Speaking for both of us, my best girl and I, all of our experiences at Embody have been outstanding. We go together, "Duets" as they are called. Our sessions are made for us by either Sarah or Madeline -- things we can do with some challenges thrown in. We are no longer young, so workouts are tailored to our needs.

Sarah has been such a great mentor and instructor towards me during my process of my teacher training for EYT at her studio. She gave so much support and advice when needed and I always appreciate how much she’s helped me. She has loyal and friendly clients that I loved working with while I practiced teaching for my Reformer/Mat certification. Her studio has a variety of equipment that many studios don’t have and it’s very nice & clean. I definitely recommend checking her studio and taking Pilates classes over there! :)

Highly recommend these teachers and their expertise, especially if you're working through healing from injuries or chronic health issues.

I came to Embody as a last gasp at managing joint pain, back pain, poor posture and increasing weakness. After seeing specialists, trying to trouble shoot on my own, scans and PT, I realized I needed an ongoing solution and guidance.
I reached out and spoke with Sarah who scheduled my first visits doing one on one sessions with Madeline, and her attention to alignment and body position was appreciated. She answered all of my questions and guided me through personalized workouts. I started feeling my joints strengthen and noticed odd movement accommodations I didn’t realize I had been making from old knee and ankle injuries gradually disappear. All of a sudden squatting and getting up was easier, my posture improved, less migraines, sleep was better and I wasn’t waking up in as much pain.
I started adding weekly group classes, and even though there were 4 of us, I still felt I was getting individual guidance and adjustments to ensure I was doing movements correctly and to their best benefit. Studio and other classmates are all kind and welcoming. Environment is supportive and encouraging.
Embody Pilates has become a staple in my overall health and wellness. Sarah, Madeline and Kevin have all been wonderful to work with.

When I decided to try pilates with Sarah at Embody Movement two years ago, I had no idea what a difference it would make in my life! After years of pain and frustration because nothing I tried was working, I knew immediately that I had finally found help.
Sarah has an amazing understanding of how the body works and of how pilates works with the body. She correctly assessed exactly what I needed. I learned the importance of correct breathing, a strong core, proper form and using only the muscles required for any movement.
By focusing on these each session, before long I was seeing significant results. Friends and family were even commenting that I looked taller!
The strength I gained proved invaluable when I had hip replacement last year. My doctor was amazed at my quick recovery and discharged me from PT sessions early!! I knew Sarah’s expertise and our work together was really paying off.
I highly recommend Embody Movement Pilates if you are considering joining a pilates studio!

I started my Pilates journey with Sarah about 12 weeks ago. I can't say enough about how wonderful the experience has been. I suffer with a few injuries and Sarah is always catering the session to help strengthen those areas or relieve pain if needed. I appreciate the detail and education that comes with each session. Highly recommend!

My journey to Pilates began with my wife. I have always maintained a workout routine. But over the years, I’ve grown increasingly concerned about my attention to core and abdominals. My wife began working with Sarah at Embody Movement and was seeing significant improvements. More importantly, Sarah helped her to understand ways in which she was working against herself. Sarah has a terrific sense of movement, a deep knowledge of the body, and an ability to focus in on ways to improve the effectiveness of the time you spend working out. Her skills at using analogy to help you understand is terrific. Nobody does it alone, and Sarah is a terrific partner on your journey to a stronger you.

A little more than a year ago, I was at a low point. My poor physical condition was keeping me from doing the things I love to do. Even walking or standing for any length of time had become difficult. The thought of going to a gym or big club was intimidating and I didn’t have the knowledge or self-discipline to really do anything effectively on my own. A family member suggested I try Pilates. I found Embody Movement Pilates Studio (EMPS) and started taking private sessions with Sarah. She made me feel very comfortable and was so encouraging. Before I knew it, I was getting stronger, more flexible and feeling better. I’ve learned so much, not just about Pilates, but body awareness in general – like how feet affect balance… who knew?! Sarah has a wealth of knowledge and has been so patient helping me address my various issues (posture, balance, bad knees, etc.). As I’ve gotten stronger and more capable, Sarah has modified and fine-tuned the exercises to help me continue my growth. I truly believe Pilates has something to offer for everyone, at any level of fitness – from athletes to those like me, who spent too many years sedentary, sitting at a desk. Now, a year+ into it, I feel better than I have in years, and I’m able to do the things that I love again. I even look forward to going to my sessions! Pilates and my experience at EMPS, has been truly lifechanging.

