I used to really like this gym, it had a sauna that approached 180°F quickly and stayed there and it was the pivotal reason I joined this gym vs the old XSport. However for the past few months the sauna has been struggling to reach 120°F and it is incredibly disappointing. Any time there are service issues it takes forever to correct it. XSport managed to be better about it being open 24/7, but LA Fitness can't do it with limited hours. It's an expensive membership too so it's doubly as disappointing.

I used to really like this LA Fitness in Mundelein, but lately it’s become quite noisy and crowded. The hand dryers are very loud, especially in the small restroom area, and people end up talking even louder. I understand the effort to save paper, but it would be nice to keep paper towels on at least one side of the locker room, just like in the bathroom.
There are a few unused rooms near the cycling area-using those might help with the crowding. I don’t come here as often anymore, though I still stop by for the Women-Only whirlpool. However, one day I noticed a young girl and a guy together there.

I have been a loyal member of this gym for over a year, primarily drawn to the facility because of its high-quality sauna, which was consistently maintained at 180°F and served as a key recovery tool following my workouts. Unfortunately, over the past two months, the sauna has been either completely out of service or operating well below standard, failing to reach even 160°F on most occasions.
This consistent underperformance has significantly diminished the value of my membership, as the sauna is central to my post-workout routine and overall wellness goals. I would appreciate prompt attention from management to restore this essential amenity to full working order and ensure reliable temperature control moving forward.

I was here September 7, 2025 12:50pm with my two kids. At the desk staff she introduced herself as a manager Yeyas (I have doubts about it). She noticed I can’t go inside with my two kids because my membership doesn’t allow that, I could go inside with one my kid, which I did. I went out later with one and came back with another my kid. But Yeyas said where is my first kid, she requested to call him…I went out with my son. She even didn’t check cameras and blamed me for braking the rules and it was rude…Please administration of this location take care and educate about trust, respect to members

I'll start off with the final reason I'm dropping LA and leaving this review.

The one time I've tried to bring a guest and I'm unable to. Their garbage app (understand thats not this locations issue) was not working, and we were unable to set up a guest pass prior to arrival. Figure whatever, we'll just show up and make it work like every other gym. Not the case, front desk lady was nice but she had to ask the manager and he said no. How stupid is that? This isnt a cheap gym to attend, and y'all can't allow a guest in once?

Otherwise this gym is just not worth it, they charge a premium for subpar services. Half the time the men's hot tub is frigid. Sauna is very tired, many loose pieces of wood, and exposed metal. Major hazard for anything, especially a sauna.

Hot water went down for close to a month, pool/sauna close with no warning as well. Unexpected closings of the entire facility with no warning either. Seriously? You get our phone number and email when we sign up.

You're better off with literally any other chain gym.

XSport was better, exponentially. That place was bottom of the barrel, but they knew their worth. This company, and location need to check their ego.

I’ve been an LA Fitness member for over 14 years, and what happened recently was completely unacceptable. I arrived 25 minutes before closing, and the manager, Javier, made eye contact with me and locked the door, refusing to let me in. Another member who was leaving the club let me in. When I questioned Javier, he escalated the situation and called the police on me.

How is LA Fitness corporate allowing clubs to close early and deny paying members access? Javier’s actions were unprofessional, disrespectful, and completely out of line. He must be held accountable—this kind of behavior is tarnishing the company’s image. I will be canceling my membership and contacting corporate directly.

Fairly clean overall. Many workout options. Not a very long wait for machines to get fixed when broken down. Most people here are serious about their workout and only a few sit there on their cell phones doing nothing but taking up a spot. I really like this gym overall — it has great equipment, a spacious cardio area, clean lockers, and a comfortable changing room. However, one thing that really stands out is the cleanliness of the equipment itself, especially in the CrossFit zone. The tire and plyo boxes are often so dirty that my shoes get stained just from light contact during exercises like Bulgarian split squats. In the photo, I had only done one set of squats while leaning on the box — and my shoes were already dirty. I’ve also noticed dust and dirt accumulating in the corners. I hope the cleaning standards can be improved, because everything else about the gym is excellent.

I switched to this gym at the end of 2024, and it was one of the best decisions I made last year! It’s a small gym, but the layout is excellent, with plenty of basic equipment, many of which are duplicated—a definite plus! Of course, it gets crowded during the evening hours, but that’s the case everywhere.

The gym is very clean, and the staff is friendly.
The price is fantastic, especially considering it includes access to the gym, pool, sauna, and hot tub.

