I came to the LA Fitness at 3450 W Touhy Ave in Skokie with a complimentary guest pass that clearly stated it was free. Instead, I was charged $20 at the front desk. Mike and Jay were the staff members I interacted with, and the situation felt misleading and unprofessional. A complimentary pass should not involve surprise charges, and I left feeling frustrated and taken advantage of. I hope management reviews this so other guests don’t go through the same experience. Also, the showers are all messed up. Very unprofessional maintenance.

I usually enjoy coming to this gym, but I had a disappointing experience recently. I bring my friend with me as a guest, and he’s currently not able to take his own membership due to personal reasons. However, the staff have been constantly pressuring him to sign up, and today they even pulled him aside to question him about membership.

I really didn’t appreciate the way they spoke to us — it felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. Guests should be treated respectfully, without being made to feel pressured or awkward. Not a fan of this location. I have witness outright hostile management to members from afar, removal of the 24/7 feature, and the place stinks. One would expect that with the merger of Xsport, LA Fitness would use it's new stream of income to make some repairs or clean the place up. Where do I begin? Long 8-10 hour shift at work, boss nagging at me, come home dinners not made wife’s nagging at me. But there was one thing waiting for me everyday and it was that hot stinky musty basketball court on Touhy. The best features of that gym were the basketball court and it being 24/7 and now both of those are gone. This truly breaks my heart in so many ways that now I have to spend time with my wife instead of hooping with the mandem at Xsport all night long.

Not bad for a quick workout, but since xsport sold to new management they play music as if their doing lines in the locker room 😅 Most people come with ear phones so it's mostly distracting pitches and base music. Staff is afraid of turning the music down due to management but you can ask and see how they do.

Im sorry, since mid june this place fell apart. Then LA fitness bought them and it continued to fall apart. More broken machines than fixed ones. Mens bathroom is so bad you need a vaccine to enter. Kids...kids everywhere. Groups, of 4 or more on their phones. Management and staff have clearly given up. Dont get me wrong some staff are great. Some are so stoned they dont know what day it is. Waaaaay too expensive for what you get. Tanning beds dont work 100% half your face gets tanned, or half the bulbs are out. It could be 1 star. Some staff members are worth while, just a couple. Better off going to planet pajamas down the street. I just cant recommend this place.
Feb 15 2025. Kicked out due to low water pressure. Cause that stops me from working out.
April 19, came back for first time to do legs. 1 quad machine working hamstring machines broken, seated calf gone and the leg press was broken. Dumpster fire.
June 6th. No extras. No tanning no IR beds nothing. The staff blames LA Fitness. I paid full price to get 30% of the things i use taken away.
10/19/25. Basketball court is closed. That means less kids. Good. Trouble is now they stand around in groups of 6 taking up space not working out. The pool, yeah it's not supposed to be that green. Don't get in. Men restroom be careful. It's filthy, urine on the floor. At anytime there are completely naked men of all ages taking photos of themselves in the bathroom. Phone should be off limits thats a protected place according the the ILCS, Illinois law. Missing dumbbells or broken ones scattered all over. There is no etiquette here. The staff has improved. Well, one guy just runs around on Sundays throwing a football to himself instead of working but otherwise they are nice. No tanning or anything. It's just not worth the price, yet.

I’ve been coming here consistently for fitness classes in the studio since May. The instructors are excellent.
However, it’s difficult to enjoy and fully reap the benefits from the classes when you, the instructors, and attendees are dancing with a towel in hand and sweating buckets because the AC wasn’t fixed all summer. There are ceiling fans and there is one large standing fan, but in a room of 40ish sweaty people, that did nothing. There were times I didn’t go to classes because I know it’d be hotter inside the studio than outside, even at 7pm. Crazy!
‼️Needless to say, this is DANGEROUS and negligent to keep ignoring as a fitness facility. My first expectation as a member is to have a well-ventilated facility with cool-flowing air so I don’t have a heat stroke indoors. Please fix the A/C in the studio!

Machines always broken. Gym is always dirty. The staff is always rude and refusing to truly help. They do not fit the standard of la fitness at all. Walk into any other la fitness and the staff is professional. This location is not up to par at all and truly lacks professionalism. The staff here even teased my child as he cried in the day care after being injured by another child. Would not recommend this gym to anyone. I usually would not go to this gym due to cleanliness issues. However,I met the manager, Kyle, today to discuss some things about the gym. He was very respectful and attentive to my needs. And as of late, it really does look like the gym is getting back to its former glory! I think I’ll start going to this gym again!

