I’ve seen a decline in the hospitality at this location. The previous management was welcoming and friendly.
The moment I signed up for membership I’ve felt hostility from Ramie. Other members are greeted and I’m completely ignored as I’m entering the gym.

The front desk and housekeeping are truly amazing. They are the true backbones of this facility and under appreciated.

For this reason, I am not interested in continuing my membership. If am going to invest into a luxury gym membership, I expect the hospitality to be top tier especially from the GM.

As I’m walking and talking with a gym partner, Ramie comes out of her office in full view of me purposely almost bumping into me and instead of apologizing just tells me to have a great day. Given the direction that she was coming from, she had full view of me . This felt very intentional and aggressive. I go to the front desk to let her know that that interaction was very rude and it made me uncomfortable She immediately says that I’ve already said I’ve taken many things personal and directs me to go talk to Sharon ( who seemed to not care).
my main issue with this interaction is that I am not entering an establishment to be aggressive towards one to intimidate someone and I expect the same thing. By neither Ramie or sharron was I apologized too. I was just told to have a great day
so be careful if you write a negative review or give feedback about this manager as she will be hostile or might even hit you

After years at FFC, I am done. On October 1st, 2025 at 4:15 pm at FFC South Loop, Fitness Director Ria interrupted my workout to tell me my small magnetic fanny-pack-sized bag (smaller than a water bottle, attaches to equipment so it cannot be tripped over) was not allowed. This same bag had previously been approved by the GM because it was clearly safer than leaving sweatshirts, bottles, headphones, and inhalers scattered across the floor. In fact, I’ve personally seen inhalers broken, headphones kicked, and bottles spilled — all tolerated. But my objectively safer solution? Banned.
In a follow-up phone call with the GM, Ramie Reed, the experience was worse. She was combative, dismissive, and repeatedly interrupted me. Her words: “I’m not here to go back and forth with you. I decide what is ok in my club and a fanny pack is ok. But not anything else.” She admitted the floors are cluttered with member belongings but took no responsibility beyond saying they “need to do a better job.” Not once did she engage in good-faith discussion, show customer service skills, or even attempt to understand why a long-term member was frustrated. The conversation was hostile and condescending — my partner, who overheard, now also wants to cancel our membership.
Policies aside, this is about arrogance and a complete disregard for logic or member experience. If FFC cared about safety, suspending items off the floor should be required, not prohibited. Instead, leadership enforces rules selectively, ignores their own inconsistencies, and treats paying members with contempt.
Loyalty means nothing here. Unless leadership overhauls its approach, I cannot recommend FFC to anyone who values logic, fairness, or basic respect.

Update 10/3/2025: Despite the public response here promising a call from GM Ramie Reed, more than 24 hours have passed with no outreach. I also submitted my concerns through FFC’s corporate “Contact Us” form and have not received any response there either. This lack of follow-up only reinforces what I wrote originally — dismissive at the local level and silent at the corporate level.

Update – October 7, 2025:
After multiple follow-ups across both South Loop and West Loop, not a single FFC manager handled this situation professionally. The South Loop GM was openly combative and dismissive, then told me to contact West Loop since that’s my “home club.” The West Loop GM eventually called days later, equally argumentative, admitting the South Loop GM behaved unprofessionally while defending the same irrational policy. Hours after that, the Member Experience Manager made a single late call and sent a templated “we tried” email. Corporate still hasn’t followed up despite promising to do so days ago.

What started as a reasonable question about a small, safe gym bag has revealed something much worse — a management culture built on arrogance, avoidance, and zero accountability. My partner and I have now cancelled our memberships.

As someone who's frequented about nine gyms across the Loop and South Loop, I decided to take the plunge and spend the extra money on an FFC membership, hoping for a premium experience. Unfortunately, my time here has been largely disappointing, riddled with issues that fall short of what one would expect from a gym costing around $200 a month.

Firstly, the gym's temperature is often uncomfortably warm, particularly in certain areas, which can make workouts less enjoyable. The wear and tear on accessories and machines is often highly visible, suggesting that replacements aren't happening as proactively as they should. In terms of fitness classes, only one of the three instructors I've encountered has been diligent about walking the room, correcting form, and ensuring injury prevention.

However, my biggest frustration by far has been FFC's slow and inadequate communication, and the direct impact it has on member service. A prime example is the revolving door at the entrance. A sign clearly states it's "out of order," yet members are actually required to use the app for entry. This crucial information is never communicated to new members or first-time visitors from other locations. As a new member, I innocently followed someone in and was immediately profiled before even attempting to approach the turnstile. While they did apologize, this entire disheartening incident could have been entirely avoided with clearer communication from the outset.

