Friendly staff, routes are changed every week so there’s variety even if you get bored, climbs for beginners all the way to advanced climbers. They sell liquid death too so they earn 5 stars

Staff was friendly and helped walk my kids through the do's and don'ts of climbing and how to be safe. Facility was clean and plenty of area to climb. My kids were asking to go back the next day.

It's fun for the whole family. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful and they work hard to create a community that is supportive and fun. Outside of just climbing there are
yoga classes, a full suite of workout equipment, and they regularly host social gatherings for members.

Routes are interesting and challenging with a good mix of auto belay and top rope. The areas set aside for lead climbing are intelligently arranged so there is very little competition for routes. The bouldering area seems like it has a high difficulty.

I have nothing but praises for the friendly and helpful staff and the wonderful facilities, but they will cheat you out of your money if you let them. I canceled my membership a week before the end of July when I was moving to Texas. Their system did not process the cancelation. I saw I was charged for August after I had already moved to Texas. I emailed them to let them know that and ask for a refund since I no longer lived in Illinois. I thought 3+ years of being a loyal customer would buy me a little grace. It did not. They responded there was nothing they could do. Companies always have the ability to refund their customers. They just chose not to. I highly recommend this climbing gym, but keep an eye on how and when they charge you. Happy climbing and take care of each other.

UPDATE (response to FA's reponse to my review): Thank you for the "smooth experience" of you essentially stealing $77 from me. You get back what you put out into the world. Try remembering that with the next customer.

I have climbed at gyms in Colorado and British Columbia for years, and I was so relieved to find the quality of lines and challenges that exist at the Peoria site. The supporting crew is magnificent, and I enjoy the fact that the setters are always revising lines for new challenges.

My boyfriend and I were in town for a couple days visiting his family and we both like to climb, so we looked up First Ascent and went for a chill morning sesh. The facility was near the river front area in a cool warehouse district. The staff were friendly and we had the gym almost all to ourselves on a Tuesday morning. Although the bouldering area was on the smaller side, the routes were challenging enough to keep us entertained for about 2 hours. Overall, a good morning and I would go back next time we're in town!

After our first unsuccessful attempt at zip lining, I was advised to bring my son to a place like this to help him build confidence in both the equipment and the environment. I am so glad we took that advice. From the moment we arrived, the staff demonstrated incredible patience and understanding, creating a welcoming atmosphere that immediately put both of us at ease. My son gave it his best shot, but as soon as he sensed any danger, he wanted to stop. While I tried to encourage him to push through his fears, I realize now that I may have pushed him a bit too hard. The staff noticed this right away and stepped in with gentle, supportive intervention that was exactly what we needed in that moment.
Their encouragement was genuine and never felt forced. They validated my son’s feelings, reassured him about the safety of the activity, and gave him the time and space he needed to process his emotions. I truly appreciated that they prioritized his comfort and emotional well-being over simply getting him to participate. As a parent, it can be difficult to know when to push and when to pause, and the staff’s expertise and empathy made all the difference. I can’t express enough how much I appreciated their approach and support-not just for my son, but for me as well. This experience has given us both a positive stepping stone towards building more confidence for future adventures. I highly recommend this place to any parent looking for a supportive, understanding environment for their kids to try something new. We will be back next Sunday!

The staff was very friendly and available for questions. This was my first time there, and the process was so streamlined that I was climbing in no time! Another nice touch was the hand lotion located in the bathrooms. I went to wash the chalk off my hands when I got done climbing, and it was nice to be able to put on lotion right away before my skin dried out too much. I had planned to stop into Upper limits Bloomington on my way from MO to IL but they weren't open until 4 mid week. I stopped in to First Ascent Peoria as it was only slightly out of the way. Good selection of auto belays and good/interesting problems. Good use of space and even with it very hot outside, the interior temperature was good. The lead section looked good as well but since I was solo, I couldn't check it out. As a professor, I was able to use the discount day-pass which is a bonus. I ended my session with a few boulder problems. As an avid climber who has been all over (indoor and out) First Ascent Peoria is a nice addition with everything one might need located in the middle of Illinois.

Brought my three and almost two year old. Amanda was thorough and patient. The space was clean. All of the appropriate precautions were given to me having my one year old there. I had never climbed before so I appreciated being given considerations of what to watch out for to keep them safe. My three year old enjoyed the large climbing walls but excelled the most at the kids wall up front. My one year old enjoyed watching and thought she was pretty cool with her climbing shoes on :) Thank you!! Three year old has already asked to go back.

Absolutely love this gym. We checked out several climbing gyms in a radius around our home, LaSalle-Peru, and we settled on FA for a membership. Excellent, friendly staff; beautiful, brand new equipment; and a clean environment all make for a top-notch experience.

I've yet to run into anyone who was anything less than friendly! If you need a belay or beta, there are always people willing to help!

Edited to add: I forgot to mention how family friendly the gym is. We always have our 9 month old baby with us. She watches us climb, but I have yet to see anyone even giving her a mean look! In fact, most people even comment how cool it is that we bring her. Our big kids (6 and 7) both have a blast and always leave exhausted!

Just finished my son's first climbing class and am extremely pleased! Top notch climbing facility that also sports a variety of fitness equipment typical of a normal gym (cycling, free weights, rowing, etc.) I'm now extremely interested in signing up for myself, since I would be able to climb alone, at any time, either by using the walls equipped with Auto-belay or climbing in the bouldering area. The instructor also said I could hit-up the staff on the floor if I needed assistance, and that they were usually pretty quick to help with belay if the place wasn't too busy.

The facility appears to be very new and modern, but retains much of the character of the original building. You can still see the old industrial doors for loading out the back, the huge structural timbers holding up the enormous steel H-Beams, and even the ivy vines that were growing in what was once the back of the building.

COVID-19 policies require all staff and visitors to wear masks, and I did not see a single person breaking this rule (First place I've been in awhile that strictly enforces the mandate.) They also wipe down their walls and other equipment with sanitizer, which an athletic facility should be doing anyway to prevent spreading around the nastys, but again I've found this commitment to disease prevention to be rare as of late.

(UPDATE) In line with CDC Guidelines, masks are no longer required; however, highly visible placards are placed at the entrance strongly recommending them.

Overall very impressed!

I loved this gym! The routes were very fun and they had a lot to offer. Makayla was the best staff member, absolutely love her (she tried to play Mario music for me). Clean facility, a variety of routes, and friendly staff!

This was my first visit, along with my niece and nephew who were also newbies. It was my daughter’s third visit - she is hooked! It can be intimidating going to a place like this for the first time, but Robert was very welcoming and did an awesome job getting us started. There’s a good balance between safety and having fun. The facility is clean, equipment is in good shape, and it’s a really cool atmosphere all around. I also appreciate the discounts offered for military, first responders, healthcare workers, and teachers. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back!

A great place to be a member. Between the climbing, weight room, and yoga classes, a membership is an incredible value.

I went with a group of friends (mostly first time climbers) for a guided climbing session, and we had a great time. Joe Hoff was our instructor and he was very informative and supportive. We look forward to coming back soon. Thanks Joe!

*Updated after the party*
We had a great birthday party at First Ascent. It was busy, and the staff seemed relaxed and excited even with the active floor. Makala and Jake held top ropes and explained the auto belays. The kids all had fun and are already asking to go back.

I am 40 and overweight so as a new hobby, I chose bouldering because it is like solving a puzzle with your whole body. I recommend it to anyone looking for great indoor fun especially during the winter months. Use the Chalk!

Great staff and will aid you in your journey. They are friendly and encourage you to keep going, even give pointers on technique. As a budding mean old man, this place has my approval.
