I made an appointment to tour the gym and have a free workout. Got there and was given the tour, but was not allowed to workout, despite what it said on their website when I signed up for the tour and free pass. What a waste of time. FYI, if you join, you have to sign a 12-month agreement.

Overall Equinox is very nice and not too crowed. However, it is not a good value. Machines are are old and limited to just two brands. They had a PowerPlate and never replaced it. Prices go up and amenities go down. At this price point get some hairspray, deodorant, a clothes steamer, and nice blow dryers.

Equinox Lincoln Park takes full advantage of being the only decent gym in the nearby area since they know the LA Fitness a block away is a dump. As a result, they charge insane membership fees for being a slightly above average gym. They often have the same repeat issues: No hot water, broken air conditioning, buckets catching water from the ceiling, and functioning but slightly damaged equipment. It’s still a decent gym, but it’s no where in the realm of being worth $200+ a month for just this one club.

You're never going to get in shape going here. The personal trainers need personal trainers. Just look at them are these people you want to look like? There are minimal squat racks, a bunch of equipment in places that doesn't make sense but endless bosu balls and other overhyped nonsense like that. Cardio equipment is Life Fitness garbage — not upgraded like some of the better clubs in New York or Miami. Most of the members are unimpressive. If choosing clubs in Chicago, Lincoln Common is better. Only thing going for this EQX is the sled and turf, which were thrown in as an after thought. LA Fitness across has a better set up for crying out loud and that place is well LA Fitness.

Temperature inside this gym is pretty consistently between high 70s to low 80s degrees in the summer making for a very uncomfortable workout.

Spent $40 at their smoothie bar (including a nice tip) and then was denied from using the bathroom (which is visible from the entrance). Pretty ridiculous.

This place is a JOKE. For the prices they charge for the location only BUT extremely run down building interiors. It makes zero sense for them to be charging soo much when someone can obviously just get their membership at the Lincoln commons location newly built - and exquisite in interiors.
The walls are dirty with stains that are permanent. The new Grown Alchemist shower products are very weak in efficacy. I would double wash my hair and still the next day my scalp and hair were oily and unclean.
The body wash no matter how much u scrub, you're still feeling itchy and dirty and oily. Zero disinfecting, sanitizing effectiveness, and note I was not even a heavy sweater. I can't even imagine what it's like for those coming out of extreme sweating classes or even extreme heavy duty personal workouts or those with natural excess sweating biologically.
To me it is mind boggling how executives for a GYM made the decision for shower hygiene products that are not effective at all. NOTE - I AM NOT EVEN A HEAVY SWEATER
Meanwhile the spa is soo run down with interiors of wallpaper peeling off, old furniture, oil stained bedsheets, extremely rough spa towels, outdated decor all the while....... charging extremely high prices. I understand the location of Lincoln park being expensive but even the near by spas in the same location are not as high priced.
Simultaneously you pay a heavy monthly membership fee only to realize that the spa located inside the gym as a part of the whole package of a club only to realize their is no members discounted prices exclusively for members. It's a business within a business, just not officially like the smoothie bar.
Meaning I can bring my friend from out of town to the spa for a spa day, and the same price she pays is the same price I pay for the same service.....despite me being a member of the club paying monthly dues that provides revenue to the business vs. a one time business transaction from someone out of town where no equinox gym exists for them to ever consider becoming a monthly paying member under contract.
Really doesn't make any sense, meanwhile l've heard other gyms provide their members with 1 free spa service every month. Hello...... talk about feeling valued as a loyal paying member! Feels good when such incentives are available to members vs one time non members of the club's amenities.
Meanwhile the high rotation of personal trainers and massage therapists is exhausting, always having to start from the beginning with a new person despite them having access to our appointment history and individual profile. It feels like you're always taking a detour with your wellness. Who knows why this entry/exit of sooo many employees exists at this location, but they were all very nice and exquisite in the work they did - personal trainers, spa providers, front desk, the retail shop and even maintenance.
If you're able to look over everything else for nice, customer service oriented employees on the floor level, Then by all means. Just remember they come and go but each time are still the best.
Can't say that for all the managers though. Some were great, others not so much. The managers were a hit or miss. Rachel gave off unpleasant vibes. I still recall one time I needed to speak with a manager, the front desk was glad to let the manager onsite know, only to come back to let me know she's working out .... okaaaaay . Nice way for management to put members first.
Good luck with this location

Horrible management. Long time member, was moving and needed to cancel. My trainer package renewed for longer than I needed. Spoke to onsite management, they said do not worry, we will refund you. Well, of course they did not refund me. Worked with Rachel, she was rude and condescending. Never again will I go to an equinox. Save your time, go to Midtown or another newer and more accommodating gym.