This is extremely disappointing and frustrating. We came here for the second time, and again the gym was closed, even though Google Maps clearly says it’s open 24 hours. That is false advertising and very misleading for people who pay for a membership and expect to use the facility at any time.

What makes it worse is that there was actually a staff member inside, but they refused to let us in. If you’re not truly open 24/7, then stop putting it on Google Maps and stop wasting people’s time. Customers plan their schedules based on the hours you advertise, and this kind of behavior is unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable.

I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they fix their hours and start treating their customers honestly.

The front desk manager, Amir (as he introduced himself), was extremely unprofessional and displayed racist behavior. Warning!! When I joined LA Fitness, the sales staff assured me that I could sign up for personal training and cancel anytime in the future if I wasn’t satisfied. Good luck trying to cancel your membership. That's why they are being sued, for not letting people cancel. Also gettinsued by the DOJ for not applying to the handicap rules and accessibility. I also joined Xsport because it was 24/7. I had an injury that out me out for over a year. I repaid xport for 2 years. Once my injury i ut a pause on both places. Since, LA fitness baugjt out xport. We'll, they reused to compensate me for a year and a half for xport, gave me some bs that its not in their system anymore, but they knew all my info. When I joined when I put pause and everything. They couldn't even lie correctly. On top of that they kept charging my credit card while on my injury. The only reason I keep it is because I'm on a $20 a month for life. Previously an xsport which is probably why I prefer it. It's a bigger gym with a basketball court, sauna, and studio rooms (yoga, Zumba etc.) never gets too packed in here compared to everyyyy LA FITNESS I've gone too. And they still have the child's play area which is a huge bonus! Regular LA FITNESS centers though do seem cleaner and more bright inside then xsports though. On the night of August 15, 2025, your receptionist, Jamoun, applied your company’s policies inconsistently. When I arrived, he declined my guest entry, citing a strict no guest rule after 9 PM which I understand and is completely fine. However, shortly after, I observed him allowing two other individuals into the gym at 10:56 PM without check-in, greeting them casually and bypassing the same policy.

During this time, he was away from his duties for over 30 minutes, engaged in personal conversation with colleagues. This inconsistent enforcement and lack of attentiveness give the impression that personal connections take priority over established procedures.

I believe this incident warrants review, as such actions risk undermining the fairness and integrity of your membership system.

What makes this even more concerning is that the gym itself has had ongoing issues that seem to receive less attention than enforcing guest restrictions. Several pieces of equipment are broken, the air conditioning has been out for two weeks, and much of the equipment is old and in need of replacement. Yet, the focus appears to be on selective enforcement of guest policy rather than addressing the basic maintenance and comfort of paying members.

Illinois assembly had passed a law in January, if a membership is defined as 24 hrs and changes the timings" u r entitled 2 a refund", so call or write to ur local state representative or Attorney General' office to complain, secondl, @6800 N. McCormick Planet fitness is 24 hrs n cheaper.

This place either needs a complete renovation or to be demolished entirely.

All of the machines, equipment, plates, and dumbbells are covered in a complete layer of dust or rust, usually both. On top of that, about 20% of the machines themselves are either broken or damaged in such a way that makes them difficult or unsafe to use.

Last but not least, the entire place is almost always 80+ degrees inside, enough that just walking to the locker room will get you damp. The LA fitness in Morton Grove or Highland Park are much better than this location.

Just in the past month, The pool has been closed for 3 weeks. The hot tub is filthy, the showers are filthy. Changing rooms are disgusting and it smells terrible. The basketball court which i go to 4-5 times a week, which had been closed for the past week, has about 5 clear bumps in the court and multiple dead spots. On top of that there is random gym equipment everywhere IN THE BASKETBALL COURT. Cleanliness 0/100. Now let’s talk about weightlifting, no one cleans after themselves all dumbbells and racks are rusty, and have built up dirt on them. You would think that now that LA has bought them it would be better, but in fact it’s actually worse. Let’s not even talk about that lady who works night shift, has an attitude 24/7😂 This place has officially failed.

Here is a HONEST review: 1) the equipment was bought USED there is NO way to have rust on so MANY machines,barbells,Cables. It's a whole work out to PUT the plates on the machines/barbell due to rust. The Dumbells are also used; dumbells wiggle/rotatate and some have the rubber coming off. On the cable machines the plates stick to each other. For a fairly new gym this a joke.
2) the IGNORANCE of the people that go there is TREMENDOUSLY high. NOT all people but majority, it's is a scavenger hunt everytime i go there. No one re-rack there weights so you have to walk around the whole gym to find what you are looking for. The employees don't even bother re-racking the weights they just stay behind the counter. I don't think it takes 3 people to check people in. If you go there at night there are multiple people walking around with there own speaker blasting music, employees don't say nothing to them but chatted it up with them. THE ONLY thing this gym got going is that is 24hrs.

