I dropped in from out of town to do my weightlifting program and it was a very straightforward experience! Website info was accurate and I was able to pay and fill out the waiver online before I came in. There’s more space than it initially looks like so be sure to walk around!! Seems like a super chill group of folks. Would def come back.

Dropped in this morning for Saturday's partner wod and it was an outstanding challenger! Been doing crossfit for 6 years and this was a wod i will totally do again! It mixed cardio (row and bike), DBs (devil press and C&J), gymnastics (MUs and HSPU) and barbells (hang clean and S2OH) Ryan was an awesome coach - very encouraging with great guidance! Helped me string my MUs today! Jessica was another coach who partnered with me and she was so positive and motivating! Wonderful facility, clean and spacious! A great way to start my day! Thank you so much!

I've been with SLSC for over 2 years and can't recommend it enough. Great community and coaches across both CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting. Love their programming, and was able to hit PRs on deadlifts, muscle ups, double unders, handstands, and snatches. Sadly had to move out of Chicago but will miss SLSC the most.

I've never had a solid gym community before, so joining SLSC has been a game changer! I'm used to lifting by myself; never considered trying Olympic Weightlifting until I walked in for my consultation but I'm almost finished month 2 and loving it! The coaches and lifting crew are all super supportive. The lifts can be really intimidating, s/o Coach Ryan, Stephanie, and Alvaro for giving me great pointers and the confidence to go heavier.

If you’ve never done Olympic Weightlifting before, I can sincerely vouch for SLSC as a great place to learn.

Dropped into South Loop Strength & Conditioning for a CrossFit classβ€”$25 well spent. Coaches were super welcoming and knew their stuff. The workout was tough but doable, and the vibe was all about community, not ego. Only downside? The space gets a bit tight during peak hours. But if you're in the South Loop and want a solid sweat session with good people, this spot's a winner.

This place is amazing. I’ve been dropping in to SLSC for close to 10 years now (I visit Chicago once to twice a year) and cannot leave the city before working out at least twice at this place. It’s truly extraordinary. The coaches and instruction are absolutely top-notch. Just another level of excellence than what I find in most gyms. From the warm-up, to cardio to technical lifting. The coaching is off the charts and they do a lot to make a drop in feel welcome and at home. The programming is brilliant, too! I always get better at this gym I love this place, and strongly recommend it to anyone looking to drop in.

I’ve been CrossFiting since 2009 and I can say without a doubt this is one of the best CrossFit gyms I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to almost every state, Canada , Australia

Nicest part that I really really enjoyed was the fact that it’s right there in the neighborhood so you don’t feel disconnected from the rest of the world nice view while you’re working, not your normal behind some commercial building location,

and the workouts are awesome and intense .

And the coaches are very attentive to make sure you know the movements and how to do the movements by demonstrating and then working with you .

Not just whiteboard talk .

If I lived in Chicago I'd go to this gym every day! I frequently visit family in the area and always drop in when I'm in town, and I've always had a wonderful experience. The coaches are very welcoming, knowledgable, and patient with new people, the members are friendly and inclusive, and the workouts are always fun but challenging. The gym is very well-equipped and clean, and even when I've worked out with larger classes, it never feels too crowded. It's also in a great location in the city. I'm always excited for my workouts at South Loop and am already looking forward to the next time I'm in Chicago and can drop in again!

I’ve been a member at SLSC for a little over a year, with no prior CrossFit experience.

Simply put, this is the best workout. The group workouts (6:30 pm crew!) are well planned out, fun, and challenging. Everyone positively supports and encourages each other.

The coaches and staff are the best around and really care. They make all levels feel welcome, teach proper technique, and offer one-on-one advice during classes (and play good music!).

I've been attending SLSC for over 3 years now, and I couldn't recommend it more highly.

The quality of coaching is exceptional, knowledgeable but also incredibly passionate about helping members reach their fitness goals, whether you're a seasoned athlete or a total beginner. Stumbled upon South Loop S&C after searching for personal training in the Chicago area. With only not so great PT experiences in larger chain gyms to go off, I was hesitant to even book an initial consult. But I found the website really inviting and informative, and there was even a helpful β€˜what to expect during the consult’ video.

My consult was during a busy time at the gym and it was intimidating, at first, but thankfully that settled after talking with Coach Taylor. Taylor took care in trying to get to know where I’m at and explain the gym, process, training, weights.. really anything I asked since almost all of it was new to me. It was so welcoming that I was able to let go of feeling out of place or concerned in what I could/couldn't do.