A few downsides:
• The pool water is heavily chlorinated, but given how many people use it daily, I can’t complain too much about that. 😅
• There are no hair dryers in the gym with a pool—not a single one! For me, it feels like too much to carry gym clothes, swim gear, and a hair dryer from home. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Manager closed the pool 30 minutes before gym closing today, citing a rule that I had never seen posted, let alone ever enforced. Manager had to stand in pool area ordering everyone out, despite multiple swimmers needing to get in their exercise routines, and no one needing 30 minutes to shower & change. Pool consistently closes 15 minutes before gym closing, as I know from experience. If they have a 30-minute rule for pool closing, this should be posted both on the website and at gym entrance and the pool entrance. Very poor customer service.

At first this gym was very nice, but with LA buying out and closing xsport it is now over crowded. My mother bought a two year membership specifically to xsport for their classes and trainers one week before the gym was bought out. Now that gym is closed and LA won’t refund her membership.

She’s been going to the classes at LA but there is not enough room to accommodate everyone. There isn’t enough equipment, the dumbbells for the classes aren’t heavy enough and there’s not enough from for all the people coming in. The trainers working these classes do not correct any form. Motivate the people in the class and do not perform the workouts with the rest of the class, which makes the classes not enjoyable

Since she can’t get a refund she is now stuck going to a gym that isn’t working for her for another two years.

A lot of the people who workout here are work from home type and would like to be on a call when on treadmill or elliptical or bicycling
Can you please not play the music during work hours say 9am-3pm?? everyone is wearing their headphones anyway.
That would be a great favor to people who would like to combine work and work out at your Gym.

This new gym added competition to other gyms in the area and that’s the only good about it in my opinion.
They keep huge fans and blowers on at all time blasting cold air at you causing cramps and my muscles to lock up

This gym also lacks some of basics machines like sleeping ab rocker, body stretching machine, etc.

I’ve been going to this gym for around 6-7 months now and my first reaction to the gym was decent. It’s a really clean gym with great gear and machines. But the staff at the time was the worst. If you weren’t giving them commission they didn’t care about u. Luckily those guys are gone but I started working with this one Trainer who was a great trainer! He ended up getting promoted and then I got stuck with 2 of the worst trainers I’ve ever met. First one couldn’t be off his phone for longer than 5 minutes and was always forgetting to count my reps or actually explain what workout I was doing. I never received long term plans or homework unless I asked. The second guy didn’t listen when I said the workouts were hurting in a bad way and kept going til I threw out my back.

Overall, I would skip the training. At one point I even had a trainer that went out of town and was stuck with a different guy. I guess he took my phone number wrong and decided instead of reaching out to my
Original trainer or looking at my account, he just wasn’t gonna reach out to schedule. When I called, they couldn’t get me in contact with him. When my original trainer came back no one reached out to say “hey I’m back let’s get you scheduled”.

Eventually I had to cancel my training to help support family instead and was promised over and over I wouldn’t be charged in December. Well I got charged and no one has been able to help me.

Save yourself the headache and money don’t get the training here.

I’m giving this gym 5 stars because of the Sunday Morning Zumba class I started going to with my mom. I forget the instructors name but she is amazing! It is December 1. I just dropped my 15-year-old daughter off at the gym only to have her call me five minutes later to come pick her up because they said that her membership expired, and the girl at the desk told her she had to leave the building...it's 25° outside. I immediately turned around to pick her up and on the way I called and asked them how this was possible. All the way back to the gym they still couldn't figure it out. I walked in, and again she entered my daughter's phone number. Then she said "Oh that was my mistake. It doesn't expire until December 20th."
Your customer service sucks! Even if her membership had expired, who tells a 15-year-old they have to leave the building?

Manager is extremely rude , I usually attend the LA Fitness in Libertyville (which was originally Xsport) ever since LA Fitness has taken over they have tried to take multiple payment from my account , when my membership is already paid for that month .
When I try to talk to somebody no one can help me this is why I was prompt to call the location in Mundelein , but that was a big mistake because the manager was rude and would not let me talk , and when I told her she is being rude she said “sorry about that” but continue being even more rude.

