Namaskar Yoga Studio has been my home for yoga classes for many years. Every teacher that I have studied with at this studio has been exceptional! I have never been disappointed in a class as long as I've been going there, which is probably about 8-10 years. From the moment you enter the front door, you are transported to a Zen state. There are books on the philosophy of yoga to peruse, in case you arrive early. If you're in the mood to make a purchase you'll find beautiful scarves, new mats and other yoga essentials for sale. And, my personal favorite is the basket of intentions written on tiny cards, such as Calm, Light, or Love. You can hold one, and, meditate on it. Set that as your intention for practice when you first arrive. Everyone I have met there is respectful of each other, and, of Yoga. Namaskar is the real deal. It's not just exercise. Alexandra sets the tone for genuine Yoga practice from the teachers that she hires, to the atmosphere she provides. Chris and Lane are my teachers for Mindful Yoga classes. The Studio also offers various workshops for Sound Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and other Yoga techniques. Try Yoga at Namaskar. You won't be disappointed, even if you are just looking for an exercise studio. You might be pleasantly surprised at the authenticity of this place. And, staying in shape is just the added benefit, in my humble opinion.

been to Namaskar twice now, and I have to say that I was very pleased with my experience both times. the instructor Scott, was great -- his instructions were very clear and easy to follow along (as someone who is fairly new to yoga, this was extremely helpful). I also appreciate how he lets his guests go at their own pace without feeling rushed. I appreciate his punctuality and sense of humor. I've only done the $15 Slow Flow community yoga class since it's within my budget, and I really think it's a good deal for the price. I would definitely recommend this yoga studio ☺️

Lance is full of energy, laughs and wisdom. I’ve been practicing yoga since 2004, but I always learn something new from Lance. He is detailed oriented, articulate and gives options for modifications, if you’re newer. I highly recommend checking out his class.

This was my first class with Mia, who was terrrific. I like how each of the instructors are so unique. I’ve taken several Yin classes now and every one could not be more different. I like that each instructor brings their own experiences, practices, and personalities to each class, and while the practices may be similar, the execution and results are often very different, which makes the classes very interesting. You never know what you’ll get, which is a very good thing!

Namaskar is a wonderful yoga studio. I have tried many studios in Chicago and elsewhere and Namaskar is at the top of my list. There is a large variety of classes for all levels and styles of yoga. All of the classes are accessible to anyone (beginner or expert ) because of the quality and welcoming nature of the teachers. Namaskar attracts the best teachers - highly skilled and just wonderful people. The studio is warm and welcoming and has built a community. I have been going to Namaskar for 10 years and love it!

What can I say about Namaskar? It's a wonderful tiny sanctuary on Southport Avenue where the teachers and students are passionate and involved. I love this studio. Wonderful teachers. Great vibe. SO much heart. I have been coming to this studio regularly for several years. I feel I'm part of a community. Alexandra pivoted rather quickly to online zoom classes after we all had to shelter in place and it's been nice to have Namaskar right in my home. But I love the studio space and can't wait to get back to it.
And since Momence asked, here's my thoughts on a class I took this morning:
I love Aja's classes. They are sometimes surprising, in the best of ways, and always centering. She checks in with her students at the start of each class to see if there's anything anyone wants to work on. She gauges the energy of the participants and the room and the class grows from there. Her teaching is thoughtful and considerate of everyone's personal needs, offering modifications as needed to poses and practices. She encourages us to focus on our breath and she offers sankalpas for those who choose to incorporate intention and affirmation into their practice. Sometimes we chant. The variety and flow in Aja's classes are created by the loving energy and confidence she brings to the studio. I always leave her classes with vibrant strength and energy and a calm yoga mind. Thanks, Aja! And thanks Namaskar, for the wonderful studio, classes, and the teachers you offer to the community.

This is an absolute gem of a yoga studio! The owner, Alexandra, is so incredibly warm, kind, and welcoming, and the space itself is just so warm and comforting and friendly. All of the teachers are amazing, whether you are looking for a more slow-paced restorative class, or a faster paced vinyasa class. They also have a wide variety of special events and workshops and I've enjoyed everything I've attended.
If you're looking for a true neighborhood yoga studio, I can't recommend Namaskar enough. If you try it, I know that you'll fall in love, too!

