Have been coming here for two years and absolutely love it. Not only do they have two floors full of bouldering routes, but they also have an amazing gym area, as well as a quality locker room and well-kept sauna. The place is always very clean, towels are stocked, etc. Somewhat pricey for a gym membership but very competitive when taking into account the rock climbing and other amenities; it is not an ordinary gym. Highly recommend for casual climbers and pro climbers alike.

To the yoga teacher whose class I took this morning:
Telling a student, “Don’t show up if you’re 5 minutes late” doesn’t reflect the spirit of yoga—it reflects your ego. Your attitude and approach sets the tone for the class and serves no one but yourself.

And you know, I was late because the doctor I had appointment with before your class was running 15 minutes late.

I trained here only for about nine months, but I really appreciated the gym's size and equipment offerings. I didn't climb very much, but it's clear there are a lot of routes for people with different skill levels. I also liked how friendly the front staff were. I was a month-to-month member and it was very easy to cancel when my time came - it required request I think just two weeks or something before the end of the month/billing cycle, and I did it all online.

I have been a member of movement for a full year now! It has completely changed the way I feel and think about working out! The environment is so welcoming and the gym is so beautiful and fun! I no longer think of working out as something chore that I “have to do” but that I get to do. There are many things to love about movement (the exciting and ever changing climbing routes, the meet up events, the saunas…) but my absolute favorite thing is the workout classes. This fall the switched the scheduling to include 6:30 am morning classes which meant I had time to attend a class before work. I started going to Hayley’s body pump classes and am honestly addicted. I’ve never been a “regular” at a workout class before, but this one is so incredibly fun and the results are so satisfying that I try to go to every session I can! I’m so excited for 2025 and to commit to another year of 6am body pump!!

This bouldering gym is insanely fun. There are multiple levels with full workout rooms, yoga classes and locker rooms. The bouldering walls were super fun and challenging. It is in such a fun location directly across the street from Wrigley. I do not live in Chicago but I have climbed at this gym at least 3 times. I will definitely return for more!

I had a great time at this location and will definitely be coming back. It's a shame that the overall reviews are pretty low due to the yoga instructors getting laid off awhile back, which I agree was really crappy. However, now they are back and the gym offers great amenities. Very clean, nice showers, sauna, and of course, bouldering. The workers were all nice and welcoming, and this location has an amazing view of Wrigley Field, and a nice outdoor seating area right in front of it. There were plenty of 'problems' I was able to do (as a rusty climber getting back into it) and lots of pretty advanced problems. I also learned they route-set 3 times a week, which is amazing, so there is always a lot of variety. Something else I didn't mention was the gym, which is HUGE and has everything you'd want. Overall, a very nice place with lots of room. Felt like I could spend whole day here because it's so big, with multiple places to sit and relax.

Great facilities, super friendly staff, and fun routes at various different levels. Really enjoy the lab space as well (ungraded climbs that change regularly and tend to be more comp-style).

Particularly out of the other gyms I've visited in Chicago, sometimes I've felt like routes were hard because texture on holds were worn down and I've never had that problem here. Here all the challenges are coming from movements in the climb.

On the plus side: sauna, clean facility, new holds, nice staff, if you’re a noob you’ll love it. Now for the negative: if you’re a serious climber it’s Orwellian. Like super sanitized, super safety minded route setting, where none cross each other so there are way too few routes for the workerbees. The setting is pretty bland and generally same type of hold repeatedly. No imagination. So much space but I knocked out every red (5-6) in a single session, then black was really reachy with no feet. You can tell the setters aren’t that strong and don’t climb outside. So many gyms would kill for all this terrain and it’s all wasted here. A real tragedy. Why not hire someone to set more in between all these routes? Wasting so much good territory. It’s just so dystopian, management just wants strong climbers on the stupid tension board and the gumbies get all the boulders. The pads on the floor are also NOT the best they could have purchased so concussions are possible. Can’t believe they cut corners on this expenditure.

After just getting a tour months ago, I finally went for my first time for a bouldering sesh.

The very friendly Rachel welcomed me in and gave me all the information I needed.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like climbing in a gym where the problems aren’t tagged but it was just the opposite, I loved it!

Easy to find problems by color and I inadvertently challenged myself a few times which was great!

Can’t wait to go back and use the strength and conditioning facilities as they are quite expensive.

