I have been an LA Fitness member since before the pandemic. Since then, my usage has decreased significantly; I now only visit a few times a year. I currently pay approximately $1,200 annually, covering a multi-club membership ($55/month), personal training ($39.99/month), and an annual fee ($49). I particularly enjoy the cycling classes offered. On November 22, 2025, I visited the Lake Zurich club with my daughter, who holds a separate membership at the Arlington Heights location. The sales manager, Ryan Schultz, required my daughter to pay a $10 guest fee because she was not a member of the specific Lake Zurich club. To attend the class on time, I paid the fee. Following the class, I attempted to discuss the matter with Ryan. He stated he was on a conference call and busy. I informed him of my decision to cancel my membership, and he didn’t give me the time of day. The front desk successfully canceled my general membership but could not cancel the personal training portion. When they attendant asked Ryan for assistance, Ryan just told him it was cancelled. To add insult to injury, Ryan provided his name and the club number on the back of a free 3-Day pass card, while playing LL Cool J’s “I am going to knock you out” into the phone of his alleged conference call. In the long run, I think Ryan did me a favor. Did I ask for an exception for my daughter? 100% Did LA Fitness lose $1,200 in annual fees? 100% You tell me who got the better deal.

Place equipped with old and malfunctioning equipment that will easily get you hurt. Overall semi clean and stinky. In the morning hours get crowded and broken machines get never fixed.

I am a guy who knows quite a bit about gym equipment, the layout of space, and the environment. I really enjoy going to this gym because it's not crowded, and I really appreciate the layout of this gym. The cleaning staff really does an awesome job of cleaning and replenishing supplies. I gave this place 4 stars because of the front desk staff. There are 2 guys that are definitely a pleasure to have as the engage with people entering and leaving! Anyone else at that desk is looking down at the phone and not vigilant, and are non responsive while their faces say a lot as well. Enough about that! While the equipment is older, it's still very good pieces here that other LA fitness places don't have like the seated hammer strength shoulder press machines, and the front leg press machines.

My boyfriend and I came in today to check out LA Fitness after being recommended by a friend. Jackie helped us right away and she was amazing—so kind, knowledgeable, and straight to the point. She took time to understand our goals, walked us through the nationwide network of gyms, and really made us feel welcome. She absolutely nailed the experience.

Unfortunately, the General Manager came over midway through and completely killed the vibe. He didn’t add anything helpful and just repeated everything Jackie had already explained. I even tried to compliment her work and politely dismiss him, but he wouldn’t take the hint and kept pushing. Honestly, it felt more like a sales ambush than a conversation.

Trust your team. Jackie was more than capable on her own.

Personal training with Alven is a must! He is patient and understanding yet pushes me to do more and lift heavier. After a few months of sessions, I have noticed I'm more toned all over. And I can do a plank, something I haven't been able to do in years!! All thanks to Alven and his personal training sessions.

I have been training with Jacob for a little over four months now and truthfully couldn’t have picked a better trainer to help me on my fitness journey. I haven’t been working out or doing anything in a gym in over 10 years and Jacob is the type of trainer that helps you understand the importance of every exercise we are doing and pushing you to feel better about yourself working out. Because of Jacob, I can confidently say that he has not only improved my life but also is a champion to continue my success in working out. If you need a trainer I wouldn’t pick anyone else! I have been a member for about five years at LA Fitness. I have been training with Jacob S. for a couple of weeks now, and really enjoying his style of training. He’s has trained and taught me new exercises and techniques that I can do when working out on my own.Grip training is one example. It was my first time seriously going to a gym. As a teenager I've seen people online doing fancy things and I was very confused on what to do how often and why. My dad signed me up for only 4 personal training sessions. In those 4 days that I got to schedule alven diaz a trainer there taught me everything I needed to know. From warmups to amount of sets and reps days I should come. Not only that he also pushed me to become better. Not the kind of pushing that makes you want to quit but the kind that helps you blossom into the lifter you are. Overall five stars

Practically no AC, it was too hot in this gym in the main weight room and cardio area. The cardio machines are old and on verge of breaking down. The patrons do not clean the equipment after use. Some staff members are rude as well. I can not in good faith recommend this gym at this price.

My son went and was interested in using their pool. The manager their tricked my son by telling him sure he can sign up now and if he changes his mind he could cancel in 7 days. That was a lie. He had him pay and when my son decided to cancel the management their told him he couldn’t and lost his money to them.