Literally came here to write that same thing and someone already beat me to the punch. He is awkward and weird and comes off like a sneaky sales man. Very poorly maintained gym, machines are rusted and not in good condition. Stairmasters always be giving problems. Limited set of dumbbells, half of which are always gone and never returned. Benches always be busy.
Even the people who come here have no manners or sense to act responsibly.
The restroom/ showers are very unhygienic and slippery. The water has too much chemicals in it burning the eyes. They only push you get their expensive plans and then never care.

I am absolutely disgusted with the condition of the LA Fitness pool—it was honestly revolting. The water was cloudy, had this weird, murky tint to it, and there was debris floating around like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. It smelled awful, like a mix of chemicals and mildew, and don’t even get me started on the slimy tiles around the edges. I should’ve known better the moment I stepped in, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt—big mistake. I ended up feeling nauseous later that night and was completely sick the next day. This gym needs some serious improvements. The dumbbell selection is very limited—there are only two pairs of each weight starting from 5 lbs (05, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40), which are very few based on the amount of crowd. The showers are also poorly maintained. Several shower heads are broken, and the last walk-in shower doesn’t even have a shower head installed.

They used to have small dry machines to spin-dry wet shorts after swimming, but those have been removed as well, which is really inconvenient.

And lastly, the jacuzzi water is always just warm instead of hot, which makes it ineffective for proper recovery or relaxation.

With the number of people using this gym, it’s disappointing that these issues haven’t been addressed. I hope they keep improving the gym rather than making excuses.

The manager bragged so much about the trainer that I ended up enrolling for the trainer. However, my timing was a bit off, so I informed the manager that I couldn’t continue with the trainer. To my surprise, he said the trainer package is for a year and you can’t cancel. When I signed up at the club, these terms and conditions weren’t mentioned. They told me to sign everything on the chair to finish up quickly and start training. Even at the end, I was told I couldn’t cancel the trainer alone, so I had to cancel the entire membership. It cost me around $500. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go through what I did.

Yeah this place could be somewhat decent. A number of the treadmill / bicycles are messed up. They don't work right and there's no out of order sign on some of the equipment. The pool has been jacked a couple of times. The men's locker rooms is pretty jacked up. Sometimes I've been in there and it smells like pee over near the toilet area. I don't care about people using it but you got to clean up after it. You know the locker area in general needs to be cleaned up. That machine that rings out the swim trunks hasn't worked in about 3 months. So they need to get their act together over here at this location. I like the location in Rogers Park even though it doesn't have a pool. I mean it's like this export place has probably always been a dump. The location on Lawrence is way clean. I love that place. It has a pool and everything. Who knows maybe they'll invest some time into this dump but until then I only go there because it's convenient for people that use the number 82 cable bus. And it's sad because it has a lot of potential for a lot of things.

Terrible experience I have ever had in my life. All they do is take your money. I would never sign up for it. They force me to pay my money although I am no longer want to use their service. Be careful when you do any contract with them, they don’t explain you clearly and all they did is take your money. They are very RUDE. I would never go this place. Make sure you cancel personal training contract within 3 days. Otherwise your money is gone. They never explain you how the contract works and all they do is take your money and force you to stay.

In any health club has health high standard priority, Here what happened when you entered the women's bathrooms? it’s like you entered public street bathroom. which maybe women can’t use.

Cleanliness should start with your body, then your home, then your car, then your office, etc.

A health club should start with the extremely high level health standards and then continued clean in every way. Women's bathrooms are a disaster. If women don't know how to stay clean, we can't control the environment anymore.

The gym needs better up keep. It’s always dirty and machines are in bad shape. Considering all the fees they charge one would think upkeep would be a priority. A large company like XSport should have a better upkeep for facilities. Planet Fitness is cleaner with less machines out of commission

SCAMMERS!! They keep saying "written in contract," but there wasn't a contract! I haven't received a paper from them nor an email! I wanted to try them for one month and I regret it! When I called, they said there is no membership for one month, and literally, the person who helped me with the membership in the beginning said okay! What kind of a deal is this?! They even charge you for freezing your account, and you cancel without a medical or a change in address excuse?! So what if I want to cancel? That means you haven't survived me the way that is promised, so I'm canceling! WORST GYM EVER!!