Three years ago I had a serious back injury and while physical therapy helped tremendously, after 7 months my medical coverage for PT ran out. I was in need of something to continue my recovery and the therapist agreed that Pilates would be a good choice. I signed up for a private consultation package at Embody Movement and was impressed with how careful they were about protecting my injury while continuing to strengthen the surrounding muscles. I joined a Reformer group class 2 years ago and even though there are 2 or 3 other students in the class, the instructor (Kevin) is careful of, and works around each student's physical concerns. Over time I noticed a significant strengthening of my body overall, improving my posture, my balance, and my lung capacity -- seriously, my asthma doctor measured a 10% increase in my lung capacity since starting Pilates! I feel safe exercising in an environment where the instructor closely monitors each student and and have realized this is one of the best things I can do for my physical well-being. There's a good rapport with the instructor and the other students, and I look forward to class each week. Everyone at Embody Movement is really nice and Sarah (the owner) is not only an excellent instructor but a great business person. I'm committed to making this a life-long practice!

Sarah is an excellent Pilates instructor, has a beautiful studio and offers a variety of very interesting classes. I have attended the Melt Method and the OOV classes and found both to be very informative. As a physical therapist, I really appreciated her attention to detail when instructing exercises and she has a very good grasp of the human anatomy. I highly recommend her studio.

I recently participated in the 6 week MELT class for the hydration of the fascia. It really helps with flexibility and pain management of my Fibromyalgia. Sarah is an AWESOME instructor. The small student to teacher ratio allowed for lots of personal instruction. This is not your typical exercise class. All the movements are slow and so deceptively simple anyone can do this. And it will remove your pain and stress from the very first session. I highly recommend this class.

When I started training for my first Chicago Marathon last summer, my mom immediately suggested that I start Pilates as my cross-training. I'd never done Pilates before, but after my first session with Sarah at Embody Movement, I was hooked! I completely owe my injury-free training season to Sarah. Her ability to identify areas of concern and personalize each session not only gave me the strength and flexibility I needed with the amount of running I was doing, but also increased my own body awareness to a degree I hadn't known was possible. So it was no question that when I decided to run marathon #2 this summer, I would start training with Sarah again. And again, I owe another injury-free running season to working with Sarah. As with last year, Sarah helped me with core and hip strength, flexibility, and overall body awareness. But this time around, Sarah added something new to my training that I would be remiss not to mention: MELT. If you haven't tried it, you need to. I admit I was a bit skeptical at first -- I questioned whether the small, often subtle movements would really decrease my stress and tension and help with hydration and injury prevention the way Sarah explained (so eloquently and in a way I could understand, of course!). But as always, with Sarah's help, I noticed incredible improvements with MELT. A huge part of the method is body awareness and self-assessment, and Sarah helped guide me through assessing what part of my body to work on each week: feet, neck, calves, upper body... pretty much anything that was tight or tense could be improved by "MELTing" the first ten minutes of each session. Sarah got me so hooked that I got my own MELT roller and now use it almost every day. I cannot tell you what a difference it has made, not just in my running, but in my daily life. I work as an editor at a desk 8 hours a day, and MELT helps release that tension that builds in all of our bodies sitting for that long. I really can't say enough good things about Sarah and Embody Movement. Sarah has so much knowledge about the human body, but she's able to explain things in a way that makes sense. I HIGHLY recommend Sarah, Embody Movement Pilates, and MELT to anyone!!

