I usually come to this Planet Fitness with no issues, but for the past couple months there has been black plastic wrap around the entire gym, blocking off certain equipment and making the gym feel more compact, and providing less space for a comfortable workout. There has been no information or timeline for when it will be finished, and it appears that no one has been working on any of the walls since the tarps have gone up. It’s getting quite frustrating given I can’t find space to do my workouts and the fact that everything is pushed closer together so you feel like you’re working out on top of everyone. I’m hoping it will be completed soon, given the fact last time there was construction they closed for two days and got it done.

Longtime member since opening of club and it still remains most convenient while suffering through many challenges. Have seen tremendous turnover with employees that at times seemed to be improving but again slips into a sub satisfactory product. Recently coming into two months the whole back wall is covered with Glad Bag type material and has hindered the work out space while there has been no activity for weeks to complete project. Rumor has it, since none of the representatives at the counter will give you any answers to timeline of completion, or info on what's taken place, that the drywall behind the mirrors is suffering from water damage? Mold? Who knows? This after a complete reorganization of the machine, layout, that removed always used upright bikes and replaced with complicated, unused, stationary bikes and a layout that puts everything sideways so being able to look at the tv network feeds unusable. Down to two of the former always used bikes. After belonging to other health clubs in the past my "red alert sensor" tells me that once again this club is slipping and if past situations, that I have experienced with other clubs, tell me that the future may not end up very good with this location which will be too bad because price point, location, offerings were pretty good initially

A few weeks ago the Yorkville, IL location posted a notice that they would be closed for a day to install all new cardio equipment. Well they did, but they did not replace one for one. They removed more than 50% of the cardio machines. There are now maybe 7 elliptical machines, and they're so close together you can barely get between them. They are also frequently all in use. I was told that it was a corporate decision to reduce the cardio machines in favor of spreading out the strength training machines. Maybe there were machines unused before, but at least I was always able to use whichever one I chose without having someone so close that it was unhygienic.

Pros: The gym is nice and spacious. It’s the nicest PF in my area. I really like how the gym is set up. It has plenty of room for everyone to exercise without everyone being on top of each other. It has a lot of potential to be a solid gym in our area.

Cons: For the 5th time in the last couple months, there is no hot water in the showers. It’s just ice cold. I’ll run it for like 5 mins and it remains cold. Unfortunately, The gym is rarely clean when I get there early in the morning. I hardly ever see anyone cleaning. The men’s bathroom is disgusting.

I’ll be heading to another PF. It’s not as nice but at least they do the basics right.

Absolutely horrible customer service. This location has been charging me twice every month for the past several months, I've spoken with a manager and they told me that I have to go to my bank to fix it. The bank can take the charge off every month but ultimately it's up to Planet Fitness to fix the double charge in the system. The manager refused to believe me and refuse to look at my bank statement showing 9 months of double charges from Planet Fitness. It is not my bank's responsibility to go into my Planet Fitness account and fix the mistake that is planet fitnesses fault. And I refuse to have to call my bank once a month to take off the extra charge because Planet Fitness won't take care of their paying customers so I canceled my membership.

The manager lady is very confrontational with members and is very unwelcoming. Management also does not seem to care about the gym being open on time on Saturdays or Sundays. Other than that the gym is kept very clean and is a convenient drive from my home which is why I haven’t canceled. The women’s bathroom also has a strong odor in it with an out of service toilet that hasn’t been fixed in a week despite staff knowing about the problem. Place could use an overhaul.

I have never had a problem with the gym or the staff And typically enjoy my time here, but the temperatures in your black card members spa area are unacceptable. They have been broken for well over a week (Maybe even two at this point ) and are reading in the mid 40s. Staff are aware of the issue, but management has to be the one to do something and clearly management hasn’t bothered to do anything. According to staff, management does not come into the location, so there is no one to speak with on scene to voice these concerns and complaints, so I am posting here in the hopes someone will see it and do something about it.

This is a nice place to work out. I find most of the times I go, it is rarely what I would call crowded. There is a good selection of machines and free weights as well. If I had a criticism it would be that during the school year, after school, the gym fills up with a lot of young kids that get dropped off and like to sit on machines and not move which at times can be frustrating. The staff is friendly but they will not enforce any of the rules regarding people not cleaning the machines after using them or annoying people that are having loud phone conversations in prohibited areas despite signage. Broken machines can at times sit for a few weeks without being repaired. All this being said, it is still a good place to work out and is in a good safe location and at a more than fair price.

