I want to give a huge shoutout to Destiny at LA Fitness for her outstanding customer service today. She was incredibly welcoming, patient, and helpful from the moment I walked in. Everytime I come here it’s something. Today I got there at 9:30 so I can just do a quick workout and go but I’m met with locked doors for some reason. I just told myself they must of closed at 9 or something but the gym full of people made me check the time and I see they close at 10. So yeah…they don’t close at 10 apparently. It’s 9:30…it’s not a restaurant or anything it’s a gym…so why did they close at 9:30 instead of like 9:55 or the display time which is 10.

It is a wonderful club don’t get me wrong but the reason why I gave them a 3 star is because they need to bring the kids club back because its convenient for us parents who need a sitter while working out when school is out or don’t have a babysitter to watch them when you do workout that Covid mass it up for us parents we needs clubs like this where you can bring your kids with you while working out and you can go to pick end on them while getting fit

I would NEVER in life enter this circus again. You can't even workout in peace without crabs in the bucket either watching you, trying to see what you're doing to compete, or men being offended because you're a woman and have more stamina than them. Then the FEMALE staff being upset that you look good or whatever their case is, idk, I'm not a mind reader. I had to call corporate for one female staff constantly trying to bully me because she lacked confidence, so she would get upset if I didn't feel like engaging in conversation with her at 5am. She’d taunt me throughout my entire stay, then start to tell other members bad things about me all because I didn't feel like engaging in conversation at 5am. She would say, "Oh, she has a bad attitude and I don't care, I'm going to talk to her every time she walks in here AND." JUST A COMPLETE BULLY. No one should have to experience this. Idk why they would allow this place to get like this. I was a LA FITNESS member for years prior to me moving to Georgia. Literally, the LA FITNESS in Georgia being predominantly Black, I NEVER experienced this. After report after report and nothing happening, I chose to NEVER return.

Overall, an average gym. Nothing special outside of a pretty decent lap pool and understaffed juice bar. The spa provided has literal body dirt from people swirling around in it. The amenities are not worth the expensive initiation fee of about $150. I highly recommend catching their special rates if your allowed to (usually around a holiday). Their sales team, In particular a guy name Edington was very dismissive in helping me with the membership i got through my insurance (which helped me avoid the less than desirable initiation fee). I much preferred Stephanie as she followed up with me after an inquiry about a membership a month later. Although i was not able to work with her directly and went a different route, I appreciated the effort. Lastly the front desk staffed is not properly trained in making accounts from the front desk and have to rely on the sales team to walk them through a simple account set up method. Disappointed in the lack of work ethic here but i have no choice as it is the only halfway decent gym in the area.

The time is 820am, the gym opens at 8am. Almost every Saturday the staff shows a lack of respect for their community by opening late and not offering apologies nor proper solutions. This facility is the closest to my home and I take it as an insult that they don't respect their community enough to keep it clean, nor open on time. The mens locker room constantly smells like pee, theres always toilet paper on the floor but not available for proper use. Shame on you. We deserve better

A good sized gym with lots of equipment and room to workout. But it's bad enough that they open at 8a on weekends, but this location routinely is late to open. Management can't seem to figure out how to open the doors and often you'll find 15-20 people waiting outside.

Terrible customer service. Wanted me to jump through hoops to prove I’m a member all because I got a new phone. The phone already asked me to transfer to this device and I already had a barcode ready to use. Why would I then have to show them proof of my credit card on file just to work out. Ridiculous.
Black girl with dreads also shushed me as I tried explain to her that I had already transferred everything to this phone and worked out at another location with no issues.

Love the fact that I can go here to releave the stress of the workday. The equipment is well organized and functioning, ex. treadmills are usually in good working order. If there are no classes in the aerobics room I go in there for stretching and rehabbing my knees. There are certain times when the gym is busy but there's enough equipment that I can modify my workout and still get what I needed to done. Improve your health, improve your life. A great place for that.

I have already submitted my review a few months ago. I find it very interesting the management only responds to the positive reviews and completely ignores the negative ones. We no longer go to this gym, even though it's right down the street from our house. The Hyde Park location is MUCH better - the energy is better and the staff actually acknowledge you and make an effort to put the dumb bells/weights/curl bars back. We try to avoid the 35th street location as much as we possibly can. It's a shame that management and corporate can take your monthly dues and not care about how to make it a great experience for their members.

