I’ve been a member of this gym for 2 years now. I’ll be real, this place has its pros and cons, but lately I’m just done with it. The community is solid and I’ve met some good people here. The vibe is cool too, kind of a dark hardcore feel. The powerlifting room is usually fine, but once you walk over to the bodybuilding side it’s a whole different story. Feels like every single week something new is broken. The lat pulldown has been down about a thousand times, cables are always messed up, and it’s never all working the way it should.
Cardio is straight up a nightmare. There are 3 treadmills, 4 stair masters, 5 or 6 bikes, and a rower. Only 2 treadmills work and one of them randomly shuts off while you’re running. On top of that the upstairs lights flicker while you’re on them. Not a single stair master actually works. One is completely out, one isn’t even plugged in and the cords are a mess so good luck figuring that out, one stalls out when you start using it, and the other one has a broken screen and is basically useless.
The owner makes it worse. He keeps 3 motorcycles and a couple of engines inside the gym, just sitting around. And yes, he’ll literally start his bike inside the gym while people are in there breathing in the fumes. The bathrooms are disgusting with sewage smells and flooded toilets half the time. There’s no water fountain because the owner wants to squeeze every dollar out of you, so you’re paying a buck for bottled water. A dollar for water isn’t the end of the world, but come on, no fountain in a gym? That’s just greedy.
Parking sucks too. There are like 7 spots in the back and the owner takes up 2 or 3 of them with his own cars. The lot used to be bigger but the car wash next door took most of it over and it’s been a disaster since.
Lockout could be one of the best gyms in the Chicagoland area if it was run properly. But the way it is now, it’s just a broken down mess with an owner who cares more about showing off his bikes than running a legit gym.

Easily best gym for in the area. Fair price, and all the equipment you need either for powerlifting/weight training. No one bothers me, and people go there to get their workout done.

I’ve been going to the gym for quite some time now. I didn’t know I needed A change of scenery, a change of atmosphere… until I entered Lockout and trained here for a couple of days…. This is a REAL gym. All the necessities and then some to push you further. That 80’s style Mecca of lifting type vibe… This is the gym you need.

Not a good environment to work out in. Annoying, lazy clientele. No strong people. Planet Fitness type crowd. Bad music taste. Much prefer Handlebars II on Archer and Avers. Get a real workout in.

This was a $45 dollar mistake. Their equipment is okay, good amount. Not super dirty and the women’s bathrooms are nice, but very few cleaning supplies for such a large space, and some nights where there are none around. They also lied over the phone about there not being a contract. The biggest problem is that it is not a welcoming environment. It’s supposed to be a community gym but the same 5 guys take over the music and turn it all the way up. I asked politely if they could turn it down as I was right next to speaker. They turned it down for 30 seconds and turned it back up and laughed. Mind you, I don’t care if it’s up a bit just more the fact that it’s not a safe environment to work out in as a woman if you’re not in their group. I went back another day and they saw me and turned the music up again and laughed at me. I used to manage a 150,000 ft gym and rec center and this gym leaves a lot to be desired- won’t be back again. Will not recommend to any women that want to seriously lift weights.
