this whole transfer from Xsport to LA has been a nightmare. i have had to call every month to tell them to stop charging my card and every month its a "youre gonna have to pay this month before we can close the account". Having to come in person to cancel an account at that specific location is ridiculous if I dont live there anymore! And the gym isnt even worth, the whole place smells like urine and theres rarely a person available or theyre too busy flirting with someone.

This was the only place in the area I could get an early morning workout in on the weekends. Now they aren’t open until 7?! The hour change was a huge mistake. I don’t understand how a gym isn’t open in the early mornings or late nights. This is when some people can only get in and was the only thing that differentiated this place. I used to really love this gym, but since this Xsport was taken over by LA fitness, things have gone downhill. They got rid of a bunch of machines that I liked and used, and the staff have become even less helpful than they were at Xsport. The pool and hot tub are closed because the gym hasn't gotten them recertified with cook county. And my least favorite change of all, the hours were substantially shortened. I usually go to the gym at 9pm every day, which was totally fine since Xsport was 24 hours. The new hours go until 11 Monday through Thursday, until 10 on Friday, and until 8 on the weekends. It really screwed up my schedule 3/7 days of the week. Xsport was never great about cleaning and maintenance, and LA may actually be worse. This gym has every sign of a sinking ship, I am not going to renew my membership. I had a 2-year prepaid membership to Xsport that I am only finishing out to avoid double paying for a gym membership. Its a shame, because I used to love Xsport more than any other gym :(

Edit: They have reopened the pool, I'm changing my review from 1 star to 2 stars. My biggest grievance is the gym closing early on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If the gym was open until 11 every day, I don't think I would have been unhappy enough to post this negative review in the first place.

Sure, this gym had its share of problems when it was Xsport, but ya know I liked the machines, and I loved being able to go 24/7. Now the machines have been consistently broken or the good ones have been removed, it's NO LONGER 24 HOURS, there's ZERO perceivable improvement in any other areas (weights are still a mess even though employees have time to reorganize after they close), and the membership is the same price! Why should we pay the same for less? I notified the staff one time of the smith machine in the corner being held up on only one side, the other side had a small pin on it which does not support the bar. This is a safety concern. They dragged their feet over to put a "do not use" sign on the machine. I came back to the gym a day or two later, sign was gone and it was in exactly the same setup as before. Great. Your voice will not be heard here, the lazy employees just sit on their phone.

I’ve been coming here for 10 years, and I’ve never been disgusted as I am now with the state of this gym. It is not 24 hours anymore and I’m paying the same rate. The pool has been closed for most of 2025 now. I’m still paying for it tho! The dumbbell racks are bone dry and nobody cleans. I had a microbiologist come in and swab the machines, I’m planning on using the results against corporate. The staff here say its not their problem.

There’s even a plate upstairs that someone puked on many years ago and it still has the dried up puke on it today. Absolutely ridiculous.

I’m really not sure how to rate this gym on a star scale. I’ve always been a loyalist to this gym specifically, but they really know how to bring it downhill. They got rid of some of my favorite machines like the forearm curl machine, vertical grip rows, spider grip rows, and high rows. Its absolutely a smack in the face they are not 24/7 anymore. I paid for 24/7. Nobody cleans up the weights and the staff don’t care. Theres a 45lb plate upstairs Ive dubbed “the puke plate” because it was freshly puked on in 2021. It’s solidified and still in circulation with the other plates. More gains I guess? The pool is always closed and the sauna always breaks. The only redeeming factors anymore is its huge, they expended on their island section getting rid of a classroom and expanding the gym area adding a turf. They also revived studio rights. Xsport tried, LA ruined it.

UPDATE 8/20/25
This place is falling apart. I went to the gym yesterday to get on the treadmill. The incline feature was not working so I informed the employee. Today, I attempted to use a different treadmill. This one had the same problem. It appears that when the gym switched from XSPORT the equipment was swapped out for junk. Again I informed the front desk employee who acted like she could be bothered. She should be fired! What does she do? She didn't greet me when I entered. She wasn't concerned about the issue with the equipment. When I requested a manager she lied and said "We don't have a manager." I informed her that I knew the entire corporation has managers. Then she gave me a name where I had to request her to write it down for me. She only scribbled Leilani. This was my favorite gym since 2009. Now it's just crap!

The gym is large with plenty of equipment. It is one of the best equipped gyms around. It's always clean and is cleaned frequently. Now, most of the patrons are ages 30 and under. Now the gym is HOT! I don't know the reason, but you start sweating after 15 minutes of working out. They need to change that immediately!

My concern is that the staff is no longer knowledgeable. It's all about selling packages and trying to get you to sign memberships no matter what. However, the training staff, in my opinion are for sedentary senior citizens. If you are an athlete of any kind, forget about it. Just because a person looks like an athlete and passed a test doesn't mean that they are an effective and knowledgeable personal trainer.

Don't try calling the corporate office for support unless you have an hour or two to just sit on the phone. I called them for weeks, let the phone ring forever before they answered. Usually, it's 10 minutes or more before they answer. They are effective in assisting you once they answer, but it takes so much time to get through.

