I tried this through ClassPass and it was a great experience! Kathryn walked me through the machine before class started and even walks around the room to help her students. I liked how this place wasn’t dark and I could actually hear the instructor without the music blasting.

The instructors here are amazing, motivating, knowledgeable, hands-on, and super friendly. They’ll even work with you one-on-one before class if it’s your first time, which really helps. I recommend watching some of their videos on the website beforehand so you can get familiar with the exercises and Lagree positions. If you arrive early, they’ll show you exactly how to use the Megaformer machine so you feel comfortable.
The workouts are fun and always challenging in a good way. It’s definitely different from traditional strength training. I always leave feeling both stronger and mentally refreshed. My first time visiting a couple of years ago, I thought it was tough, but after a few sessions it got easier (though still a great challenge!). I noticed my core getting stronger and flatter, which is one of my favorite results.
If you ever need extra balance, don’t hesitate to use one of the balance poles (I’m not sure what they’re officially called, but they’re super helpful for form!). Not many people use them, but they make a big difference when you’re still getting used to the movements.
There’s plenty of parking, either in their free lot or on the street, which makes it really convenient. Overall, this studio has such a welcoming, supportive vibe. It’s a great place for anyone serious about getting a strong, toned body while feeling motivated every time you leave!

Resistance Lagree is incredible! I planned a private event with the studio, and the owner, Erin, was awesome to work with. This was my second class taught by Zainab, and she made the class fun, empowering, and easy to understand as a beginner. The class is challenging, but you never feel like you can't complete the next set of exercises, and you will have so much fun in the process!

As a Lagree instructor, I'm pretty picky about where I'll take classes- but anytime I'm in Chicago, Resistance is definitely a MUST-go. They know how to deliver the 3 S's of Lagree- shake, sweat, sore! If you are on the fence, just book a class, you will not regret it!

I’ve come in a few time with ClassPass and really enjoyed the studio and class. It’s challenging but well-paced to avoid overworking any one muscle group during the class. Friendly & professional staff! I really enjoyed Mateo’s class, he’s very encouraging when making any corrections/adjustments which I like since I’m very entry-level

This place is spectacular - my favorite pilates studio in all of Chicago. Workouts are challenging, but the instructors and vibe is more relaxed than other lagree studios (no stressful lights or un-matchable pace). I love the founder and the group of instructors she developed! I went there often before my wedding and it helped with my physical health, posture, and metal wellbeing <3

Resistance Lagree is fantastic! My wife and I go weekly, and it’s become one of the highlights of our week. Katherine is incredible—she brings such energy and expertise, pushing us each week to get stronger. Lagree is one of the hardest yet most rewarding workouts, especially for building core strength, stability, and flexibility.

Really clean and modern studio! I took a class for the first time because my usual Pilates studio was full at the time I wanted to take a class. I never got a run down of how the machines worked. Luckily I was familiar with the Lagree but I felt pretty confused with everyone else in the class when transitioning to the next move. The instructor seemed good, just getting into the new moves was a bit tricky for all of us. Unsure if I’ll come back but seems like a cool concept with the treadmills! Have never seen that before

I'm new to Resistance and I felt welcomed. I'm not the athletic type. Erin took the time to introduce me to the machine and demonstrate moves we would be doing in class. During class, she helped change the springs and she corrected my alignment. The class is tough, but moves can be modified for all levels. Erin's class is beginner friendly and I am already planning on taking my next class.

This class was a horrible experience and I left early. I have done many Lagree classes and decided to give this class a shot. I unfortunately ran late to my first class, which I recognize was on me as I know every machine is different. However, right from the moment I entered class, Erin (the owner and instructor) belittled me and made me feel unwelcome. She opened with a frown on her face when I walked in and said "you shouldn't have been let in." When she asked me if I knew how to change the springs, I told her I have changed springs before, and she retorted "well this machine is different." Rather than making me feel welcome and saying something like "don't worry about the springs, I'll change them for you this class," the rest of the class included "don't do that" type comments. I felt like I was constantly being attacked, to the point where I decided to leave class because I didn't feel safe emotionally. I don't raise the prejudice flag lightly, but I felt that Erin did make assumptions about me, my approach to class and my experience based on my appearance. Erin seemed confused that I was leaving, and made no effort to apologize. Save yourself the experience and go down the street to Solidcore - you'll find a more welcoming and friendly team, with a better workout. This place has a lot to learn about customer service and creating a supportive environment for everyone.

I’m in town visiting friends and family and wanted to practice Lagree. I found Resistence on MINDBODY and am so glad I signed up this morning! The instructor for my class was Erin, and she is the sweetest human that also happens to own the studio alongside her husband. Her cues were clear and helpful, she demoed moves, offered encouragement to every person in the class directly. The studio itself is beautiful and meticulously maintained. I had the best workout and will definitely be back when I’m in Chicago again!

