I’m not sure who’s idea it was to “update” but it was not a good idea, added a million more stair machines and elliptical and bicycles, I’ve never seen anyone waiting on those machines why would you need to add more? Then changes all the old ones to “updated “ one, I could not feel any of the muscles I usually would feel, can’t do elevated reverse lunches because you can’t use the plates to step on because they are so oily, it took me 15 mins to set up a machine just to realize I can’t even use it, the whole set up was unnecessary, I had to cancel which sucks .

I’ve been coming here since 2020 and have loved the gym since. However, yesterday they updated all of their equipment and I cannot be more dissatisfied. They took out so many key machines that I saw constantly in use, the Ab room is gone, and everything seems cluttered and unorganized now. Honestly the update is confusing to me. Ugh not a fan of the update and I want to switch gyms now.

Ryan gave me a tour of the gym and I loved it so much I signed up for the black card The equipment is great and works well with the app. It’s also great to work out at multiple locations but my favorite is the crystal lake gym. Everyone who works here is super nice and it’s clean and not crowded.

I guess taking your shoes off in between sets is frowned upon by the gym staff. Not only that but having a bag as well which makes no sense because where am I going to carry my drink, lifting straps etc….???? I’ve never had a problem with a bag at any PF across multiple states except for this one. PF is officially cancelled for me.

Normally, most of the many Planet Fitness I have gone to (10 other locations I have gone to in the North/Northwest Suburbs) the equipment is organized, the locker rooms are clean, and the staff is very personable and friendly. Not the case Sunday July 20th the men's locker was a mess at the sinks, paper towels on the back of the toilet, and 2 out of the 4 showers had garbage in them. This didn't include weights, cables and dumbbells laying around the PF360 station because people need their mother's to pick up after them and unfortunately the staff decided they weren't doing it, and then there were the smaller dumbbells mixed in on the larger dumbbell weight racks so the dumbbells didn't fit properly. I feel compelled to say something because I love going to all the different Planet Fitnesses and normally always pleased to find them clean and friendly. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the staff and members that day. I hope the next time I return there it will be a different experience.

7PM close is too early to close down on busy Saturday & Sundays. Many people work during the day eve on weekends.

Late opening, early close 7AM-7PM on Sat & Sun when only 2-3 minimum wage employees are normally present (typically standing around zero productivity at the front chatting) to "operate"this business model; but staying open until Midnight 12AM five other days of the week makes no sense.

I will give them some credit for keeping the place pretty clean and equipment in good shape for how old it is.

My daughter had a membership I was paying for. She left for college and wanted to cancel. Everything was done according to their terms and they continued to charge me for 4 months. Once my bank got involved everything was reversed. When my daughter tried to call from out of state they wouldn’t speak to her on the phone. The worker told her “that sucks, but you still need to come in”. So be careful if you try and cancel they won’t actually cancel the account and will make you jump through hoops to get it fixed.

The gym has a very good set of workout machines (though the 30 minute workout machines should be updated to have the features of the main line machines. The premium (forgot the exact title) lounge with its massage chairs/beds is worth the price. I highly recommend!

There's not one shower curtain in the men's locker room that actually fully covers the shower.

Not sure why this is such a consistent problem across PFs, but here is a tip: the shower curtain needs to be wider than the space it's covering. If the space is 30 inches, the curtain should be at least like 36.

I was introduced to the red-light therapy light at the Elgin location and loved it, so when I visited the Crystal lake location i asked if they had the red light therapy, I was told yes. Come to find out I was in the stand up tanning booth and now I'm burnt. Both machines look the same.. I have very fair complextion and don't do tanning booths. I'm extremely upset and in pain now. Teach your staff what the difference is......

Got my black card hoping to use the total body enhancement but very disappointed to see that they do not offer that anymore.. wish that they would promote more healthy practices instead of just offering a hybrid with tanning beds. I'm so impressed with the Crystal Lake Planet Fitness. Friendly staff and super clean gym floor and locker room. I've been to other gyms that were much more expensive and about half is clean. If a machine is down, it's repaired by the next time I come to the gym. There are plenty of cardio machines, I never need to wait for one. I also love the circuit room for a quick cardio workout. I was hesitant to join Planet Fitness but I'm so glad I did.