So go for the equipment. Whatever you do DO NOT lock your wallet or other valuables in the lockers! Keep those at home or in your car. Bring only what you need for the workout, your car key, ID, and membership fob. You have been warned.

Ive been coming to this gym for almost 10 years only reason why I signed up here in the first place was because it was open 24/7 which was very important to me, although it wasnt the best gym it was better then LaFitness and always told myself I would never sign up for La... once I found out La bought out Xsport I knew they would ruin my gym after the transition they amount of people going to the gym got worse, the staff is rude, the supplements and drinks GONE, machines broken left and right, if its over 80 degrees outside good luck inside feels like 100 with the air so thick its hard to breathe and smells horrible, everythings moist and so is EVERYONE, oh yeah if you want to clean a machine youll be lucky if the new "wipes" they have are stocked! They took away all paper towel rolls and spray bottles And now the HOURSSSSSS!!! Is just plain ridiculous 🙄 I loved my late night workouts where I can actually workout and be able to use the machines I needed and it was convenient for those who work late hours. At least close every day at 12! HERES A SUGGESTION LA WITH ALLLL THE MONEY YOU MAKE OFF US, FIX THE AC, FIX THE MACHINES/UPGRADE, INVEST IN BETTER CLEANING SUPPLIES FOR MEMBERS TO USE!!!! Place REALLY went downhill after the “buyout” from LA Fitness. The gym is filthy — the smell hits you as soon as you walk in, like sweat, mildew, and regret. Half the machines are either broken or falling apart, and good luck finding a single dumbbell that’s not missing or out of place.

The sauna and steam room look and feel like they haven’t been cleaned in years. Honestly feels like you might walk out with a virus if you spend more than 5 minutes in there.

It’s clear no one is maintaining this place. I don’t expect luxury, but basic cleanliness and working equipment shouldn’t be too much to ask. This gym is hands down the most filthy, smelly, poorly ran facility Ive ever stepped into the fact that they are still operating blows my mind.

There are never any weights when you need them everything is scattered like a child's room.

The facility has mold growing in certain areas and its filled with a carpet that works great to hold all the stench and humidity.

Ask anyone that is a member about the smell and you will hear all types of stories as you cant even describe it using words it’s truly something you have to experience first hand. To describe it the best way I can its a mixture of urine, sweat and humidity.

There are never wipes, spray bottles, or anything to wipe down equipment. So its left up to you to to bring personal wipes and I recommend you do as I personally know five people who contracted skin diseases at this gym (ring worm)

The staff aswell is atrocious they don’t care for their job they’re just there to collect a check, the trainers attempt to coerce woman who are alone into training sessions because they could be easy to manipulate them which is a predatory business practice. I’ve also personally seen workers smoking weed and getting high in the parking lot before clocking in to their shift which quite honestly is the cherry on top to this review (if any management sees this your worker with a beard and long curly hair constantly smokes weed during shifts)

Beware of signing anything with trainers because they don’t respect their own contracts that say you can cancel within 3 days. Make sure they actually let you see the contract and not just make you put your initials on some pad.

Girls at the front used to all be friendly but whoever these new girls are they were so quick to say “YOU HAVE TO SCAN” when I had scanned less than 1 minute prior and was waiting for someone. No apology for their mistake. Why take our pictures if you’re not even bothering to check.

They tried to make my guest pay $20 to use the guest pass that I sent them.

They have 6 stair master machines and for months only 1 or 2 worked.

Don’t know if this is all LA fitness or only this location but the trainers are constantly trying to get people to sign up for a personal trainer. Coming up to you mid work out or always trying to pressure you no matter how many times you say “not right now.”

Beware. This gym as fancy as it seems the equipment, sana, pool, showers, lockers...are frequently broken or out of service. Men's locker is the equivalent of a bus or gas station bathroom. ( smells and dirty × 2). Was there Saturday 5/10/2024. Was there to use the pool. Locker room half the lockers broken. Went to the pool, the was a sign hot tub closed for repair. Swam for about 15 minutes with a few others when we are told the pool was closed. Asked where that was posted and said on the door. I asked when it would be open, he stated tomorrow. Asked hours for pool and he didn't know. On the way out there was a new sign on the door, Hot tub and pool, written in, on the door. Looked at the Sauna, not even a door or sign on it. Another member stated it hadn't been open for months, same as steam room. I just purchased my membership, because of these amenities. A 24 hour location that was dirty and everything unusable. With the money for a membership, you would think everything would be usable clean and fixed. If I knew that so many locations were this neglected, I would have gone to another company.

Nothing works. Weights are scattered everywhere, and most machines are missing pins. The sauna is always out of order, the place constantly smells terrible, and out of the four stair steppers, only one actually works. There’s zero organization or cleanliness. This gym has more equipment than most in the area, but it’s honestly ridiculous. Ever since LA Fitness took it over, nothing has improved—they just carried on with the same poor management. If they fixed the broken machines, added enough weights so each station is fully stocked, and kept the place clean, it would make a world of difference.

