Walked in to sign up, it felt dirty and overall had a chaotic atmosphere. The employees at the front desk looked like they just work their to afford a joint.

But the main reason for taking the time to review was the rude employee at the front desk. Im glad it happened though, as it pointed me back to an anytime fitness, a MUCH more upstanding gym.

Originally got the membership to shower while I was homeless. Doing better now, got my own place, and kept the membership to use for massages and tans. I have been a member of PF since 2017. I moved local 2+ years ago and this is my home location. Excluding a temp assistant manager and an ex-employee named Lee, I have to say the kids working here are great! I always feel a genuine welcome and a “part of” the minute I walk in. Employees are always available to help with whatever is needed. The manager does a great job keeping the place as clean & unstinky as possible. I never have to wait long to use any of the Black Card amenities. This far I have had no locker room issues when I forget my lock. I never feel judged or watched. It’s a very comfortable social atmosphere for anyone with anxiety about going or alone. My only 2 wishes are more exercise mats and 2 lbs. hand weights. Thanks to all for great workout experience every time.

I have been going to this planet fitness since August and it’s always a good experience. Even when it’s peak hours and busy, I can still get to the equipment I use. Plenty of cardio machines! All of the workers I have talked to have been very kind and willing to answer questions. CAROL specifically!! She helped me today with the spa area. She was so sweet and explained the whole process and made me feel comfortable to ask other questions. Great location overall!

I spent a lot of time in many gyms over past 30 year's l was an IFBB NATIONAL qualified bodybuilder in the late 90s this is my first membership in15 yrs. It is a difficult adjustment for me to see so many people more interested in their cell phones than training. Resting on a machine ,bench. or station with phone in hand for 10 min.or longer.this doesn't seem to be proper gym edicut.l have spoken to the people at the front desk and they claim there is no phone resting time limits on anything.

This Planet Fitness is spacious. So it’s never overly crowded. It’s always very clean. Everything seems to be updated & functioning properly. I would only add that I wish the staff were more attentive to us when we are looking for assistance. I am new to this and have been “donating” for months & just starting back and need lots of advice. I walked around absentmindedly with no one offering me assistance. It does make me lose motivation.

I go to this gym all of the time and wish the staff would police the equipment better. 2 guys were on a machine (the only one on the back west corner) for 20 minutes. Half the time they were just sitting on it using the phone. I came over and asked if they were done and they said no and just sat there. Either get another machine or police the floor.

The Staff here are extremely rude unless the manager is in. The couple of ladies they have on during the week are never to be found when needed. The only reason i come here is because its the cheapest in town. I always pay my fees i have a black card membership i follow all rules and im respectful. I love the equipment and perks of the black card but i dread coming in simply because of a few staff members thats just make the environment terrible. The GM Carol Host is an amazing person i love seeing her when i come in but shes needs some new staff members.

At least a dozen of the treadmills haven’t been working for a month. The roof is leaking in several spots for the same month. Half of the treadmills “working” the belts work against you because they are going soon too. The franchisee is absent and the GM said “we tried to replace the belts but they don’t make them anymore.” Yeah there all old. When you buy a franchise you don’t just have to front the money to buy it , you’re supposed to show capital behind you to maintain it. There is no upkeep or updating here, and that is not the fault of the young men and women who work there. This is on mostly the franchisee but also the general manager for being a part of it . Also I love how the owner responds to the negative callouts and says to talk to the manager or go online….how about you get in to your facility and improve it. Don’t put it on a manager, pay for the improvements. I will be passing this on until I get to someone at Planet Fitness that holds you accountable for their brand.

I've been a member at Planet Fitness for some time now, but my recent experience has been incredibly disappointing. I had an issue with a late fee back in February and despite multiple attempts to resolve it over the phone, I never received a call back as promised. When I finally visited the gym in person, Assistant Manager Darrell(?) brushed off my concerns and essentially told me it was too late to do anything about it.

Not only was the customer service lacking, but the way they handled the situation was completely unfair. No one informed me that I needed to come in person to resolve the issue, and I was left in the dark waiting for a callback that never came. It's frustrating to see such disregard for loyal members. I expected better from Planet Fitness.

I'm deeply dissatisfied with this experience and decided to cancel my membership. If this is the level of service they provide, I'll be taking my business elsewhere

Today as I was about to change the manager shouted into the men's restroom is there anyone in here. And I told her there's naked men. As i was about to change into my workout clothes. What did she do, she stuck her head in to check and proceeded to tell us don't worry I'll close my eyes . Very disresctful. Hire a male to work here instead of having female enter the men's room. Terrible gym. Almost every piece of leg equipment is dysfunctional and dangerous. It's always hot in this gym, even at night time. Absolutely useless gym that really lives up to the planet fitness business model of hoping none of their patrons actually show up to the gym. Honestly, I'm relatively disgusted that this gym has only gotten worse in the 3-4 years I've gone here, it's actually grown to the point where I'm no longer going to work out here at all, I am switching gyms to work at the disgusting run down NIU student recreation center because even though it may not be as clean, it is, surprisingly, way less likely to get me injured even while using the equipment as intended. I can include photos and proof if it is necessary, but I figured I would atleast let everyone know immediately to prevent any potential harm to people, and certainly wouldn't want them wasting their money with a membership here. Make sure to place your membership with the planet fitness in Elgin even if you are getting a black card because they actually use their revenue to purchase new equipment and renovate and it would be a shame for any more money to make it to this shameful excuse of a "planet fitness"

