I’ve been working with Ian at i.e Fitness for over 4 years, and I honestly can’t recommend him enough. As a college athlete, I’ve worked with many personal trainers over the years but both Ian and Emily’s knowledge and dedication is above and beyond. Ian tailors each session to fit my needs and never fails to push me to my limits in the most supportive way. I can truly say I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
The gym itself is well equipped, very clean, and is supportive of every kind of fitness goal. Together, both Ian and Emily create an environment that’s motivating and welcoming for not only athletes, but anyone who is looking to improve their fitness. I’m going be very honest here. I used to think I knew it all when it came to strength training. I hit a plateau and for years couldn’t get my mind and self out of it.
I was not able to see the results I wanted. I tried several “shortcuts” with electrical impulse training, extreme cardio, little to no strength, Pilates and many group classes.
My husband was going to Ian for quite some time and really enjoyed his workouts and saw results. I decided to give it a go and try the personal training with his wife, Emily.
And omg. SO GLAD I DID. Love my strength, love my body.
They are a one of a kind power couple.
Not only will you reach your fitness goals, you will gain many insights about life, yourself, people, the world. The comical positive atmosphere is something I look forward to minimally twice a week, and to be very honest, I don’t know where I’d be on my journey if it wasn’t for them.

I've had an incredible experience at this gym, and I can't recommend it enough! The owners, Emily and Ian, are the most knowledgeable, compassionate, and down-to-earth people you'll ever meet. Ian and Emily are AMAZING people. That’s easy enough to say, but let me back it up.
I took the leap and sent an email to them that I had never really lifted weights. I mostly did cardio exercises. Ian responded promptly and set up a phone call to discuss what goes on at their gym. The first personal training session was free so I tried it.
You know that thing that you eat that you can’t put down once you try some. That’s what this was like except way more expensive. It makes you stop and think, but ultimately the question you have to ask yourself is what would you pay to be HEALTHY and HAPPY each week?
Ian works with you to create a workout plan that FITS WHAT YOU WANT including workouts for days when you’re at home or your regular gym. He’s there to give you ADVICE on nutrition and eating/drinking right for your goals. It’s up to you on what you decide to do and he doesn’t care whether you take his advice or not. He’s the same regardless. Scheduling is flexible and is done personally via texts. That’s right, you have contact with Ian even when you’re not working out with him and you have normal conversations. HE'S INVESTING HIS TIME IN MAKING YOU A BETTER PERSON.
From a workout perspective, there are a variety of workouts that you end up doing and they will repeat. You’re there to get progressive gains over time and the only way to do that is to repeat the workouts on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. When you hit a plateau, he’ll change it up and you’ll do different workouts for a little while. At the end of each session is a random 5 minute variety of exercises that are more intense than the rest of the workout. “The Finisher” as Ian calls them. That said, I’ve never left a workout overly sore to the point where I can’t function the next day. As you do more and more workouts and they repeat, you might ask yourself “Why do I still need to come here?” “Couldn’t I do this myself now?”
IT'S NOT JUST A WORKOUT. It’s life, and that’s one of the best parts is the conversations with Ian about anything and everything. Ian has been one of the most influential people in my life. This comes from discussions about future life goals, careers, philosophical questions, book recommendations, etc. The monumental change he’s made in my life from a mental perspective is something he probably doesn’t realize and something I don't know that I can ever overstate. I don’t know that everyone can expect that, but I do know that you can expect the workout you have at i.e. Fitness to be one of the highlights of your week. As I mentioned before he’s invested his time in making you a better person and he will push you to be better. He will give you that motivation to try harder when you don’t want to or think that you can’t do something. He will push you to your limits, but not push you over them.
I know what you're thinking. What about Emily? While I've never worked out with her, I've been lucky enough to be at the gym when she's working out with someone or just stopping by the gym. She's a nice person who brings an energetic atmosphere to the gym with a bubbly personality albeit terrible taste in music :). It is thanks to her I have never been more nervous to lose to a six year old kid and I'm pretty sure she's the reason Ian is so great.
If you've gotten this far, my RECOMMENDATION to you is to TAKE THAT FIRST FREE SESSION and then decide for yourself what you think is the best thing for you in your life.

If you're looking for a great workout class, look no further than IE Fitness. I've been going there for almost a year and love it. Ian, the trainer, is fantastic. He knows how to design workouts that are fun, challenging, and effective. He always varies the exercises and routines to keep you interested and motivated. He also pays attention to your form and technique, and gives you helpful feedback and tips. The class is small (usually under 5 people), so you get personalized attention and support. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive, and I have made some great friends there while working out. I highly recommend IE Fitness to anyone who wants to get fit and have fun. I have tried other gyms and private workouts before, but none of them compare to IE Fitness in terms of quality and the value. I have also tried other bootcamp classes before, but I didn't like how crowded and impersonal they were. IE Fitness is different, and definitely the best workout class I have joined.

