Yoga on the lake. What could be more relaxing and spiritually uplifting? My wife and I have joined Scott's classes on Morse Avenue Beach for the last couple of years. It's perfect for people of a certain age (like us Baby Boomers). With the wind coming off Lake Michigan on a beautiful grassy spot, Scott takes his students through a series of challenging, but doable poses, focusing each class on different parts of the body. His calming voice, non-judgmental attitude and sense of humor make this a worthwhile experience so when you walk off the mat you feel renewed and relaxed. Namaste.

Phoenix Yoga Project on the Lakefront is FANTASTIC. Scott is the founder he's an outstanding instructor! He explains each pose so I learn how it helps my body become stronger. His tone is just right and he's a great guy. The lake, the trees and breeze adds to the experience and the diverse community makes the class even more enjoyable. The the BEST part is Scott's extreme knowledge, he's a GREAT GUY in so many ways. All of the Phoenix Yoga teachers are wonderful and fun.

There is nothing better than starting the weekend with yoga in the park in Rogers Park. Yesterday's class seemed to be just what the doctor ordered. We did one specific stretch for the IT band. This was what I needed. Scott always offers adjustments so you can accomodate your exact yoga level. Beginner, intermediate or advanced there is something for everyone. Great community and fantastic instructors. Peace and healing for all.

I adore Phoenix Yoga Project! They've been my go-to for yoga since the midst of the pandemic, since they offer a hybrid of formats: Zoom, the beach, the park, etc. And it's free (though donations are appreciated)! The instructors are fantastic--experienced, talented, good communicators--and fun. Karalee always keeps us in stitches, and Scott makes all of the positions very clear. The affordability and variety of formats and locations makes PYP incredibly accessible, which in turn allows me and others to practice yoga more frequently, reaping the benefits. PYP is an incredibly valuable resource in Chicago's fitness landscape.

Beth's class is the perfect way to end a weekend to create a feeling of calm. Beth really understands the benefits of restorative yoga and I'm always impressed with how I can start off tense and end up relaxed doing the poses she shows us. She is a gifted instructor and generous to offer her class with us weekly.

I’m so grateful for this yogi collective. It’s wonderful to practice together outside and “touch grass,” as the kids say these days. These classes are perfect for the average human; not overly intense like some yoga studios tend to be. Young and old alike are welcome. I’m encouraged when people bring their dogs and children sometimes too! And all of this for free? A dream come true. I will definitely be donating to keep this project going and spreading the good vibes ✨ I love Tarah’s Tuesday night class at Winnemac park— such a great mixture of stretch & flex 💪

We made it all the way to November 17 for outdoor classes with Scott this year. Can't wait for outdoor classes to resume next spring (2025). In the meantime, I'll be stretching with Tara indoors.
One of the best things of summer in Chicago is Phoenix Yoga in the park, and you know Chicago in the summer is the best! Phoenix Yoga is donation based and super-inclusive. The classes are meant for anyone, total beginner to advanced. Scott is an amazing teacher, and he sets the tone for all the teachers & classes. We know people who've moved out of the U.S. and still miss these classes! So if you're in Chicago, check them out.

I am a beginner in that I've done yoga only very sporadically and casually over my lifetime. Typically, I would not describe yoga as my favorite physical activity. Scott's class at the Morse Beach green space was amazing. He has a calming demeanor and a clear and thoughtful way of teaching that made me feel connected with the community around me, the Earth, and myself. I have some minor physical limitations and did not feel limited by this at all as Scott made me feel comfortable doing any needed modifications. His class felt nourishing for both my mind and body and I would highly recommend for all levels of yoga practice and even for those who think yoga is not for them!