I have been a member for about three years. Never had this situation happened to me until LA Fitness took over. I am going to cancel my membership and just go with another gym because, spending my hard earn money I should not be treated this way. On weekends they close at 7pm but apparently they lock the gates at 6.45pm. I had swung by for a 15 min elliptical session at 6.45 pm and the harassment was unbelievable. The receptionist said she has been trained by her manager to lock the gates at 6.45 and she cannot allow me to work out. When I asked to see the written policy about doors being locked 15 mins before close time, she variously said “Are you teaching me how to do my job”
“Get out of my club” “I can call the cops if you are here after 7pm”. She also blew me a kiss in an insolent gesture as I was leaving at 6.58. (She later lied about the kiss in front of her manager so I wouldnt be surprised if they publish some dishonest response on my review). Her behavior was so rude that its actually ludicrous and I an intrigued to learn more about a culture thar creates this type of horrendous customer service! It is a fun social science experience 😂. Was this a one off incident or is the staff consistently rude? Surely there must be some nice polite staff or are they all like this lady? I was wearing basic off brand gym clothes and drove there in my beaten up Honda Civic. Would they have treated me better if I had won branded clothes and driven a luxury car? Should I work one on one with a fitness trainer just to learn more about their execrable customer service standards? Would they be more courteous if they could earn tips? But shouldn’t tips be reward for exceptional service instead of bribe to stop obnoxious behavior? I think these could be valuable business and management lessons. Lastly, ask to management - if the policy is indeed that entry to the club stops 15 mins before actual closing time, please update the information on your website! Genuinely curious! 👀

Hi, My experience with this gym membership management was the worst worst experience I've ever had in my life.

I was informed that I may terminate my personal training program at any moment when I joined up. I had a legitimate explanation from my Job manager why my project is ended, which is why I lost my job.

I tried explaining my financial situation to the manager at GYM, They were talking to me very rude and saying that I needed to pay half of the costs now, but they weren't even paying attention to what i wanted to explain. I encountered racism since I'm Asian, I received no respect being a customer to them – I used to pay 650$.

Everyone has time to chat with me while I'm paying $650 a month, but no one had time to talk when I showed up to the gym and asking them to end my membership.

I’m writing this review because it may help someone and they wouldn’t face the same situation I faced.

Note: People at front desk are good but not the Manager at Front desk(She is very rude and Disrespectfull). I had problem only with management who signed me up the Membership.( I don’t want to mention their name but please be careful when you signup the membership).

On Tuesday, August 20th, I went to the Mundelein LA Fitness Center with a friend. My friend is a long-time member. She sent me a link for a 7 day trial from her app. I filled out the information, and received my email from LA Fitness with my 7 day pass. I was looking forward to trying classes & other offerings at this fitness center, then probably becoming a member after the 7 days. Unfortunately, my trial wasn’t to be. Upon arrival, I was directed to go to the sales rep to “get registered”. He asked to see the email with the trial info on my phone, I showed it to him, he scrolled through the email. When he was done reading it, he said, “sorry, we can’t honor this”. I’m sorry, what!?!? He first claimed he was unable to verify anything, then said that his manager said they weren’t honoring any trial passes. He was very rude to us, and even tried to sell me a membership, lol. FYI to him: this is NOT how you get people to join your gym!! I would never join somewhere that treats their customers / members with this level of disrespect. There are many other gyms in this area, and I’ll bet that if you continue to treat potential & current members the way we were treated, you won’t be in business very long. Meantime, my friend called another LA Fitness in the area to ask if they would honor the 7 day trial, and they said, “of course we honor those!”. So everyone reading this, beware of the Mundelein LA Fitness. To say they’re sketchy would be an understatement.

As facilities and equipment go, this is a decent gym. Lots of room to work with, and nice amenities. My only complaint is that the music blasts in the locker rooms, so it's hard to chat with people or talk on the phone. But the people who work here...yikes. It's all ease and smiles until you want out. I signed up and then wanted to immediatly cancel to switch over to a rewards program through my insurance, and the guy I had to interact with kept giving me the work around. Cancellations can only be in person, then it has to be during these specific hours, and then he said only he could cancel and set me up with the new contract. Told me he was off the following day, no written proof that I had cancelled, just verbal. Couldn't even print something for me. I was worried since I was liable for paying a penalty fee if I didn't cancel prior to the date he was returning. So I went by the following day to talk with someone else, just to make sure they saw proof that I had cancelled, and there he was. He got angry when I expressed confusion to him being there. Accused me of harassing him for previously having a few follow-up questions? At that point, I was done, and despite LA's ridgid rules, he made an exception for me and cancelled right there. Sales people are supposed to attract potential customers, not drive them away with shady tactics and emotional responses, right? So that was my brief experience. Again, decent gym, but not worth dealing with the sales people.

This is the cleanest gym I’ve ever been too. The cleaning crew is amazing and I see them every morning busting their butts. I literally live 12 mins from round lake LA, but drive 25 mins to come to this particular one. All of the machines are in good condition and I don’t feel gross in the locker room. For a few feedback things, the wipes to wipe the machines down are basically dry before you even get to the machine. They also are kind of inconveniently placed, so I do notice a lot of people just won’t even wipe down. Also in the showers, it would be cool to have a little shower head rack. That way I don’t have to have my soaps and what not on the floor. ALSO LETS TALK ABOUT SATURDAYS.. it’s so hard for the people that work at 8 am to get a work out. I have a LA fitness next to where I live. However I drive 16 mins to this location just because it’s newly opened and upgraded fitness equipments. They are always on top of cleaning and maintaining their equipment and the place overall. Lot of natural light, doesn’t make you feel groggy. Pool is clean and hot water jacuzzi actually works.