I come to this location mainly because the Arlington Heights gym doesn’t have a sauna. But honestly, most of the equipment are outdated. I’m still trying to understand why there’s carpet in a gym where people sweat constantly…it just doesn’t make sense… it’s so unsanitary and if they removed the carpet this place would be more elevated and feel more clean. I will say the front desk staff is friendly and welcoming which I appreciate but overall this place just doesn’t feel worth what I’m paying.

I highly recommend Alven Diaz as a personal trainer. I have experienced a number of trainers at a variety of locations, and am very impressed with Alven. He has turned out to be just what I was looking for. He is conscious about form, knowledgeable and constantly fine tuning the workout to gain maximum benefit. Also, he is professional in using every minute efficiently—he is not on his phone or participating in side conversations. This location is actually farther for me than the others, but because of his training, I choose to go to this location. Thank you

The front desk workers are always friendly. The place is constantly being cleaned. Whether it’s the bathroom, gym floor, mirrors…maintenance is constantly cleaning something.

The equipment gets the job done. There’s nothing I need that I don’t have here. You could find more at a dedicated weightlifting gym but that’s not the market they’re competing in.

For $40 a month I really doubt you can do better than this. I don’t think all LA Fitness locations are like this, which says a lot about the people who work here.

I was visiting my family members in Lake Zurich, for the weekend and we wanted to try this new gym around town when we went inside. The general manager was really helpful. I generally recommend anyone to come in and try their three day free trial and actually get to know the gym more. Getting told 4 words, “we’re closed, get out”, by the newly employed front desk worker Lily, has been the most disrespectful encounter I’ve had in 2 consecutive Sundays in my 30 years of being a member. Not only does she not smile, but she seems to really dislike her position. If that’s not the case, she might be taking out personal issues on customers. I’ve been frequenting this club for 7 years. Along with my whole family & many friends that also attend this facility. It doesn’t have the best or cleanest equipment. If it takes a newly employed attitude problem to get me to cancel our memberships & take my family & friends with me, this employee will have done what she perceives was her “job duty”. I don’t mind paying more for better service. All customers deserve better. Change is always good. Whoever is training the new staff, please regroup your process to promote retention. Unhinged employees are a disgrace to the company values & corporate branding. If anybody would like to follow up with me, I would be happy to provide more details. There’s a proper way to talk to a customer that demonstrates a certain level of professionalism. Aggressive, disrespectful, & condescending directives is not the way.

The location has no sufficient personal trainers. They dont have coverage for all times. The personal trainers expect clients to have no emergencies and they will not reschedule sessions. I understand 24-hour cancellation policy, but emergency happens, and they need to accommodate emergency needs of the client. If you need personal trainer i would recommend other locations with decent number of trainers available providing coverage at all times. This place is not for personal training due to lack of personal trainers available and flexibility of the trainers. Very disappointed with the customer service.

It was nice place but some of the people doesn’t understand gyms rules, every time when I try to use sauna one person from Russia putting some mint crystal on the top of the hot rocks, a lot of people complained and trying to explain him not to do it , showed him the sign about it but nothing works , his name is Igor he was there around 10:30am looks like 50-60 years old , he is ignoring all of complaints from people around and saying it’s healthy but he doesn’t know what ingredients inside that crystal, please check the sauna randomly and cancel the membership for this kind of people because you gonna lose more people if you’ll keep ignoring the problem

I've been a member of LA fitness through Silver Sneakers for some time, and while I appreciate the membership price break, that's about the only good thing I can say for this partnership. When I first started going to the gym in 2018 or so, the bathroom smelled like sewer gas; I reported it to the front desk a couple of times. After I'd report it, for a couple of days, the bathroom would smell cleaner... But then the odor would return, eventually spreading clear to the pool area. (!) Then, the gym shut down for COVID, and when it reopened, everything smelled clean and fresh... For a while. But that didn't last.

