The male steamer and sauna used to work perfectly and now they are not as hot as they used to be. The sauna from the other LA fitness work properly and are streaming hot. But this location the door from the Sauna has an air leak making the hot air escape. The steamer machine (in the steaming room) is constantly on for some reason where it’s trying to steam to the level is supposed to be but it never makes the steam room hot enough (it used to in September). A month ago they had a stronger steaming machine. Not sure why they are not trying to fix it. Just joined LA Fitness, and not only was the process easy, the staff were very welcoming to my new experience. It was easy to sign up in person, and the trips to the gym have been amazing. The gym crowd has also been great, and full of people who just want to work out.

Of course, just now I came and I did not know that my subscription had expired, and there was a woman standing at the reception hall wearing glasses. She was very rude. I told her in a very kind way that I didn’t notice my subscription had expired, and I gave her my card and all my information, but she didn’t know how to help me and didn’t know how to process the subscription, and her behavior was very bad. Wonderful gym they’ve recently changed the lighting and have been getting new equipment in. Loved the gym before but now it’s even better.
Management is extremely friendly and this was something I was able to observe first hand when noticing that they were being harassed by a member who wasn’t letting them have access to a locked area and after being extremely patient with her and her son (Miguel who left a review underneath) finally were able to get them escorted out with nothing but kindness and professionalism.

I’ve been going to the LA Fitness at Howard and Clark in Chicago, and it’s always a great experience. The manager, Henry, is amazing — he greets everyone with a smile and is super encouraging. He really sets the tone for great customer service and should be the one training other gyms! The rest of the staff is also very friendly and always says hello. The gym is always very clean, and the weights are always put back in the right place. Nothing is ever out of order. Great place to work out!

I used to like this gym and the staff was decent, but since the change in management, it’s severely gone downhill.

Like a previous review said, whoever the lady is with the glasses at the front desk(maybe the new manager) is incredibly rude and off-putting. Whenever my app for sign in isn’t working, I ask if I can use my phone number and she’s insistent I use the app and reset my login when I’ve had to do that like 10 times already because the app sucks too!

I also brought a friend that was visiting for a few days and we got the 3 day guest pass and she said because he’s not from Chicago, he’s not allowed to use the guest pass.

Terrible management. Please do something because I like this gym for how close it is to where I live!

Building management closed off the atrium entrance so you have to walk an extra half mile to just get from the Howard station to the gym. I can only assume that they hate homeless people so much that they don't care they're hurting the community by removing what was once a public pass through between the CTA and the strip mall. Elderly folks used to use this pass through on their way through the Howard station.

Also, for the love of God please order more weight clips. This location only has enough for the benches and the one squat rack, so if you come in when someone is using a pair for dead lifts you're left scrambling for a pair or just lifting unsecured weights.

Limiting the staircase and elevator for the shopping center to only LA Fitness makes it much harder for disabled and elderly people who need to go to the stores in the shopping center.

Extremely disappointed that it is less accessible for those who need it as the 5 minute walk around the shopping center is much harder for the disabled and elderly people, especially during bad weather, which isn’t rare here in Chicago.

Bad and for the neighborhood and hostile to the community. Find somewhere else to go and tell all your friends to do the same. They swooped in and closed off a walking path that has been used as a passthrough from the L to the grocery store for years.

Then they posted aggressive security to shoo the elderly people who've been relying on that elevator in the passthrough.

I've lived in this neighborhood for 15+ years and I've passed through the public stairway at least a thousand times to go to Jewel, CTA, UPS, GameStop, and all the other stores that have come and gone over the years. Today, I had two guards tell me the public is no longer allowed to use the stairs.

Ok, fine. If you now privately own/rent the building, then that's fair. I can easily walk or bike around the building. But what about all the disabled and elderly people who use the elevators or stairs?

Ironically, in all the years I've lived here, I'm not exaggerating when I say I've seen maybe a TOTAL of 5 or 6 people come or go to the gym itself and yet I've seen HUNDREDS of elderly or disabled people use the stairs and elevators. People who I have gladly held the door open for.

I hope you enjoy paying and watching your two hired guards block the elderly and disabled. Way to keep the neighborhood out.

For this reason, I will never use this location or even the one by my work.

As for everyone else, check out First Ascent! They have a gym AND a climbing wall and the people there are nice and actually care about the public!

This location is breaking the law by violating the Americans with disabilities act. The gym staff locked the mall entrance doors from he inside, saying only gym members can go through the mezzanine of the mall and back to the CTA, not allowing disabled people, seniors, people with strollers or people coming from Jewel Osco in the mall area with their carts of groceries in them to use the elevator. Instead, the gym workers are making disabled people go around the entire mall to gain access to the stores and back around the entire mall to get back to the CTA, which also means people in wheelchairs have to push themselves up a long slanted upward sidewalk just to get to the stores. The shopping mall entrances are supposed to be opened during shopping hours, which it used to, but the gym is renting people to stand at the mall entrance doors now who are telling people only gym members are allowed to go through the mezzanine to use the Elevator. For starters, that's an entrance to the shopping center, giving people access to the elevator, and the gym isn't even on either floor of the mall entrances. The elevator wasn't built in the mall entrance for the gym. Its for accessibility for people with disabilities and easier for people to push strollers and carts with groceries. The mall was built long before the company la fitness even existed. People in wheelchairs don't even be going to that gym, but the gym employees think they have the right to deny access to the elevator to get to the mall & CTA. They won't even allow mall employees to go through the mall entrance and if the mall entrance is allegedly only for gym members, which is a lie, then they shouldn't allow CTA workers or K-9 from CTA to use the entrance, especially since the CTA isn't in the mall area, but they do because I seen them going in when we were walking towards the entrance.This company should be fined for breaking the law & for denying wheelchair access

