Ed, over the past two years I've read Ernest Jones' book, Swing the Clubhead and Manuel de la Torre's book, Understanding the Golf Swing. Additionally, I've watched and rewatched all of your YouTube videos with Manuel and Heartland Golf Schools. Finally, I've read through your book, Club-Focused Golf Instruction. I loved the simplicity of this approach but was still getting mixed results.
I felt the only way to master the instruction was to attend your golf school. That's the most bang for my buck that I'll ever get! Your school was the final piece of the puzzle. I learned how to swing the club to the target with consistent, center face contact.
Thanks for making this game so much more fun!

I have played golf off and on for about 30 years, but I have gotten more serious about trying to play well and play more courses in the last few months. I previously resisted formal instruction, mainly because I wanted to figure out a golf swing that made sense to me, a swing that I could take at age 50 and play with for a lifetime. I had taken a look around various sources and sites and found 1001 ways to swing a golf club, but not found a teacher that could teach me a simple, repeatable golf swing for a weekend player. After some research, I hit upon Club Focused Instruction and Ed Lebeau at Heartland Golf Schools, and I decided it was worth the risk of getting on a plane from DC and traveling out to Waterloo, IL to see Ed. Boy, am I happy I took that risk! Ed teaches the golf swing from the bottom up...putting and chipping first. Only when you understand the motion behind those mini-swings and most important, the mental intentionality of how to swing the golf club, do you move to the full swing. On Day 1, within the first hour, you will learn what I believe is the most important skill a golfer can develop, creating and maintaining a correct mental image of the intended golf swing that sends the club to the target. That one skill set me on a new path of learning that should serve me as long as I play the game. Throughout my 3 days of instruction, Ed provided thoughtful, patient, and responsive instruction, with plenty of positive feedback. I also like that he taught with a very clear agenda each day, nothing was a surprise and all of the time we had was used constructively. I will be honest in saying that I was hoping to be able to walk-in and Ed would merely refine my previous approach, but he actually tore my swing down to the studs and rebuilt for me a new swing and best of all, new way of looking at the golf swing. I'm writing this review only 3 days post my experience, and the swing changes I need to implement will take time, but I have nothing but confidence that implementing Ed's teachings will lead me to a low maintenance, consistent golf swing for a lifetime.

Ed leads you through the clarity of the golf swing that you won't find anywhere else. The application of that swing through each club and situation, from the putter to driver. The class is personal and open for great discussions. A great expereince.

Attended Heartland Golf School last weekend, looking for something local, walking in with no particular expectations except that I wanted to improve my golf game and I felt that this 3 day program could help. Well, it more than exceeded my expectations. It provided me with proven framework that I can use to build a solid game with a consistent and repeatable swing regardless of club. I would highly recommend if you are serious about improving your game. As a side note - Ed genuinely cares and will take the necessary time to ensure each person attending understands and can reproduce the concepts he teaches.

Attended course recently and had a great experience. Provided me with the framework on which to build a solid game. As a 90-100 shot player, the emphasis on a consistent repeatable swing and approach to all shots and putting helped a lot.
If you’re looking for a friendly personal logical instructor and techniques you can apply to practice and your rounds, this is for you.
Get ready to improve!

I had the best experience with Ed and Heartland Golf Schools. It was the right mix of class time to understand the "why" behind each of the theories and hands on practice. Ed was a wealth of knowledge and was very good at communicating what you need to do. For me, I was looking for a golf school that provided insights on multiple areas of the game. (Putting, chipping, pitching, as well as off the tee) I'm happy to report that my overall game has improved taking 10 strokes off my game. Thanks Ed!

I attended the Heartland golf school in May 2025 with two of my friends and it was a great experience. For three days we focused on our swing and dealing with varies shots, clubs, and a lot of golf stragegy including course management. After the class, I shot an 86 at the Annbriar golf course, which is a great score for me on a brand new course with plenty of hazards. Since then, I'm back home playing my local course and shot the best round of my life this week, 5 over par with 3 birdies. The mental aspect this course offer is gold and continues to yield dividends; no fance technology needed, just a simple, clear process toward golf. Thanks Ed, we had a great time!