I’m weeks into my 1:1 PT now and I can say it’s been worth the time and investment! Every session, Coach Taylor impresses me with her knowledge, preparation and support the entire hour of training. She’s helping me work through injuries and gain strength in ways I now know I wouldn’t have been able to do on my own. And I really appreciate her adaptive and inclusive training expertise.

To anyone wanting to try personal training or gym curious, I definitely recommend South Loop Strength & Conditioning!

My only regret is not joining this gym sooner! I have loved my experience at South Loop and it has become a warm, welcoming community that I look forward to going to every day. SLSC is my happy place! I stumbled upon this gem eight years ago when I first moved to Chicago, and since then, I've tried other gyms, but none compare to this one.

The facility is amazing, equipped with everything you need for your workouts, whether you're a CrossFitter or Olympic Weightlifter (I've been both). But what truly sets SLSC apart is the community. It's not just a gym; it's a welcoming and tight-knit group where everyone supports and encourages each other.

The coaches at SLSC are exceptional. Their knowledge and dedication are evident in every session, every cue, and every interaction. This isn't just a class to them, they genuinely care about each athlete's progress and are always striving to enhance the overall experience.

Regardless of what your experience level is, the coaches at SLSC are there to support you with whatever your goals might be.

I can't say enough positive things about SLSC!

SLSC is home to me.

The facility is fantastic, the coaches are knowledgeable, and the community is strong and welcoming.

SLSC coaches really care and are constantly working to improve themselves, the facilities, and the overall athlete experience.

Whether you're just starting your CrossFit or weightlifting journey, or you're a seasoned athlete, these coaches are ready to help you work towards achieving your goals, and will continuously inspire you each and every day.

I am very grateful for this gym and its community. I can't imagine lifting elsewhere.

My husband has been attending SLSC for many years, he's absolutely thrilled with it and convinced me to give it a try. I was uncertain I could do it, given my minimal exposure to sports up until that point. I've been going for over a year now, mainly training individually with Taylor (and I feel incredibly lucky!) and occasionally attending CrossFit groups. As a result, a whole amazing world of weightlifting has opened up to me! For the first time, I have friends who compete in very serious championships. And the fact that I'm not training professionally is no issue: I can follow my favorite coaches on Instagram and root for them. This is not something you expect from a gym, but I also can't help but mention the dog- and child-friendly environment, which makes me smile almost more than the endorphins after a workout. Not to mention the fantastic parties!

β˜… 5

I've never been much of a sports enthusiast; it's not exactly my thing. To me, the gym has always been a bit of an intimidating space. When you first walk into SLSC, what strikes you is the extraordinary level of both the athletes and the coaches. At first, it was a bit scary, but then, because of the awesome atmosphere and amazing people and all that, I got hooked, and it turned out that even for a complete newbie, training among hardcore professionals is fantastic. Since then, I've been a regular there for about a year before COVID and three years after. Now, I balance my CrossFit sessions in three equal parts: solo workouts, group classes, and personal training with Taylor. Besides the coaches' extreme professionalism, I must say that the group classes lack that annoying cheer-up encouragement, which I think is a huge plus. The coaches help and support but aren't overbearing. In a nutshell, the main thing I want to say is, if you're new to CrossFit or sports in general, starting with top-notch professionals is key, which is why SLSC is so cool.

SLSC has the highest caliber of coaches and staff development that I've ever experience not only in the crossfit/weightlifting field, but in the entire fitness industry. If you're apprehensive about starting something new, this is a great place to be. If you're a crossfitter looking for a drop in, this is a legit spot that will scratch that wod itch while you're traveling. If you're looking for specialized help with personal training or nutrition, you'll also be in talented, highly educated hands.

The facility is well maintained and there is a diverse array of equipment to keep exercise interesting. The classes are humbling and challenging and soon become so fulfilling.

This gym has an exceptional community of coaches and members that make something hard welcoming and accessible. The staff has always gone above and beyond to know their craft, learn to be better coaches and teachers, and meet every individual where they are at in whatever journey they are on. They genuinely want to be better at what they do for their members, including taking feedback seriously, adapting to what members need, and regularly continuing their education and certifications in both crossfit and weightlifting.

Another huge perk that I appreciated was the flexibility for member access outside of class times. Other gyms I have been a member of have had limiting hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and weekends that made it really challenging with my work schedule. I was able to truly fit exercise into my busy schedule, which was a game changer.

11/10 highly recommend.

At age 42 and not having worked out seriously in a few years, I was a little intimidated to start. I’m so glad I did. Coach Ryan walked me through elements and all of the coaching staff has been very welcoming and helpful. Coach Vickie usually gets me through the lunch break at noon. The other members are always supportive and great to work out with.

