I called the night before I went to the gym with me and my friends. I called the night before to ask if we were able to play in open gyms and buy a day pass even if we are 15 and 16 years old. They said on the phone that as long as we are above 11 years old, we can get in by ourselves and didnβt need a parent. Got to the YMCA and they told us that we need a parent to sign the waiver, which is understandable. They need more informed workers that donβt make us have to drive an hour to pick everyone up then go to the gym, just to get turned down, very disappointed.

Terrible service. You pay full price and will not get what you pay for. There are service issues there, never stops. Highly recommend any other ymca. Avoid this one. The staff and management is the issue and what a shame to since they have great equipment and cool stuff. Always adding more. But the staff/ management... NOT worth the shiny new things. Highly recommend going to a different one.

Have had problems over the years, but this one takes the cake. Our school plays volleyball there. Tonight's game had an 7ft 10inch net for the Junior high volleyball. Not even sure you should count a game with a net that's not in regulation size. On the way out I asked and was told by the 3 front desk attendants that the net couldn't be lowered to the height it is suppose to be to be in regulation, because the system it is on, is broken. I asked when they will get it fixed. I was told they have to get a new system. Wow. Doesn't sound like anytime soon! How can they charge full rates and breech contract like that!? The staff was so relaxed about it too. Unreal!!!

THEY NEVER STOPPED CHARGING ME!! I cancelled swim lessons in August 2024 and they continued to charge me every month. I called, emailed, and showed up in person, and was always told either I was cancelled or that someone would call me (no one ever did). After FIVE chargebacks from my bank and BLOCKING them from charging my card, I am still receiving automated calls that my payment has not gone through. When I call I'm told they are working on it. Absolute joke. You can find many other reviews with similar problems, wish I had checked first.

Nothing has changed as far as hiring rude employees. I withdrew my child from childcare. To many problems with staff. And they close super early on the weekends 4 and 5 when they know peoplewant to workout and play basketball. They used covid to change the hours and never changed them back. They also went up on their membership by $20 yet nothing has been updated inthe facility. Example showers, why are we sharing showers with 15 gnats? Why does the shower curtains have rings but not attached to the curtain to close? The classes are good when they're not canceled. So more more with no improvements, except to make a payment but charging more money. disappointed!

I have a few complaints.Firstly, I like to shave at the club.It is very difficult to do so because all the faucets in the sinks are programmed on water safer mode which makes it very difficult to shave.Atleast have 1 or4 faucets on regular mode. Secondly the children are out of control.

We have been members for over a year and we love it here. Our kids take swim lessons (which have been wonderful), they love the kids club play room, which gives us a chance to work out or even take a minute for ourselves. It's been a great place to go expend some energy when the weather isn't great. We even had our daughters 3rd birthday party here and had a great time. The kids had a blast and the adults even commented on great everything was. It reminded me of birthdays when I was a kid. Simple and relaxed. We are making great core memories with our kids at the Y.

Great staff who are very friendly. For the price they offer the best amenities in the area. Pay more elsewhere and get more. They are updating but strength training equipment is not maintained and kept up well. Youth / young men playing basketball often vape in facilities, play loud and vulgar music, and are given not even a wrist slap. The pool availability is not ideal. Still I wouldnβt go to any other local gym for the same level of satisfaction. They just need to keep the C culture in force here as much as nation wide.

This used to be a nice place but they need to update the showers.
It is incredibly dirty in the family showers with so much hair. Their was poop found in one of the menβs lockers.
The pool isnβt really clean and the lifeguard there is a bit intense.
The equipment here is nice but there strict on teens using it. Their is a rock wall but it is not open all the time. Under the rock wall there are some cushions for gymnastics which is a nice touch.
The basketball courts are great along with the small track field installed.
The daycare they provide is nice but is not open all the time.
Overall 3/5 I just think they need to update the shower system so people make less filth.

Do yourself a favor and check out the Y! I honestly cannot overstate how much the membership there has benefited my family.
I watch my 3-year-old son everyday from 2pm onward, after work. They have a kids zone that he now refers to as "going to play with his friends" and without fail, asks for daily. From 5pm-8pm M-TH, he gets to play, I get to workout/have some time by myself to destress from the day.
His social skills continue to improve, he is wonderfully taken care of by the staff at the location and I enjoy the obvious health benefits to both of us, from the increased time spent active.
Very affordable, and since my son is 3, being a member helps reduce the cost of him going to Preschool, there. All-in-all, this location is a clean, well-ran facility that I am very glad to have in my community!

Parents beware: we signed up for what we thought was 3 weeks of swim. When the 3 weeks was up we emailed to cancel. 6 months later found out they were still charging me a monthly fee. When I asked for a refund they then said I had requested to cancel swim but never canceled my participation pass. I'm so confused and so sad. I have long supported local YMCAs. Avoid this one. Our experience with feeling scammed feels a lot like what's in these other reviews. We won't be back.

Stay away. Several other reviews show a similar experience to mine: they will take your money without giving the services promised.
We joined in mid-August and signed up our child for swimming lessons. I was charged for lessons for August and September at that time. Shortly thereafter, they announced the pool would be closed for the entire month of September. No extra notifications were sent out to swimming lesson families about how the pre-payments would be handled. So, I requested a refund for September lessons since the pool will be closed, and I was told it wasn't possible and I could consider the money a "donation" to the YMCA.
WHAT?! Such a scam to charge people for services you can't provide and then refuse a refund! We also canceled our overall membership due to several reasons: horrible experience for child's first swimming lessons, many showers don't work properly in the family locker room (broken lights, broken shower handles, no hot water), communication is horrible and it's hard to get a hold of anyone, and anyone in the building seems to be able to charge your credit card, but no one seems to have the authority to issue a refund.