I spent last weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday training and learning how to properly swing my club with Ed. While my brother and father took some more convincing to get where we all ended, we all saw remarkable improvements in our game in terms of accuracy, power, and just understanding the game. Ed completely retuned and reformed each of our swings which was more than we were expecting but welcome by the end of it. I’m newer to the sport but some of what he said reframed everything I had heard and simplified my game to be more consistent. If you are willing to listen and embrace what he is teaching, you will reap the rewards. If you are only looking for feedback on your current swing than you had best look elsewhere

Attending the HGS with Ed LeBeau was an extraordinary experience. We began with the basics of club-focused instruction. Ed is so patient with the participants helping us to understand and practice the skills to be successful. By the end of our sessions, each of us was intrigued by the improvements made. I personally feel I see many benefits in my game as I returned to league play.
I would definitely recommend the Heartland Golf Schools at any level of play and/or age. For me, I’ve said if I’m going to play golf, I want to play as well as possible. Many thanks to Ed for his exceptional teaching skills.

Joan and I just returned from a 3 day golf school at Heartland, having driven from Peoria. I discovered Ed through reading about Manuel de la Torre and watched a few of Ed's instructional videos. We were both extremely pleased about what Ed taught us including explaining the reason and importance of every facet. He also demonstrated what he described. Our session on the last day on and around the practice green and on the range proved that Ed's methods work to produce good results. His methods are simple and logical, just common sense. And we had fun while learning. We are now implementing our specific follow up practice program that he gave us. Ed is a master, equally effective with novices and experienced golfers.

I recently attended the 3-day Heartland Golf School taught by Ed LeBeau, and it was an incredible experience that deepened my love for the game. The program is thoughtfully designed to train the conscious mind so the subconscious can execute with precision and style—a philosophy Ed teaches with unmatched mastery. He is an extraordinary instructor: patient, persistent, and reflective.
This isn’t a typical course where you simply bash golf balls for hours. Instead, it begins with bi-directional dialogue and simple physical exercises to truly understand the swing. From there, you take these learnings to the green, applying them to putting, chipping, and working with irons. The immersive format ensures a seamless continuity in teaching and learning.
The setting at the beautiful Annbriar Golf Course only adds to the experience. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned golfer, this program shows that you’re never too young or too old to learn and improve. Ed LeBeau is truly a gem of a resource in the golfing world.

I have been searching for a repeatable golf swing for over three decades, and found it during Heartland Golf School's three-day program! Such a relief! Ed's teachings and delivery through experiential exercises turned on light bulbs throughout the entire journey, and I am so relieved and liberated now because I enjoy playing golf instead of golf swing.

Ed LeBeau and his Heartland Golf Academy provided me with a new way of looking at a game I've been playing for 60 years. Ed and his mentor, Manuel de la Torre, have developed an approach to the golf swing that simplifies all the swing thoughts to focus on one thing - the visualization of the target and swinging to that target. He explains where the power comes from in the swing, why watching the ball through the swing really isn't the key to hitting it ("even blind golfers can hit the ball"), and how the hands and wrists moving in the swing can detract from that power.
There was a gold mine of informational instruction provided in the three days of classroom and practice range work, but Ed was able to boil it down and summarize the key learning points as we went. Ed's delivery of instruction is, at the same time, intentional, humorous, insightful and helpful. I highly recommend Heartland Golf Academy to anyone interested in learning to improve their golf game. And you just might hear a few good jokes along the way.

Enjoyed the learning experience at Heartland Golf School. Ed LeBeau is a very knowledgeable and effective instructor, providing a great deal of individualized instruction, attention, and feedback. He explained the “Club-Focused” method, resulting in a more simplified and consistent swing. My biggest challenge will be keeping myself from sliding back into bad habits. But with “conscientious practice” the concepts will become permanent. Also, the weather, course, and the clubhouse/restaurant were great!