I've been training at this gym for quite a while now, and I think it’s time to share some honest feedback about my experience. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been great, and I’m increasingly frustrated by the ongoing issues.
One of the major issues at this gym is the severe lack of equipment for each muscle group. There are typically only two machines available for each exercise, and more often than not, one of them is out of order. This leaves members with just a single functioning machine, which becomes a huge inconvenience, especially during busy hours. Despite raising this concern with management multiple times, nothing ever seems to change. Machines are left broken for weeks, sometimes even over a month, with no clear effort to fix them. As of now, three machines have been out of service for a long period, and it’s clear nothing is being done to address it.
Moreover, the cable section is in dire need of attention. There are no handles or ropes available for basic exercises like cable flys, tricep pushdowns, or other essential workouts. The situation has gotten so bad that many members have resorted to bringing their own gear, as the gym no longer provides even the most basic equipment for these exercises.
On top of that, the equipment is frequently broken or missing. Dumbbells are often misplaced, and it’s common to find them scattered across the gym. Even worse, the trainers themselves take the dumbbells and other equipment for their own personal training, which leaves members without what they need for their workouts. These trainers seem to think they own the place, and their attitude makes it even more frustrating.
The overall maintenance is appalling, and the staff simply doesn’t seem to care. It feels like no one takes responsibility for the issues that are constantly popping up. To top it all off, management is completely unresponsive and unhelpful. They rarely address the problems, and it’s clear that they have no real interest in improving the experience for the members.
These ongoing issues are not only frustrating but also make it nearly impossible to get a decent workout in. I really hope management takes this feedback seriously and starts making the necessary changes to improve both the gym's maintenance and the overall experience. Members deserve a reliable and well-maintained facility.

I've read some reviews that prompted me to create one of my own. Your gym experience is what you make it. The people in this gym are friendly, working class people. There is a sense of community here. No gym is without some equipment failures. No gym is without some knuckleheads. This gym is clean and well staffed. Also, the juice bar is great!

I've only been a member for a few months this time around, and so far, I only lap swim and take exercise classes. I have no complaints in these two areas.
I've never had an issue getting my laps in at the pool as the other swimmers are always respectful about how much time they take in the lanes.
The locker room is usually clean, and someone is often actively cleaning it while I'm there.
Andreana J who teaches the Wednesday Cardio class (formerly Cardio Hip Hop) is amazing! She not only ensures a great workout for her always-full classes, she provides modifications for those of us who need them, she engages with the whole class and her routines encourage the class to engage with each other. It's super fun! As an added bonus, I've learned a few moves I'll try out next time I go dancing! Seriously, her classes alone are worth my membership fee, and I plan to also check out her class at the Lake Park location on Saturdays.

I’ve been working out at this gym for a while now, and I wanted to share some honest feedback about my experience. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been great.
Firstly, there are very limited machines available for each muscle group—usually just two—and one of them is almost always out of service. Alright so here's my New Year Update with my previous review below. So I've been coming to this gym for 7 months now due to it being the closest to my parents. I'm only giving it a 1 star upgrade due to the gym community outside of the staff. There is one trainer that actually talks to people and that's James Graham, the only one who has even offered me some training IN 7 MONTHS! Customer service needs a complete overhaul, either retrain the staff on how to interact with the public or just hire new people because every time I come in I say hello and they just stare at you like NPCs before continuing their conversation with each other. STOP PUTTING WATER IN THE SHOWER SOAP DISPENSER TO MAKE IT LAST LONGER! The gym layout is chaotic with the leg section being right in the middle of the upper body section and the personal training area needs to be reorganizing completely. They blame the dropped quality of the gym on the acquisition of XSport when it's plum obvious it's staff 🤷🏿♂️.

The staff is the worst. They go out of their way to make something as simple as checking in difficult for you. They aren’t informed on policy or services, for example I was given a weekly pass and was told I needed my ID, that’s fine, I go back home and retrieve it and return to the gym, they then tell me that because I was a member before, I can’t enjoy the weekly pass. You would think they could have given me that information the first time . I went to the website and didn’t find that info, I looked at the flyer and that also isn’t stated on the flyer. The gym itself is nice and clean and they have a cool smoothy bar.

You shut down ever Southside gym, predominantly in Black communities, and still can't ensure that customers have an efficient operating gym with such limited options. Very spacious and has the equipment we need to get a good work out in. I like this location way better than the Canal street location. Very close to my home - I like that fact and it's a very nice and clean gym. However, it would be nice if the staff/management would make sure that the free weights are were they should be. It's irritating to have to search for dumbbells and curl bars. People not putting their weights away is beyond annoying. I shouldn't have to take off three 45 pound plates for you. If you are strong enough to lift it, you are strong enough to put your weights back. The front desk staff could smile and acknowledge people as they leave and come in.