Been a member for about 3 years now. A solid place to work out. Close to home and hours are great (except there have been numerous times when they haven’t opened on time on the weekends).

My one big complaint is the heat. It’s winter now but my god the heat is turned up way too much. Crazy hot. Many have complained at the desk and we’re told it’s out of their(the employee’s control). We need to post complaints here (google review) so I hope this works.

I sweat a lot as is but even for “normal “ folks, it’s way too high. The front desk said it was 75 degrees. That’s crazy. 68 - 70 is what you should be shooting for. If folks are too cold/cool then a little more movement would be good for them. After all it is a fitness/workout location, not just social club.

I’d be happy to discuss with anyone who thinks working out inside at 75 degrees is a good idea.

This is a great PF location. Clean, friendly desk staff. However, today the temperature in the gym was way too warm for me to be able to work out. Typically it’s cool, but today it was hot! It’s cold outside and the entryway was cool, but once you step into the gym itself, it was too warm . The minute you start exercising, it’s unbearably hot. There was a couple exercising near me and they thought they were going to pass out so they cut their workout time. Please do something about the temp!

The club is very conveniente as it’s the only one in the region, but they have a recurring issue which they are not capable to solve: the club is constantly CLOSED, especially on weekends because of staff schedule. At least once/twice a month you’ll waste your time waking up early to work out as doors will be closed with upset people outside. I’ve already talked to the responsible which always says they are taking actions but nothing really happened. They should return members money when that happens, I believe it would be the only way for them to act, it seems they simply don’t care at all.
I just keep my family membership because there is no other options in the region but I am considering to drive 10min more to a much better and professional gym in Oswego.

Here we are again! It’s December 8th, 2024 at 9:05 in the morning and no one showed up to open the gym. This has happened several times at this location. I will admit, things started to improve, but now it’s right back to the way it was before, poorly run. Broken machines not fixed for months, one soap dispenser in the men’s restroom for three sinks, or maybe I should say two, one hasn’t worked in a month. I don’t know who owns this location, but maybe get your act together and take ownership of your business, instead of just collecting people’s money! This is ridiculous!!!

Place has really gone down hill. This is the 4th weekend now they are not open when the door says they should be. Some of the weekend staff seem to be pretty flaky and just not show up many times. Also many machines have been broken now for over a month. Some of the other planet fitness locations in the area have received brand new machines and are way better. I thought Planet Fitness is a place that is non judgemental. Well let me tell me , I left the gym one day and could hear one staff member including Mason making fun of a women ahead of me leaving. I also wanted to add that Mason is not really a friendly person. I joined a class just to be canceled then I rebooked it, only to find out I felt like I was a bothering him. I figured since he is a personal trainer , that he connects well with people. The Second class He wouldn't even talk to me! Super disappointed. Please find people that want to run this location properly. I'm looking for a new Gym . The things is I really like the location and gym itself. It's just the staff is not friendly. Love coming to this planet fitness it’s so conveniently close to home since I come here twice a day 6 days a week. The new staff is very nice and keep it clean. BUT the fact that machines are always broken and takes them weeks before they repair them is really making me consider switching gyms. My favorite cable machine has been broken for a month and I asked the staff and they have no clue when it will get fixed. The fact that they have one maintenance guy to fix these is ridiculous. I’ve talked to other members and I know I am not the only one that is frustrated with the time it takes them to fix machines.

I just joined this gym and am beginning to regret it. This is the 2nd time I’ve come in around 830am on a Saturday (2.5 hrs after the time it says they open right on the door) and the gym is totally locked and empty with no one answering the phone. I like this gym but it has gone down hill in the past year due to lack of cleaning. Especially the women's locker room and bathroom stalls - they are NOT getting cleaned. Switched to this pf about a month ago to help someone with their routine. I don’t believe the equipment is maintained very well compared to other locations. Machines I like to use have been out of order (broken cable rolled up) for the month I’ve been coming. Cracked dried out leather everywhere. I never noticed rust on the seat level selectors at Montgomery either. Doesn’t this gym or the pf corporate do any maintenance here? Montgomery equipment is far better maintained. At the very least invest in repairing your equipment in a timely manner.