The gym is very clean and thoughtfully designed. The problems are set well

After a one day visit, I purchased a seven visit pass. Pretty sure I’ll pony up for a full monthly membership in the near future

Oh and the bike parking was awesome To have as well.

Great bouldering routes and workout area. However, the padding doesn't have very much "give" to it compared to other gyms. I think they use memory foam padding instead of open-celled. Falls from higher routes may knock the breath out of you, so be careful.

I recommend bringing your own crashpad(s) because they don't provide them for you.

I used to consider movement a second home, thanks to its wonderful community, dedicated instructors, and welcoming front desk staff. It has been a core part of my time in Chicago, offering a perfect blend of fitness classes, climbing, and a supportive atmosphere.

However, since the yoga and fitness classes gotten taken away, I have since cancelled my membership. These packed classes were a vital part of my daily routine, providing the motivation to get out of the house and stay active. It's disheartening to see such a greedy move prioritize profits over the diverse needs of the community.

The front desk staff and instructors, who are the backbone of this gym, remain exceptional.

As much as I cherished my time at this gym, I felt compelled to cancel my membership. It's disheartening to witness a place that once embraced holistic fitness lose its balance due to corporate decisions. I have zero faith that they will bring back these programs and if they do, they’ll be outsourced to lower paid staff.

I have nothing but great things to say about the staff at Movement LP. The front desk team is incredibly helpful and kind. The fitness, yoga, and climbing instructors are engaged and knowledgeable. The routesetters are passionate and creative. The youth coaches are energetic, lively role models that you know truly care about the kids.

It is with upper management that I have a problem. A few weeks ago, Corporate Movement abruptly cancelled yoga + fitness programs in the greater Chicago area, promptly firing over 30+ fitness and yoga instructors citing "underperformance". This decision came only days after Movement Chicago raised membership prices while still advertising yoga + fitness.

However, these classes were widely popular and anyone in the Chicago region who attended these gyms would know that they were not the problem. These classes were always at full capacity, run by some of the most wonderful instructors in Chicago. To reiterate what an earlier review stated: " They also have noted that they won't be rehiring any staff that have been terminated in which they would have to reapply for their roles if they choose to return to work for Movement. Not to mention the continued silence and poor communication with members around this whole situation."

This decision to cut yoga + fitness is an appalling one. One that has left 30+ people out of a job during the Christmas season. These people are more than just instructors or former coworkers to me: They are pillars of the climbing community. I would have none of my amazing relationships in Chicago without the yoga + fitness programs, and I know that countless others have relationships like this that would not exist without these classes. In cutting these programs, Movement have not just lost amazing people: they have destroyed a community that I hold so close to my heart.

I (and many others) look forward to cancelling my membership and never climbing at this location again. Go check out Brooklyn Boulders or First Ascent instead.

I’ve went to this gym and the other location a couple of times for classes and climbing as a guest. Staff and instructors are great, but the gym’s decision to cut their yoga and fitness classes/instructors —not to mention the egregiously insensitive manner through which it did such— is indicative of greedy management and ownership tactics that make it clear they couldn’t care less about their community or employees.

Changing my 5-star review to 1-star after the recent decision to increase prices and fire the fitness and yoga teachers the weeks before the holidays....the gym itself is clean and the staff is nice, but clearly management is pinching pennys and ruining the community.

I reached out to cancel my membership and got an automated response with no reply to my emails and feedback. Such a flop in how this was all handled.

I joined Movement for 3 main reasons - a large array of TR climbing, yoga classes with a peaceful space & down-to-earth instructors, & good membership deals. Movement’s facilities are top-tier and their local member-facing staff are/were nothing but amazing. Their classes were impressively tailored to the needs of the participants as well.

Within weeks of renewing my membership which includes unlimited yoga and fitness classes, I learned all yoga and fitness programs were coming to a hault with the potential to not return until after my current 6-month membership ends. With half the services advertised being removed from my membership, the membership cost is no longer worth the cost.

When “pausing” their classes, Movement terminated all fitness and yoga instructors solely at the Chicago locations. I cannot stand by and support an organization that removes services without consulting members and informs employees with only one week notice. Some gym members solely purchased their gym memberships for the yoga or fitness classes at Movement. Movement's logo lists "climbing · yoga · fitness" in their logo, indicating all 3 of these are at the core of what movement offers. For this gym to abruptly stop offering two of the core offerings without warning is shocking, entitled, and unacceptable, especially to members who committed to 6 or 12 month memberships.