I’m split about the merge but with standing the wait of what’s to come. Hopefully 24hr access gyms stay and all facilities have a wet dryer for swimwear, proper cleaning teams and spa equipment for essential recovery. This can become an amazing opportunity to be a top prestige gym overall with these necessary changes :)

I only go there now for protein shakes, jerk chicken bowl. and tuna. I have an injury and can not do the machines or attend classes yet. The facility is clean, the machines appear to be all working. This gym is dirty, the carpet needs to removed or cleaned. I went yesterday and no one cleaned or flushed the toilets in the men’s locker room. The members that go to this gym do not re-rack, but I blame the staff for not getting up from their desk and making sure the weights are where they should be. Your members will only do what you allow, and not making sure that the weights are re-racked is a big issue! The staff generally just sits at the front desk and I guess do sales

Gym was dirty and no wipes were anywhere to wipe down equipment before/after use. Patrons were inconsiderate; leaving weights on the floor wherever they used them. Someone was playing very loud music and not using earbuds. The young lady at the counter was nice and professional. I workout daily and typically enjoy my gym visits. I visited this location because my regular gym is closed for repairs. This was an overall terrible gym experience and I will never go back to this location.

The gym is very disorganized, equipment and staff wise. The operations manager, Guadeloupe is very lackadaisical and it seems she will lie in regards to your questions about packages just to make a sale. It seems that’s a strong tendency of many LA Fitness workers and it’s disheartening and BLATANTLY ANNOYING. As a commercialized gym, I would expect that sale protocols would be more professional and formalized but I guess not when you just have people that don’t go the gym but want to make a buck working. The weights can’t even be reorganized by workers, so it seems all staff here are just lazy.

I have been going to the LA Fitness Center since they opened. I quickly switched from the Canal Street Center to this one on King Drive. It is excellent! I am an early bird. I have been here right at 5am and they have always opened on time. The machines are great, the atmosphere is wonderful and the center is bright and clean. I have never encountered a problem here and I highly recommend.
Update: Last week was my first time to return since the start of the pandemic back in 2020. I am so happy that this LA Fitness Center remains awesome! I continue to highly recommend!!!

The hottub hasn’t worked for months now. I’m considering a new gym. The patrons are wonderful, and I love the classes, but management just sucks. They let the police set up a table to recruit, which is incredibly distracting and frankly stressful.

I now question the safety of this location. Today, someone walked off the street with gun in his front pocket. No one was at desk when he entered, but even if they were. They can ONLY due so much to prevent people from entering. The receptiontist who I later learned was the manager provided a very "unsatisfactory" response when I asked about the security/safety protocols. So, I called corporate hoping to find some relief...and more PROACTIVE response. I was again disappointed. The gym, like so many other places we visit are vulnerable places for violence. I suggest armed security, and the response "we've never done that." AND!! You can NOT put a PRICE ON SAFETY. I hope the Bronzeville location and others start taking PROACTIVE steps to keep members + staff safe. And, keeping someone at the desk is just not enough! Do better.

I enjoyed my personnel fitness class with Walter today. He asked me what brought me into L.A. Fitness and what I thought I might be comfortable with. After my stretching exercises with him I was able to try out other equipments on my own. I felt so well rounded after I left the facility...what took me so long to attend L.A. fitness!

The lack of ability to rack dumbbells at any gym leaves it with one star. I'll never understand why gym owners nor employees take any responsibility in organizing the free weight area. Why do I have to go on a scavenger hunt to find matching dumbbells.
Why even hire people if they aren't going to do their jobs. It's the least they can do. The gym isn't dirty to my knowledge and is fairly big/open but again. You pay people to sit on their phones all day? Ridiculous.

I've only been coming in for about a week but I have no complaints so far. It's big (in my opinion), much bigger than my last gym. Lots of room, I personally think they have more than enough machines and equipment to go around. Everything seems pretty clean to me. Can get crowded during certain times of the day but that's to be expected. Haven't had any issues with anyone or anything so far, I definitely plan on coming in as much as possible and taking advantage of all their amenities.

