The gym is very nice but they use to clean the female restroom room at 7am when everyone is going get a shower to go to work what makes no sense to me at all.
It was very uncomfortable to see a guy inside of the restroom while I was leaving a shower.

I have never had such an unpleasant encounter with a gym. The manager was rude and unwilling to work with a customer. This gym charges students for amenities they are unable to use. Downgrading membership takes away all the other benefits they are able to use. If you have a student under 18 rethink this gym. I am very disappointed with this gym. The staff is absolutely rude and unprofessional. Today they didn’t even let me work out properly — they kept following me around, constantly watching me, and making unnecessary comments. Instead of creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, they made me feel pressured and extremely uncomfortable. I had a terrible experience and would not recommend this gym to anyone who wants to work out in a normal, friendly environment.

I worked out here for around 4 months before cancelling my membership and going elsewhere. Overall, it's not a bad place, but it could use some love. What ultimately drove me away was the cleanliness of the equipment and the men's locker room. The entire place has a sort of nasty smell, but it was particularly bad and almost unbearable in the locker room. When there is a bad smell that can only mean one thing, it's not clean. I think this PF location could really use a two day closing where it's deep cleaned. They also seem to struggle to keep the place cool. On multiple occasions it was noticeably hot, and that's never fun.

My husband has had a Black Card membership at the Palatine gym for a long time, and I’ve been registered as his guest. For nearly a year, we visited this location with great pleasure. After our workouts, I would always ask the front desk staff for three coins to use the massage chairs — it was a relaxing and enjoyable part of our routine.

But today’s visit left us shocked. When I went to ask for the coins as usual, two new young employees — whom I had never seen before — rudely denied my request without any explanation. When I asked why, they told me new restrictions were introduced a month ago. Yet just two days ago, I used the chairs without any issue. One of them told me I wasn’t allowed to use it and refused, even though all the chairs were completely empty.

It’s not about the money — I could easily get my own membership. But why did no one inform us about this change? Why does each staff member seem to follow their own rules, and why is rudeness tolerated?

My husband and I canceled our membership today. When I asked a girl at the front desk how long we could still use the gym, since we had already paid for the month, she snapped at me with a cold “I’M CHECKING.”

We used to feel at home here. We truly enjoyed coming. But today — it was nothing but disappointment. It’s heartbreaking to lose a place we loved because of disrespect and poor treatment by the staff.

Not a fan of the weekend hours, I like to do my workout near the end of the day after getting errands done or working. I tend to go around 6-7pm and my workouts are 1-2 hours long. On the weekends this isn’t possible, since they close at 7. I’m only in town for the weekends anyways so it’s almost impossible for me to workout here anymore. 3 stars because I still like planet fitness and have been going here for years

Olivia PF Palatine is an amazing manager and her staff is outstanding.(I’m sorry I don’t have their names) They are super helpful, friendly and made my husband and I feel very welcome and comfortable when we joined. We’ve belonged to many gyms and really enjoy the experience and atmosphere at PF. The staff is constantly cleaning and making sure spray bottle and paper towels are replenished. We like the separate rooms for a30 min quick workout and a training room filled with great ab/lower body equipment. I especially love the hack squat machine. It’s nice there are 3 smith racks and multiples of everything. They do have a free weights area as well. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly and fun environment. Michele and John

I go to this gym as part of my health insurance plan. Their agreement with PF is that we can go to any location, but we have to get a key fob for each one (whether it's a PF rule or insurance, that's how it was explained). I've been to the Palatine location once before this And they couldn't provide the fob for me. They told me I can check in with my phone number when I go in each time. We emailed corporate and then got a phone call from the manager the next day saying to come in for the key fobs, which they did have a few when they told us they didn't.

I paused because I had surgery. However, I've now returned & came to Palatine for the 2nd time ever today & was told again, no key fob and I have to check in by phone #. This is so inconvenient and annoying to have to do this each time.

So I ended up trying the key fob from the Barrington location and it worked. It would be nice if they understood how the program worked so it would be convenient for The patrons.

Even signing us up for the first time was a hassle. The minute they heard it was through insurance, at both locations, it's like they didn't want to help me. I don't know if it's because they make commission or there's pressure, but it doesn't mean you don't help the customer out.

Otherwise, everything else about the place is nice of course. Clean, get your workout on. I just think Everyone needs to know how the programs work through insurance.

I'm still going to go of course, but the rating is strictly regarding customer service, really. I feel like it's hard to find good service sometimes.

It's a great facility. The locker rooms are clean and well kept. The staff doesn't bother you. Just a great place to work out and be in your "own world" while you do so. My only minor complaint would be the water pressure in the showers. I understand that at a health club, ownership wants to save money wherever possible. And with 8 or more shower stalls (4 in the mens for certain and probably 4 in the womens) wasting water could get costly. BUT there is a point where keeping the pressure too low actually begins to work against this cost saving theory. For example, it takes me several minutes to rinse the soap off my body and shampoo out of my hair because the pressure is so low. I say to myself "come one" as the low pressure streaming from the showerhead struggles to do as mentioned. It's a fine line here I'm sure. My suggestion: turning up the pressure (just a little bit more) would likely reduce the average time a member spends in the showers due to a more productive rinse....thus $aving more money than keeping them at the VERY low levels they currently are set at.

