We’ve been members of the YMCA for the past four years, and it’s so much more than just a gym. Every member of our family can find an activity that suits them. Huge thanks to Eric Palmblad for being an amazing coach (kids are listening) and a true multitasker!

We had our two kids’ birthday party at the YMCA Metropolitan gym yesterday, and it was absolutely fantastic! The space was clean, spacious, and perfect for energetic kids to run around and play. The staff was incredibly helpful, friendly, and accommodating—they made everything so easy from start to finish.

The gym setup gave us plenty of room for games and activities, and the kids had an amazing time. All the parents were impressed too! We’re so grateful for the great experience and would definitely recommend the YMCA gym to anyone planning a fun, active party. Thank you for helping us create such special memories!

The Foglia YMCA is a clean, well-maintained facility with friendly staff and a strong community atmosphere. However, there’s a recurring issue with timely repairs. The steam room in the men’s locker room has been out of order for over a month, and the sauna was not working during my visit today. While the facility overall is great, there doesn’t seem to be a sense of urgency when it comes to fixing things. A quicker response to maintenance issues would make a big difference.

The price of the family membership went up and our kids have not been able to get in the last few times they tried. What pushed me to post the review was that they require over 1 month notice to cancel. they plan to charge us for another month (about 22 days out) despite the contract we signed states minimum 5 business days notice.

This is a solid Y with friendly helpful staff and a lot great amenities including a sauna and steam room. Peloton equipment with a free basic membership included in the club monthly dues. A large amount of free group classes for all skills and ages. Both aqua and exercise. I see lot of negative comments about the price going up but when I compared it to lifetime. An adult membership is between $99 -129 for the basic package. Foglia is $75. That includes use of the entire facility, pools, pickleball open play, free group classes and child care while you work out. It’s an undervalued gem in my opinion.

Absolutely LOVE this place (except for a couple things, see below). I just joined a few weeks ago and can’t get enough. The machines are top notch and in good condition. I love all the options as you don’t have to ever wait to use the machines. I also love their vibration platform which is a certified medical device. I have severe neuropathy and this is literally the only thing that works to reduce my pain. The sauna and steam room are awesome. I prefer a gym that feels less busy so I hope a bunch of people don’t join now because of this review (haha). The people that are there seem respectful. The one thing I am not sure about yet is the music they play. Most of the time it’s been nice and quiet, but yesterday the gym was BLASTING rock music! I could hear it through my noise-canceling headphones. I hope the gym doesn’t continue to blast music as let’s face it everyone likes to listen to their own stuff. Not everyone likes rock! I’ll probably still go even if they continue to blast music but I really hope it was just a one time fluke and that the gym goes back to playing quiet music.

UPDATED REVIEW 3/2/25:
I am a youth mentor for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program of America (which is for underprivileged youth), and took my little here for one of our scheduled activities. We were simply walking through the fitness center, she was near by side not causing any trouble, and we literally got scolded at by a very rude young white man who seemed to be the fitness attendant on duty.

I understand *now* it’s club rules no one under age 13 in the fitness area, but I did not know that at the time. It was very rude how he treated us, especially since I was there to provide good healthy adult role modeling to a child in need.
Receiving that hostile treatment in front of a 10 year old was unwarranted.

I hope they teach the fitness attendants to treat us members with kindness and empathy, not hostility.

So the price of our family membership went up, but the open swim is not available 3 days during the week because of lifeguard shortage? So why are we paying more for less? I thought the whole point was to be able to use the regular services with the membership you get. They shouldn't have increased the price of they can't maintain regular usage of facilities as part of that membership!!!

I am disappointed with the attitude of the swimming instructor at this facility. My daughter was promoted to the third level and happily attended her first lesson. However, during the lesson, the instructor was demonstrating how to turn her head and applied too much pressure, causing my child to cry. The instructor did not even ask what had happened.

I decided to give the facility another chance and brought my daughter to the next lesson, but the situation repeated itself—again, excessive pressure, tears, and complete indifference from the instructor. She simply turned away and swam off without even attempting to understand what was wrong.

Perhaps this is part of their teaching methodology, but for us, this approach was too harsh. Unfortunately, we decided to discontinue the lessons because we value not only progress in swimming but also our child’s comfort and emotional well-being. I hope the facility takes this aspect into account in the future.

Poor swimming open hours caused by poor management. They claim it is caused by life guard shortage. But, there is no life guard shortage in other Y locations. It's more like cost-cutting or other reasons.