I’ve been a paying member at this gym for a long time, and I can confidently say the experience has only gotten worse — especially since LA Fitness took over. Despite numerous complaints, the punching bag has been in terrible condition for months. We’ve repeatedly asked for a replacement and have been continuously lied to with empty promises. Nothing has changed.

The management is part of the problem. They kept the same unresponsive managers who clearly do not care about members. I personally spoke with Max, the manager, who casually told me “by the end of the month” — yet here we are, and absolutely nothing has been done.

On top of that, the gym is consistently filthy. The pool and jacuzzi are almost always out of service, making it even more ridiculous considering how much we pay to be here.

This location is a complete disappointment. It’s clear that the management and ownership have no real interest in improving the facility or taking care of their members.

Save your money and your time — look elsewhere.

Do not recommend this location, gym is nice but when it comes to handling any issues with memberships. They don't know how to do so in a professional manner. After talking to corporate for la fitness they wanted to tell me it was going to be another way to cancel my membership, aha yeah no corporate had to talk to the girl to get the situation resolved. Listen to the customer....provide customer service not add to the situation by your behavior.

So here is my two cents. I am giving this gym 5 stars because their staff is cool and low drama. I am from out of state and was welcomed with a free day because their card machine went down. However, ownership needs to crack the whip around here. The weight rooms are an absolute mess! Dumbbells are never put away, plates are never re racked and there is a lot of trash, like empty water bottles, everywhere. The management needs to have the staff doing 30 minute walk arounds and they MUST set the standard that all weights are replaced or the member will be asked to leave. After a couple heads roll the standard will change and the rating will start going up. Poor gym etiquette will keep serious gym goers away and will only bring in the wrong kind of clientele. Otherwise this gym is really well appointed. Tons of equipment and a good location, just needs better management and if they did their card machine would not have been down and I would not have had a free day, which I should not have got if proper management was in place.

Gym Rules aren’t enforced which would be fine if the staff ever got up to re rack weights or maybe clean the benches. Most of the time, you can’t tell if a bench or squat rack is in use because the previous user decided to leave 2-4 plates on either side out of laziness. There has been a 45 lb plate racked on a top pin of a squat rack for at least two months now. It’s probably still there. If you want to fix the gym, pay someone to walk around and enforce rules and ensure weights are properly stowed and respected. Also leave out more spray bottles and rags. Every time I went into this place I feel like I’m going to get ringworm.

Where do I start with this gym… I am a white fit male that went to go get a workout in on America’s birthday and was stopped at the desk from entering. The extremely out of shape manager told me that I can’t workout with my friend because my 7 day free trail doesn’t apply on a holiday… what benefit does he get from not letting me in to workout? COMPLETE SCAM!! BEWARE! I went to cancel my membership over a month ago and my card continued to be charged. After I went in the day after my card was wrongly charged. The person at the desk “cancelled” my membership but yet I still never received any notification that it was officially cancelled so I come in AGAIN to now hear that I have $50 in additional charges before I cancel after I already did over a month ago… do not go to this gym, take your money elsewhere.

I regret coming to this strange shady unprofessional location to sign up to become a member twice. As l was followed there...the staff member stated l could not sign up last week using my insurance because the manager Cody wasn't there to sign me up which was very interesting and definitely a LIE. So l went back yesterday and spoke with Cody who told me that should not have happened and l knew the unprofessional guy lied and that's why l went back to prove my point!! The guy Cody put me with was so annoying and SHADY...HE ILLEGALLY/ DECEPTIVELY TOOK A PICTURE OF MY DRIVER'S LICENSE USING HIS OWN CELL PHONE AS I WAS LOOKING FOR MY INSURANCE CODE. THAT IS EXACTLY WHY STOOD UP AND TOLD HIM I CHANGED MY MIND AND HE GAVE ME BACK MY DRIVER'S LICENSE AND INSURANCE CARD AND I QUICKLY LEFT OUT THAT UNPLEASANT SHADY GYM.

VERY DISAPPOINTED AND THE WORST EXPERIENCED I HAVE EVER HAD AT ANY GYM SETTING.

I joined XSport over 20 years ago when it opened in Chicago Ridge. Over the years they have made many positive changes. The one change they have never made is keeping the Cardio Machines running the way they are suppose to. Please hire someone to service these machines.

I participated in my first Zumba class on yesterday. The instructor was amazing! His energy and vibe was amazingly perfect!
Being a retiree and sitting around for the last two years, I've decided to start using my membership that I'm paying for but not using. My home XSPORT is Lyons due to that one is closer to my former job. This one is closer to home. The locker room is antiquated in comparison. Although signs are up about the wristband requirement they're not being used or checked.
Why am I paying for a Super Pass membership? I'm wasting my money.

I Came into this location to sign up..I was talking with Ramon , he did NOT explain the charges in its entirety to me. After he charged my card then he basically threw me out the door, then told me oh you’ll be charged xyz next week ! Like no! That was not explained prior to you getting my card information! However I decided to cancel ! He got so mad and told me he’ll pay me back out of his pocket! Which was very insulting and distasteful! I feel like he disrespected me in so many ways!