Joining the Indian Boundary YMCA has been one of the greatest decisions Iβve made growing up in Downers Grove. This place is the definition of community and great people of all ages. Iβve been a member at places like Xsport Fitness before and thereβs not really a feel of comfort and community. Iβve made so many great friends growing up through the YMCA environment and they really do offer a wide range of things. I started there just to exercise. Soon I picked up basketball, lifting with the nice trainers, swimming, the offered classes, etc. They even have great summer camps if you have kids. The very welcoming environment is great for beginner exercisers and youβll feel welcomed with open arms. Even for more advanced people, they have a great facility. The holiday parties they have, like Halloween for the kids, are always a great time too. You canβt go wrong here.

Enjoyable with some caveats.
There was a great swim program for our kids for the past 5 years- great teaching staff our kids enjoy and good lessons. However, ostensibly "for competitive reasons" they recently changed the swim scheduling to monthly instead of by session (Spring 1, Spring 2, Summer 1, etc), and if you have to drop for a period of time, you end up waitlisted for the more desirable times. So in order to get and remain in a popular timeslot, you have to be locked in. Not a fan of new system- I thought the old "per-session" scheduling system was actually an advantage over the competition that charges monthly.
Staff is friendly and helpful in my experience. Gym, track, courts, classes are good, sometimes crowded or closed for special events- to be expected. Wish they still had the toddler basketball hoop and still provided basketballs (now it's BYOB) They also gutted a very popular toddlers padded play area, maybe for other uses that I haven't seen. Final gripe is that now First Student uses the middle section of the parking lot for over a dozen of their vehicles, which adds to the restrictions in parking for Y members, especially on weekends when the facility, school across the street, and fields are jam-packed for sports activities.
Edit March 2020: upgraded a star because basketballs are now available, and swimming has proven to be accommodating with monthly scheduling.

I really do like this Gym and I wish I could comfortably give it five stars, but the fact that it took the person signing me up over an hour and a half because of her lack of computer knowledge is just... really sad. I am sure their internet had to be partially to blame, but the women taking care of me needed to ask for aid every five minutes and it got to the point where her co-workers were visibly annoyed with her.
The poor women is so nice and sweet and they were all very nice, but if the person signing people up for your gym canβt even figure out how to type with more than one finger... please, for goodness sack, give that job to someone else. Computer literacy should be a qualifier for a position based on a computer, I am sure the darling women has other strengths they can put her on.
I also wish they had a hot tub, so they lose half a star for that and they lose the other half for not better utilizing their available resources. Aka, having someone else who is more computer literate run the sign up counter.

The so called Director of the afterschool program Jennifer acts different towards minorities kids and staff. Oh yeah ALL THE AFRICAN AMERICAN AFTERSCHOOL STAFF QUIT except 1 who was recently let go. Although this Director has been reported repeatedly by multiple parents and to no avail her behavior has not changed. Bad management make good employees leave... Make sure you talk with your kids about their day no matter who they're around. The front staff is great except K.Β Their hotline is a joke. Thats their to fix their lies if you report them. So today I receive a letter from this new Executive Director of the Indian Boundary YMCA informing me that my membership through the Silver Sneakers program is being cancelled. Silver Sneakers is a program to benefit Senior Citizens through paid health insurance plans with complimentary memberships to health clubs. I was invited to continue a membership at the full regular adult rate. This is a problem.
1. I checked around and found that their single adult rate is WAY greater than other health clubs in the area. The others also have longer hours, some even 24 hours.
2. I checked Silver Sneakers website and found that YMCA's in ALL other major metro areas I sampled still show as active participants. It seems that the Chicago Metro YMCA, for whatever reason, is the outlier in dropping participation.
Something here in all this does not smell right.
I will be checking out other facilities. I suggest other single adults do the same as well.

This Placeis a scam they are liars, rude, nasty, and will cheat you they don't care about their customers at all.. My son attended after school care 2 years ago in this place which At that time I was quoted by Devon Williams $205 which I paid after receiving several emails from Devon.. The $205 Devon advised me I would be paying from Jennifer would not change because that was the price I was quoted so stick with that amount.. During the course of those 2 months I was NEVER quoted Anything Different was sent emails from Devon Williams as a reminder about my portion I had to pay which I paid on time. School was out and after school program was over, I kept my membership that was only $58-60 bucks before we moved, and stopped going in August and still was never advised of the made up balance of $350 for after school care fees Jennifer is claiming I owe from backm in 2016 after calling in March of 2018 about rejoining and asking about camp cost and start dates, I asked how I never received anything about a balance I paid on time when my son attended and my membership was auto drafted from my credit card every month, which Jennifer at that time told me it was the end of summer your paperwork was never resubmitted you got lost in the shuffle we were trying to get situated so this is the fee owed because it was end of year and we were trying to get ready for camp and just realize after 2 years this is the balance for your son to attend after school care when he was here, so I asked the emails I was sent about price and quotes also payment reminders were incorrect? Yes, Jennifer said Basically they dropped the ball we didnt notice it 2 years ago, so this is your balance.. I reached out to EVERYONE and constantly I am only being told we'll get back to you we can't find any information on you and never get calls back, was told by Devon and Jennifer weeks ago we're looking into this matter still no calls back, so I called Jennifer yesterday and she was so rude, condescending and nasty to me I asked to speak with someone over them which she tried giving a bogus number.. Sad this place doesnt care and my son is missing out on camp due to an error on their part I had no clue about and they arent doing anything to correct this issue only dodging my calls and Jennifer becoming more and more rude when we speak

Not worth the money. We brought half of our football team to them which was business for them! Very unorganized and most staff is so confused. No stars if I could. Screwed up my account and did nothing to fix or accomedate!
