The Planet Fitness on Schaumburg Road and Barrington Road is run very well. The staff is very friendly, and knowledgeable, and helpful. The equipment is new and clean, and if the equipment does break down, they are quick to repair it. The locker rooms are well-maintained and clean. I would recommend this facility and this Planet Fitness in particular to everybody I know.

It’s a unprofessional for a manager to be enforcing rules about small bags when you can’t even tell the manager works there he’s not wearing anything regarding pf he had on over ear headphones and sweats and a hoodie u would have no idea he even worked there also the approach that was taken to tell the member about said small bag was very rude

I’ve been a regular here for quite some time now. This location is 24 hours, and I believe it’s reasonable priced. The staff are all friendly and helpful, and they’re always keeping the place clean. When machines are down, they get them fixed pretty soon. I lost my car keys once here and they helped me find them as well. Thank you guys for being a part of my gym experience!

I’ve always been an advocate for planet fitness. Easy entry for new comers, worth the cost and usually clean with polite staff. This location has some questionable equipment. No extra accessories to build the equipment for different grips. Rusted dumb bells that feel like sand paper. Most of the staff is super polite. After 3 years I was kicked out today for having my closed back crocs on. Christine came up to me mid set and said “you have the wrong shoes on you can’t work out.” I went and changed my shoes but the approach and unwillingness to converse was pretty wild. Could use a little clean up here, your standards are much lower than the others around this location.

I had a very bad experience with Manager David at Planet Fitness. When I forgot my membership card/guest pass, instead of helping me quickly like other gyms usually do, he refused to allow me in and made me wait unnecessarily until his staff came. His attitude was rude and unprofessional, and he made me feel embarrassed in front of others.

A manager should be supportive and respectful to members, not treat them like they are doing something wrong over a simple mistake. This kind of behavior creates a very negative environment. I expected better customer service and respect as a paying member.

I am very disappointed with the way Manager David treats members. Recently, he insulted me by shouting at me in front of everyone at the gym. This behavior was completely unprofessional and embarrassing. A manager should treat people with respect and handle issues in a private, professional manner, not by raising his voice and humiliating members publicly.

I joined this gym to improve my health and fitness, but instead I was made to feel uncomfortable and disrespected. Management should take responsibility for creating a welcoming environment, and unfortunately David failed to do that.

Hands down the worst planet fitness I've ever been to. Today I was told I cannot wear Crocs into this location, though after being a member many years I've never had an issue, I was told I'd have to leave! Definitely the worst I've been treated at a planet fitness based on the history in the area I think I was singled out because of my ethnicity. I was able to convince the employee but his overall tone was a bit belittling. If you like Crocs don't come here!!! Plenty of better locations for a workout 💪🏿

If you're looking for a gym where you can shower after you’re done, this is NOT the place for you. The hot water is hit or miss. So much so that people are vandalizing the bathroom to get a point across. I don't condone it, but I understand it. I have never seen the showers cleaned. I'm sure they do at some point during the week, but when the same fuzz is in the same place for days? The two star is because it's 24/7.

This planet fitness ain’t too bad, but there is a little bit of trash that somebody should sweep that up and thrown away. But I found this “BANANA PEEL” on the counter where you can blow dry your hair or flex yourself at the mirror. Like who in the world would leave some disgusting food on the counter?? Price is good 24hours is really nice but their meter is trash shows 1 bar you come in and all the equipment is being used 2 bars forget about going to the gym and even tho the meter has 10 bars it never passes 2 no matter how packed it is and the equipment options they aren't bad but they are not good either so if u want to join you better know-how to do your workouts in different ways oh and they don't have anything for lower chest so figure that out

David was very unprofessional. I was kicked out for hitting a vape wich I could understand. I was never given any prior warnings nor did I hit the vape near anyone else. However he said I just needed to leave for the day cool, I come in at a different time and was never told my membership would be revoked nor that I couldn’t go back to that specific gym for some time.

Ive had other gym club memberships in the past before coming to Planet and can honestly say that this is my favorite gym yet! Your overnight employee Vince is honestly the only reason why I come to this specific gym location. Vince is an amazing employee who not only does his job but also makes friendships with the gym members. Aside from making us feel welcomed, he does an amazing job at keeping the gym clean and tidy. This location is lucky to have someone like Vince and I can guarantee other members at this location would agree with me!