After many years of taking corporate yoga classes I wanted to support a smaller local studio. I found Namaskar and it was a great fit. The studio is what yoga should be -- back to the basics. I love the simplicity of the space, the knowledgeable instructors, and the diverse community who attends these classes. I have since moved from Chicago but have been overdue in writing a review for this studio as it is a true gem that allows you to "slow down" in this fast pace world!

Namaskar has been my yoga studio for the last four years and I love it. The vibe is down-to-earth, welcoming and caring and all of the teachers that I've taken class from are knowledgeable and compassionate. When I went to the studio (in pre-covid times) it was always clean and well maintained with ample supplies. In these covid times, the on-line (via Zoom) offerings run smoothly (and the recent addition of recorded classes makes getting class even more convenient). The owner is a very good communicator and responds promptly to inquiries and has, on more than one occasion gone out of her way to assist me. For sure check out Mindful Yoga with Chris N. and Restorative with Sam B. I do occasionally drop in at other yoga studios , but haven't found any other that I like as much as Namaskar. I always leave class feeing much better than when I arrived.

I was introduced to Namaskar, when the shutdown started, by my daughter who lives in Chicago and had taken classes at the studio. I live in PA and was doing virtual classes from my local studio, and my daughter suggested we take a class at Namaskar “together”. I’ve been taking classes there regularly since then, and I do Sam’s Restorative class most Sunday nights. It’s a great class! Sam gives great instruction, really helps you reflect and offers lots of options for poses. It’s a great way to wind down the weekend and get ready for the work week. She also teaches a Reki/Sound Bath workshop which is amazing! Alexandra, the owner, always responds immediately to my questions. She’s also introduced this wonderful feature where you can sign up for virtual class, and if you miss it (or just want to do it later), they will send you a link to a video of the class which lasts till midnight the following day. This has given me the chance to sample some other classes, and those teachers have all been really good too. Namaskar is a very special studio that I highly recommend!

I have LOVED every experience at Namaskar. It has been the thing I have missed most during the pandemic. I have been working to build my spirituality and use yoga as more of a meditative practice rather than for exercise. The way that Sam and ALL of the people who filled in for her conducted restorative yoga helped me to meditate and get in touch with myself without saying anything about spirituality - that space was given to me. It’s the most relaxing setting and I leave there 100% restored and amazed at how relaxed I can actually be every time. It’s not a huge studio so it’s cozy and the groups are fairly small - it’s such a personal experience. They have all the props necessary to put you in the most relaxed state you’ve ever been in. The instructors brighten when they see all of us yogis and genuinely connect with each person - it is so clear this is their passion and they respect and value our health and well-being and work hard to make our experiences as full and helpful as possible. I bought a class for my friend for her birthday and she LOVED restorative yoga with Sam. Can’t say enough (obviously) about Namaskar - can’t wait for it to re-open!! HIGHLY recommend.