Five years ago I politely declined a Lumbar Laminectomy with Fusion. Three years ago my physical therapist told me to call Sarah at Embody Movement and start Pilates. I replied that I could take Pilates at my local gym and she repeated...Call Sarah! Best advice I've ever gotten! For the first time in three years I took a walk that was pain free! I made her pilates classes a priority in my schedule, and Sarah and Becky made my health and well being a priority as well! They were very consistent at teaching, cuing and correcting as I learned, healed and strengthened. As a former runner I was surprised to learn that you can have a hard, sweaty workout without the high impact, jarring classes that I had to give up. I am having fun as I gain core strength, flexibility and continue to learn new things in every class! Thanks Sarah & Becky!

Okay I will be the first one to admit that I do not like exercise of any kind. However, back and stress issues and the persistent recommendation of my doctor to find and stay with some sort of activity, led me to try pilates at Embody Movement Pilates. Becky is the instructor for the group reformer pilates class that I take. Two words - LOVE IT! I actually look forward to going. The class size is small, the instructor Becky is actively engaged in making sure that you are doing it right, and understands how to modify the moves if you need an accommodation. My stress level has started to lessen as well. If you are a beginner, don't hesitate to take a pilates class at Embody Movement Pilates Studio. I wish I had started sooner.

I have been dealing with a very stiff neck and shoulders for several months. Sometimes the pain is enough to make me not want to go to class, but every time I go, I leave feeling so much better. And it’s not just because I worked out, it’s because the workout loosened me up; I wish I could have class everyday.

I have been training at Embody Movement Pilates for over a year and a half. I wanted to do a work out that was gentle on my joints and body and yet effective. I've seen great improvement in my posture, my strength, and especially core strength. I'm enrolled in a small reformer class so our instructor, Sarah, is able to give each one of us a lot of attention. There are people in my class, including me, who have different joint issues. However, Sarah is a wonderful technician and tailors each movement to any particular issues. She exhibits a profound knowledge of Pilates. I also find the class a mental vacation from the stresses of work! I've taken a few classes from Becky and she, too, is marvelous. I highly recommend this studio to anyone interested in improving their strength and flexibility.

I've been exercising since I was 15 years old. I am now a 50 year old male and thought I was in pretty good physical condition until my back went out. I spent 8 weeks in physical therapy and still could not relieve the back pain. Finally, I signed up with Sarah de Guia for a package of Pilates lessons. Almost immediately I began to feel better and see results. Sarah's training and experience is as impressive as anyone i've known in the health and fitness field. She has over 500 hours of training and is someone who constantly stays educated with the latest body movement concepts. Every training session is tailored to address my weaknesses or needs. I beleive the philosopy used in the studio can benefit anyone but especially men in my age group who have some type of cronic issue like a back, hip or neck problem. These are pains we just think become part of daily lives. Sarah has helped me "reclaim" my body movement. In fact, I cannot wait to start playing golf and running again this summer with the new range and flexibility I have.
Thank you Sarah,

I've been taking Pilates with Sarah at Embody Movement Pilates since 2009. Wow! And I can't even imagine life without it!
Since I'm now in my 60s, there are a lot of body changes that seem to be happening .... bone on bone knees, sore hips, less flexibility. Sarah creates a Pilates routine to address my specific concerns. And while she gets me to focus on my core always, when golf season rolls around we amp up the focus on rotation and work on the pieces that make for a good golf swing. I tend to work at a desk and get hunched and tight. I have never left the studio without a wonderful sense of being 'stretched out.' I always feel about 2" taller when I walk out than when I walked in! She has really helped me with awareness of my posture, my flexibility and balance.
Sarah is a great listener and has much empathy for her students. She's a continual student herself. Her interest and knowledge about anatomy always amaze me. I appreciate that she uses it to consider my body as a whole. She's helped me understand more about how seemingly unrelated body parts can affect knee pain - and how specific exercises can help ease that pain.
I would definitely recommend Embody Movement Pilates Studio - they're a dedicated studio that has been around for quite a while. They offer workshops and classes so there's a form of Pilates for everyone.