The reasons given for this were financial struggles and underperformance. Movement is currently still acquiring numerous other gyms across the country, so this organization does not appear to be financially struggling to me. In regards to underperformance, the majority of yoga classes I have attended have been almost full with over 20 people in attendance. If there was an issue with some classes being underattended, it seems reasonable to me that the less-attended classes would have been removed rather than abruptly cancelling all classes. Overall, it appears there are other reasons these classes were removed, and I along with the Movement community do not appreciate or respect the lack of transparency or community input involved in this decision.

Movement claims to be a community gym, but they seem to make very corporate decisions that do not involve the community and are willing to let go employees who were part of the community and who members, including myself, cared deeply about at the drop of a hat. If this is the way Movement conducts business, even if yoga and fitness classes are brought back, I am unsure if I can support this organization.

Lastly, just 2 weeks after renewing my membership recently, I learned that Movement is raising their prices without explanation. I am shocked at how prices can be raised at a time when half the offerings of the gym are becoming unavailable. Without yoga and fitness classes, the cost of the Movement membership is not justified given the other less-problematic gyms in Chicagoland.

A supervisor at the front desk also informed me this price increase would apply to my 6-month membership as well beginning in January even though my membership goes through May. Per the membership agreement, it states, "in no event will your dues change during the 6 month discounted dues period." If it is true that 6-month members will be charged a higher rate in January, this is not in alignment with the contracts members signed.

Overall, I am extremely disappointed in the recent actions of Movement in regards to the Movement Chicago gyms. I loved Movement and wish I could continue using the facilities and classes with the wonderful community that was formed there. I hope Movement can bring yoga and fitness classes back in January 2024, offer the class instructors we love their positions back, honor membership contracts as agreed upon, and issue a sincere apology to the community at large. I will also update my review Movement’s upper leadership acknowledges their poor decisions and course corrects.

Once a climbing haven where yoga mats met chalk-covered hands in a harmonious symphony, this gym now resembles a deserted summit of shattered dreams. The corporation's decision to cancel classes left us hanging—literally—like a climber stranded mid-route with no belay. The once vibrant yoga and fitness instructors, now unceremoniously ejected, disappeared faster than a boulderer's grip.

The staff, once the backbone of encouragement, has been replaced by the ghosts of cost-cutting measures. Attempting a downward dog now feels like attempting to grasp the elusive crux of corporate empathy. With the holiday season approaching, the abrupt dismissal was a present wrapped in a package of disappointment💨

In a move that defies gravity, the membership prices have ascended to new heights, leaving patrons feeling like they've been belayed without consent. It seems the corporation believes we're all training for a fiscal climb up Mount Monopoly.

In conclusion, this once-great gym has become a cliffhanger of despair, with the ✨corporation✨ reaching new heights of absurdity. Climbers, yogis, and fitness enthusiasts, beware—you're in for a fall, not a climb📉

Corporate just doesn’t understand their market. They moved into a very liberal and democratic city and neighborhood, then made an executive decision to cancel all yoga classes, laying off all yoga staff with a 1-week notice, without reaching out to members about this decision (not very democratic). Yoga classes were busy enough that we were requested to reserve a spot in advance so that they don’t become too full. Every yoga class we’ve been to has been full and awesome. They removed 1/3 of their product offerings and increased prices nearly $10/mo. Classic corporate money-grab.

Movement: do better.

This review is specifically for management. The staff that work here are amazing. Super friendly and always great to deal with. Management decided they would not only increase prices, but also completely eliminate all yoga and fitness classes. Awful decision made by management, and shame on them for laying off some amazing people. Do not support this business.

I've been a member of this gym for almost 2 years, and up until 1 week ago I would have recommended them to everyone I know. The facilities are beautiful, the sauna is life changing, the route setters are talented & the staff are incredible. I've loved every aspect of my time here. Unfortunately corporate has destroyed its reputation by firing their entire Yoga & Fitness staff and removing all of those classes from their chicago gyms. Oh, and this decision was put into action one week after they raised prices for membership. How are you going to have your tagline be "Climbing, Yoga & Fitness" and then remove 2/3 of that for only one city??? They have been saying that they did this to "Better suit the community needs" but they never reached out to the community whatsoever, and the cancelation was due to "underperformance" when every class ive been to has been full of people AND they blindsided their staff with one weeks notice before termination right before the holidays.
Its such a shame, this place was the only good climbing option in town (I'm a former member of First Ascent but won't be returning there for various reasons) but this management has made a critical bad decision they are unfortunately sticking by. The longer they do this, the more community members they lose. I hope they come to their sense soon.