Another significant issue arose with their personal training services. It took a frustrating two weeks for the gym to connect me with a personal trainer. When I finally got to work out with him, he presented a new member offer for training packages. To my dismay, the gym wouldn't honor the special because I had to commit within 30 days of joining. Despite my complaint that their slow communication had eaten up half of that crucial window, they wouldn't budge, causing me to miss out on the offer.

My final grievance came when I needed to pause my account due to water damage at my home. I was going to be out of town for repairs and requested a pause. Their response? It was "too late" to process before my next payment, which was a full 11 days away. It's truly baffling that 11 days isn't enough lead time to pause an account.

Despite these significant frustrations, the only reason I haven't canceled my membership is Anthony Brown. He is an amazing personal trainer who consistently pushes you, educates you, and shows genuine care and concern. Having worked with six personal trainers over the past five years, I can confidently say he's my favorite. His dedication and expertise are a true asset to FFC.

All the FFC gyms in Chicago were great including this location, which was my home gym. It comes with all the amenities you can find at an Equinox or Lifetime, but for a more reasonable price. Even though the South Loop is smaller, it still has a good selection of equipment and it doesn’t feel too crowded during rush hour.

Been a member at this gym since last summer and I have to say they consistently do their best to take care of members and keep the gym clean. If you're considering Equinox, Lifetime, or another similar chain, try FFC. Shouts out to the South Loop club, specifically. It's always a pleasure coming in for a workout. Jamal is the best, he helped me with the recovery lounge equipment and talked me through how to use it. Very knowledgeable guy and very helpful.

I've been going to FFC South Loop for almost 3 years now, and it's a perfect fit for me: clean, spacious, and quiet during the workday (when I tend to go). I like that people are generally focused on their workouts, but still friendly - if you go at the same time most days, you'll get a nod or a "hi" from the other regulars.

What really keeps me coming back to FFC, though? PT Nazha. If you want a trainer who pays close attention to form, pushes you to work harder than you think you can, and cares deeply about her clients, you should work with Nazha.

I see why this gym is empty at 4:25 pm. Staff is rude and unwelcoming. Vibe is off. Parking is confusing and weird. Came here first time asking to try out the gym for a day. This girl Stephanie says I can’t work out. I can’t experience it before I become a member. I can’t even pay for a day pass. How can you commit and sign a contract to a gym you never experienced? Way better gyms out there.

FFC South Loop has been one of the best gyms I've been a member of in my 15 years of weight lifting. The facilities are modern, clean and well-maintained. I have never encountered any broken equipment, and I'm sure if I did, it would be fixed in a timely manner. The staff is extremely helpful, courteous, friendly and receptive to feedback. I usually workout in the morning or during lunch and I've never seen the gym at full capacity, or had to wait more than a couple minutes for equipment.

I look forward to every session there and highly recommend this gym if you're looking for a health-focused gym in South Loop / the SW side.

The front desk staff is not familiar with anything in the gym. I called before showing up and asked about a day pass and was told I could buy one. I took preworkout at 6 am and arrived and was told they don’t sale guest passes.

I signed up and became a member and was given the opportunity to give a membership to a friend and was told it would have to be in person which I attempted and gave the front desk a staff only to find a men’s bed of the sales team with another customer because the front desk staff did not relay the information.

Please consider getting new front desk staff!!

I became a member at FFC in March of this year. I enrolled in the membership that comes with one massage a month. During my first massage, Huber T., the massage therapist asked me on a date and made comments about my body. This made me feel uncomfortable and I was counting down the seconds for the massage to be over.

After the massage, I contacted the West Loop FFC location and was then redirected to HR, where both me and Huber were interviewed about the situation. Huber still works at FFC as a massage therapist.

I was told by the South Loop manager, my home location, that my membership would be comped and I wouldn't need to pay anything for a few months until I decided if I was comfortable enough to stay at FFC. Fast forward two months, I check my paystubs because I have a discount through my job and the fees come out of my paycheck directly. FFC has taken 171 out of each of my paychecks for the last 2 months, 513 dollars, much higher than what the membership even costs.

So not only am I being overcharged for a membership that I was told would be comped, but while trying to get a refund I am being sent on a wild goose chase and FFC is avoiding giving me a refund of the full amount.

I am unhappy and I was hesitant to write this review, but it seems like the only option at this point. I should not have to beg for a refund, especially when I was told I wouldn't be paying a penny until I made a decision.