Ian is one of the best trainers I’ve ever worked with. If you have been injured at work or playing your favorite game and you want to be back to living normally, this is the place to go.
not only is Ian knowledgeable and smart, but he’s also passionate and patient. He knows when to push you and when to pull back. he implements the knowledge he has in a very systematic and experienced way. During my training journey with him, he’s answered more questions than an orthopedic or a physical therapist would.
I know that his wife is a great trainer, and my wife speaks highly of her.
Highly recommended very affordable easy parking there’s nothing to complain about here.

Both Ian and Emily, the owners of i. e. fitness, can’t be beat for personal training. I highly recommend this small but exceptionally outfitted gym. Ian has been getting me in shape over the past few years, and helped me lose more than 20 pounds in the process. Previously, I was a high school and college athlete who was always in great shape until life happened…. Despite playing paddle a few times every week, I decided I needed some strength training to help me step up my game. Now I’m stronger, more flexible and in the best shape in over a decade! This is a special place! I’ve patronized a number of health clubs, group fitness studios and even personal trainers over the years and none of them stuck. Emily and Ian are warm, professional, supportive, smart and creative. They start as trainers and quickly become friends and partners in your fitness journey. A little back story—I was the girl in High School who would intentionally forget her gym clothes because I hated “working out” or doing anything physical. Since High School I have joined gyms to “workout” would start going and then just stop—wasted money on personal trainers to just make excuse after excuse of why I can’t continue to go.

I want to share my experience with i.e. Fitness in case others are looking for the same thing I was/am.
I'd been home for quite some years having babies and not prioritizing myself. I finally got it in me to make getting myself back to healthy a priority. The day I walked in the door I knew I found what I was looking for.
Ian spent an hour talking to me about my situation and we scheduled a FREE session so I could decide if I wanted to continue. I loved the small atmosphere and the option of working out one-on-one or in a small class. Ian is very knowledgeable and a no nonsense type of person about setting goals and achieving them. A major benefit for me is the flexibility, both with not having to be in a contract and with scheduling and rescheduling. It's not only helpful physically but it's sometimes like a therapy session with a life coach. haha Our sessions go quickly because although it's challenging I truly enjoy my time there.
I've done regular gyms, personal trainers in regular gyms, and group fitness. This, by far, has been my favorite.

I first contacted Ian at IE fitness for my son. He had suffered a fractured tibia and needed surgery. This coupled with two years of Covid related non- sports left my kid in need of some training and confidence boosting. I saw a difference in my son's confidence and strength after only a few weeks, so I decided to do something for myself and sign up.

My experience here has been great. They took the time to understand my specific situation and made me feel like I was being listened to.
They push you when it is required, but also make sure the you do not end up injuring yourself. Training sessions are both challenging and fun, and the conversation makes the hour go by quickly.
I have been to other training centers or classes before, but quit because it just felt like it wasn't for me.
Haven't felt that way at i.e. fitness. I look forward to my sessions as both a means for working out and relaxing my mind from the stresses of work.

As I age I find physical limitations in my exercise, and went looking for a geriatric personal trainer. IE Fitness: what a FIND! Did a series of sessions twice a week, alternating between Emily and Ian, which was a great system: each of them has their own style and picks out stuff to work on, that pushes me just enough. I work out at a lot of places and, hands down, the bootcamp classes at i.e. Fitness are my favorite. I love the friendly atmosphere, small class size and challenging workouts. Ian and Emily are wonderful...so down to earth and they really know their stuff. They design different workouts for every class, give everyone personal attention and offer individual adjustments as needed. I always leave feeling strong and energized. My 17-year-old daughter goes to their student athlete classes and she says that the workouts are tough (in a good way) and lots of fun!

I have been exercising at IE Fitness since they opened, and have found Ian and Emily, as well as their facility, to be top-notch. It is immediately clear this gym is a labor of love for the owners, and they really go above and beyond to help every one of their clients achieve success. I am most appreciative of the willingness (and enthusiasm!) Emily and Ian have to understand each client's specific circumstances and goals, then create a plan that is unique to that client. This is not the place to go if you want to be another meathead. (Although, they could probably make you a meathead too.) No, this is a place to go to build a healthy lifestyle and to understand all the things required for your own wellness, including exercise, nutrition, and recovery. And, Emily and Ian are just cool people and you will enjoy conversations with them about things outside of the gym (books, movies, restaurants, etc.) Overall, I cannot recommend IE Fitness enough.

I've been a weight lifter and runner since my teens. But after turning 30, keeping the weight off became much more difficult! I.e. fitness helped change all that. First, they helped me get my diet in check and I've been able to keep off the 15# for over a year. Second, the training is unlike anything I've ever done before and it's done great for my body! I'll never go back to working out and eating like I used to. Ian and Emily are motivating and practice what they preach! Highly recommend this gym!