Update: I got my friend to do a 3 day trial, but we had some trouble getting it working. We talked to the manager, and he said he wanted an ID from my friend. My friend not having one because he still in school was like welp shit I don't got one. He was then vary rude and said yeah no you can not work out here without one. BTW I don't have an ID and have been working out there for well over 4 months as a member. Then me and my friend and I went back to the lobby where we tried to figure the problem with his email. We found the email with the QR code for the trial, scanned it, and were happy to then be let theough. 15 mins into the workout with my friend, the manger comes up vary rudely and tells us to get out. Both of us. He says we didn't come through him, so we can not work out. He was not nice or polite. He was not understanding and did not want to be... I just wanted to work out with my friend. Legit, if we never went to the manager, we would have never been stopped or had a problem. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth to be disregarded. Sorry for long read, but yeah.

Heads ups!
Got my locker broken into yesterday after my workout and later found out my lock was cut. I was not the only one from what I heard from the staff. I'm pretty sure there is going to be more because the section where my locker is there was no lock on any of it so I'm assuming they broke into all that section locker.
Made an incident report with the receptionist whom he call manager Larry whom was unemphatic and not of much help. I have spoken to the district manager Jessica and have emailed her a few weeks ago regarding other problems yet she still has not respond on issues that dates back all the way to last year. I've asked for the issues to be forward to Jessica's supervisors but does not seem to get past her and she is inadequate in resolving issues and just don't care.
I am still awaiting for corporate office management team to contact me regarding these issues.

I would like to honor the manager, Larry at this gym, Larry has a great presence as the front leader of this gymnasium. The hospitality he exudes when you check in is exceptional. But what I want really highlight, is how Larry has put together a cleaning staff that is actually top professional exceptional. I’ve managed luxury hotels for over 30 years. I’ve managed the people who clean these hotels in the bathroom facilities. Larry has two guys here that can work in any major five star hotel in the whole country. They relentlessly clean the bathroom nonstop. They clean the stalls they clean the machines. But they don’t clean for just a few hours they clean nonstop. I’m very impressed by this. They are steps above the other gyms in the area. Keep it up , I want to say peace and love

A dump. The elevators smell like pee, the vending machine stole two dollars from me and I have to wait to get reimbursed. They say it isn’t as ends by them, but it’s not a good look for it to be where customers can use it if it doesn’t function properly. I moved away from the Chicago area 3 months ago and I have been trying to cancel my membership since then without any success. I called their customer service who told me to mail in a cancellation request which I did to no avail. I kept calling for the manager but apparently he’s never there so I traveled 2 hours to the branch to cancel the membership in person and was told that it’ll be cancelled before my next billing date but I still got billed. My only option now is to cancel the card I registered with and get a new card because it doesn’t seem like they have any intention of stopping the monthly billings. They are only concerned with getting your credit card information so that they can take as much money as they can from you. You’re better off going to Planet Fitness or some other gym. Really wish I could give them no stars. Also a lot of these reviews are Mike, the manager, taking your phone after signing you up for a membership, and writing them himself do not trust them.

I’ve been going to this gym for the past 5 years. Love working out there and love the location. My issue is with Mike P. He’s a manager that is a liar. Told me to sign up personal training reassuring me that I can cancel anytime and then stabs you in the back. He’s very inappropriate and he would ask to come over to your house multiple times. He’s not trustworthy and be very careful of what you say around him. Even his baby mama hates him as they are currently fighting for custody of his child. Ask me how I know this? He told me!! I like how this place still keeps the old Bally's workout equipment in here. You know they got new stuff in here obviously but they still keep some of the old Bally's stuff in here. I think that's a nice touch because I like some of that older equipment. It's right off of the red line yellow line purple line and a whole bunch of other CTA and Pace buses. So it's easily accessible. It's also near a bunch of other shopping opportunities when you're done working out. The music isn't too loud and here at all.

I have been a personal training client for over 5 years... I truly enjoyed my trainer and being held accountable. A huge hospital bill forced me to cancel my month to month contract. The manager at this site made things so difficult... signing up was so fast and easy and done in the evening, but canceling this, you are forced to talk to one person on a weekday, 9 to 5. After taking several days off to be in the hospital, and worried about money... they want me to take more time off to cancel my contract... or print a form off their website and mail it in, which takes weeks, they said... I'm sorry this is not 1997... update your website! After 5 years, I'm sorry we had to end on this note. Think twice before you enter into a personal training contract here!

