Will raise your membership rates without notifying you, and when you try to cancel, will continue to charge you for months ignoring your calls and emails. Also half the facilities are shut down every time you go. Avoid this terrible place and sign up at a real gym.

It has been a slow but steady decline since I joined 2 years ago. The locker room is atrocious, so much so that I’d rather brave a chilly morning in my shorts than have to change inside; it smells like mold and is always absurdly wet everywhere.
The equipment is constantly down, especially the cardio (Pelotons and Treadmills). Wouldn’t be as bad if you could hop in a fitness room and get a workout in, but they are constantly double booking them for classes, and the instructors are some of the rudest folks you’ll encounter at the gym; they’ll come in 20 minutes before their class to clear the room like you aren’t paying $70 a month to be there, then snap on you if you come in for any of the equipment that is hoarded in the room, even though it’s just two people and an instructor.
The gym space itself is constantly covered in dustballs and hair, sticky patches all over the floor, and the meager fixing they give you to wipe down the equipment (cheap paper towels and always broken spray bottles) doesn’t do a great job on the taped up pads on almost everything.
In short, I feel like I’m working out in my uncle’s garage gym rather than a place I’d pay $70 a month to be at.

I had originally given this place 5stars believing in all of what was included in my membership after months of coming to this location, I’ve since then changed my mind.
The price no longer includes peloton in the membership!
Some staff not all are friendly, mostly weekend staff really. Inconsistent communication regarding shut downs of certain areas. When asked I’m given a really bad attitude saying “well we’ve updated our board”
I’ve officially ended my membership with the YMCA, the way this location is running is so poor!

Friendly staff and patrons, clean facility, and never too busy. There’s always equipment available, plus they have Peloton bikes which I love. Plenty of parking and bike racks, and it’s just at the end of the 606. They also have a pool (currently closed for deep cleaning), but overall a great place to work out!

Do not put your kids in this daycare , all the kids do is sleep and watch TV , they don’t give healthy snacks often all they give is carbs likes crackers which leads the kids to get constipated very frequently , the site director will make your life difficult for you and your child if you speak up about any concerns she has been withholding my sons items ever since I pulled him out of the program and refuses to release his stuff to an authorized person like my sister who’s unfortunately her kids still attend this awful program .

Love this place so much. For $40/month you're getting a great bang for your buck; spacious facilities that include a basketball court, pool, steam room, and, of course, gym. The people working the front-desk are SO friendly. Today, a woman literally chased me down because she accidentally gave me $5 less in change than she was meant to. May not seem like a lot, but it was genuinely a very kind, thoughtful gesture.

Inconsistent at best. Recently boasting a great deal with peloton membership included only for me to show up for a peloton ride and have none of the bikes working. Front desk informed me that they are working to get an in house account and the app will no longer be included in membership. No communications was received about this prior to my arrival except an email from peloton in my spam folder saying my membership would be expiring and I can purchase my own for an additional $13/mo. So there I am at the gym with none of the equipment working or available while they sort this out. Now I’m remembering why I canceled my membership last time. Just super poor communication all around. They have our emails? Why can’t quick emails be sent about scheduling updates or problems? For a $100/mo family membership, I expect more.

I will be cancelling my membership due to lack of communication with sports classes for my 6 year old. I do not live around the corner from this ymca. Therefore I call ahead to make sure the instructor will be there and the designated person who answers the phone, is beyond confused. Majority of the staff member at the front desk, are also unaware of the programs and the name of the instructors for the kids program as well as all the classes they provide. Instead of the staff stating they don’t know something they rather lie, and make you waste your time and gas.Truthfully they could have an automated systems that knows more information than the staff that works there. The YMCA is always quick to take money out of your account but never wants to reimburse what they owe back as fast as they take it. One thing that made me come to this YMCA is the child care in order for me to workout. Clearly the bad out-ways the good. Get a membership here at your own discretion.