I toured this location today and had the absolute pleasure of meeting Stephanie, who gave me a stellar introduction to the club. She was exceedingly friendly and helpful and helped me with a number of membership and location related questions.

I would give 5 stars, but I want prospective members to know that their corporate policy for merchant billing is to designate gym membership dues as "Health Services". This practice is seemingly intentionally designed to avoid credit card fees, the result of which effectively passes on typical business costs to the customer. A more honest and relevant code would be "gym membership" or "fitness center", neither of which FFC considers itself in official transactions. This petty dishonesty deserves illumination. It is an expensive membership, and their corporate office goes out of their way to prevent you from receiving cash back for it from your bank.

I was a member of this gym for three years. Staff and facilities were excellent with plenty of space for lifting at cardio. They validate parking and the garage is right upstairs. This is the first larger gym I have ever belonged to that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I have been so impressed with everything: the cleanliness, the organization, the transparency, the community, staff, trainers, equipment, spa - you name it.

I joined FFC earlier in the year to get in shape for my wedding and holy smokes did they deliver. Major props to Christian for being super motivating and knowledgable. My back looked amazing in my wedding dress.

The machines are always clean and they have a great range of high quality equipment. The locker rooms are so clean and always have great amenities.

I have seen Alyssa for a massage several times, and she is phenomenal, probably the best I've ever seen. Not only is she incredibly kind and thoughtful, but she is so knowledgable and intentional in her massages.

Also, Sherry (the manager) and Matt who helped sign me up are super great and not at all like the painfully aggressive salesman you often meet at the gym.

If you are looking for a gym with flexibility and you're in the neighborhood, I highly recommend FFC South Loop.

I love the FFC chain of fitness centers in the Chicago area. I've gone to several and the experience is always the same... clean very clean, great equipment, amazing staff, and top notch trainers!

FFC South Loop is incredible! It's a friendly environment where the staff makes you feel welcome and they go the extra mile to assist you in any way!

The club is light, bright and easy to navigate. I love how things are alway changing... new classes, new equipment, and from time to time they rearrange the floor! It's always a great experience to workout!

Also, I feel safe as they take the COVID guidelines very serious as you don't see members or staff with their masks down!

My husband and I joined FFC 1 week before stay at home orders were put in place. Our first week experience at the gym confirmed we made the right decision to pay a little bit more and move from Xsport to FFC. When the gym reopened they made sure to follow proper CDC guidelines and also the govenors orders. Our first day back reconfirmed our decision to move gyms. The front desk staff introduced the new safety measures the club was taking and made us feel very comfortable with how they are navigating this pandemic. The gym is very clean, they have extra staff cleaning equipment throughout the day and everyone gets their own cleaning solution they can use to clean their equipment. We love this gym and couldn't be happier with the staff and the management!

I joined FFC about 3 months ago and I’ve nothing but positive things to say about this gym. The staff are great and courteous, the place is super clean and I’ve been working with an outstanding trainer from the time I joined. Devin Hartman is extremely professional, polite and he is really good about trying to understand what your goals are for each workout. I am a very busy person and often times I am very tired by the time I make it to the gym, but Devin is extremely good about sensing what your energy levels are that day and giving you a workout that will be challenging but still fun. Above all he wants you to stay motivated and enjoy every step of your fitness journey. I highly recommend him!!! Trust me, he will make you work hard but you’ll start seeing results super fast and that will only keep you encouraged!

I am a beginners level weight lifter who decided to try out FFC South Loop's Personal Training service in order to get a solid jump start. I happened to choose Devin Hartman as my trainer and words really cannot describe how happy I am with my decision. Over the last 3 months, Devin has not only helped me with building an effective workout and dietary nutrition plan, motivation to get the most out of every workout and anatomy education in regards to the detailed benefits of each and every workout... but he has done it all with a charismatic and uplifting personality. Devin helped me actually start LOOKING FORWARD to hitting the gym (which was no small feat) and he effectively removed the mystery and uncertainty that was attached to the idea of working out by simplifying his approach and tailoring a workout plan specifically for my body type and experience level. And most importantly... HE PRODUCED RESULTS! I am already getting bigger, stronger and more defined. Devin clearly has a passion for fitness and helping others achieve their goals. I HIGHLY recommend him to ANYONE looking to change their body. You will not be disappointed. The rest of the FFC staff is great as well!

I joined FFC South Loop about a month ago when I moved to Chicago. I joined the gym so I could lose weight and gain muscle mass.
In order for me to achieve these goals, I signed up to work out with a personal trainer twice a week.
I started personal training with Devin Hartman my first week at the gym. I can already tell that I am slimming down and becoming stronger!

