Messy, unorganized, and management is rude and lazy- too lazy to take care of their business. No dignity or pride in their business as one can see by the pure mess of a gym that this is. They only care about sales with no regard for retention (aka quality of their service which is a simple as speedy maintenance and cleanliness). The only reason they are still open is because they have no competition in the area. As soon as a new slightly cleaner gym opens up in the area, this gym has no competitive advantage. The community needs more competition in the market for gyms because this place is such an embarrassment.

I rarely write reviews, but my experience at this gym has been incredibly frustrating.
I paid for personal training sessions, and when I had five left, I stopped going for a bit because life got busy. When I tried to resume them at a different location, I found out my trainer, Chris, had marked all remaining sessions as completed, even though I never used them. That means he literally stole from me. I asked for confirmation that disciplinary action was going to be taken against Chris, because behavior like that shouldn’t be swept under the rug.
It was embarrassing and frustrating when I showed up at a different location to ask if I could use my remaining training sessions there, only to be told I had no sessions left. I looked stupid standing there trying to explain myself while their own system clearly showed I never scanned in for those sessions. Even then, I had to go in person to talk to a manager to get them reinstated, something that should have been fixed instantly. It was a complete waste of time and energy.
Part of why I wanted to switch locations in the first place was the unsafe environment. The parking lot has no security, gang graffiti, and even used condoms on the ground. Anyone can walk into the parking stairwell because the QR access feature doesn’t work. It feels unsafe, especially at night.
Inside, the trainers act more like a group of high schoolers than professionals. They joke around, complain about management in front of clients, and don’t pay attention to the people they’re supposed to be training. It’s uncomfortable and unprofessional.
I also tried one of their classes scheduled for 7 p.m. I waited until 7:20, thinking it was canceled because no one said anything. When I finally asked if the class was still happening, the instructor just shrugged and started the class like nothing happened.
Yes, the gym is busy, but that’s not the problem. The real issue is how little respect this place has for members’ time, safety, and money. Until management takes real accountability and stops hiring unprofessional trainers like Chris, I would strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere.

LA Fitness on Kedzie is an absolute joke. The staff is rude, lazy, and completely useless. They can’t even provide basic equipment like dumbbells and jump ropes, which is ridiculous for a gym.
When I signed up, they told me I could bring guests.. then later they just took that away with no explanation. To make it worse, they cancelled my membership without even talking to me. When I tried to get answers, all I got was attitude and disrespect.

The dirtiest and most disorganized gym I’ve been to. Nothing was re-racked, free weights/plates/benches in random spots around the gym, and wipe containers empty. The weights on the floor are a safety hazard. Anybody could trip over them and injure themselves.

UPDATED; Two floors of equipment, cardio downstairs, weight training upstairs. Brand New free weight room, which completely opened up the floor space. Still somewhat crowded during the week, but weekends are much more laid back.

Front desk associate MANNY is always welcoming and smiling and making me feel welcomed in this gym .He is amazing to have in the front desk please hire more young men like him who just have a great aura about them . It is because of him alone I give this gym 4 stars. I cannot say the same for his coworkers who work the front desk who are either always on their phone speaking or talking to each other ignoring gym goers not greeting anyone and just make it seem like we are bothering them . I am updated my original review from last year. My main problem was that this location was overboooked and had two closed rooms upstairs never being used. They have opened one of the rooms and made it a free weights area. This helped move people from one location to 2 locations freeing up space and equipment.
The place is definitely cleaner now than before. Staff is more visible on the second floor which deters young individuals from acting out playing other than working out.
A sign needs to be posted limiting cell phone use to a minimum to be considerate of others.

When I first opened my account with L.A FITNESS, I included my daughter as well as my guest which I also pay for her. Today, I arrived with my daughter to the gym to do Cardio and this hispanic girl she was sitting on her computer in the front lobby all the way in the back. She was not even helping us or nothing. There was another girl in the lobby as well and she was on the phone. We walked in, I scanned and I was told to scan for my daughter since she is a guest. What's the point of scanning for your guest to sign her in if it's already shows that her name is in my account. I was going in with my daughter and as I was talking to my daughter. This disrespectful, Unprofessional female employee in the back, she was using the computer in the lobby who was sitting in the back yells at me "Ma'am, if you don't like it buy a membership for your guest". Why in the world would I purchase another membership for my guest if she's already included in my account??. First of all, I was NEVER TALKING TO HER OR OTHER EMPLOYEE IN THE LOBBY. She got involved in a PRIVATE CONVERSATION. I've been to other locations where I go with my daughter to workout and I have never scan for my guest since the employees hve access to the clients memebership accounts they can see who is included in the guest list of the account. But of course, they want to STEAL MORE MONEY FROM THEIR CLIENTS. SHE SHOULD'VE RESPECT AND MINDED HER OWN BUSINESS. NOW AS CLIENTS, WE DON'T HAVE ANY FREEDOM TO HAVE A PRIVATE CONVO SINCE THEY LOVE TO GET INVOLVED. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS DAMN LOCATION. Anyone who is interested, don't come to this location who descriminate, and are very disrespectful to the clients. Customer service is the worst, I have ever experienced. it’s a decent gym with decent staff their parking lot however it is completely different story from having homeless people at the top floors making everything very unsecure and unsafe to having people literally steal parts from your car if you’re at one of the top floors and if you’re at the bottom floor, your car is at risk of being towed. If you’re not in the correct spot it’s just a complete mess there’s lines all over the floor so you don’t even know what parking spot and what’s not I had my car towed and had to pay $250 to get it back.