I'm sad I finally had to cancel my membership after two years here, because I really enjoyed how close it was to my home. But after their second round of raising prices, after making no improvements to the facilities or equipment, I can't do it anymore. $65 a month is an exorbitant amount for a membership at the YMCA, when you can guarantee half the treadmills and one of two stairmasters will always be broken, classes are constantly cancelled, they close extremely early on the weekends, and the pool is basically unusable.
Everything is very outdated, and depending on the time of day it's ridiculously overcrowded. Classes are often cancelled. I've also tried to use the lap pool many times and it's always completely full with a line of people waiting, or more often closed all together due to lack of staff.
I just felt like I was paying so much for nothing. They close at 7pm on Sundays, which sucks. And to raise prices again to $65 with no improvements to your facilities or programs feels greedy.
I'll miss the proximity to my house, but for $65 a month you can get a membership at a much nicer and better maintained gym with better hours and a full staff.

The gym is decent, but it does feel a bit overcrowded for the amount of space and equipment available. I mainly signed up to do some cardio, but it’s been frustrating to see that 3-4 treadmills are out of order at any given time. It’d be nice if they kept up with maintenance a little better, especially considering how many people are trying to use them.

Staff is helpful and facilities are clean. Class instructors always provide modifications to suit different fitness levels and/or injuries. Lots of aerobic machines and weights options. To Whom It May Concern,
I am a member of McCormick YMCA and wanted to share my gratitude for Renée Estese's (the Fitness Trainer & Clinical & Sports Massage Therapist) incredible care and expertise. In November, I suffered a severe knee injury that left me unable to work out. Physical therapy provided little relief, and my knee remained swollen and painful.
When I reached out to Renée, she immediately offered support. Despite my inability to participate in workouts, she asked me to stay after class, where she began working on my knee and leg. Her dedication and skill made a significant difference.
Additionally, in October 2024, I had a procedure for varicose veins that left me with ongoing pain and sensitivity in my legs. Thanks to Renee's efforts, the pain I had been living with for over a year is finally gone.
My knee and leg have improved tremendously, and I am deeply grateful for her care. Thank you, Renée, from the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely,
Yolanda Lopez

This had five stars from me previously but after being a member for a few months my mind has changed. It’s extremely rare that all gym facilities are working at one time. I had a good experience with the gym overall but I came to cancel my membership and the “rule” is you have to cancel the membership before the firsts 15 days of the month otherwise you are going to be charge for the next month. Is like “WHY”? other gyms doesn’t have this ridiculous rule to cancel the membership during the first 15 days of the month. THANK YOU, now I’m going to be charge for October and I won’t be able to enjoy it beacuse I couldn’t and I DIDNT KNOW that I had to do it before September 15. It’s just pathetic.

I echo the previous review regarding the pool and poor communication from the staff, and just a general lack of customer service. This was my first time at this Y and had an excellent experience at my previous YMCAs in Cincinnati.
I called ahead to confirm how late the pool would be open for lap swim that evening. I arrived about an hour later only to be told the pool was closed and the life guards were at a training. This is unacceptable having just called an hour earlier and being told the pool would be open that evening. No apology and a rude response from staff as though this were perfectly normal.
I won’t be keeping my membership either. This situation was completely avoidable and I’m sure I’m not alone based on this experience.

I urge SERIOUS SWIMMERS to not invest in this pool. While I enjoyed some of the lifeguard staff, the lap pool is often closed and when it is not closed it is bogged down by private lessons and children’s swim team.
This is not the gym for folks who are serious about training/having a consistent work out routine. The pool is continuously closed and the staff lack communication skills. I have wasted so much of my time traveling to the gym only to find out the pool is closed.
The pool was closed this Friday - Saturday (09/06 - 09/07) and the evening of Saturday (09/07), I called the front desk to confirm the pool was going to be open the next day (09/09 Sunday). Present day, I l arrived to the pool just a half hour ago (5:00 pm 09/09) to be told the lap pool was closing due to the lack of staff. I immediately closed my membership.
Very disappointed with the lack of service and communication.