I wanted to get my wife and I golf lessons and a google search led me to Heartland Golf School, Waterloo, IL. We were not disappointed. We were actually sad it ended.
My wife is a beginner and I am reintroducing myself to the game after a 30 year break. (I am self taught.)
Ed is a true master of his craft. He simplified the basics and taught in a manner that was understandable to beginners. It was an amazing experience. The wife and I discussed daily how much we improved and how far we progressed from day one of the basic putt, to day three, full contact swings with the Driver.
We cannot wait to take the lessons we learned and use them on the golf course. I HIGHLY recommend this school to any beginner in golf or to anyone who wants to "tune in" their swing.
Thank you Heartland Golf School for a new enjoyable hobby that we can use into our retirement.

This was my first experience working with a golf coach, so naturally I expected to be overwhelmed. Needless to say, Ed put those worries to rest within the first few minutes of meeting him.
Ed takes his expertise and makes it digestible regardless of your experience. He takes a very complex and intimidating sport and simplifies so that everyone can consume the information and apply it immediately.
I noticed a tremendous improvement in my approach to the game the first day, and I’ve seen it translate on the range as well as on the course.
I cannot recommend this course enough!

Expectations were exceeded. The knowledge I have gained has helped me not only to play better but to know what is happening when i am not playing well.
As a result of my time at Heartland, my putting went from average to exceptional and my iron play increased such that i won two closest to the pin contests in scramble tournaments days after my time at Heartland.
One of the biggest takeaways was learning how clubs are designed to work and using clubs as they are designed to be used will equate to successful results.
I would recommend this school for everyone serious about becoming a better golfer.

I had a great weekend learning how to properly swing a golf club. Ed starts building the swing with the putter and progresses the swing from there. I have been playing golf for many, many years. I have had a few lessons over the years from various professionals. Some of the lessons helped, but the effect of the lessons never lasted, and I have continued to struggle to improve my golf game with no real understanding of how to do that.
Doing a three day golf school with Ed LeBeau at Heartland Golf School was a totally new experience.
Ed is a teacher of the game. He is a highly effective and entertaining communicator, and he is genuinely invested in helping his students achieve an understanding of the game.
Ed's approach is to simplify the game. During the three days, instruction begins with four key concepts, and then moves to incorporating those concepts into putting, and then chipping, and then building on the fundamentals of those strokes to proceed to the full swing with pitching wedge and seven iron, then to driver, and then to bunker play.
The instruction is "club-based" rather than "body-based". Ed's teaching philosophy is the golf club is merely a tool to propel the ball to a target, and with proper instruction in the use of the tool and a proper understanding of swinging to the target and keeping and focusing on that mental image, the game can be simplified.
This was a revelation for me, and it has helped me considerably.
What is more, Ed is such a wonderful teacher and communicator, and was so obviously invested in seeing me (and my two classmates) learn the fundamentals of the game in a whole new way, it resulted in a very pleasurable and beneficial three day experience. (And it is a full six hours of instruction each day.)
I highly recommend Heartland Golf School for players who are beginners, and for players like me who have played for years, but are still searching for a blueprint for their golf game that can serve as the basis for building a practice regime that can lead to real improvement in their game.
I am excited about golf again!

Ed LeBeau has a true passion for golf and, more importantly for a golf instructor, a deep understanding of the golf swing and how to help golfers improve their game. After duffing around for many years and taking a lesson here and there, I finally got serious about improving and went to Heartland Golf School. The promotional verbiage on Heartland's website is spot-on. The game is now so much SIMPLER, and there is a strong correlation between practice and improvement. For the first time, I really understand what I'm setting out to do as a golfer. When I hit poor shots, I can quickly identify the source of my error. Heartland's club-focused instruction is simple yet revolutionary when compared with body-focused instruction. This approach gives you a clear mental picture of the club's motion during a proper golf swing, and the swing is the same for EVERY club. Incredible. Thank you Ed and thank you Heartland!!