To anyone searching for a gym to attend, I strongly advise you bring your business elsewhere - Do not waste your time here at this gym.
I recently moved to the city and was looking for a gym. I signed up online for a free 3-day gym trial here and received a confirmation email with a scan code to activate that pass. I entered this gym, scanned the code, and was told to wait for somebody to activate the pass for me. I waited more than ten minutes before being called over. Then I was told that I needed an appointment.
I explained to the worker that nowhere online or on my email did it say I needed an appointment to activate this free 3-day gym trial pass. I showed him my email which clearly states, "Please bring this email to the club and allow us to show you the club and activate your FREE 3-day Guest Pass." The worker stated to me that I should have read the terms and conditions, and he falsely stated that those terms & conditions say an appointment is needed. I pulled up the terms and conditions, asked him to show me where it says I need an appointment, and he disregarded my concern. He stated that I could pay for a day pass instead. I reminded him that on the website and on the confirmation email, it says "FREE 3-Day Gym Trial." He refused to help me, and suggested I come in another day. I certainly will never be returning to this gym.

I’m writing to express my disappointment regarding a recent experience at your location, which left both my mother and me extremely frustrated.
Earlier today, I obtained a guest pass online for my mother so we could do a light cardio session before church. While I initially selected the wrong location (Pershing), I corrected the error once I noticed the GM’s name didn’t match. We arrived at the correct gym, provided the pass, and were asked to sit down, which was completely fine.
However, when we mentioned we were there just to use the cardio equipment, we were told that a manager would have to call us to activate the pass—something that was not mentioned in the confirmation email or on the website. In fact, the instructions specifically stated to come in to activate the pass. I pointed this out and even showed the “fine print,” which reiterated that the pass must be activated in person. Instead of acknowledging the discrepancy, the staff member insisted we either pay $20 for a day pass or sign up for a membership, which defeats the entire purpose of a “free trial.”
What was even more disappointing was the dismissive and condescending tone used. When my mom declined the membership offer, he responded with “ponte las pilas señorita,” which felt unprofessional and unnecessary. He also attempted to make a point about the time I registered for the pass, flipping his screen around and challenging my explanation—again, a pointless confrontation rooted in ego rather than service.
Even after we explained that this was just a trial and she was not ready to commit, he questioned the value of doing cardio at all, which felt incredibly inappropriate and judgmental.
This experience was not only frustrating but discouraging. The guest pass program is clearly advertised as a no-pressure trial to allow potential members to evaluate the gym. Instead, we were met with resistance, passive-aggressive comments, and upselling tactics that lacked basic courtesy.
Additionally, I’ve had a prior incident where I left my keys behind after a workout. I had just returned home from the gym and was about to begin work (I work from home), so I called to ask if someone could quickly check the machine I’d just been using. I was told it was “too busy,” yet when I returned during my lunch break, my keys were sitting right at the front desk in a drawer. No one had followed up with me despite my call.
While I understand everyone has off days, this level of customer service appears to be consistent. I work in process improvement, and many of these issues could easily be addressed with better communication, clearer policies, and a more supportive attitude from staff—especially those who are actively trying to sell memberships.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously. The facilities are great, but the staff interactions have been disappointing and unnecessarily difficult.

Hello I’m at 55th and Kedzie location in Chicago Illinois
For a Zumba class at 5:45 but the sound system is out . The class is at 30 members plus
With the instructor doing her best to continue a class with out sound
It’s very upsetting that the gym in this location didn’t bother to send out notifications to it’s members to let them know about this unfortunate situation nor prepare to have a backup set it place in case something like this would happen
I’ve been to many LA Fitness locations across Chicago and suburbs and it has happened that a sound system was malfunctioning but a backup plan had been put in affect
This location doesn’t respect its members who take time from work and family to come to a gym for a class that simply cannot continue because music is huge part of the class
I tried getting the managers number but girl in reception was hesitant and gave the gyms number which is pointless because you need to call 9 to 5 Monday through Friday
It’s a shame that your prices for membership go up yet the gym and it’s equipment are a fail

I really want to like this gym but the dumbbells are scattered throughout the whole place. It is super frustrating especially when you are limited on time. As someone who has been to more than a handful of gym, I’ve never seen the dumbbell rack be so unorganized. It would be nice if the salesmen would help rectify this issue. I typically see them scrolling on their phone or socializing with members.