Many broken machines at any given time, most of the staff is unfriendly, not clean, paper towel machine removed from bathroom, no door for a changing room, this was reported several times so what do they do? I joined with my 13 year old daughter. She was nervous as she's never been to a gum before and shes very tall. We've gone a few nights a week for the past few weeks and she loves it. We're both enjoyimg our time there. There usually a couple young men working the front counter when we go and they've been real nice and helpful. The gym is always clean and even when busy it doesnt feel over crowded.

Really glad this isn’t my home gym. Went to the gym about 10:45 am on July 3rd. The 2 people working the desk just stood there looking down at their phones and never greeted anyone walking in. The paper towels were out at most cleaning stations, trash was over flowing and spray bottles were missing. They stool at the front on their phones the entire time was was there. The girl had an attitude when I asked to use the hydro massage.

I never used a gym before and I was really nervous. I am obese, for now, and was recommended by my doctor to try planet fitness as it is one of the most affordable gyms with personal trainer services and classes included. I toured the facility first and was easily sold by the welcoming atmosphere, cleanliness, and variety of equipment and services. Nick was very friendly and informative and help me develop a workout plan that I can maintain given my current health issues. There are showers so I don't have to drive home in my car all gross and sweaty, which is a major plus. I never felt good after exercising but here, it feels good for once!

I can not praise this place enough. It's like Family in there. They will literally stop everything to assist you, help you, train you. I have yet to ever come in without each person greeting me. Getting to know all the staff, their lives as well. As always, there is somethings that are not perfect, but they are always on top of it. Not only that, seeing the community working out together, it warms my heart. This place, especially Dekalb, is JUST FAMILY. I have visited another PF and it isn't even close to being the same thing. Dekalb is so bright and clean. The lockers that are offered without a lock are my favorite too. Right as you walk in. The staff never stop moving. The problem with the “lunk alarm” is that it is completely subjective. Whoever sounds the “lunk alarm” simply has to “feel” it is worth sounding. What one person thinks is egregious another may not and vice versa. Here’s the thing though, the whole point of the “lunk alarm” is to help gym-goers feel more comfortable. However, when a gym-goer makes “too much noise” (which is subjective), that gym-goer is made to feel extremely uncomfortable, even if they weren’t grunting or breathing loudly. If you plan on training as a ninja while working out, by all means, go to this place. If you want to push yourself to be better than you are, then go LITERALLY ANYWHERE else.

I’ll start with the positives: I love all that you get here for the price! The space is endless and they have so many equipment options
Negatives: I spoke to employees to see what the issue was. The vacuum has been broken for a long time and no one replaced it. The manager seems to be there on the weekdays and isn’t strict. The owner is living in Chicago and never stops in to oversee the location. The employees said someone needs to go to corporate and say something in order to get them a new vacuum. It is so unbelievable unclean here that I took it upon myself to grab the broom from the lobby to sweep out the entire area around the weights. The problem here is they’ve got employees standing in the front on their phones as well as the chairs surrounding the spa entrance when really they should be out on the floor detailing the machines, sweeping and mopping. I’m in management myself and if my business looked like this I would be embarrassed. I told employees that I don’t wear a mask here because there’s no point when the location is that dirty. It’s sad because it’s a brand new gym already going down hill quickly.

Amazing night staff. Very cost efficient for everyone financial needs. Most equipment still has that new factor and not much wear and tear (I.e machine padding not cracking, some of the ropes for pull down machine are becoming fray, dumbbells has no structural damage to them) One thing I have had as a problem was a shortage on paper towels a few times, I couldn’t wipe a machine down so was instructed t spray down machine. Personally i don’t like sitting in a machine bar soak and wet with the cleaning solution. Been to a few Planet Fitnesses , the DeKalb location is very spacious and organized. Highly enjoyable work out experience.

Edit: Earlier I complained about the there being a lot of tv screens that were infomercials. I was in the gym today and I am happy to say that it has been remedied!! So long, vacuum infomercial! This gym is now 5/5, awesome!!!!

The gym is great. However, they are consistently playing two different TVs which comprise of a quarter of the screens in the gym on constant infomercial loops. I swear if I have to see the water softening commercial one more time, or the states quarters commercial I I might snap. Please change the channels to something substantive: HGTV, any other sports channel, the home or channel, BET, comedy Central,... I really don't care what else, just something! And please don't say that you don't have any control, because I've been to other Planet Fitness gyms and they do have control their TVs.