I enjoy this gym only because they have few classes and I can come early and practice my hulahoop in the space where classes are usually held. Other than that they don’t have a pool or any extra exciting features really.

I was at the gym this morning and I left at 7:15am and I sat my ear phones down and forgot to pick them up. I was only in one area of the gym which was where classes are usually held, during a time where no classes were active. I called this morning at 10:15am after checking all my bags and cloths to see if they were in fact where I’m sure I left them on top of cubby or on radio .

Larry the operations manager was very rude to me when I called and raised his tone with me every time I asked him questions for clarification about the lost and found process. I simply asked if someone could check those spaces and he told me no. He said my item was such a minut item that he could not ask anyone if they had seen them and he can only wait to see if the janitor or another patron brings them to desk.

This really had me flabbergasted because I spent 7 minutes on the phone with him and in that time he could have checked the location I asked to be checked or asked janitorial staff. My headphones cost $100 and I’m certain they are in one of those spots and they aren’t in a condition anyone would be able to use them. So I’m 85% sure they are probably still sitting there.

I pay too much for my membership to be treated with dis concern and low effort when seeking information about my item. This really has me evaluating do I even wish to continue my membership at this gym.

The guy at the front desk Larry harassed me several times. He charged my account $20.00 even though my guest had a free guest pass, and was at the facility for only ten minutes. So annoying and rude. He told me today that they can revoke my gym membership. Every time I check in he talks to me and wastes my time. I just wanted to work out in peace. The elevators are absolutely disgusting. Maybe they should hire someone to clean the elevators. They have no weights or correct size kettlebells.

Dirty Gym, formally LA now esporta. Moved to the area thought I would check it, called in they said 10$ entry double confirmed it told them that i will be bringing that and an ID and exact change. My 16 year old grandson got duped into signing up for a membership.. a minor..
I tried speaking with Brandon sales Mgr he blew me off. Then I tried talking to Terrell to see how he could help resolve the sisters issue..clueless! They cannot void the contract...
How could you explain to a minor their legal obligation when the fact a sixteen year old is not capable of understanding the legal terms of a membership/ agreement or contract??He never signed a contract or membership but they Brandon and Esporta fitness didn't hesitate to take his visa card as payment on file..
My question is how could a minor under the age of 16 cannot be on the floor without the parent or guardian yet its ok for said minor to sign a contract for services without a parent or guardian present??.. let's see how the news media will spin it...

The guy at the front desk is unprofessional and he will make so many people not to register. He should go for training to know how to talk to customers. He find it difficult to cancel me after I was told , I can cancel within 2weeks and get refund. I even told him the reason for my cancelation and I will come back to register. He was so rude.

We signed up under LA Fitness. Now they rebranded cheaper even though owned by the same company. To get the new lower rate you have to quit and rejoin and pay the joining fee again. It pays back with the lower rate at about 4.5 months. Pretty squirrely if you ask me.

Esporta advertises a free 3-day gym pass. You'd think that means at least 72 hours. Instead, it means less than 45. When you point out this obviousness to the gym employees, they count on their fingers multiple times and then do nothing even after realizing 2 days is not 3 days. Gym employees are also oblivious to matching safety precautions of those with whom they speak and are completely unable to help potential members find deals, happily seeing money walk out the door. Incredibly unimpressed.

It's smaller than my old gym but the atmosphere and the people are great. The machines seemed relatively new which is a huge plus!

This LAF is * THE CLEANEST *.... by FAR of all of the LAF's I've been to in Chicago. It's too bad this cleaning crew doesn't manage the entire chain's operations, because they know how to get a job done properly. The desk staff here also know how to mind their own business, and they respect that it's member's money that keeps the gyms open and not Lori Lightfoot or the Cook County Communist Party and Health Department.

Got there around 740 am and couldn’t get in because my pass wasn’t activated and was told by the lady at the front desk that that person would be in @ 8:30 ! I waited around until 8:50 and left.

There was nothing posted on the sight or during signup that stated I needed a ‘manager’ to activate my account or I wouldve pushed my in-time back an hour. Also she should’ve had some autonomy to move the process along but instead just told me she couldn’t do anything and asked me to wait .

Hopefully I’ll have better luck at the Broadway location

The manager lies or is misinformed.

I needed to cancel my membership because I couldn't afford it. The manager told me that in order to cancel I had to physically show up at the gym or fill out a form and then send it via snail mail. I called another location and they cancelled my membership within 2 minutes.

One of the customer unfriendliest gyms ran by unprofessionals. The guy at the desk “Larry” is there to get you and one of the rudest and unprofessionals right off the bat. The gym associates and trainer don't have an idea of what is what. I was sent back forth 6 times on 3 days for something stupid that they couldn’t figure out and didn’t even have the audacity to say sorry. Half the gym trainers/associates don’t even speak english right. Don’t count on customer service or easy deal with staff. Went to another near by gym and best staff ever

This gym is pretty big and has everything you need. The staff is nice and they keep the place clean. The only downside to this gym is that there’s only one squat rack. During busy hours you often have to wait to use it.