As a business traveler I work out at many commercial gyms. I really liked my experience at this gym overall. The staff was nice and the equipment was clean. The one major frustration in this experience was the dumbbells and free weights. They travel all over the gym but not many people seem to put them back. If they to return the weights it’s to the wrong spot. On the huge wall of dumbbells with nearly two full sets of ranging from 5 to 100, less than 10 percent of the weight were in their designated spot. I’ve never been to a gym that was even 20 percent this disorganized. It made it super hard to workout effectively or find anything at all.
As I travel it try to leave places I visit better than I found it. So in the spirit of that, I spent my rest periods reorganizing the entire wall of dumbbells. It probably added an extra 20 minutes to my workout. It would be my recommendation that your shutdown staff give the weights a once over every night before close and put everything back where it’s supposed to go. I think your customer satisfaction will go up significantly and you’ll be able to get your customers in and out faster. All the Best

Customer service and maintenance staff are outstanding. However, I believe management should think of ways to encourage people in putting dumbbells where they belong. I also noticed that people that come in pairs and train together have the habit of using an additional benches or the machines next to, just to rest and use their phones while they wait for their turn, when the gym is almost full capacity!
I’m happy to see a fitness center that welcomes all the community, nevertheless the atmosphere sometimes might feel uncomfortable by the lack of ethic from some users when it comes to the use of the fitness equipment. However, I still recommend this gym. If you live in the neighborhood and you would like to give it a try, it’s a good option because their equipment is well maintained, the locations is great, and the hours of operation are reasonable.

Tried canceling my gym membership since I now live in the Northside and they now make it very difficult to cancel. Apparently, they only do gym cancelations in-person Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm. Those days and times are when a majority of people work. I'm going to have to lose hours from my job just to cancel my membership. Ridiculous!
Also, the place has really gone downhill the past year. It's now dirty and a good chunk of machines don't work.

Always over capacity, full of teenagers. Machines always broken or under “maintenance”. And when they’re working there always missing pieces or have 3 teens swapping the machine & on there phone. Restrooms always dirty. They need to hire more maintenance staff.

Terrible gym. The old man from the front reception is rude. I came in with a free day pass just to see if it was worth getting the membership and he told me I had to pay to get in? The point of a free day pass is to not pay ..... and he still tried to make smart remarks and make me feel bad. DO NOT RECOMMEND definitely better gyms out there!

They legit clean the facilities during peak hours making it nearly impossible to use the locker room facilities while you’re there. Suggest they clean on off hours as that makes the most sense

Horrible customer service. No management working during business hours. The young lady at the front desk @ 9am on a Thursday tried to charge me $20 for entry instead of granting me a tour as a new customer. Very rude, incapable, and unprofessional. She had me sit and wait for a manager that never came. All I received was prejudice energy as if she thought I wanted to rob the place. Better off going with Planet Fitness. Its more culturally diverse, clean, accommodating, and professional.

The gym is typically packed in the afternoon, the rebranding has brought in a lot of families and kids are often playing with equipment on the floor. Machines are out of service for extended periods and the basketball court has not been open in years. As far as safety do not leave teenage girls unsupervised here. There’s an evident sexual predator in his 60’s praying on young girls. Offering unsolicited “advice”, invading personal space, appears innocent but he has made several statements that are red flags, he should be banned from coming here and reported to the authorities. There are never any dumbbells in their place due to individuals not respecting the place. I never been to a gym where I never saw staff on the floor ever to clean or help rerack weights, which helps set the example for those who are new to the gym community. I wanted to love this location since it’s more spacious than my old signature club but for the reasons above I absolutely hate coming to this location. The gym community here is unlike any other I have ever experienced in 10 plus years of training in various gyms. This including others in the area so you can’t just blame the neighborhood.

I’ve been a member of this gym before it was switched to Esporta. Actually before the pandemic when it was still called LA Fitness. Honestly, this gym lost its touch. The members & staff don’t keep the gym clean & well maintained. Dumbbells are either missing or all over the place, barbells are missing or no where to be found. Members aren’t re-racking their weights (when they’re supposed to as it said on their membership agreement), not wiping down the machines after they’re finish using it. Management doesn’t seem to care about ordering new equipment to replace any that’s missing. Thankfully there’s an actual LA Fitness by my job & go to that one which i shall say had a great experience. This gym has gone downhill. If I were to work at a gym again, i would definitely do it & take management’s position.

