Was charged extra for attending class at this studio when no other Chicago studio has charged me since d being in Chicago. The charges of course were irreversible.

I've been going to OTF for many years and have been to a number of studios, including River West, West Loop and Wicker Park, as well as studios across the country when I travel. I absolutely love OTF as it has truly transformed my (previously nonexistent) relationship with exercise. I look forward to exercise now because of OTF. It has taught me that I can do what I once thought was drudgery. Because of the accountability and positive experiences from OTF I now get in at least 30 minutes of exercise a day even on my non-OTF days. It’s like taking a daily vitamin. OTF is an important part of my exercise regimen because it challenges me and breaks up the monotony of exercising alone at home. I LOVE Coach Mike! He is one of a kind, down to earth, encouraging and so good about explaining weight lifting form and tips on crushing your goals. It’s like having a personal trainer in a group setting. Coach Mike explains things so well. I look forward to every class with him and his classes definitely keep me coming back. Coach Mike, Anton, Becka and Kam are all fantastic coaches and people too. The staff are just awesome. I love how positive the coaches and staff are. I hope that River West OTF does everything it can to ensure that these coaches keep teaching at River West!!!

Great for Beginners and Super Motivating!
I really enjoy Orangetheory! The workouts are fun, the coaches are supportive with high energy!, and it's perfect even if you have no gym experience. You get guidance every step of the way, and it's easy to follow along. I’ve never felt stronger or more motivated!

OTF Riverwest is hands down the best fitness studio my wife and I have been to. The energy, the community, and the coaching are all top-tier. Special shoutout to the incredible coaches Kam, Rebecca, Mike, Anton, and Mila! They each bring their unique style and motivation to every class. They push you to be your best while keeping it fun and supportive. Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned member, this crew makes sure you feel seen and challenged. Can’t recommend it enough!

I got a complementary class from orangetheory while I booked movie tickets. I am so frustrated that I fell for this gimmick. They charged me for not attending the class (due to personal reasons) and charged me without informing. The reason told was that I took up a spot and thus got charged. In return they asked me to attend another session after which they would reimburse this money. So, now I get two spots for the money???? The logic is brain defying and only a way to force people to attend the sessions against their will. A WAY TO EXTORT MONEY. Please keep this in mind when you consider them for your workout sessions.

Been a member for years now and took many classes nationwide and overseas. I took Summers 90 minute class and she is such a kind soul yet great otf coach. The staff is welcoming, kind and know what they are doing. I will be making this my primary otf in Chicago. Thank you for making my Sunday.

Got to pay to play OTF River West. The musical chairs with staff just sucks. My wife and I are premium members and have loved working with Tommy, Clint, Bailey, Trish, Rose and many other trainers in the past. But it’s impossible to be invested when trainers and front desk change like the seasons in Chicago. Highly recommend the trainers, but no sense of community at this studio (I have been to many others).

I have been an Orangetheory member for a little over a year now. This location with Tommy as a coach was the first class I ever took and I was immediately hooked. I have since tried dozens of OTF locations across the country, and live closer to two other locations in the city, but the class atmosphere Tommy and Bailey create is second to none. It is because of these coaches that I have had my roommates, family members, and friends join the river west location as their home studio over the past year.
I am disheartened to hear from other members that management is not recognizing the value that these two coaches bring to the table. Without them, I would absolutely take my membership to another location—preferably one where Tommy and Bailey are—and would encourage my friends and family to do the same.
I am hopeful the coaches and front desk staff can be valued and supported in any way they need so that this river west location can continue to thrive.

I joined Orangetheory a few months ago, and I am loving it. The classes are challenging but inclusive, and the coaches inspire you to push harder without forcing you beyond your comfort level. The front desk staff is helpful with every inquiry I've had: lending a heart rate monitor because mine died, helping with billing, etc.
It has recently come to light that the franchise owners and upper management of this location aren't treating the coaches and staff with the respect that they deserve, which is causing turmoil and high turnover. This is incredibly disappointing—owners and management need to wake up. The coaches and the front desk staff are solely responsible for the great experience that members have, and they are the ones who keep us coming back.
People I know and appreciate at OTF: coaches Tommy, Bailey, Clint, and staff member Armando. They are incredible at what they do and each of them has had a positive impact on my experience. I do not think about owners or upper management—not sure I've even met any of them.
OTF is a significant monthly investment, and I do not feel comfortable giving my money to people who aren't good to their staff. Treat your employees as humans, particularly when their ability to do their job depends entirely on their health and wellbeing.
I love going to this studio, and I'm hopeful for some positive change for the coaches and staff. I will continue to check in with them moving forward.

I’ve been an OTF member since 2016 or 2017. My first studio was Wicker Park, then Mount Prospect, and I’ve been with River West since they’ve opened because I followed my Wicker Park coaches to River West. If it weren’t for ALL the other locations all over the world (and my founding member rate) I would have canceled my membership years ago. The franchise owners of Wicker Park and River West are awful. They run their staff into the ground which creates high turnover. With a revolving door of front desk staff and coaches it’s impossible to retain members. All of this prevents community from building and growing.
Plenty of other studios have far more socials, incentives, competitions, and consistent front desk staff as well as consistent coaches. DO NOT make this your home studio. A studio manager can’t change anything if the franchise owners are the worst. And I promise you, the franchise owners are the worst. As a founding member, every single coach has told me that it is the franchise owners specifically as to why they have left. What’s worse, some of the former staff and coaches simply transferred locations to work for a different franchise within a few miles of this studio.
If you’re looking for something temporary, then sure this place is great - just make sure you take a class from Tommy or Bailey. Expect zero community. And don’t think taking up an issue with the studio manager will help. They too are part of the high turn over culture that is the worst franchise of all Orangetheory.