The equipment is fine but the womens locker room is so gross. There's no warm water to shower ...who knows if the shower has shampoo or if it's body wash in there? The steam room is about to break cause it's spewing hot water that burns your skin when you walk by to sit down---- has no hot tub and the locker room seriously needs major cleaning-- it's gross 🤢

Stay away from Foglia YMCA.
On 1/12 the Sunday, when I swam in the pool, I saw a conflict between two young Asian boys (10 years old) their mom, and a couple. The boys came to the pool first and swam in lane 1, the couple joined later, but refused to split the lane. They insisted to do laps or asked the boys to leave for other places. Boys' mom suggested to split the lane since the couple swam faster, but they refused discussion. They sat on lane 1 for a long time and finally YMCA staff involved. Under YMCA staff's suggestion, the man (of the couple) finally changed to another lane and did split swim with another siblings (whose dad was in present).
The story was not ended!
On 1/19, I heard from another parent said that Foglia YMCA is now prohibiting children learning swim from each other. I'd like to ask Mr.Foglia, based on what happened on 1/12, what did the two boys or their mom do wrong? I can feel that the couple was targeting these two young Asian boys because they are from Asia, and they seem like easy to be kicked out.. It is a very typical manner from arrogant jerks. What Foglia YMCA is doing today, is not stepping in with neutral position, but assists like those couples and discriminates its clients.
I'm a third party person who witnessed what happened, and I don't know both sides.

Great swimming area, really the only reason for making this review! We had our fair share of swimming instructors for our 3 kids and by far Ella is the absolute best. I can only speak to the quality of the adult fitness center. The Foglia YMCA pairs a very friendly staff with a clean environment. They have plenty of exercise equipment, most of which is fairly new. The evenings are not crowded. As of November their hours are extended. About 90% of people adhere to masking protocols, the other 10% can't be bothered which is just how it is anymore. The staff does make an effort to enforce masking. Most everyone wipes down equipment after use. Parking is adequate. I highly recommend this community resource: it checks all the boxes.

This gym and it’s environment is NOT a gym suitable for athletes and those who take training seriously. I am a weightlifting athlete and CPT, this gyms policies and execution are just terrible. Today was my last straw with the constant inconsistencies and lack of execution. I go to this gym because it is conveniently located a few minutes from my house, which is the only reason I’d ever attend this gym. Today, A man who I’m assuming is a manager came up in my face and said “hey we need to have a talk” … am I in first grade? I was reprimanded for not wearing shoes and socks for my squats, anyone who Is a well informed athlete would know the benefits of mechanics, technique, and mobility of a squat given almost all shoes narrow the foots natural anatomy. If I was told to wipe the floor after (which was ultimately what was determined after some push back) that would be fine, but I was told A,B,C, and D before reaching that conclusion. It’s about respect and listening before improperly reprimanding, which a young woman doesn’t get in this gym, only older adults, respect is a beautiful thing. This is when the inconsistencies come into play - there was never proper monitoring of mask rules during the height of the pandemic, men harass and bother women all the time (has happened to me way too much) with no reprimanding, and people disrespect the space constantly without backlash. I understand germ concerns with no wearing shoes, but keep that same energy with wiping down machinery which at this gym is few and far between, again even in the height of a pandemic with gyms open. This is a gym for families and those who have more of a casual workout routine. Because from what I’ve seen and been told from peers, the athletes and those who come here seriously get reprimanded most, which is a very flipped approach for a gym. Again it’s about creating a proper environment: equal respect, a clean space, and gym etiquette - all things that are not at all consistent here. My family has been members for at least 15 years, but I constantly am waiting for a solid option to get out of this gym! I come to this gym, take my training seriously, mind my own business, something a lot of members can’t seem to respect and something that I guess causes getting reprimanded improperly.

This YMCA charges a lot for nothing. They close the gyms every week day from 6-8 for children’s basketball practices. They used to have them elsewhere so people can use the facility as they please after work or school, but in order to save money, they don’t consider their members. The treadmills are old and run down and they waste money on machines that no one uses.

Newer squat racks which are nice, solid variety of machines, but the free weight area is pretty cramped. Could maybe use a reevaluation of how they have it set up.

I understand that this is a non-profit but the men's locker room desperately needs a rehab- for example the shower ceiling that looks moldy and shower heads are weak. Ventilation is mediocre in there as well.

The prices are not great- same price for me as LA fitness which is much nicer though does not offer as much family activities as the Y which matters to some.

For what it's worth the staff is pretty awesome and you can tell they work hard!

I have been going here for about a year now and really enjoy this facility. It offers a well-kept, clean pool. Very good-looking and large basketball gym which has 2 full courts. Sauna which is available all hours that the facility is open. Multiple studios for yoga and cardio. And a great weightlifting area filled with an abundance of free weights, 2 cages, and many benches for pressing or other weight lifting exercises. The only negatives about this place are the hours on weekends (6pm close on Saturday, 5pm close on Sunday) and the potholes in the parking lot. Other than that, the staff and facility are awesome and I would 100% recommend it to friends and family.

Been going to several of the YMCAs for the last year based on work. I can only speak and as someone who useds the weights and cardio equipment predominantly. Overall I have to give this YMCA a 3/5.

