I recently joined this lovely Pilates studio, and it has truly been a transformative experience. From day one, I was welcomed with warmth, encouragement, and genuine kindness. As someone who was relatively new to Pilates reformer, I felt supported every step of the way by their incredible team of instructors — each one knowledgeable, attentive, and so positive.

In just a short time, my strength, posture, and confidence have improved more than I imagined possible. Every class leaves me feeling grounded, strong, and inspired. The owner and instructors are some of the kindest, most uplifting people I’ve ever met, and the sense of community they’ve built is something really special.

The sound baths and meditation classes are especially amazing. The special events that are hosted are varied and of great interest.

If you’re looking for a place that nurtures both body and spirit, this studio is it. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

I just became a member and have had a fantastic experience so far. I’ve taken class from Dwayne and Lisa (the owner). I’m new to Pilates and they are so welcoming and helpful with adjusting my form. Really good energy in the space.

I love this studio! I used to take shots at this bar and now I'm working out here, which is hilarious. The instructors are awesome, knowledgeable, kind, and helpful, the studio is gorgeous (amazing for socials), and I love their little shop. I'm on a month long hiatus, but can't wait to come back in November. Highly recommend! All levels are welcome, so don't be too intimidated if you haven't done pilates before!

Six months ago I walked into the newly opened Namastate of Mind with trepidation.

After years of treating chronic pain, I felt ready to begin working more intentional movement back into my life and this beautiful studio seemed like just the place to give it a go.

150+ classes and wellness sessions later, I can't recommend this studio highly enough.

The owner and her diverse team of instructors and practitioners exude genuine interest in making all guests feel welcome and supported.

The wide range of yoga, pilates, sound healing and mindfulness offerings make this a studio for all - from those wanting to ease into wellness & movement to those looking for a power workout.

And...you won't find a more beautiful space to practice your self care. From the ivy-covered walls of the courtyard to the fabric covered walls of the yoga room and everywhere in between, Namastate of Mind is an urban oasis.

Happy 6-month Anniversary to Lisa & her lovely team! Thank you for creating such a beautiful environment and community.

Such a beautiful and really cool space! I really enjoyed the open level reformer class. Plenty of cues and modifications given. Will definitely be back for more classes! Such a great addition to the neighborhood.

Beautiful studio in Lincoln park. I went for an outdoor morning yoga class, it was challenging but beginner friendly as well. Studio offers mats so you don’t need to bring anything.

Suzanne, our instructor, was very welcoming!

Mom was bullied by instructor, yes she was the only person of color in the room. I talked to others and it seems this is a common routine by this studio!

I really enjoyed my experience. It was my first time doing reformer pilates and the instructor (Shauni) was so helpful and kind. She explained everything really well. And she was checking on everyone making sure everyone in class was comfortable. Plus the studio is sooo cute!!! I will definitely be back.

In addition to it being a beautiful space (can’t want to check out the oasis) I thoroughly enjoyed the pre/post natal yoga class—it was the stretch I didn’t know I needed! The instructor, Shay, is clearly passionate about the care needed for pre and post natal bodies and she guided us through the class based on what each individual mother needed (chest/heart openers, hip openers openers) as well as some more restorative releases as well. Thank you!

Shay is amazing! The postnatal / baby & me class is so much fun to bond with my baby daughter and so restorative and strengthening for my postpartum body. Highly recommend the class. I'm so excited to have this in my weekly routine. Also, the space is gorgeous and serene. I could spend the entire day at Namastate.

I just took my first class with Duane who was wonderful and really helped me with modifications!!

I’m also very tall and he paid such close attention to detail and form which I have never had before.

Excited to come back and take his class again. Also the space is just beautiful.

I attended a Pilates class here expecting the precision and professionalism this discipline is known for. Instead, I left feeling publicly embarrassed by an instructor’s comment that crossed the line from correction to ridicule. When she said, “I’ve never seen anyone do that before,” it wasn’t constructive—it was isolating. No one else in the class was addressed that way.

This isn’t about being sensitive or resisting feedback. I welcome correction—that’s how we improve. But respect is not a luxury in fitness instruction; it’s a BASELINE . In any studio, especially one that promotes wellness and growth, tone matters. Students are placing trust—not just in technique, but in being treated with dignity as they work on their bodies and confidence.

To justify that kind of delivery as “just how she is” or “European directness” doesn’t change how it lands. Not everyone thrives under "tough love"— and it's not sad or weak to prefer feedback delivered with respect. Expecting courtesy isn't "slander.” Accountability should not depend on how many people tolerate a behavior—it should hinge on whether that behavior aligns with the values your studio claims to uphold.

I shared my experience in this review not out of spite, but from a sincere place of expecting professionalism and respect in a wellness setting.

If you’re someone who seeks motivation through mutual respect and intentional instruction, this may not be the right environment. It wasn’t for me.

A lovely little studio! I did a yoga class and a sound bath within the first few weeks of opening. The owner was so kind and showed me around the studio and the instructors were thoughtful and engaging. The space itself is so cool as it used to be a bar/restaurant and they’ve completely transformed it! They have yoga classes (both inside and outdoor) as well as Pilates (both group and private). A lot of options and a great spot for a new studio!

The most beautiful and tranquil wellness space in Chicago. This place is stunning. The yoga and Pilates classes I’ve tried are incredible. Huge shout of to Suzanne, Duwayne, Tatiana and Lisa. You are AMAZING. Namastate feels like a health spa right downtown in Chicago!

I have never written a Google review before, but I felt I needed to after attending a reformer class at this location. As someone who has been doing pilates for YEARS, this class was listed as Open Level but was absolutely NOT open to all levels. This was my biggest issue. It was extremely challenging (which I am usually all for, as long as you can build up to it), but no levels or modifications were offered, even when it was clear that everyone in the class was struggling to even accomplish a move. Even for people with past injuries, no modifications were offered. I found this potentially unsafe, and falsely advertised as being welcoming to beginners which made me feel a bit sad if this was someone’s first exposure to pilates. The space between reformers was also too narrow to complete quite a few of the movements programmed in class. A cute studio space, but I won’t be returning to the studio, and unfortunately cannot recommend it to friends, especially those who are new to pilates. I had initially planned to bring a beginner friend, but now am so grateful she wasn’t able to make it! I think she wouldn’t have tried it again after experiencing this.

I was lucky enough to enjoy a class here the other day. It was Hatha and this class was truly enchanting! The space is lovely, but Shay is a divine teacher! I adore her classes! Being in the space is a breath of fresh air and the way she led the class was so authentic and pure! Please - visit the studio and even more you must take a class with Shay especially her Hatha. It’s heaven on earth! ❤️

This Pilates studio has quickly become my happy place. The peaceful, calming vibes make every class feel like a mini wellness retreat—I get a great workout and feel like I’m meditating at the same time. It’s the perfect reset.

Everyone who works at Namastate of Mind is truly SO so kind and welcoming; I felt at home from the start. They offer free coffee and tea (such a lovely touch!), and the beautiful outdoor space adds to the serene atmosphere. I also love the community events they host— such a fun way to meet people in the neighborhood.

With a super flexible schedule and tons of class options, I actually *want* to work out—and I feel stronger, healthier, and more energized because of it. I truly look forward to being here every day! <3