Namaskar Yoga is by far one of the best yoga studios in Chicago. Prior to coming to Namaskar, I tried out a bunch of studios in the Lakeview/Logan Square/Lincoln Park area and found that while most places offered a variety of classes, none of the classes or teachers incorporated a mindfulness or spiritual component. If I wanted to just learn “poses” or wanted a “workout” with yoga, I would go on YouTube or go to Core Power (nothing against Core Power but it’s very Westernized yoga).
The first time I took a class at Namaskar, I instantly felt at home and was blown away by how intentional, holding, supportive and welcoming the space and the teachers were. They have a variety of classes and incredibly well-trained, spiritual, and trauma-informed instructors. I’m especially drawn to Sam and Aja’s restorative classes and leave both of their classes each time feeling incredibly held, supported, nurtured, rejuvenated and empowered. I’ve never experienced a more healing restorative practice in my life than with these two women- they are truly incredible and hold such a warm, loving, healing and inviting space for you each time. Sam’s sound baths are also one of the most amazing and healing experiences I’ve ever encountered- If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a must! (I bring my friends all the time and each one has been just as blown away as I always am!)
On top of the amazing instructors and classes offered, the studio in general has such a welcoming and warm energy to it and feels so much like a home away from home. When you come here, it really does feel like you become more than just a client/customer- you become part of a community and family. It’s such a wonderful and heart-warming feeling to feel welcomed at Namaskar.
Practically speaking- the studio is always super clean and always feels so cozy. They have a lot of props and each instructor usually plays some gentle, relaxing music- which is so lovely! They’re all super laid back, friendly, welcoming and I was so surprised how they remembered my name even after my first class!
I can’t say enough amazing things about Namaskar because this studio has been SO impactful in my healing journey and has helped me to really explore, cultivate and strengthen my spiritual practice. It truly is one of a kind and a hidden gem! So happy and thankful I found Namaskar! If you haven’t checked it out yet, I HIGHLY suggest you do- you won’t be disappointed :)

I found this place two years ago while searching for a yoga studio that offered Yin classes and what I discovered was a cozy and unpretentious home away from home. The studio is warm and grounding with subtle, meaningful accents that separate it from the commercial feel of other studios/gyms. The teachers are PHENOMENAL; all having unique and authentic approaches to yoga and all curating an inviting space for growth and introspection. Namaskar is the best thing that I’ve stumbled across in recent years and I highly recommend to anyone to who wants to grow physically and spiritually in a truly awesome community.

Namaskar without a doubt is one of the best run and energetically most beautiful studios In Chicago. The studio owner has clearly made significant efforts to find, hire and retain some of the best teachers in Chicago and their offerings reflect that.
If you’re new to yoga or an experienced yogi looking to get out of your head and let someone else help guide your experience Namaskar is among the best of choices that you’ll find in Chicago.

I love this yoga studio. In person, it’s mellow, cozy and comfortable. During social distancing, it’s portable, flexible and accessible. The studio offers a variety of packages at different price points and they continue to increase their flexibility during the pandemic. For example, in case of computer issues (hello, summer storms) or timing conflicts, the classes are recorded and can be accessed later for a 24 hour period. The owner is regularly checking in with students to see if different times or class lengths work for more people. She is trying to make the studio as accessible as possible.
The studio offers a wide variety of classes that can meet the needs of every yoga student. I am a perpetual advanced beginner at best, so I mostly stick to the Basics, Yin and Restorative classes. But what is great about each and every instructor is that they will guide to a position, but knowing their students’ abilities, they can modify the instruction to a higher or lower level to meet each student’s needs. There is never any judgement and always lots of explanation and instruction. The instructors are focused on doing the pose correctly and are being especially careful during remote classes to teach students in order to avoid injury or stress. It has been very helpful in the absence of direct, in-person correction. There are also lots of additional special workshops and events, sometimes as fundraisers for a cause, that are worth checking out. These classes have been so much more effective than say, videotapes. The classes tend to blend a bit of familiar activity each week, while changing things up enough not to get bored and to stay challenged.
One of the silver linings of moving to Zoom classes is the ability to access Namaskar from anywhere, not just Chicago. It is easy to register for packages and classes through the MINDBODY app. Just a note that if the app puts the class in your calendar, it will be in the central time zone and you will need to adjust it yourself if you are in another time zone. I am hoping that the Zoom option will continue even after classes move back to the physical studio. No matter where you are in the world or in yoga, check out this studio.

I LOVE this studio. Before the pandemic, I was going to Namaskar once a week for a class with one of my all-time favorite teachers, Lance. I liked the studio and the class schedule, but because it's a hike from my place in Logan Square, I would go there only once a week.
When classes moved to online, I started taking more classes at Namaskar. Now I practice there 3-4 times a week, sometimes more.
All the teachers I've practiced with there are excellent. The class schedule is robust, with a nice selection of classes throughout the day.
Having the opportunity to practice here more has been a big silver lining during the pandemic.