Devin has been a great trainer to work with. He is on time and always happy when I show up for my sessions.
I like that Devin is able to keep me motivated during the hour long session.
He is consistently changing up my workouts with new exercises, throwing out inspirational quotes when we train (especially when I start to complain and get tired), and he also makes sure that I am pushing myself every day I am in the gym working out without him. When I am at the gym training without Devin, I have a personalized plan to reference that Devin created just for me. This plan is awesome! It explains what I need to do and it even includes pictures to show me how to do the exercises.
Devin also holds me accountable by having me track my food calories every day.
Overall training with Devin has been great and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to start training with a personal trainer.

The personal training has been my favorite aspect so far. I’ve been working with Brad Parks a few weeks now and truly feel the investment that he has in helpin me to reach my fitness goals.

Been a member for six years. It's overcrowded almost all the time, mostly with multiple trainers taking over every area. Group fitness classes are hit or miss. They schedule a lot of things at inconvenient times for people who work. The locker rooms were recently remodeled but I'm not sure what was done. There is only one hand dryer for at least 5 sinks and they don't provide paper towels. The manager is responsive and nice but nothing really changes for the better. Now they have put heart rate screens all over the club, including classrooms. They are distracting and run the same ads over and over and over. A trip here is anything but relaxing.

I joined FFC because my favorite trainer in the world, Devin Hartman, recently started working here. I have been training with Devin for 4 months. I seriously can't recommend him enough. I have lost over 20 pounds and gained so much more from my time with Devin. He pushes you and challenges you all while making the workout fun. If you are on a journey to get healthy, gain some muscle or looking for a change in your normal workout routine, don't look any farther, Devin is the absolute best personal trainer!

The gym is great too! It's clean, has all the equipment you need for a successful workout and a friendly staff! My daughter especially loves the childcare at South Loop location.

Large gym with several machines and weights. Interesting that they have a children's area as well. Not as clean as the Gold Coast location, but seems decent enough. It's right next to the El so is a convenient location. Advice for joining: based on the negative reviews about pushy sales tactics, you should join at another location because I don't think they all operate that way. And then after you join elsewhere in a more pleasant environment, go to this gym if it's more convenient for you.

Membership staff tends to feel like I'm talking to a used car dealership salesman; up-selling with a hint of smoke and mirrors. A lot of features in this car, but you can't just buy the standard. For the minimal price, you will not feel like you are getting the maximum return at this Southloop FFC location. But regardless of the negative reviews, they have an amazing location with only one real competitor within walking distance.

This gym is the horror story you hear your friends talk about. The staff is pushy to try to make a sale. They will call and harass you over and over again even after you ask them to stop. Won't give you prices until you sign paperwork. The worst part is that it is VERY expensive here compared to other gyms in the area. If you are going to pay more you should get more. Unfortunately not. Stay away from this place if possible until they fix their practices.

Great place but awkward layout. The machines are spread out awkwardly. Example... chest machines are in the back and up front. Why not just keep them grouped?

Also there is a big wasted area in front, idk why. They can add more fore sure. They need another.

Very clean gym and the staff are nice. Showers are ok nothing fancy like a midtown.

Unfortunately, I found that it was easy to start a membership at FFC, but very difficult to change it. My wife and I were members; I attempted to end my membership after about 18 months, while continuing hers. At first I heard from three successive South Loop employees that I would have to come in because this type of change was too complex to handle over the phone. Since that seemed odd, was not a viable option for me to meet when the right membership employees were present, and definitely was not what the guy who signed us up as members said we would have to do ("just call me" he said; yeah, right), I kept elevating the question. I finally received an email from "billing" with directions that I would have to cancel and my wife would have to establish her own membership. A few days later, she visited the club, heard from an employee that my membership had been cancelled, and provided a new credit card number to bill. However, two days later we received another email that explained that, in fact, her visit (and the South Loop employee's stated understanding at that time) was not good enough, that my wife had just managed to change the account billing, not the account itself. We would have to try again, and apparently select from the inconsistent voices at FFC the correct path to make the very simple change we sought.

It is hard for me to believe that this sort of customer-unfriendly system exists. It seems pervasive in the health club sector, even as it is fading from view in all other areas. Even cell phone companies don't require contracts or onerous hoop-jumping efforts to change the type of service an individual receives. Yet FFC does. Eventually, health clubs will change too. Disappointing that it hasn't happened yet.

Great gym to workout at. Lots of room and machines, and the machine are all in good working order. The staff is very friendly, especially the trainers. Pretty clean too, the staff are constantly wiping down machines.