I can't help thinking there's a major problem here that is not being addressed. Between that and the way things get filthy on Sunday afternoons (one time I saw a huge hairball stuck to the wall outside the pool shower), this place has become such a turn off that I can't bring myself to come back. And considering that this kind of thing has recurred repeatedly over several years...? Someone's not taking things seriously here. Not recommended.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of joining LA Fitness, and let me tell you, it was a complete nightmare from start to finish. It all started when I was approached by a sales manager named Jonathan, who got me in with promises of a reduced price initiation fee that was supposedly on sale. Feeling optimistic, albeit somewhat hesitant, I reluctantly signed up, agreeing to pay for the first month and the initiation fee upfront.

Little did I know, Jonathan conveniently failed to mention a couple of crucial details. First and foremost, I was blindsided by additional charges for a "first and last due" that mysteriously appeared on my bill, costing me an extra $70 on top of the initial $60 I had just shelled out. To add insult to injury, just when I thought I had finally gotten past the initial financial hit, I was hit with another unexpected charge a week later—a whopping $60 for an annual fee. Keep in mind, I hadn't even been a member for two weeks yet, and already I was being hit with hidden fees left and right.

When I mustered up the courage to confront Jonathan about these egregious charges, he had the audacity to insist that he had mentioned them during our initial conversation. But here's the kicker: not only did Jonathan conveniently forget to disclose these charges upfront, but he also had the nerve to rush me through the sign-up process, practically shoving the contract in my face and urging me to sign without so much as a second glance.

Needless to say, I was beyond disappointed by the lack of transparency and poor customer service exhibited by LA Fitness. It's one thing to charge fair and reasonable fees for membership, but it's quite another to sneakily tack on hidden charges and then refuse to make things right when confronted. Suffice it to say, I'll be taking my hard-earned money—and my business—elsewhere. Consider this a cautionary tale to anyone considering joining LA Fitness: proceed with caution, or risk being taken for a ride by their shady sales tactics and deceptive practices.

He proceeded to shoot his selling tactics at me and told me “I would only get a guest pass if I was his friend” and that “he only lets his friends use the guest passes anytime”. Absolutely awful gym! Bill you each month but can't keep up with simple maintenance. Hot tub hasn't been working in at least 3 weeks. So many machines out of order. Tried to take my nephew today to shoot around and the front desk girl came up with any excuse not to let him in. 1st, she said I don't have guest pass priveleges. Then, she said I can pay $20 for 1 time access. Then said the $20 will be good for 24 hrs. When I asked her to waive the fee this one time, she completely denied entry because of liability reasons. Very unclean with hair, dust bunnies, and dirt collecting around equipment. Is often crowded by high schoolers who just stand around a talk for the most part. Bathrooms smell like rancid urine constantly.

Lots of broken equipment. The handlebars on the pull-up bars have been ripped up for over a year. I’ve asked them if it could be fixed and they said they told the manager. Nothing has come of that for months.

Staff is lazy, and at times aren’t manning the front desk or cafe area. One told me they didn’t feel like opening up the cafe for me to buy a water.

Dont go!!! All they care about is money. We have been there few years ago. Canceling membership was pretty difficult process. Recently my wife visited to get a quote on trainer fees. End of the day one of the trainers misbehaved and she left and was very upset from the humiliation and the whole process. Came on 5/29/2023, Memorial Day, the app says they are opened until 4. Doors are locked and it’s 3:15pm. Gentleman answered the phone and said they close in 15min and I mentioned the app says 4. Nice facility but it would be nice if people re-racked their weight. Many younger college and high school aged kids just standing around chatting while not utilizing equipment. It does get old trying to hunt down dumbbells' and curl bars not where they belong and not in use on the other side of the gym. In the 2+ years I've been going there I've only once seen an employee putting away errant equipment. I do have one suggestion, invest in one of those bathing suit spinners to dry off suits after using the pool, they are VERY convenient.

All mats and foam rollers are atleast 5-7 years old, half the stairmasters have been out of service for >3 months, the treadmills are very old and falling apart (walking pads are all loose), if you do get mat space there is room for 4-6 people max and there are 4 foam rollers in the entire gym. I encourage anyone else who is frustrated with this to switch to Barrington Park District gym. That’s my plan because it’s half the price per month with way more to offer. So excited to leave LA fitness.

I really enjoy going to this gym. The facilities are kept clean and paper towels and disinfectant are easily available throughout. Most of the adult patrons are respectful and wipe the equipment after use. Maintenance people do a good job and are friendly and helpful.
Some things that could be improved are the equipment maintenance (3 out of 6 stair machines have been broken for what seems like 6 months, water fountains dispense slowly), staff patron interactions (not all, but some staff are plain rude), and questionable machine purchase/replacement priorities.
Overall, this gym offers good value for its customers.