The facility and machines seem to be decent. The staff not so much. It seems they hire the least helpful staff they can find. I went in to sign up and was told I had to do so on the app. Nothing online explained this. Why would I have an app for a place I don’t belong to? Anyway. The staff member stood there while I downloaded the app and signed up then completed the process on his end. Told me about the perks. I had to ask where the tanning beds were. I asked about the red light therapy. He responded “I’m not sure, I haven’t researched it but you can google it”. I then said oh ok… well I guess I’ll just show myself around then? No offer to show me how to use the machines. I had to guess on how to use the elliptical. I still didn’t get it right but I manage to get on. The tanning beds are to be cleaned my the customer? It’s cheap and it will suffice, but again staff is less than desirable. I have heard similar complaints about other locations as well.

My 80 year old mother, who had never set foot in a gym before this spring, recently joined Planet Fitness. Though she was very nervous about going, the managers Andrea and Heather were kind, helpful and welcoming. Andrea explained how to use the treadmill and exercise bike, both women greet her each time she comes. Thanks to the great staff at the Crystal Lake Planet Fitness for helping an older lady start a healthy new habit!

Been a member for a few years. Overall decent equipment and price for membership; but no longer 24/7! During Covid hours were cut to 24/5. Now they aren't even open past 7pm on the weekends! I usually get my best workouts in when I get off of work at night. Can't even do that on the weekends now. Probably have to start looking for another gym if the hours don't change back to atleast midnight every day.

A few months back, I called the Crystal Lake, IL Planet Fitness to cancel my membership, since I no longer live in Illinois. I spoke to a young man who I believe was named Sam.

The young man told me I had an annual membership that would simply expire/end after 3.27, and that I would no longer be charged beyond that point. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not specifically documenting the young man's name, nor the date/time of the call, as I really didn't think I'd need to.

However, near the end of April, I noticed I'd been charged $22.99 on 4.17, despite being told my membership would simply end after 3.27. I called the Crystal Lake Planet Fitness (either on 4.30 or 5.1) and spoke to a young gal, who said she'd leave a note for her manager to call me back.

On 5.2 at 12:55 PM, the Crystal Lake PF General Manager Chuck called and left me a voicemail, indicating that he unfortunately could not refund the $22.99 monthly charge from 4.17. However, he also stated he couldn't refund a $39.00 annual charge from 5.1, with its cancellation cutoff being 4.25 (merely a handful of days before the charge posted).

Prior to hearing that voicemail, I hadn't even realized I was charged an annual fee, so it felt like a double-punch to the gut (especially since I'd just missed the cancellation cutoff).

I called Chuck back later that day to discuss the situation, explaining to him that I was specifically told my membership would end after 3.17, that I would not need to take any further action, and that my Planet Fitness account would not be charged again.

Chuck was very polite and professional, explaining that I actually had a month-to-month membership, and that annual memberships are extremely rare. He also apologized on behalf of his associate and their misinformation. However, he maintained that there was nothing he could do, and that I would not be refunded for either charge, despite the misinformation.

Adding insult to injury, had I known this was a month-to-month membership, I would have canceled it in the summer of 2021 before moving out of Illinois. Accordingly, I submitted monthly payments over the next year for something I didn't even use, adding extra sting to these last two charges.

Believe it or not...I get it! Having worked in customer service for several years, I understand how challenging it can be.

I received the misinformation from a young man (Sam?) who was likely new, nervous, and/or not sufficiently trained. Unfortunately, that's the new normal! Training has sadly become a luxury, which isn't fair to anyone involved. Frankly, I've been in that young man's shoes a time or two.

Also, I can understand where Chuck is coming from. After all, it's not his fault that one of his associates gave me misinformation. As the General Manager of that facility, I get that he can't simply hand out refunds anytime anyone claims to have been misled.

Also, with Planet Fitness' fees being reasonable in general, I'm guessing the management is instructed to refrain from issuing refunds altogether.

I understand the dilemma and, having worked in customer service, I'd never become the customer who gets upset, starts making demands, etc. However, despite my understanding, I was surprised that Chuck didn't offer any type of refund in accordance with the misinformation.

Accordingly, I feel I must continue to present my case while respectfully requesting a refund.

Please consider my formal request for a $61.99 refund, covering $22.99 from 4.17 and $39.00 from 5.1.