I have been attending i.e. fitness bootcamp classes on a regular basis for six months and totally love them! Ian and Emily are so friendly and make you feel comfortable immediately. They accommodate different levels of fitness by modifying the exercises. No matter what your level, you can fit in. They are watchful that you are doing the exercises correctly and will work with you to make sure you get it just right. All the people that attend are very friendly and it is a fun environment. Ian and Emily are very encouraging. They will also work with you on nutrition goals. They make working out fun!!

I have been training with Ian and Emily for about two years now. I continue to go back because the results I see there are far better than any other workouts I've done. I am a lifelong sports/workout enthusiast. Athletics, working out, and maintaining a strong, toned functional body are at the top of important things in my life. Yes the people are nice and I've developed relationships there, but it's not why I go back. I've tried about every workout in my day. The best full body/core workout time and time again is at i.e. Fitness. The combination of strength, cardio, core and functional training is outstanding. Every workout is unique and hits every part of my body. Don't be afraid!!!! It has the widest range of ability in group sessions. Ian and Emily do a great job of providing modifications to make exercises both more difficult and easier. If you're looking to change your body, I'd start there.

I have been going to the bootcamp classes at i.e. Fitness with my mom for about 6 months now, the classes and people are awesome!!! There is a good mix of both cardio and stregth exercises. Both Ian and Emily are amazing. They treat you like family and make you feel comfortable from day one!

The classes at i.e. Fitness are great! Always a good mix of strength and cardio, and always different so you don't get bored. Ian and Emily are very positive and supportive of your fitness goals, and the other people in the class are a lot of fun. Fridays are my favorite - some version of a one hour fitness challenge - just you against you.

10/10, A+, 100% this gym rocks. I moved away from Illinois and I.E. Fitness is what I miss most! If you are serious about getting in shape, go see Ian and Emily. You'll work out harder than you ever have in your life if you listen to them, but the results will be real and you'll thank yourself later. Trust me.

It was really difficult for me to work out because I couldn't get motivated and having a gym membership didn't help much either. After joining i.e. Fitness' class over five years ago I have a very different attitude toward exercising. Ian and Emily inspire you to succeed and strive for your goals. Their encouragement, praise & humor creates an atmosphere that motivates you to push yourself to the max. The workout is different every time so you never get bored. I have worked with many trainers at gyms but there are no trainers like Ian & Emily. Thank you!

Wow! If you want a great workout, this is your place. They combine strength training with cardio but it's different everyday so it never gets boring. The owners Ian and Emily are awesome--so friendly and helpful. They really watch to make sure you are performing the workout correctly so you don't get hurt. If group classes aren't your thing, they also do personal training sessions and even have senior training sessions as well.

I started going here about a month ago. I'm down 6 pounds! Emily and Ian are wonderful trainers. Every day is a new workout/new challenge/and fresh. The work out is intense but not overwhelming. I've been to a few gyms and instantly would think "there is no way I can do this" that's not the case here. Everything is scaled up or down depending on your level of fitness. They are very helpful with form and teaching proper form. I would recommend this gym to everyone!

So....working out. Not always easy to stick with. Am I right?!?!
I live in the city and started working in the western suburbs a couple months ago, and my big box, neighborhood gym was becoming harder and harder to get to. Ironic, since it's only a few blocks away from my apartment! I realized I needed a lifestyle change. I needed a gym with small class sizes, convenient early morning or evening class times, workouts that were challenging, and above all great people!
I am SO glad I found i.e. Fitness! Emily and Ian are fantastic - they create challenging workouts and provide modifications for both people who are injured and for those who want to step it up a notch. When I started a couple months ago, I was coming off of physical therapy for a knee injury. Ian and Emily coached me through some modifications early on, but I can honestly say the workouts have rid me of my knee pain! The dynamic, multi-functional exercises have really improved my strength, endurance, and mobility.
In addition, Ian and Emily are helping me with nutrition. I cook a LOT - that's not the problem. It's planning ahead and bringing enough healthy things to work so that I'm not ravenous by the time I come home in the evening that really derails me. Ian and Emily have a no-nonsense approach and it is very refreshing! Instead of "you can't eat that" or "limit yourself to x amount of calories a day," they promote a healthy, realistic lifestyle and provided me with some practical tips that I'm already applying and loving. I'm already feeling more positive about meal planning and I'm excited about how these changes will impact the way I look and more importantly how I feel.
The last thing I want to mention is the great group of humans at i.e. Fitness. The classes are small, and you'll get to know everyone. There's something pretty cool about showing up at 6am to work out and really enjoying yourself and being motivated by those around you! The positive vibes and team atmosphere is a game-changer compared to the big box gym experience in my opinion. My colleagues can definitely tell when I've been to i.e. Fitness before work - I'm definitely more peppy!
Do yourself a favor - if you live or work in the western suburbs, come check out i.e. Fitness.