Clean! That’s about it……

Cheapest commercial equipment you can buy, and although the gym is only about 6months old, things are starting to break already (some machines you cannot select the weight you want because the cheap locking mechanisms jam).
Lots of people camping on the equipment, reserving it for when they’ll need it 10min from now.

Half the stair-climbing machines the heart rate says you’re either at 200bpm or at 130 with zero in-between.

Lack of decent clip on pcs for the cable weights. You have to hunt for them if say someone took one to another cable machine.

The showers have less water pressure than my backyard sprinkler, and they use the cheapest soap you can think of (takes around 10pumps just to get a lather to wash your hair, around 80 pumps for a decent lather for whole-body).

I expected a lot more for $50/month when you can get the exact same stuff for $11/month at XSport.

But they do keep the place clean, I’ll definitely give them that..
they also have a really good dumbbell section, although they didn’t plan it out very well since people trip over each other due to the benches being so close to the dumbbell racks.

Originally purchased a pass to the Round lake location
Obtained a new position, as in career, in a different location
Mundelein LA fitness became on the way to my new work
I spoke with the manager and was told I could transfer (1 time courtesy or I could pay 99$ to upgrade) from Round lake to Mundelein VHS so I chose the courtesy
I adhered to the rules, used the mundelein location multiple times for a full week when I was told the decision was reversed. Disappointed in the service here. I wasn’t even allowed to work out on the occasion I was spoken to. I drove all this way and they didn’t let me even get a quick work out in. I understand protocol that’s alright but that was my tipping point, what difference would it have made if I were to run on the treadmill for 20 minutes. Will likely cancel membership. Not the type to write reviews ever but exceptionally bad service.

Very short hours on the weekend, wish it opened by at least 6am. Only offers 1 mat pilates class a week. No yoga on Sat, Sun, or Mon.

My review would be much higher if the 2 aforementioned things were changed.

As for the secondary issues, it tends to get quite crowded (has only been increasing), does not have towels, most classes offered during work hours, and there is little space to use free weights - either stand in front of the dumbbells or block a bench. For the price, you’d expect better. It’s a little disappointing.

They took my drivers liscence and refused to give it back unless I signed up for their annual membership
Sketchy business practices and rude staff

Brand new facility and perfect on my budget. Really has everything that I need for a great workout and to then relax and rejuvenate in the hot tub and sauna. Super clean facility, great new Nautilus equipment, plenty of free weights, tons of new aerobic training machines and extra large area to stretch. Excellent Staff and a big shout out to Isaiah who helped me get moving on the process of getting fit once again. He's the man to see.

I’m new to this gym and I really enjoy it. Typically not a fan of large chain gyms, but this one has been a pleasant surprise. It fully stocked with new equipment, a lot of room and other members are good to be around. Not many knuckleheads. The facility is also very clean and well kept. Rated: strongly recommend.

If you are looking for a gym with a friendly vibe don't bother coming here. Bill was incredibly rude to my girlfriend and I. I would go more into it but I'll just say I had to ask the front desk for his name because he didn't even introduce himself to us. After 10 minutes of warming up we didn't feel welcome and decided to leave. All they have is garbage nautilus equipment so good luck getting a good pump.

Horrible customer service, Bill was so rude to my friends and I. He told my friend that he NEEDED to hold her ID while she worked out. I’ve never heard of that. So disappointed and the women at the desk was absolutely useless. Overall, horrible experience.

Decent enough ‘no-frills’ gym. It has pretty much everything that I need to get a good workout. The pool is never crowded and a lane is always available.

The members are VERY young though, in the evening time expect to see pretty much nothing but teenagers. So you may need more patience if you’re over, say 35. If you need a ‘mature’ atmosphere then this gym may not be for you.

I’ve been a member of this gym for a month and I’ve really enjoyed it! The initial sign up process was very formal and professional and shows that the staff really cares. The gym overall is very well kept and clean as well. All other gym patrons are nice as well and makes the gym environment very welcoming.

Awful, My friend signed up for training and they aren't even training her. she pays $240 a month for zero training. She picked up an extra job to pay because she was excited about changing her body and life. HORRIBLE experience, I would recommend that nobody sign up for a membership at this LA fitness location. There is zero professionalism. Be better