UPDATE:
On June 10, 2022, I unfortunately experienced an aggressive PF Yorkville staff member who was tactless in his communication precisely at closing time. The clock had just turned 9 pm, & he was making unnecessary threats. Aside from this confrontation, he had been horsepaying around with other staff members for more than an hour prior to that time. He shook it off by stating "this is a gym job" and wouldn't give me his name. I took a couple photos and video so I could identify him.

Today's experience was quite different than prior experiences with PF Yorkville staff. It's quite unfortunate how one negative experience can negate so many positive experiences. I strongly suggest this employee is counseled, at a minimum, to prevent such customer concerns in the future.

I had actually just requested to shift my home gym from Montgomery to Yorkville but now question whether to finalize the shift given the fact that this person is apparently in a manager position (i.e. a black shirt, not a purple shirt; I think a black shift constitutes a manager but am not certain). He's not someone who I feel ownership wants representing their interests.

PRIOR REVIEW:
I've worked out at about 15 Planet Fitness locations in the past 5 years. The Yorkville, IL facility is among the higher-quality facilities of the ~15.

STAFF. I can best compare the Yorkville facility to the PF in Montgomery, IL. The staff quality and maintenance/cleanliness is consistently superior at the Yorkville PF. Staff is also far more responsive to guest suggestions and requests.

CLEANLINESS: The paper towels tend to be empty and trash is full far more often at the Montgomery PF than the Yorkville PF.

HOURS: While the Yorkville facility was initially 24/7 and Montgomery has been "24/5" for as long as I've worked out there, the Yorkville facility unfortunately changed their hours to 24/5. I hope they change back to 24/7 sometime soon. COVID is no longer justification for the shortened hours. I believe most PF patrons feel the 24/7 availability is a meaningful component of PF's value proposition.

OWNERSHIP: I believe the difference in facility maintenance between Yorkville and Montgomery is attributable to different owners, possibly coupled with the fact that the Yorkville facility is newer. In other words, the equipment quality and ownership attentiveness are better.

The equipment is maintained very well and there is alot of equipment so even when there are alot of people here midday you can still get in and knock out your workout. When I first started here, I was on dialysis, waiting on a phone call for transplant. I had to freeze my account because of loss of employment. But through that, I received the support from Austin and Wesley that worked in Yorkville. Not only did they understand why I had to stop coming by, they welcomed me back when I let them know I got my kidney transplant in May of this year. I’m one day away from six months with my organ and I feel great with a second chance at life!!!
Even though we joke around, I’m glad you both are here to help me get back on track with my health and my life. I can’t thank you both enough…….

Several people that I know have had issues with stop payments or cancelations to memberships due to COVID. Staff will not cooperate by providing management or owners information of this franchised gym. Multiple people have left paperwork to cancel or stop payments due to COVID but this location did not give a copy or transact the stoppage. (that was a mistake by those people for not asking but I guess that's what happens when people are supposed to trust a reputable company) It seems staff did not process these stops and cancelations. BEWARE OF THIS LOCATION AND GET COPIES OF EVERYTHING. I would not trust this location.

This place is an excellent value now that I reconsider everything.

I took one star off for my original, lol, just for that I'm going to 5 stars now

No free weight barbells, no hyperextension back machine, not for me.

It's a great gym with great amenities and pricing. When we first started going you only had to mask while going from equipment and off the floor. But the last time I went everyone was wearing a mask even while they were working out. It was absolutely horrible. It Felt like suffocating. I may not be back until the policy changes. Hope it's different now! It was great to have some freedom again.

a gym with a very respectable price point. equipments is in good condition and everything is well stocked. Adam is the best staff member, all other staff are very nice with an exception to an older, kinda short woman. I’m guessing her name is Mindy reading from other reviews but i can’t be too sure. Not a friendly person. Disappointed in the mask policy, even when actively in an exercise i have been told to wear a mask correctly. I guess rules are rules tho.

Weeks after the business reopens they billed me for an annual fee and a monthly fee. I spoke with an Austin who said as general manager he decided who gets refunds and that no corporate phone number was near him I would have to find contact information myself and he would not refund any money and I would need to request via email my cancellation. What terrible service! The business is closed for months and shortly after reopening they take fees and refuse refunds. If headaches, poor service and paper work with your bank trying to make sure they can't bull you again is your idea of fun.. Austin and P.F. is your kind of place.

Place clean and nice workers except crew after 10 pm. Not nice. Wonders off the counter waiting for him. To ask a question. He came from outside . His friend that did not work there. Came in from smoking the new legal substance. Other wise very nice place .