As someone who avoided fitness centers until I was in my mid-60s, I was pleasantly surprised that the Palatine Planet Fitness was nothing like the negative stereotype I had held all those years. There are no rude jocks or bullies, the equipment is well kept, and the staff is friendly and always ready to help. My experience with other members has been good as well. Exercising is essential to staying healthy, so I'm glad Planet Fitness gives me an opportunity to do that in a pleasant atmosphere.

I would give zero stars if I could. I was here today 4/6/24 and I am extremely upset with my experience there. First I came in and just wanted to ask a couple questions given that it was my first time coming here. There was no one at the front desk to assist me. The gym floor was a mess with empty spray bottles and paper all over. After my workout I wanted to use the black card spa and had to wait for a good while because the girl working there was too busy talking to her friends. Eventually I was finally assisted by a different employee. Not sure who manages the place but it seems like no one is. Very disappointed as I was sold to get this membership by a very kind employee during the morning earlier this week. Just very disappointed.

Palatine Planet is my home gym and my favorite.
I'd like to say it's because most employees know me by name but that's not true. Lol We all want to be noticed once in awhile.
The honest truth is this gym is spotless from the bathroom floor to the back where the Ab machines are.
This gym blows anyone away and I have belonged to Lifetime, Anytime, Crunch, Ymca, Golds, L A. Fit., X Sport and park districts.
I'm grading everyone on cleanliness, how employees interact with us, price, 24 hour availability, safety, Pal. police are right there always close by. Even simple folks like me are nice, responsible on wiping machines down and polite. The fee you pay covers you using the hydromessage which is just remarkable for your back. So, it's like working out for free for us Black card members.
Something nobody mentions is anyplace in the gym you're on a cardio machine you can see the TVs perfectly.
Thank you to the management and the hard working employees for making people feel comfortable. You folks are the foundation behind P.F.

Manager extremely lacks social awareness. Just a couple of weeks ago he started dusting the tv’s up on a ladder during a moment that I’d say was pretty busy. Literal clumps and balls of dust and other debris were falling down onto us that were working out on the machines down below. I actually witnessed a huge clump fall on a young girl’s head who was using one of the leg machines. I personally noticed right away and I know he noticed as well and continued doing it completely interrupting multiple people’s workouts. I’ve seen him yell at his employees too which probably explains the huge turnaround rate considering that it feels like every two weeks there’s a new employee that has replaced another.

I have the Black Card membership and go to a few of the PF clubs in the area. Was just at the Palatine one - the manager Dan is very friendly and helpful! I've been a member of this gym for a while now and must admit that it has a clean and well-maintained facility with friendly employees. However, there's one issue that has been bothering me, which is their arbitrary rule enforcement.

The gym claims to be a "judgement-free zone," but this doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to talking on the phone. Members are allowed to talk to themselves or engage in conversations with others, yet phone conversations prohibited. I was escorted to a designated area to complete my call, which felt intrusive and unnecessary, especially since no one had complained. Again, the staff member who requested this was nice and I have nothing to say negative about her. .

According to the staff, it's a rule they must enforce, but it seems pointless and contradictory to the gym's philosophy. It's annoying to feel judged in a place that's supposed to be free of judgment. If they truly want to create a judgment-free environment, they should reconsider this rule or at least apply it consistently. This rule is not applied all the time and people are regularly on the phone while doing cardio and working out... Let us work & LEAVE US ALONE!

The price is very affordable. There is a lot of gym eqipment, from free weights, weight machines, and aerobic equipment. I like that there are mostly two of each weight machine, so there is no wait to use one. The facility is extremely well maintained and is spotless. The manager there is fantastic. I see him working so hard supervising the staff. He is also busy keeping the place in top shape. This is our second year as members. Before this new manager came, the facility was dirty. The machines were dirty and needed new pads. There were never any towels in the cleaning stations. But this guy really got it in top shape. I have now recommended it to friends and family.

Best gym in the area. I switched from Xsport to Planet Fitness months ago, and I'm kicking myself for not switching sooner.. I workout early to avoid the crowds and glad to see a gym honoring their 24hr rules. Place is very clean, equipment is in good working order, and staff are always smiling and polite who are always walking around checking out machines and keeping the place looking good. Plenty of parking, even if you workout during mid day on a sat too. They do ask that you clean off the machines with disinfectant from multiple stations around the rooms....which is nice. Can't tell you how disgusting xsport was with machines that weren't cleaned in weeks. Hand sanitizer is placed at the door for your convenience as well. Kudos Planet Fitness!

Update - I was here again today. They asked to see my Vax card. The patrons were at 100% compliance for masking. People were cleaning their equipment. Nice job PF staff and thank you to all the people patronizing this place.

It's clean and I was left alone to do my thing. The other people there ranged from (I'm only guessing at ages) 85 doing a general workout, middle age seemingly trying to lose weight, to 3 college age guys maintaining tone. Nobody gave anyone else a judgmental glance. Pretty even mix of male/female. Everyone had masks on, cleaning supplies were readily available and everyone seemed to use them. I felt very comfortable there.

I canceled my membership in person. They continued billing me for 2 months until I noticed. I called them up to ask for a refund and the manager, Donovan, refused to assist. Said there was no proof that I ever canceled. I asked for a corporate phone #. He could not provide one. Please avoid.