Absolutely terrible. They boast how there’s no membership, but won’t allow you to cancel with appropriate notice even though you never legally sign a contract about any of this. I spent eight days arguing with them, only to mostly be ignored until I was absolutely irate at the lack of help. They literally don’t care about you at all, they just want to continue to squeeze whatever funds they can out of you, which is funny since half the machines and steam room are broken for months. As a business owner, I’m appalled at their lack of knowledge on legality and customer support. Choose better, this isn’t it.

Great basic but clean facilities, friendly front desk.
Sadly, poor communications and information available. Don't make plans to use the pool without calling - closures, wrong information, and a reluctance to make announcements on social media or their website make it difficult to know if you will ever be able to use the pool. Save yourself some time and headache and never assume the schedule is correct. It is not. Some specific incidents:
1) Called the morning of to ask about family swim and told the pool was available - it was not, there was a huge birthday party
2) Schedule says there are only two lanes available for lap swim in the morning due to swim club - there is not currently swim club over the summer.
3) Camp is using the pool unannounced
Also the lifeguards aren't very friendly and seem to have different rules for whether equipment for kids can or cannot be used. It is confusing.

I really want to love the YMCA, but the staff and management make it incredibly difficult. The facilities at the McCormick YMCA are just fine, My family and I have been members for about a year, however, we continue to have a difficult time getting accurate and helpful information from staff. Scheduling changes are poorly communicated or not communicated at all. When I first became a member, a manager at that time told me that the Y would soon be expanding its childcare to include infants, which has not yet happened. I continue to not be able to utilize the childcare because it's not available for children under the age of three.
My family and I recently had a recent experience that was the last straw for us. On a visit to the YMCA pool, we left two wet bathing suits behind in the locker room during the chaos of departure (we have two young children). As soon as we got home (about 20 minutes later), I called the Y. I was told that the suits would be placed in the lost and found and I could pick them up the next day. The next day my partner returned for the suits and was told that they had been disposed of and that the Y has a policy of not keeping any wet or damp items. I completely understand this policy and why keeping such items could be a hygiene issue. That is precisely why I called as soon as I realized I had left them behind. If the person I spoke to had told me they were going to be thrown away, I would have returned immediately (with two small children in tow) to retrieve the items. Because the employee gave me the wrong information our suits ended up in the trash. When I reached out to supervisor Jonathan Anaya, he evaded all responsibility on behalf of the YMCA. Executive Director , Angel La Luz, never returned my emails regarding the incident. I am not suggesting that the YMCA is responsible for lost items, but it is certainly responsible for training staff and ensuring that members are afforded accurate information. The YMCA is clearly not invested in training competent, caring staff members, ensuring member satisfaction, or building community.

Love this Y, the lap pool is almost always worth the trip. Sometimes it’s too busy in the lap pool and this can be a bummer but patrons are usually good about sharing a lane. Sometimes lanes are closed for lessons that are not happening, which can be frustrating if it’s super busy and there’s a closed off lane that is empty. This facility also has an awesome weight room, the steam room is pretty refreshing and the water pressure in the showers is decent.

Nicest people in Chicago. Clean facilities and excellent pool area and plenty of space for your workout. Disappointed they don't reciprocate with Indiana YMCA's but the $15 day pass is a steal.

Been going here for a while. Staff is friendly. Nice locker rooms. Although the sauna needs to be updated and the women’s locker room should have lockers like the family locker room. My favorite part is the pool. I enjoy the lap pool. I also like that they have classes and the trainers always make you sweat!

The pool and locker rooms are decent. Nice basketball court. We like the community programs too (sports lessons, day off camp, summer camp, and community events). Right off the 606 for those who run/walk/bike.