This place is terrible and the people that run it I haven’t even been to the gym and they’ve already tried to charge me twice for yearly fees and my one month annual fee when I just sand up in Januaryand they won’t cancel my account even though they said they did and I noticed that they are still trying to take money from my account and when I called up there and asked them why they said because they didn’t like the way that I talked to one of their managers so therefore instead of doing it because I asked them to they want me to go in so they can try to have me arrested like I’m stupid Don’t bother with this gym. Honestly, Kyle is the exact reason I am giving this place a 5 star review. He made my frustration go to ease when he helped me in ways nobody else did. I was having issues with planet fitness and my membership. All I know is I was very stressed out until Kyle was professional and guided me on how to fix the issue. All the other people I asked just said they didn’t know what to do, however, Kyle made sure to not leave the customer disappointed and he succeeded, thank you Kyle.

I transferred from xsport after LA fitness bought them out. Xsport was always dirty, out of tp, paper towels, and cleaning solution so we couldn't wipe down the machines, or anything else for that matter. And it even smelled dirty. And when LA fitness bought them out, nothing changed significantly. And this has been across 5 of their locations. I've been to planet fitness Schaumburg for 2 and a half weeks now and I see two old timers actively working, stocking the towels and tp, cleaning EVERYTHING, and the cleaning solution is NEVER EMPTY. I haven't been there during the day, but I assume they have a role to play as well with keeping these stocked. But I love PHYSICALLY SEEING the staff cleaning up, stocking and putting things back. This single planet fitness location is already 1000% cleaner than AT LEAST 5 xsport/ la fitness locations. I honestly couldn't care less to find out how much filthier an la fitness could get. Bravo to pf for keeping your locations clean and well stocked. I feel so much better about switching for this reason alone. I can smell the difference how clean it is. It's more affordable, I was initially worried about not getting the same workouts in from them not having all the machines, but they definitely have enough for me to adjust and work around so I can still get my same workouts in. The staff is very friendly, respectful, and inviting. They always welcome me in and wish me a good workout. I was ignorant to something and they let me know in a respectful, friendly, and professional manner. This location is awesome. And I'm proud to call it my home location.

Had to change my review because the gym has gone downhill. It doesn't open on time. Yesterday there were many cars outside waiting for the gym to open. I finally left at 5:40am. Instead of taking responsibility, the owner just says to talk to the manager. The owner needs to be the one talking to the manager about hiring staff that will arrive on time. People workout at 5am because they have places to be, not to sit in the PF parking lot.

Planet Fitness is an affordable option if all you really need is the equipment and a place to sweat. It's open 24 hours which is fantastic and you can sign up at any minute of the day or night!
It's kind of a long story but let's just say I spontaneously needed a gym membership in the middle of the night. It was going on midnight and I needed to visit a gym and the first options to come to mind, XSport Fitness and Lifetime Fitness, were not an option.
Anyways I'm not exactly a newbie to a gym, you could say that I've taste tested a few different, and Planet Fitness is inexpensive considering the amount of equipment and space. I haven't gotten the chance to visit during a popular busy time but as far as I can tell the machines and equipment are generally readily available. With two or three rows of cardio equipment (mainly treadmills), several more rows of weight machines, and plenty of free weight and dumbbell options in the main section. Running along the back perimeter is a fairly large sub room with equipment focused on core and a large open space for stretching or aerobic workouts. Next to that is another sub room with a big machine that I totally forgot what the gym guide said it was for, with the last sub room for circuit training exercises.
That's a lot of space and a lot of options to choose, from an otherwise almost vacant lobby.
There are keyless lockers if you happen to walk in spontaneously and not have your lock with you, and worst case the front desk does sell that kind of equipment. There are locker rooms, of course, with benches and spacious lockers. There are lockers labeled for handicapped however I'm not sure what the difference is other than another small shelf to put your shoes under. There's bathrooms of course and showers. I like to wash my hands a lot and a bad sink with fake generic soap really ruins my vibe, which is not something Planet Fitness has. Their sinks run with strong water pressure and temperature accuracy (I can't stand hot water, lukewarm is perfect. So being able to adjust a sink without fearing it will be steaming hot is wonderful). I would like some paper towels or reusable towels around the gym, but the bathroom does have a very efficient air blowing hand dryer.
The showers, there are only four, but for my experience so far it's fine. The water temperature comes and goes, same with the water pressure, and though a shower head that you can pick up and manipulate is convenient.. what is not convenient is a shower head that will not stay hung on its hook. Kind of a buzz kill considering you want to relax and feel good after stressing your body, not fearing that taking a shower is going to be iffy and having to tense yourself and brave a shower real quick.
It's clean at least, the locker rooms the bathrooms and the showers. No complaint on cleanliness throughout the building. I guess maybe one tiny complaint. The bottles of sanitizer that they have hung around the building... You spray it into a brown paper towel and I can soak that brown paper towel but by the time I give the weight machine a few wipes it's already evaporating. So much for trying to sanitize without interrupting your workout. When I worked at export Fitness I worked as a porter meaning that I did the laundry and sanitized the machines (among other things of course) so to me I feel like the business should be taken care of most of the sanitizing.
On the positive when I did walk in the first time, I asked the front desk attendant for a tour which he was perfectly okay with. He showed me around the black card spa (a location for the higher tier memberships, only by $10 a month), he showed me the keyless lockers, all of the equipment and explained all of the sub rooms, and detoured through the locker room of course. A locker room is more important than people think. He explains to me the benefits between the black card membership and the basic membership and without pushing too hard to get me the sign up for the higher tier he helped me sign up through the app and an email.

