to use a piece of vacant equipment I was stopped and told I am on it I am just texting my mom. If you are over the age of 30 and you have no need for the family services ythe Y offers you may want to consider another gym option.

The only reason I give this establishment a two star rating is for cleanliness. The staff on the other hand is rude and the aquatics department in particular, especially an employee named Elizabeth, has yelled at me and my autistic nephew and niece to the point of ignorance. I was very disappointed with the treatment of my family at the Plainfield YMCA during a recent visit. We are a military family stationed in San Antonio and weβre visiting our family in the Joliet IL area and since we have nationwide membership decided to visit this facility. The first day we went, the two people at the desk were busy with other members so we scanned our ids and the young man at the front desk waved us along so we thought that was all we had to do. We had checked online and it said when visiting another ymca, we would have to sign a waiver but we thought since weβd been waved in and the ids were scanned we were covered. We walked around, touring the facility on our own and saW the child watch room had tubes and tunnels and slides to climb. We thought this would be excellent for our little ones to burn off energy during our winter visit so two days later, we returned with our daughters, scanned our ids as last time and went to the child watch. We told them we were visiting and they said our kids couldnβt be watched by their staff as that is their policy. I mentioned the waiver they had never presented to us and they said they still could not take our children. Our kids at this point were in tears because they could not understand why they werenβt being allowed to participate. We then explained we were a military family visiting to the front desk and they said the same yet could not provide us with a written policy. They then called their director Lisa who approved the use of the child watch. So what is the policy when visiting another ymca? We have visited other Ymcas throughout San Antonio and never had an issue using the child watch. Also when stationed in Ohio, when touring the Ymcas before joining, our children were allowed to go to child watch. Weβve also been to other IL and Ohio Ymcas and have never encountered this. We understand liability and will gladly sign a waiver, also if this is the policy then fine we will follow it, but I could not find anything stating that nationwide membership did not include the child watch amenity. Then the third time we visited the Plainfield ymca, we scanned our ids as we had the last two times and this time the front desk staff stopped us and asked if we were nationwide members since our ids hadnβt worked even though they scanned an error message appeared. They then said we had to sign a waiver and questioned us having used the facility prior. Lisa the director was right next to the young lady attending to us and said she did not remember us, except she did not tell us directly she spoke to the young lady helping us. It seemed as though she was insinuating we were lying about having been there since we had not signed a waiver. It is not our fault that her staff did not follow protocol and allowed us to use the facility even though an error message had appeared or the second time they didnβt make us sign a waiver and just gave us a verbal approval. While all this was upsetting, what was the worst was that after knowing we were a military family, not one employee thanked us or my husband for his service and we were treated poorly, pretty much penalized for serving our country and not being a local facility member (their unclear policies were always for facility members- which due to being stationed elsewhere with the military we could not be even if we wanted to). YMCA is supposed to be family friendly and it felt as though it was not, it was not military family friendly and I hope that the nationwide membership policies can be clear and accessible in the future. We do not recommend the C. W. Avery YMCA in Plainfield, IL and will be letting our family, friends, and fellow military families and veterans know, as well as the YMCAβs Joliet regional and corporate offices.

This is the third year my granddaughter has attended the YMCA day camp! I am thrilled with the program they offer. The swim lessons are amazing, the field trips were so enjoyable. I loved my morning greeting from Andrew and Alyssa they were like a little bit of sunshine to start my day! Great staff!

I have had mostly good experiences but couldn't get a reasonable answer why spectators for kids soccer can't sit on the parking lot side of the field. Watched the "ref" move elderly people from the shade to sit facing the sun. I just can't make sense of it.