I have been an OTF member for over 3 years and have been to many of the Chicago studios over that time. I have been attending the River West classes for over a year now and can without a doubt say that Coach Bailey and Coach Tommy are two of the best coaches I have ever had. They are incredibly kind, passionate and create an environment that is motivating and fun. I hope that management recognizes how much hard work these two coaches put in everyday and how valuable they are to the studio. In the West Loop area there are tons of other classes and gyms and it’s these two coaches that keep me coming back to OTF.

To start off, I have no issues with orange theory itself, it’s this location specifically. Part of the reason I love going to OTF is the sense of community they have there and the workouts really do kick your butt and get you into shape. I also think Tommy, Bailey and Clint are great coaches and if it wasn’t for them, I’m not sure as many people would go to this location tbh. The reason I’m writing this review is because I don’t feel the management at this location is creating the best environment for members and their staff.
I am thinking of a specific time where I over heard the manager (I think her name is Tonya?) speak badly about one of the staff there. I felt very awkward overhearing this and trying to pretend I didn’t. I used to work at a place with a toxic culture where others were called out in front of their coworkers and I’m just not here for it, especially in front of members. You can sense the tension sometimes between management and the front desk, feels like they’re on edge and doesn’t make it enjoyable to come. Everyone has their own experience here, but this is mine and I will be sticking to my normal location.

Terrible, terrible experience trying to bring a friend to her first workout. We got there 22 min in advance, and they wouldn’t let her do the workout. I’ve been a member (at a different studio) for 5.5 years, and have brought many guests to many different locations and there is no way they couldn’t have gotten her through the intro in 22min. The SA was in a bad mood just didn’t want to try. Way to lose out on a potential customer because you couldn’t do your job!

I showed up 22 minutes early to class as a first timer to orange theory, not new to fitness, and they refused to let me join the class due to “policy”. They said that since I was not there 30 minutes in advance, it was not enough time to sign paperwork and tell me about the class.
Overall, really disappointing experience because I was looking forward to trying it, and I went to the class with out of town friends and had to leave while they worked out. Very confusing business decision by the front desk, completely turned me off of orange theory and will not be returning.

First time trying a group fitness anything. I was afraid of not keeping up, but after seeing the boyfriends commitment and consistency after a month, I thought I’d give it a go. The staff is great at encouraging good form and at a good pace. Orange Theory River West is super clean, very friendly, and professional. I’m considering increasing my frequency from 2 to 3 workouts a week. If you’re considering OT, there is no downside to giving it a try with the first free session.

I have been coming to this location for the past few months but I will not be coming back. The girl at the front desk was incredibly rude to a girl who attended the class upon check in. Just overhearing this was enough. I may go to another location but if this is how this business operates then I might just find another chain.

I am a HUGE FAN OF THIS STUDIO SPECIFICALLY! I had tried a class at a different studio and wasnt a fan. Was referred to this studio by a friend and OMG THE TRAINERS HERE make all the difference! Caroline, Jess and Ceciliy are GREAT! Their choice of music and overall energy while coaching keeps me going! Everyone here comes in with a good attitude. My name isnt easy, yet all the staff knew me by name within a couple weeks or joining. Its the little things at this studio that go such a long way. Always clean and I always leave feeling great! Deff more cost effective than getting a personal trainer! Join... you won't regret it. :)

I cancelled this membership due to the inflexibility of the front desk. This OTF location is incredibly disappointing as I have been a member of several different locations (Logan Square and Bannockburn/Lake Forest when working in the suburbs). There were two instances with the front desk where I came in 5-10 minutes late, and they wouldn't let me participate in the work out because I was more than 5 minutes late. The first was not being early enough for my "intro" work out (even though I had worked out for years at other OTFs). I kept going because I live so close. This time, I hustled to get there as quickly as I could in the snow (bus schedule was late due to storm) after work, and they still didn't let me work out because of "policy." I cancelled my membership because of this. I've gone to several other places in the city (including other OTFs) that still let you work out even if you're late (which several people are).
Classes are the same you would get at other OTFs- but music/coaches have been better at other locations (this location- several coaches talk through the entire class).
If you're looking to work out a location that is understanding and offers flexibility - this IS NOT the place to go.

I previously used Classpass to try different gyms/workout studios around Chicago and I never enjoyed anywhere enough to sign up and become a member. Then I saw that Orangetheory was opening a location in River West which is conveniently located between work and home. I had never taken a class before but I had heard good things, so I decided to join and advantage of their founding member rates and I am so glad I did! I love that every class is different. All of the coaches are super friendly, encouraging and are very helpful with modifications, if needed. No matter your fitness level, it feels like everyone in class is working as a team to reach the same goal.

Having worked for an athletic brand for years, I’ve experienced a multitude of workouts, coaches, and brands. I had heard a ton about OTF and was excited to give it a shot. First class was amazing. Coach Caroline and the general atmosphere of the studio reeled me in signed up immediately. I’ve been going about 3 times a week for 4 months now. I feel great and love the studio. It’s disappointing to write this review, because I literally love OTF and have been to many all over the US, a loyal member for 3yrs+. But, this branch has been terrible from the moment I started. I transitioned to this gym from West Loop, due to convenience.
From the horribly unprofessional and cold front desk to the snobby Head Coach, Jess, this branch makes people feel unwelcomed and as if you are lucky to be working out at “their” gym. Jess’ Class has awful music and she talks the entire class, which is surprising considering the high degree OTF holds for Head Coaches. They do have one coach, Anthony, that is a new coach. He is genuine and kind—great music, if you must go to this gym, catch his class!