Holy cow what a terrible experience. I live in Iowa so I normally go to the planet fitness in cedar Rapids and just assumed that was the standard experience. No, this place is so much worse. There are signs about etiquette eveywhere. Feels like a dictatorship. Rules enforced I had never even heard of. And despite all the rules, there are even more jerks here. Plus despite being an insane amount of cardio equipment, this location has no more weights than my smaller home location in Iowa. I will never come back to this planet fitness and am quite greatful my home location is decent compared to this hole in the wall.

Extremely Frustrating Experience with Planet Fitness

I’m beyond frustrated with Planet Fitness. Signing up was easy, but when it comes to canceling your membership, it’s like going through nine circles of hell. There’s absolutely no useful information about your membership in the app—no ID number, no clear details about your account.

When you try to call customer service, they claim you can’t cancel over the phone and have to do it in person or official letter. That’s ridiculous, especially if you don’t even live in the same state as a gym. There’s zero assistance, and they offer no solutions or helpful information.

It’s clear that once they have your money, they don’t care about making the process easy for you. I’ve never encountered a company so difficult to deal with. I would not recommend Planet Fitness to anyone based on this experience.

This gym was the hottest I’ve worked out in and I have memberships to 3 chain gyms. I only came here because other gyms were not open at the time of night I went. I ended up having to leave early because it felt so hot while I tried to run.

Gyms should be kept at a comfortable temperature. If someone wants to sweat off extra water weight they can layer up. The gym shouldn’t feel like a sauna as soon as you walk in. I think this gym is trying to cater to lifters who want to sweat or something. Which is odd since it’s planet fitness…

was excited to try a new location but when i had to badly use the bathroom there was signs blocking the bathroom saying there was a male attendant inside, it’s 2am and there’s 2 male employees at the front desk talking, after about 10 minutes I ask them if they’ll be available soon and one of them responds “i haven’t even gone in yet” and that I could go in but I needed to “hurry up” after that I went to the massage area and the other employee was taking a nap at one of the massage chairs. I really wanted to like this location. I usually go to Elgin but it's always full of kids during the summer and doesn't have enough space for working out on a mat. I thought I could switch to a different location, and the one Barrington checked all my marks. After a few visits I noticed that the equipment could use an upgrade, some parts are falling off or are missing, cleaning supplies are attached to the stand, which is just wired. The one thing that made me change my decision of not coming back is that they will not allow jump rope, no signs anywhere that will mention that!! How is jump rope any different from rope exercises, (someone can trip over), or swing a kettlebell (someone can drop it).

$20 a month sounds like a good deal right? Guess again. When you cancel is where they get you. I canceled 6 months ago. I do hundreds of transactions with my card. When I finally did notice I was still being charged, I went to the store. First they asked for my cancellation E-mail. ( Who the holds onto something like that for so long) long story short, they just flat out said they don't give refunds. They didn't even try to help me. Instead, doing everything they could not to issue me a refund. They even had it in their computer system proving I haven't checked in for 6 months. Now I'm out over $100. I've been at xsport fitness, and lifetime fitness for years. Compared to these gym's planet fitness is absolutely terrible. Go there at your own risk. Watch your account like a hawk when you cancel.