Some people are so poor that they dive into the swimming pool while swimming, and the water splashes everywhere. Some people dive into the swimming pool after coming out of the hot spring, and they are covered in foam and do not wash themselves off before getting in the water.

It is a very busy place. There is a smell of excrement when you pass by the men's bathrooms (I asked a friend what the bathrooms are like and he says he has seen feces on the wall). They have a genderless bathroom but it is never open. The machines are always busy or some are broken. There is no supervision since there are people with too many dumbbells or they spend time taking photos or talking on the phone. Employees are victims of workplace abuse. And I know of a case of harassment by the person in charge of the place who was in charge of harassing the victim until canceling his membership, I declare it is unfair with respect to whoever deserves it, personal matters should not be mixed with work matters

This gym desperately needs new management/owners. No one has gym etiquette as people leave the treadmills, ellipticals, and other assorted gym equipment covered in sweat and sometimes spit...No one can be bothered to wipe anything down and believe me the wipes are available.
It's worse upstairs where people drop weights and don't even bother putting them back in place and don't get me started to the indifference to people who want to train a little differently with perhaps a little more patience.
To add to the misery the parking lot has homeless encampments and a overwhelming smell of urine I'll have you guess as to why.
This place desperately needs new owners/management who'll enforce the rules and fix all these problems.
I won't go back.

I have been a member a long time member of L A and I had to post my experience. On December 20, 2023, I took my grandson with me to workout. I checked myself in and then checked my grandson into daycare . When I returned to pick up my grandson, I could tell something was wrong with him. When I asked him what happen. He told me a kid spit in my face. I went over to the attendant and asked her what happened and she confirmed that another kid did spit on my grandson. I asked the attendant why wasn’t I called and why she didn’t inform me there was an incident. The attendant stated that she added a note to the account. I told her that wasn’t good enough and I needed to speak to a manager. I went to the front desk and ask to speak to a manager. I was told the manger wasn't here. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was once again told a supervisor wasn’t present.
I have been at this gym for years and the lady that presented herself as a manager in previous communications was sitting at her desk. She refused to talk to me. I explained everything that happened and I requested to talk to someone in charge. I was told once again no one was present. I asked for the corporates number and I now I am writing this letter to ask for your help.
There is a serious discrimination problem at this gym and it needs to be fixed. The first day that my grandson attended daycare, he was told he was a racist because he was black. He told me this after I picked him up but I addressed it with the attendant the next time I was at the gym. I explained to her my grandson was the only African American kid in the daycare and I didn’t want him picked on by the other kids. I asked her to please pay attention to what the kids were saying and doing and she told me she would. The next incident I witnessed myself. As I was coming into daycare I saw my grandson surrounded by two large Hispanic boys. One of them threw something at my grandson and I yelled that nobody better be putting there hands on my grandson. I asked the attendant what happening and she told me she didn’t know. I asked my grandson and he stated the boys were being mean to him. Now the third incident is a child spitting in my grandson face.
This is unacceptable and the way that it was handled was unacceptable. The attendant never told me it was an incident until I asked her what happened. At the time of the incident there was a minimum of 14 kids in daycare and only one attendant. How can one attendant oversee so many children and keep the children safe. The kids are allowed to yell and fight and nothing is reported to the parents. I have been a member for a long time and I feel that my grandson and I haven’t been treated fairly.

One of the worst gyms in the area. Members are just as much to blame for this as is the staff. I’ve noticed that no one really wipes down equipment after use or reracks equipment either. Hand grips are stolen and unavailable as are some of the clips for the cable machines. Such a shame cause they do have a better selection of equipment.

Im a member of this gym and i have been to a few locations but they are all the same in the form of staff. Their staff is unfriendly unkind always seem to be mad stuck up.
I've noticed that a lot of the staff also will use the gym after their shift and that's great however they hang out there in the gym like its a chilling spot a meeting spot with other friends and they get in the way they don't use the gym equipment but they wanna be calling dibs on it they record and stream they wild out like ita a dam high school playground and its not only the gym on 55th and kedzie its every gym near my area.

Honestly I went to this particular gym for a year and a half because of the Zumba fitness instructors.(which most
of the Zumba instructors are great Marion is definitelyNOT OF THEM )BUT AS A BLACK Woman IN AN HISPANIC DOMMAINT GYM. They are very prejudice and give off weird vibes. Basically smile in your face and talk about you in your face in Spanish. And very recently I stop going to this particular gym because they refuse to get the stereo equipment fixed. Which is a major issue because that's how Zumba class operates by using the stereo equipment. . To my black brothers and sisters please do not stay in an environment where we are barely tolerate . Fyi the front desk is not knowledgeable about the fitness instructors available before hand there was several of times that I traveled on blank missions. You have to become Facebook friends with the instructors for their schedules.