Personally, my biggest issue with this location is that they don't have set schedules for when they close down the sauna. It has happened 3 times to me now that I've driven to the gym strictly for the sauna and the employee is just in there cleaning it. When I asked the front desk if there's a set schedule for when they would be cleaning it, I'm given the same response everytime. "Theres no schedule now, We can make sure a schedule is made for cleaning it" ... maybe third times the charm...

The pricier membership that “Allows you to enter any other LA Fitness” is completely fake. I went to 2 other clubs, and they stated I have to switch over my membership to use their gym. This meant I would have to play the lucrative annual and initiation fee again. If you can afford it, go Lifetime. If not go to a local gym or Planet Fitness.

I have been training with Irina for the last 6 months. She has been fantastic. I am very sad she is moving to another gym. She is very knowledgeable and makes adjustments for what I can't do. I always get my full amount of training time and a variety of workouts. I have made so much progress working with her. She is a loss for the gym.
The only negative I have to say is the gym is kept way too hot and their equipment needs to be better kept up.

This the worst gym I have ever been a member at. Machines are always broken !! They have six stair master at least 3 of them are always broken. This Week only two of them work!! Very frustrating

Love this place, it's close, the price is fair, and Ryan the staff member that opens at 5am is so friendly, he knows everyone, greets everyone with a great attitude and takes the time to talk to people and assist them whenever needed, Liz also greets everyone with a good morning and is very friendly, place is clean, weekends are great too, wish they opened earlier than 8, but still better than over priced gyms for my needs.

This is by far the best La fitness in the area. The cleanest and nicest staff. I will drive an extra 15 min to to come to this location. The staff is awesome and Luis is exceptional! Always in a good mood and greeting. Definitely recommend anyone to come to this location

This place is everything I am looking for in a fitness facility. I live much close to the AH facility but the quality of this location is worth the extra travel time.

The front desk staff is decently friendly. The training staff ACTUALLY LISTENS to you. The Manager is “present” in the best of ways.

The space is bright and spacious which helps with your mood while exercising.

After committing to training (financially & personally) at the AH and having a horrendous experience, it is wonderful to love workouts again!

It’s hotter inside the gym then outside on a 80 degree day. They never turn on the AC until mid summer and as soon as you walk in you sweat which I would say is a bit annoying when working out. Rude entitled trainers.

Facility is a disaster when I arrive at 5am (garbage overflowing, weights all over). Luis has an uphill battle when he arrives in the morning, but immediately starts to clean and does a phenomenal job getting the facility clean. Ryan helps pick up the weights left on the floor from the night before. LA needs a night worker to clean up after close so it is clean when the club opens.

I have a negative experience canceling my membership. I came in to cancel and take a loss on personal training in the amount of almost a thousand dollars. I came in to cancel my membership they only canceled my personal training and kept charging me for my membership for another 5 months before I noticed and wouldn’t refund those months. Why would I cancel my personal training after paying infact closer to$1500.00 and keep my membership. The whole reason was because I was canceling my account. I normally wouldn’t care but after taking a loss on all that money I shouldn’t have to pay for those membership months.

Luis keeps the establishment running clean and safe! Literally someone must’ve lifted a little too hard that they ripped off the dial for the sauna in the mens locker room. Luis ordered and fixed it within 48 hours. I’ve been to many gyms and worked at another LA Fitness briefly. Their saunas were dirty and door handles broken for months. Not here. Thank you for all that you do, Luis and the rest of the staff.

They need to enforce, being more strict w people wearing their masks. What’s the point of asking at the front desk for the mask when people takes them off right in front of them? Maintenance/Housekeeping are the hardest workers here. Management should be more strict about costumers cleaning the equipment.

Chicago’s LAF are way better and more clean this club is becoming dirtier and dirtier and again it’s not the housekeeping it’s the costumers..

This place is really all you can ask for considering the membership only costs about a dollar a day. I’ve had very limited communication with the staff by choice l, as I like to get in and out, but I say hello to Luis just about every morning while he is extremely busy cleaning the locker room and gym areas to make sure they are suitable for the patrons. It’s nice and reassuring to see that kind of work-ethic these days.