The 1st time I came in, it took a minute for the staff to figure out how to sign me up through my insurance program, but they took care of me in the end. Got my fob card and got my workout on.

The atmosphere is nice and the gym is big with plenty of space. Clean. The staff is very nice. Definitely a better experience compared to the Palatine location. It was difficult to set us up at both locations, but the one in Schaumburg took care of us and gave us our fobs.

I just had an experience at LA Fitness in Hanover Park, IL that turned me off to them and any other LA Fitness adjacent gym ever again. I’ll keep my thought on them brief, but if you ever consider setting up a tour, signing up for a membership, or even walking on their property, DON’T do it. Truly atrocious customer service. I was looking for another gym close to me because my hours have recently changed so I now have to lift around 8 or 9 at night and it’s a little busy during that time in the weights section. It’s not super busy, but enough that I would need to find another gym close so I could weight train and not have to fight people for equipment. Just a personal preference of mine and a little weird admittedly. Besides being a touch busy at times, Planet Fitness has always been an amazing gym to go to. The staff is wonderful and nice, they always have at least more than one person available to show potential customers a tour (I’ve not once seen anybody wait too long for a tour or to get in a tanning bed or relaxation chairs), and they have everything I need and nothing I don’t. I would never use a pool or sauna like some gyms have and would charge more for use of these types of amenities or pay a higher price membership. The membership plans at Planet Fitness have always been inexpensive. Never once considered the prices to be too overwhelming like Lifetime memberships are ($80 a month for a lot of amenities I would never use. Vince the nighttime employee is just great. So welcoming and friendly. It’s always a pleasure talking with him for a bit. Great person. Rest of the staff is fabulous as well. So basically I wanted to write a good review of a gym that absolutely deserves it after I received such horrible customer service at LA Fitness. I highly recommend getting a membership at the West Schaumburg, IL Planet Fitness. You will not be disappointed at all!!

Very clean facility. A lot of different machines to hit different body parts. No waiting for a special machine to come available. Staff is excellent, very friendly and helpful. I Love that this gym is 24/7, works great with my work schedule. I will definitely be working out here more!

Nice new location👍 I have been to many of the Planet Fitness locations in the area as well as out of state while traveling. This facility is spacious and laid out well (reminded me of one in Vegas I went to) Has pretty much all you need to get the job done with an abundance of cardio equipment, 4 smith machines, nice sized dumbbell area, and pretty much all the standard machines👍 Times I've gone hasn't been busy and a plus is that its 24 hours. Staff is cool and gym is kept clean. Oh and its one of the only Planets that have a soap dispenser in the showers😁 small detail I noticed. Recommend to anyone in the area.

The gym is clean and the staff friendly. The shower facilities are horrible! Very little to no hot water. I've been a member for almost a year and this is a consistent problem.

There are some real pros and cons at this place.

Pros:
1. Clean ~ish - no one really wipes down the machines and I've never seen the staff doing it.
2. Staffed all hours of the day.

Cons:
1. Staff is rude if you don't listen to their made up rules. More at the bottom about this.
2. During peak times it's hard to use weight lifting items & machines because it's full of people.

There is a sign that says "No Large Gym Bags on Floor". That's fine, I wear a weighted vest while doing cardio for 45 mins, I take it off after 15 to 20 mins to continue with cardio, with no stopping my cardio. They said I cannot do that, even though there are no signs any where in the gym, nor any language in the contract about this. They are polite until you say "no", I discussed the sign, then their rude & arrogant to get their way. They say its a tripping hazard, the vest if bright colored and I keep the vest out of the way and clear of the walk-way. Besides this brief time I'm constantly wearing the vest.

For me, I'm consider going to a competitor but if you don't mind rude people to tell you made up rules, this might be a good fit.

I really like my workouts at PF. Staff is friendly and it is always clean.
Just have to go later at night when the annoying people that just sit on the machine and play with their phones or just sit there staring off into space aren’t there. Please people be mindful of others that would like to use the machine!

It's exactly what you would expect of it. 24 hours is a good thing and guest if you have a black card can come at any time. Decent price for maintenance workouts. Not for heavy lifter for sure, but does the job if you're super brand new to the gym or are not planning to go heavy lifting. They keep it clean from what I've seen. Staff does their job as well and that's appreciated. Recommended for sure!