I canceled my membership just five days in due to the gym not offering value for money. When I approached the front desk to cancel, the representative assured me that my membership was terminated. I absolutely think the location of the gym is excellent, and as a newer building I was expecting fot the management to pay a closer attention to upkeeping the gym in general and bring the equipment in perfect functional state.

The Covid timeframe passed and while I personally still paid for the subscription I was not present at the facility for more than 15 months. I did this to help XSport to keep it up with their obligations during that trying times.
Now, for over a year we are on the clear, therefore I expect more from the management!

Pool:
The Jacuzzi pool is at list 5 degrees lower in temperature, debris on the water and sitting area needs resurfacing

Locker room Man:
Steam not working on the men
Missing shower heads, or the shower not working entirely.
Half of the sink units have unfunctional faucets.
Toilet stalls closed.
Urinal not functional, light bulbs missing, not to mention doors on the showers.

The cleaning guy is trying to do a good job, however the overall maintenance should be probably the responsibility of the management!
Please do something about all this!

A complete scam. I did the week pass to see the facility, and was told I can cancel it before the 7 day mark so I am not charged. So I did that. Cancelled on the fifth day so I was not charged. Then I found out that they did not cancel the membership and I was continuing to get charged. I tried to dispute these charges, and their customer service said I had to cancel the dispute with my bank to get a refund. After I canceled my dispute with the bank, I called back and they said I was not eligible for a refund in a very rude manor. Do not trust these people, especially their manager Billy. Be careful with these people.

Xsports is a great gym if you workout in off hours. It has everything you need to get in shape. And they keep the facility and locker rooms clean.

However during peak hours you have to wait for benches. it has to many treadmills and not enough free weights. Additionally there's only one rack of 20-40 dumbbells and multiple racks of higher dumbbells. So it's very hard to find the popular 20-40s. I was there for 2 years and nothing changed in that regard despite many suggestions.

Additionally the pricing package forces you to pay for all the extras, there is no package for people who just want weights. Now that my membership has ended I'm looking for better options.

All X Sports are FAR FAR FAR inferior to most other gyms. I only workout here because it has the only child care in the area. If you don't have kids, choose Planet Fitness. So much better. Machines broken or just have so few machines per type. Crowded. Staff is meh. Child care staff is excellent. If you are looking for a gym to weight train, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Been to two X Sports and let's just say, the reviews don't lie and paint a great picture of what you will find.

Your bound to get COVID 19 in this place I went there for the first time a couple days ago since my college gym is closed for Christmas break hoping I could use my guest pass since I never went to the gym but only once when I was very little to sign up for a membership for my dad and they didn’t even let me use the guest pass only cause I been there once and it wasn’t even my membership and I never even used the gym back then if your gonna use the guest pass don’t even mention you been to this gym they’ll do you bogus and try to get you to sign up the guy there told me I couldn’t use it cause I been to the gym once even if I did or didn’t use it, doesn’t even make sense why they didn’t let me use my guest pass. luckily I had a friend there so I used his guest pass to get in and actually get to my workout.
First things first this place is so packed and messy like people barley clean it there’s never room to workout. Ignorant people sometimes become blind and will stand into your way. Anyways two days after we both caught COVID from going to that gym we came to a conclusion that it was the area we benched at that was mainly packed with everyone there it sucks my frist experience there was horrible hoping I would like the gym but after that experience and the comments on this post never go to this gym ever again never it’s so bad. I’d give it 0 stars if it was possible. Xsport if you see this don’t even bother commenting to my post I literally do not care I’m not coming back ever.

I was able to go to this Skokie Location for the first Time due to an upgrade from XSport Fitness. This is One of the Greatest Gyms in the World. There is equipment variety and the Equipment is Great ! Also, there is a Great Free Weight and Plate Loaded Machine Area . There are not the deficiencies in this Gym that some People are alleging, especially if They are delusionally thinking a Planet Fitness is better !

Machines constantly broken; the hotub never works and they seem to take machines away but never replace them. TVs on the machines almost never work. It’s really running on a shoestring budget but it’s cheap and you can see that it’s cheap. You pay for the 24 hour access and that’s about it.

This place is horrible! Last week 8 out of the 9 elliptical machines were nit working. I notified them and they said they would fix. It's 10 days later and they are still not fixed. Today is leg day and more machines are "out of order". The guy at the desk was on his phone when I approached him to let him know the elliptical machines were still broke. He didn't even look up from his phone to address me but just said oh I'm sorry I'll let them know! Retally?This is why I pay Membership,?