They hire some of the worst people possible the dark skin guy with the nose ring very disrespectful and rude this the person who’s manager this establishment yeah I will never give y’all good ratings. The white guy don’t speak to Black people. I guess cause it’s on a 35th and king drive they hire people with hatred attitudes. I hope this gym get enough complaint so the CEO. Can come out to reevaluate everybody who’s been hired or who is getting higher or who is doing the hiring

BEWARE OF THIS CLUB AND SALESPERSON AND TRAINER KVON B.!!!
I had a call from KVON B. at this club on June 27, 2023. He was at first very personable and told me that I could come in for a free training session because my insurance company allowed one free session. He seemed very friendly over the phone, and I felt comfortable enough to tell him about my recent cancer diagnosis. I scheduled an appointment for June 28, 2023, at 9:30 am.
I went in, and KVON was as polite as can be. We had a good workout session. He sat down with me to go over what the costs of a personal trainer would be. He told me three monthly sessions are $ 195.00 per year, charged upfront. I was very explicit in my questioning, leaving no room for misunderstanding when I verified that he quoted the correct price; he assured me that $ 195.00 per year was all I would pay. He said it because the billing is "bundled and annualized." I agreed to that pricing and he had me sign the contract electronically. I know better than to sign something I cannot see. He had me sign on the electronic pad as he explained what I was signing, saying I would get a copy in my e-mail. I could not see the actual verbiage as it was not made available. I know better because I am in sales, but I was conned by his seemingly genuine personality and desire to help me.
When I arrived home, it was nagging me. I pulled up the contract in my e-mail, and not only did he charge me $ 99.00 more ($ 294.00) upfront; the contract stated it is $ 195.00 per month with an annual cost north of $ 2,400.00. I was livid; I called the club and asked for KVON. The young lady transferred me, and I was disconnected. I called back, told the young lady I wanted to speak to a manager, and explained why. Kvon then came to the phone; I told him how dishonest this was and told him this was a blatant fraud. He suddenly changed like Kujo and was on the defensive and said this was for my health. (As if he cares so much about my health, lol). I told him I wanted to cancel, and he sarcastically said that you must come in to cancel if you wished to cancel.
I went in that evening and told the young lady at the front desk that I wanted to speak with a manager. She went and got Kvon. He came out on the defensive. He said there was a misunderstanding; I said, "No, you knew perfectly well what you were doing. I asked you specifically in closed-ended questions about the pricing". This was when the truth came out. He was poking fun at my cancer diagnosis. He sarcastically said, "That is on you because I am healthy." I did not become upset because I knew he was very insecure and unintelligent. He went on and on and continued to argue with and antagonize me. I said, "I will not argue with you; I want to speak to a manager." He said, "You are looking at him." I continued with the young lady, canceled the membership, and walked out as he continued to spew insults.
Please beware of these people and their sales tactics, especially beware of KVON B. They asked questions like how many times you go to Starbucks a month? They are trying to size up your wallet. He also asked questions like who I have as a support system? This is playing on your vulnerability as if they will support you in need. None of this is genuine, all they are trying to do is get you to sign a contract for their commissions, and if you do not cancel within 72 hours, you are screwed!

I can always get a good workout in here. The classes are fun and engaging. The instructors push you without making you feel uncomfortable. The facilities are always clean. I like that they have a place for kids. I love the pool and sauna area as well.

The current manager invites the Chicago police in to recruit at a booth inside the gym on a weekly basis. When I complained about the police presence and their recruitment table, he kicked me out of the gym today by calling on those same police.
The manager does not care about members and cannot handle needed criticism.
Looking at the manager, you can also tell he's never exercised in his life and doesn't understand the need to exercise in stress-free gym without police recruitment tables.

I’ve been worked out LA fitness located for a couple of months. I’ve always being a good member, I never left a dirty equipment behind, and always control my voice.
Today when I was working out on the treadmill, one lady step on the treadmill by my side and started to talking on the phone very loud and laughing. I nicely mentioned her just low her voice she started laughing at me.
I didn’t talk more to her, I found a manager who opened my account for me, what he told me made me feel so disappointed.
At first I’ve been told he’s not going to deal with this because he’s not managing about the front, he only managing the money. And he told me I should not talk to any other costumers and I would have to deal the same situation all the time. Because I’m in a BIG gym. LA fitness is the biggest around my area. OK, Is that mean BIG GYM couldn’t offer good service because you have too much members so you don’t care about to lose one custom like me?
Also when I first signed up, he told me I will get one month free and I never get that.
I feel so sorry you’re losing the good customers like me and keeping all those kind of people in the gym. I have to cancel my member ship. I can’t face the managers and afraid to get in the same situation like he said.

I am giving this LA fitness location a 2-star rating. Management changed over the last year. There is consistently mold growing in the male showers and also on the shower curtains. They have the staff and the cleaning products to get it right.
I have alerted reception staff for the past 3 weeks minor improvements ... It's time to start emailing corporate offices. This is not acceptable.