Private equity owned climbing gym with no morals or ethics from corporate level staff. The folks on the ground are great, including the entire fitness and yoga staff who were fired with miniscule notice, but this is not a climbing gym you want to support. Barely weeks after announcing raised rates, they have "paused" all fitness and yoga classes with just one week notice to members. They never brought back the spray wall and it was the only reason I chose this gym over FA uptown. I couldn’t train on the training walls since there’s a steep curve for finger strength. The spray wall was my in between training tool to work on my finger strength, create my own climbs, and work on technique. It doesn’t seem like they’re planning on bringing it back so i’m considering canceling my membership. Also there’s still some comp climbs from october that’s still up? I’m honestly very confused as to what’s happening with the setting.

Amazing staff, amazing facilities! This is not just a climbing gym; they offer daily group fitness classes, full gym and equipment, saunas in the locker rooms and even some sitting areas to hang out or do work!

Great staff, there's rarely any people here whenever I go so it's nice to have the whole gym to yourself. Sauna is great too.

Conveniently located on Clark and near the red line. Go to the Lincoln Park location if you want to drive. Of all the climbing gyms, Movement has the best workout gym, making you actually want to use it. Bouldering problems range from fun dynamic comp style to more traditional routes that hurt your fingers. On top of everything, staff members are friendly and cheerful.

Huge open gym featuring two full floors of bouldering walls, with a fitness floor (mostly weights and flexibility equipment) sandwiched in between. The space is very wide open, giving each person lots of room to work out. And because it's new, everything is in great shape. I especially love the equipment cubbies all around every floor, meaning you can always have your stuff with you. There are also lots of couches, benches, tables and chairs around, with additional restrooms (with showers) in a couple of spots. Unfortunately there are no ropes courses here, but it's still a fantastic spot for young and old alike.

A great climbing gym, very beginner-friendly. It’s a very clean, open space that’s incredibly inviting. There are plenty of amenities and the staff is friendly and helpful. The grading system is a little different than other Chicago gyms, but I’ve noticed that it helps me climb stronger and I’m less likely to get shut down. If you’re thinking about trying it out, definitely give these guys a shot!

Well set routes comparable with upkeeping the movement brand. All the holds are brand new - it’s like grabbing sand paper, could not ask for a better grip. Really fun routes and they use gradient rating which I prefer. Great views of wrigley is an added bonus

Overall good bouldering gym. Good routes, great views of Wrigley, and helpful staff. The newness of the holds makes them rougher than at other gyms in the city and started to wear on my hands during my climb ther but I'm sure that will get better over time (or maybe I'm just a wimp, probably the later).
Only thing holding it back from a 5 in my opinion is the route grading system. They don't mark their routes explicitly, but rather give them a color which could be any grade within a range. Some of these colors overlap. If you want to see the true grade of the route you have to carry your phone around to pull it up on the app. This is a little tedious, and I prefer not having to carry my phone around the gym.

This place is gorgeous and brand new. Although there isn't much parking, it's extremely close to the Red Line Addison station.

The place is huge with two levels of bouldering walls and one level with spacious gym and fitness equipment. This location also has some spots where you can top-out, climb go the top of the wall and stand on the top of the platform before coming down, that was a scary yet exciting first for me. There are a variety of additional rooms such as a yoga studio.

Their changing room also has a small sauna, in addition to the showers and towels, which was a surprising treat. In general all of their facilities are nice and new. There's even some seating areas in the corners including small outdoor spaces just to hang out and get some air.

The staff are friendly and the prices are competitive. They had an opening promotion where my friends and I got to try our first day for free.

Me and my friends loved this place. It's pretty huge in a great way. I liked the fact that they've great selection of regular gym equipments to work out and super spacious. This place had a different grading system than my novice experience with climbing gyms, but wasn't a problem after the first few minutes. I'd totally recommend this place as a Bouldering gym.