All the instructors are AMAZING and the staff does an incredible job keeping the locker rooms extremely clean and stocked!!
However, I’m so excited to quit. I wouldn’t join if you want to use for your membership for classes. I’m paying $200 a month just to be a slave to my alarm clock. I’m constantly setting alarms to book classes down to the literal second they open and even then I’ve still not gotten into them. Because of this, extra people show up to the classes hoping to get in and then the class becomes extremely overcrowded and doesn’t start on time. I am so relieved to be done soon.

My husband and I were members at Equinox for a little over a year and only left because we moved out of the city. The equipment is very well maintained and the club is immaculately clean. The staff is always helpful.
I trained weekly with Victor M and would highly recommend him. He was very conscientious and responsive to my particular needs and requests. In addition to our training sessions, Victor created a suggested weekly exercise routine including a list of some workouts that I could do on my own during the week. I will definitely miss him!
Overall our time at Equinox was a great experience!

I've had the pleasure of working with Dave W. as my fitness trainer, and I can't recommend him highly enough. From the outset, Dave demonstrated an incredible depth of knowledge in both fitness programming and nutrition, setting him apart as a true expert in his field. His approach is personalized, insightful, and always focused on my individual goals and needs.
Dave's programs are not just effective; they are also engaging and sustainable. He has a remarkable ability to push you to your limits while ensuring that you're motivated and excited about your fitness journey. His expertise in nutrition has been transformative for me, providing not just a diet plan but a complete lifestyle change that is realistic and tailored to my personal preferences.
What really sets Dave apart is his genuine care for his clients. He goes above and beyond to support, encourage, and inspire. His passion for fitness and nutrition is contagious, and it's clear that he truly wants to see his clients succeed. Thanks to Dave, I've achieved goals I never thought possible, and I've gained a wealth of knowledge that will benefit me for a lifetime.
If you're looking for a trainer who will truly make a difference in your fitness journey, look no further than Dave W. He's not just a trainer; he's a game-changer in the truest sense. Five stars simply aren't enough to capture the positive impact he's had on my life. Thank you, Dave, for everything!

Great club but their locker rooms and workout areas are too small for the number of members they've signed up post covid. Will probably switch to a cheaper option soon if they keep adding new members at the expense of their current members' comfort.

The coaches seem pretty rude- I asked one coach quickly for advice on pull-ups and he seemed like he couldn’t wait to get away from me it seemed (had glasses on) and then another coach (idk names but he had a hate on lol) I was cleaning a machine after using it and out of no where he rudely asked “are you done??” and then
And just kept eye balling me it was odd. I had to tell him a second time he came around the area “I’m wiping the machine down sir…”. Good thing this was my last time here-ALL the people in the front (front desk and smoothie shop) are very nice though- nice facility all and all but I know if I were to come I would ONLY focus on individual workouts

$250 a month. Apparently the problems in NYC are now nationwide. Drove an hour from the Burbs and no hot water. But you can be sure they will raise my monthly next year to justify all the “improvements”.

As a personal trainer, I’m always scoping gyms for potential new clients. So I tried this one out and was turned off completely by the amount of other personal trainers in the gym being so invasive and essentially, annoying to gym goers. Aside dole that- way too overpriced for what’s offered. Not for me

This is my favorite Equinox location in the US. It is never crowded, humble, and has an ice cold shower in the steam room. I have been a member on and off for years, in Chicago and Los Angeles. Although this location is a bit more run down than some of the newer locations, I feel at home here. Lincoln Commons was completely oversold and sucks. Because this location is too far from my current residence, we cancelled our membership. Hope to rejoin in the future if we move closer.

I just joined and this was my favorite location but they recently updated their hours to close at 8 which makes it impossible to get a good workout. They said it was because less people are going due to COVID, but now less people will go as they decreased the hours. For how much they charge I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore. The staff is wonderful though!

The gym is okay and employees are nice for the most part but this gym is absolutely not worth the price. Amenities are extra with no pool, basketball court, racquetball court etc. You're paying almost $200 a month for just the gym floor and machines. Not to mention when you first sign up you'll get hounded by trainers to sign up for their personal fitness classes. I found this to be incredibly annoying. Often awkwardly waiting for you to finish a set to talk to you about becoming a client of theirs.
Overall my experience with the other employees was positive I just don't feel the price makes any sense for what you get. Especially compared to other gyms in the area. I personally signed up out of convenience due to the location. If you're planning on driving here or are close to any other gyms I would pick them over Equinox if I were you.
Also the app sucks and I hated having to check in with it every time.

I went to equinox to sign up for a membership. Jenny, the sales rep who gave me a tour, emailed me the membership agreement. After reading the cancellation policy,I decided not to join. I sent her a email a few hours later letting her know that was not going to join.
I called three times to make sure that they canceled my "membership ". They didn't canceled. They charged me for the following month even though I reached out to Jenny and another manager prior to the 23.
I called their corporate/customer service and was informed that there was no cancellation request for me.
Luckily, I had communicated with Jenny via email and was able to forward those emails to the customer service rep.
Stay away from Equinox!! There are PLENTY of gyms in Chicago/Lincoln Park.
A gym that requires documentation to cancel a membership is SUSPICIOUS.
I can't imagine what happens when someone needs to cancel their membership after being a member for months/years/weeks. I got lucky because I EMAILED her the same day that I wasn't interested in being a member.
Btw, Jenny lied saying that I knew I was going to be charged and my membership had been cancelled even though someone from their customer service said THERE WAS NO CANCELLATION REQUEST.
Stay away!!