My usual workout is traditional strength training in the gym, but I've been having trouble consistently engaging my core in just normal daily activities which has led to a tight lower back. Because lagree focuses on slow movements, I thought it would be a good option to help with body awareness/focus to help change my normal pattern of movement.
I took my first class with Erin on 7/11/2023, and was so surprised at how challenging (in a good way) and effective I found it! It was immediately easy for me to feel my core rather than my back working which is just what I was looking for.
The process of getting in was super easy. I booked on MindBody and was offered a first class discount. I arrived at the Studio and was shown to a locker where I could secure my things. They have two bathrooms and a cooler full of beverages for purchase. I took a complimentary towel to my station.
I appreciated that the workout space was away from windows to decrease distraction. There were floor to ceiling mirrors on each side of the studio, so that no matter what direction we were facing it was easy to check my form. There was only one row of reformers which was great, nothing obscuring my view to the mirrors.
Erin was an awesome instructor. I arrived early and she introduced herself and asked my name, then gave me a quick tutorial on the machine. During class she would demonstrate the move, then walk around and correct people's form/give encouragement. For me, getting used to the machine and positions was a bit of a learning curve, so I really appreciated that Erin would repeat instructions multiple times to make sure everyone heard and would be in the correct position. While I did look at others to make sure I was on the right track, I didn't have to rely solely on that.
Finally, the class size is great. I've been to HIIT, cycling and yoga classes where there are 30+ people. While the energy of a room with that many bodies in can be awesome, I appreciate and most of the time prefer the capacity for an the teacher to be able to give 1:1 attention.
If you're looking for an intimate, effective workout in a welcoming setting, I definitely recommend taking your lagree class with Resistance! I'll definitely be back.

I arrived a couple of minutes before class, same as others, and they wouldn’t let me in due to it being my first class at this studio. I explained i’ve taken lagree classes at multiple studios. This hasn’t been an issue at other lagree studios.

Wonderful studio and staff + a killer workout! I took my first class with Erin, who was an amazing instructor - while I was nervous as a newbie, she was very patient, informative and encouraging throughout the entire class. Plus, she somehow kept the rest of the class moving while helping me throughout without making me feel like I was slowing anyone down - an impressive balance to have. I can feel based on my muscles today that this was such a full body workout and I'm looking forward to continue working on strength training here. Such a welcoming community in the class too - I like that these classes are small groups so it doesn't feel overwhelming. The studio itself is so light and airy, I immediately felt relaxed upon walking in. Do yourself a favor and check out Resistance!

After falling into a sedentary routine during the pandemic and gaining some serious weight, I wanted to make a change for myself. Unfortunately, every time I went to the gym to make a fresh start of things, I would overdo it and spend weeks recovering.
Enter Resistance Chicago. From the very beginning, the trainers were enormously supportive and helpful. The classes are well thought out and challenged me each day in new and rewarding ways. There’s even a hybrid Pilates and Treadmill session for some serious cardio. Eight months after my first workout here, I’ve never felt better about my body.
With my empathic endorsement out of the way, let me wrap this review up with some tips for newcomers. Remember to bring a pair of non-slip socks (you can find them on Amazon or buy a pair in the studio). Next, I’d suggest taking at least three classes within a week, preferably with two consecutively to stave off soreness. No matter what, don’t be discouraged. It takes a while to adapt. Finally, remember to go as slow as possible in your movements; Pilates is about endurance, not speed.
Give it a try; you’ve got this.

I've done Barre for many years and started taking Pilates to help some chronic back issues. I took my first reformer Pilates class last November at a studio (the one that plays pounding music) and loved the isolation that the reformer gave, but HATED the fast pacing.
Since then, I've tried pretty much every single studio located in the Chicago-area, and Resistance is by far my favorite! The instructors are fantastic and I adore the emphasis on slow, controlled movements. I've always felt challenged, but never rushed. The machines also feel really good - this is a nit, but some of the studios I've been to have inconsistent spring tension.
I will continue to rave about Resistance to everyone I know!

Size: Small fitness classes will become my preferred alternative to my regular gym for quite some time. The machines are staggered and spaced out, which helps significantly when viewing the instructor/others, especially if this is your first time.
Cleanliness: The founders invested in air filtration and the moving air was comfortably felt during the entire class. Additionally, a mask (or shield) is required, there are plenty of wipes/towels/spray bottles to clean the machines, and they turn on UV lights between classes. There are also lockers in front to store your belongings.
Workout: This was my first Lagree class and I was blown away by the quality of the 45 minute workout and instructor (Ross). As someone who runs daily, I see these classes greatly improving my stability, core, glutes, and quads.

The instructors are very clear with their direction (good for a noob like me), class moves efficiently without down time between exercises, and there always (I've been to four classes) seems to be a good mix of people who actually know what they're doing that I can learn from.
Also the machines are the newest version I think and in top quality, not the case at some studios.