I am generally a little quiet but have felt so seen and embraced by Alexandra and the teachers. It’s a great place.

Following a yoga instructor first brought me to Namaskar yoga studio, but it was the vibe of the studio that kept me coming back to try different instructors and a lot of great options for classes. When COVID came and practicing in a studio was no longer an option, Namaskar, it’s amazing teachers, very organized and capable leader/owner (Alex), provided the breath of fresh air needed to maintain the calmness only provided by a yoga practice. From beginner to seasoned regular Namaskar will make you feel welcome and help us all get through this together. I cannot thank you enough Namaskar!

I had been out of the yoga game for many years when I blindly gave Namaskar a chance. I could not have asked for a more welcoming and genuine studio in which to practice.
There is a wide range of instructors, so you're bound to find someone that you really vibe with. They're all incredibly knowledgeable and friendly to boot.
Namaskar offers a plethora of different types of classes offered. I'm a big fan of all of their intermediate (Vinyassa) classes, as they're normally a great mix of strength building and breathing/meditation.
I could not recommend this place enough. And it's always good to support a local spot.

I love this company. The teachers are amazing, it is calm and relaxed and there is no pressure to push and get the highest level of pose. I have had the best time recovering from an injury here and just moving my body. A special gem.

Namaskar is a wonderful yoga studio. They offer a variety of classes and workshops with excellent yoga teachers who are deeply committed to the students who go there. The inspirational quotes along the baseboard are a great find when you are in a challenging pose and working to maintain steadiness and ease on your mat. I highly recommend this gem of a studio!

I love this studio. It’s small and friendly, and creates a warm community. I was a total yoga newbie when I first went to Namaskar, and I felt both welcomed and encouraged. I’ve now taken classes and workshops with four different instructors and they’ve all been great. I can’t recommend Namaskar highly enough for anyone who wants to feel supported and inspired in their practice.

Namaskar is such a beautiful and special community. Every teacher I’ve practiced with knows the names of their students and asks about updates from their lives. I immediately felt warmth and true care when I began practicing at Namaskar. There’s a great variety of classes, from energizing flow to suuuper nourishing and special restorative classes. I’ve also loved taking their workshops, including sound healing, yoda Nidra, self compassion, and kulas exploring different aspects of yogic tradition. The thing I love the most is that all teachers, in different ways, always center curiosity, exploration, and tuning into oneself on a day-to-day, moment-to-moment basis. While I have had great improvements in strength and flexibility, these have come about organically, rather than through striving for any expected result. This philosophy feels different than some studios I’ve encountered. Namaskar has been a haven for nourishment and connection for me. While I really miss being in the studio in person, I’m so grateful to be able to attend virtual classes in the meantime, and am very thankful they’re taking collective health seriously.

Namaskar is my favorite yoga studio. It has a friendly, accepting vibe and expert instructors who attract new clients and keep veteran yogis coming back to their classes for years. Namaskar also offers workshops, yoga nidras, sound baths, and other relaxing/educational opportunities. It has created a warm, laid-back community that I am happy to be a part of. I can’t imagine the neighborhood without Namaskar!

Now that I've tried a bunch of studios I would give Namaskar a 4 out of 5. Teachers tend be good and, like any studio, each is different and you develop preferences. There are two reasons I couldn't give it five stars. The first is it's very small and some classes get crowded. I'm tall so it's hard to get comfortable if it's crowded. For the amount a class is I would like for the classes to be a little smaller or limited. It's also tough getting in and out of the studio as one class will be finishing up and people are waiting outside to come in and it's a log jam. A small percentage of the people aren't the most polite either. I've been going to two other places and the vibe is different there.

This is a cozy yoga studio that really has a community feel to it. There's no judgement and awesome instructors who keep the true meaning of yoga as a theme throughout their classes. I'm a nurse and this works perfectly with my busy schedule as I'm able to sign up for classes on individual days. Each instructor has a different vibe but all are wonderful and truly hope for you to succeed. I absolutely adore this studio and I don't plan on ever leaving.