So happy to be working with my personal trainer and pilates instructor in the past month 3x a week. I honestly feel a huge difference in my energy level and health in general. If you’re looking for a personal trainer, I highly recommend Mercedez and Stefanie for pilates. The staff at the club are so lovely. I stopped by The Shop all the time to buy workout gear and Ellyse is the sweetest. They also have better deals there than the brand retailer themselves including Lululemon, alo, Dagne Dover, etc you name it.

I am a fan of Equinox in other cities and the new Lincoln Common location, however the Lincoln Park location is poorly run ( management and staff don't know what they're doing) and in need of a total makeover. For the fees they charge you're better off joining a local gym for $25 a month because the LPK Equinox location isn't much better.

Don't join this Gym, its not really worth of the money that you spend for membership fees, let alone year membership. This is a filthy club that has soiled & years old towels , uncleaned bathrooms, dirty sauna and uncleaned steam rooms. The sauna never heats up. Lousy management, no response to resolve the issue I brought to them through emails. They charge differently for different people, take your money elsewhere. Its not worth.

I was skeptical about switching over to Equinox at first based on its price, but after a trial period of using the gym, I really fell in love with it and ended up switching over from FFC! The classes are better than any gym I've tried with a huge selection, quality instruction, and they fill the classes so there's plenty of energy and enthusiasm! The employees are helpful and friendly. The app has recently been redesigned and is awesome. When you reserve a treadmill or a bike with the app. the workout is automatically uploaded to your account so you can view stats and workout totals! I do wish that this location had a pool and hot tub, it's unfortunate that it doesn't, but if you get the Chicago Pass, the Lincoln Commons location has a pool within walking distance. Overall I'd highly recommend Equinox, especially if you like taking fitness classes!

Great classes, especially the yoga classes. The facility is very nice and staff are all friendly. If I could just review the facility and staff, this review would receive 5 stars.
However, there's a trend in the reviews about the bad management and cancellation policies and I absolutely agree. I had to cancel my membership due to a move but the process was like pulling teeth. I had to provide proof of address change and apparently a letter with new address is enough but a new building welcome letter and a page from my lease weren't enough. I had to show a *signed* lease and the whole back and forth process over email took over 2 weeks.
Advice to management: outline your policies *clearly*. This whole experience made me feel like I was forging my move.

Not worthy of the Equinox brand name. Staff are nice, management is lousy as noted in other reviews. The gym itself is the same as any other, just with eucalyptus towels and good showers.
My experience: I put a clause in my contract to be on a 3-month paid-trial as I did not want to commit to 12 months. Sales was happy to add that. Management did not honor it when I decided I wanted to leave and it's taken me over a month to get this resolved... It's still not resolved.

One of the most negative experiences I’ve ever had in customer service. My car got a flat on lake shore drive and I pulled off the road across from this business. I walked in and asked the barista at the juice bar if I could use the washroom. He obliged and directed me to walk past the desk and it would be on my right. He was clear I was not a member. As I walked past the desk, a desk agent (Perry) yelled at me and asked me for my name. He then took me to task for walking past him. He was unnecessarily upset and escalated a simple situation. He postured, but eventually allowed me to use the bathroom.
As a customer service professional myself, I found this encounter unacceptable. I manage a hotel and often satisfy requests of non-guests, such as bathroom usage. I understand policy and how things work. I would have preferred the establishment to simply say no, rather than be accosted for needing to use the washroom under duress. I will never enter their club again (refreshing for them I’m sure) and I will discourage my family and friends from renewing their memberships.

They have nice wood lockers for our jackets and purses, shower area, changing room area, two separate types of sinks -- one to wash your hands while the other for brushing your teeth. Way too much money for what you get. Cardio equipment is constantly broke. For the money you spend it should be newer. I spent most of my time reporting broken equipment. It was such a pain.
Management is terrible here and they really don't care about the customer. They only care about signing members and keeping the money rolling in. A complete disconnect, especially the General Managers annoying form emails that are cold and automated. He probably never even reads them or knows there being sent out.
In 13 months this location also went through 4 General Managers which probably led to all the inconsistency. If I could do it over I would have never joined this club and spent my money on something else. In fact, I felt ripped off by Equinox for what I got in return.
On a side note the staff is really nice and work really hard. The trainers, front desk, kids club & locker room attendants are wonderful. If I could write them a separate review I'd give them 5 stars.

Love the gym and its facilities. With that said, I was misled when I needed to cancel my membership and was charged a monthly membership fee, which the gym then refused to refund.