The staff are very friendly and it's always a pleasure being greeted by and talking with Sue in the late afternoons/early evening at the rear entrance by the locker rooms. So 5/5 for staff.

For equipment and they more and better weight training equipment than Sage and Buhler YMCA. Buhler has better/newer cardio however. The treadmill belts on many of them are lose and would just stop while I was running at a higher speed, causing me to lose my balance and almost fall. It's an issue I've mentioned to staff but doesn't seem to have been fixed. The layout of weight equipment is also not the most pleasant, free weights are clustered in one area, but machines and cable equipment is spread out all over that place, makes it hard to do super sets at time. Ellipticals are also spread out between 3 areas. Could have a better use of equipment layout. 3/5 for equipment and layout.

Here is where I have my biggest gripe. Since I've been going here then men's locker room has some real troublesome items. There are about a dozen ceiling tiles that are either missing or have significant water damage and bowing. The toilets all have to be double flushed to get a fresh bowl, meaning that unless the person double flushed before they left, you get to see someone else's surprise. The showers are also suffering from neglect. The shower heads struggle with water pressure and the showers hardly get warm, they're usually pretty cold. The parking lots are also absolutely terrible. They're plagued with pot holes and cracks. Some of the pot holes have just been filled in with gravel or a cone as a temporary fixed. 2/5 for general upkeep of the facility.

The staff is always friendly. Their pool is very large and fun to play in. Their gym is also very large and has a decent rock climbing wall.

I have loved coming here for years but recently had an incident with the staff trying to get a guest pass for a friend who was thinking about joining and wanted to check out the facility and see how the basketball court was, after being told he needed to be 18 or needed a parents permission to use the facility (which is understandable) we decided to leave not wanting to bother his parents who work during the day, which the staff member in a rude tone called "extremely suspicious"... I was very offended by this comment being a member who pays and am considering ending my membership. I felt attacked and my friend and his family will not be joining either after this unnecessarily rude experience.

Come get strong! One of the best gyms in the area for weightlifting and strength conditioning. Two full racks with deadlift platforms, two full sets of DBs, lots of benches, and LOTS of machines. All kept in very good condition.

Out of the local YMCAs, this one is my favorite. I have not taken any of the classes and only use the equipment. The staff has always been friendly and approachable. It's clean and its very extremely rare to find any equipment in disrepair. The pool has always been clean as well as the locker rooms/showers.. Every public place will always have negatives, here like any gym you will find the occasional user dropping weights (grunt grunt grunt), not clearing off or returning equipment, but this has been my experience with the gyms I've used.

Absolutely love this place. Their workout equipment and their staff is great. If you ever need help in the workout area ask for Chris. He is jacked, easy to connect with, and knows what he's talking about. For lifters of all ages he gives solid advice to help you get your gains. The pool is nice and the basketball courts are almost always available. They have Snyder's of Hanover Honey Mustard and Onion in their vending machines which is a plus. Overall great place

I've been a member at the YMCA since 2005... All the employees are rude now and don't even give you the time of day, closes earlier now. & even some days the whole facility isn't open. Recommend LA Fitness to people who are serious about getting fit/healthy!

Absolutely terrible experience and uneducated staff!
I was extremely disappointed with my recent experience at the Foglia YMCA.
My son wanted to attend a teen pool party as a non-member. I made a phone call to specifically ask if I had to personally be there to register him being that we were no members. I was told no that he would pay $15 to enter.
We were carpooling so my son went with his friend. My son calls and tells me he was not allowed in because I was not there to register him. Terrible experience!!! Educate your staff! You were very good about putting prices on the flier. You could have mentioned required registration.

Great gym and membership benefits, but a little pricey for what you get. Parking usually isn't an issue, which is good.

I live between the Foglia YMCA and the Buehler YMCA, but I frequent Foglia the most. The staff is wonderful, the equipment is in top shape. The pool is great, and the expanded basketball court rocks. My only complaint is the locker rooms. I wish they had carpet & stools like the Buehler YMCA ... the benches at Foglia are not as useful, and the tile floor is always wet & dirty even though maintenance mops it at least twice a day.

In my opinion i thought this Gym was very impressive and the best in the suburban area. The main reason i say this is because my main level of interest is to lift weights and I think their weight room is a fine of the art room and is definitely the best part of the YMCA. So to me, everything was great the couple months I've been there. Another great part is the Locker Room. Speaking as a male, it had great space but the big issue was the size of them. You could only fit your flute in there and that's about it. I've never went swimming there so i can't tell you much about the pool. From reading some comments below, everyone is complaining about the Customer Service. Recently I had a problem with an older gentleman harassing me in the weight room. I told one of the staff members and they quickly came to my defense and made sure everything is okay. So either they cleaned up the staff or the people below me didn't give the gym enough of a chance.
Anyhow, I definitely recommend this gym especially if you love to Lift Weights like I do.
