Really cool place with a lot to offer. The basketball courts are big, the gym has plenty of space and equipment, and the pool is really nice. It does get packed sometimes, but it’s definitely worth having a membership.

I come just for basketball and lifting. On weekends with open gym, the courts are slippery because no custodians are working, which means that the courts don't get waxed. On weekdays, there's really only one custodian that actually cares about how things are done. If that custodian isn't there, the courts are, once again, slippery, which leads to a player having a hard time running, stopping and just playing basketball in general. They also occasionally close down the gym for gymnastics and other events, which means that the money I give in the form of a membership is actually useless for certain days. If you would like a membership for basketball, just know that you won't be able to play whenever you want to. If I lived closer to another gym that was similar in size to the field house, I would NEVER even consider coming to the field house for ANY reason

Edit: The review was posted over 8 months ago. This edit was made on November 16th, 2025. It’s even worse now. If you want to play basketball and there’s another gym closer to you, preferably one in a better city, save your time and money and just don’t come here. The employees don’t get paid well and the courts are always slippery because they don’t get waxed and cleaned everyday

The place seems to be in a nice rec center. I went there with the intentions on joining, but I have a lot of problems you know. What cold silver and fat silver sneakers? When I find it was able to get there. They were close for 2 weeks for maintenance and cleaning. I haven't been back there, but I'm que sure. I have a good experience there with them.

I've been to several gyms before and this has got to be the smallest, most packed gym I've ever been to, yet it's the most expensive. $57 a month for my wife and I to come here, just for there to only be 3 benches, 3 squat racks, and a few other machines. The free weights are taken most of the time, and even if you get them, there's legit like 2 spots you can actually lift the weights. No room to even use them really. Machines are barely ever open if you come anywhere near it's busy times. They hold a lot of events here, so there's barely ever parking really. I don't use the actual basketball court, but it looks closed off for members when events are being held. I have been thinking of ending my membership lately, and yesterday did it for me when I could enter until I paid my monthly membership with a $5 late fee slapped on it. Turns out, they didn't enroll me to automatic payments like I asked, and they tried to reach out to me on an email that they mispelled by one letter. After I fixed my email, I got an email that I need to verify the one I gave them. So they messed up my email, sent an email verification that never got verified, sent a message to that unverified email that I'm late on payment, and instead of telling me in person or calling my phone number, just waited until my gym card wouldn't let me in. If you work a job with normal hours and expect to just use the weight/cardio equipment, do not come here.

Great building. Free options for Waukegan residence. Well maintained. The vending machines are a joke. They are falling apart. They are not filled and they look awful in this gorgeous modern facility. But even funnier, the vending machine says "healthy vending". I have taken a picture of what they consider healthy. Everything in this building is about getting fit and then they have horrible choices for food snacks. Quite a disconnect.

Had our kids’ 5th birthday at the aquatic center. All the front desk workers are always so friendly and helpful. Staff was very helpful over the phone and by email to arrange the birthday plans. Building is very well kept up and clean. There were basketball tournaments during the day of our party but they had plenty of staff to help regular attendees and all the extra traffic for the tournament.

We came here for a gymnastics meet and there was no room to sit. the convention is small and can’t fit a lot of people. poorly organized and security was rude. you can’t bring food into the area and you can’t see the performance when eating. Another thing is you can’t of to the upstairs viewing areas/ track so less area to watch.

Been coming here since 2015 and it’s always a battle on the weekends to find parking since they cater more to their events instead of members. Some employees need customer service training and for the $12 p/h it definitely shows the quality of employees they hire. This place needs to do better along with hiring staff that is fully trained. When there’s no parking or on the street I have to resort to going to another gym. Oh well…thanks field hous! Steer clear and go to a different gym, this organization is not adapted to todays times especially with appreciating its members.

We took our 3 boys to the pool. The kiddie area was great for my - almost 2 year old. He loved going down the slide. We went into the warm pool (90⁰) when family swim opened up! Price was right for 2 hours of swimming! Locker rooms and changing rooms were clean.

We had the BEST experience having our daughter’s birthday party here at the kiddie pool area. The recreation supervisor Anthony Strack made securing the space a breeze, even accommodating a last minute switch in location. The lifeguards and pool staff were kind, professional, and observant of the kids, which made the water with many kids under 5 feel so safe. The door staff were friendly and quick to get our guests in the door, while maintaining community safety. We loved our experience with the parks district and would host events with them again!

It's more like a jail house recreation center now. I don't know what happened but they are 1 step away from frisking you & having metal detectors. I'm uncomfortable with the amount of staff and the new changes. I use to work at the county jail & this look is way to familiar. IN ADDITION, they have cut amenities, no longer have towels, & they get a part of our tax money right though the park district.

This gym used to be great clean, modern equipment so the employees always kind and helpful as of today it has not changed. But something that is making it be any other gym like the ones in the area unlike the gym that was in the past. Is seeing how people who does not pay membership gets inside just waiting by the main door waiting to get inside by waiving friends whose already are inside to let them in. Same situation and worse the second floor the friends just walk the track and wait for gym employees to walk away and wave some of the friends already inside to let them in totally unfair my husband paying our membership while other just walk inside without paying, unfair for us the members paying our dues and they taking advantage that noboby checks if only members are inside. The right thing should be everyone paying for this service. As previously mentoned employees are great.

Great gym with much to do. They link a lot of activities through the gym so it’s never a boring day including the rock wall which is a blast. My only true disappointments were as a parent because they used to do childcare for a couple hours in the evening so I could work out but it stopped immediately after I signed up. And another thing I loved was the family pool but the schedule is kind of wonky with the different classes. Overall, a great gym and community center.

I love it here. We have been coming for about two months taking classes and using aquatic center. Staff are super friendly. Cleanliness needs to be priority but I clean if I need to to feel more comfortable. It's a huge place and many people coming in and out I get it that it can't be pristine.

I don't leave poor reviews but The FieldHouse is definitely doing some false advertising. Went to sign up as a new member with the bronze membership. The flyer and online said that includes batting cages, asked to use them and front desk said "oh its actually $55 per hour". Front desk told us it was free while signing us up So why is it listed as free, and why didnt you advertise as free? Also, says that you get an orientation with a personal trainer and the front desk asked for someone to come up multile times but they never did. Didn't bother asking about any of the other amenities listed and canceled the membership. They have free walking for waukegan residents but only certain times so that's something.

Many inept young employees as well as silly old senior employees, really poor maintenance amenities break down whether it's the sauna or the steam room all of which needs a deep cleaning the showers are in lamentable shape and barely kept up with chewing gum in one particular shower stall on the weight resistance side regularly gets placed by some disgusting member and stays there for days before it is removed from the soap dish as a facility it has tremendous potential

Let’s start off by saying that I love how clean this place is. Everyone that works here is super nice and and sweet, the lady that’s at the front desk every morning with long hair it’s very sweet she’s always doing her job and whenever I have a question she always has a answer for me. There’s also Omar, every time he’s at the gym he’s always cheering everyone up giving us motivation. He’s always cleaning even when he’s off the clock. He really does make a difference when he’s there. I’ve been coming here for over a year and I love it.❤️

Lots of things to do, huge gym, several pools, open early morning till 10pm, indoor track mostly for walking, outdoor 3 laps per mile track at times very busy however nice community feeling. I like the lap swimming available almost any time facility is open. Pictures of well organized gymnastics competition.