SLSC is an amazing combination of both CrossFit and Olympic Lifting communities. With extensive facilities and a fantastic coaching staff, SLSC is easily one of the best gyms in the Chicago to get started or continue your fitness journey - regardless of your experience or long term goals.

The gym ownership is present and very much a part of the community, PT services are available on site various days a week, and the gym is kid and dog friendly - with optional off hours access making it easy to stick with your fitness routine regardless of schedule.

I would encourage anyone who is looking for a new gym 'home' in Chicago or just dropping in from outside Illinois, to come by and check out everything SLSC has to offer.

Top-notch training facility perfectly equipped for crossfit, olympic weightlifting, general health/fitness, personal training, sports med, etc.

Rest assured, the adrenaline rush that follows entering the door will be replaced in no time at all by a most welcoming vibe, courtesy the friendly and talented staff seen and heard making fitness and/or sport accessible, achievable, and fun for everyone. (Then, another funner adrenaline rush after you get properly warmed up and going.)

Whether you're looking for a sanctuary to win your morning or a world championship, a place to melt away the stresses in the evening or squeeze in a session before your next meeting, South Loop S&C, nestled amongst charming stores and good eats for your convenience and delight (after you've broken a sweat of course), might just be what you need to infuse fun back into into your daily priorities.

Special notes for weightlifters:
Good hours of operation.
The platforms are maintained and reasonably flat.
The plates are sturdy and of high quality.
There are abundant bars, all of which spin quite nicely.
Squat racks abound.
Chalk, tape, belts, and lifting straps available.

I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Strength Coach that started training at SLSC about a year ago. I wanted to make Olympic weightlifting a regular part of my training so I joined the Oly class that meets 4 times per week. Every time I am able to make it to class I learn something new from the knowledgeable coaches that I can add to my own practice and personal lifting. Through hanging out at the gym and attending the seasonal holiday parties I have also gotten to know many of the other coaches and gym goers from other classes. As someone who has trained in many different kinds of gyms over the years SLSC truly stands out as being a real community without being in your face. Every coach and member I have run into is welcoming and brings their own valuable experience to the table. Point blank I would highly recommend this gym.

I’m so thankful I joined this gym in 2022 as the community is incredibly welcoming and supportive. All of the coaches are very knowledgeable and bring their all to make it fun, always helpful in figuring out how to make a workout work for you. Everyone encourages each other and has a sense of humor, which makes helps me keep striving even when a workout feels challenging. I appreciate how I can accomplish several different goals within the same community - I attend olympic weightlifting classes with very detailed coaching and programming, attend CrossFit classes that are challenging yet scalable, and then come in pretty much anytime for open gym time when I want to move at my own pace. I’m also very thankful that my teenage daughter feels at home in this community and has benefited from personal training, customized workouts, and classes that have met her evolving needs as an athlete.

While attending the 2022 American Geophysical Union Meeting in Chicago, I was fortunate enough to have this facility available to work on my Weightlifting. The facility is clean, well-stocked, and well-run. Moreover, the people I met, particularly Kris, Mike, and Taylor, were welcoming, kind and encouraging. Though an outsider, I felt right at home. Is CrossFit or Weightlifting your shtick? Are you looking for a place to get a quick workout during open gym hours? In that case, I cannot recommend South Loop Strength & Conditioning enough.

We dropped in with my girlfriend last week.

You have a great facility but when I drop in at least I hope for the coach to meet and introduce to us and to the class, but when the first words that you receive are β€œdid you pay the drop in?”, I know the class will not be good.

25$ for a drop in where the coach don’t explain the class, don’t correct people and make you feel like you are losing the time, is a place which I will not recommend to anyone

On my trip to Chicago I almost didn't go to this crossfit only because I thought I picked 3 better ones to visit. Then my last day I popped in on a walk and commenced myself to do one more workout. The best way I can explain it is that this box is what crossfit is ment to be. Everything was amazing from the front desk, clean bathrooms, friendly members, to the coaching and facility's. If I could go back I would have worked out my full week there. It might not mean much from me, but if you can make a small town guy in the middle of the city feel at home, your doing something right.

I have to admit - I was a CrossfFt skeptic. Having worked in the fitness industry in my past life, the lack of good coaches and protocol at many boxes really frightened me. But when I moved to Chicago, I was looking for a home gym, and I decided to give it a shot. I'm a converter. The coaches, and I do mean all of them, are phenomenal. I kept expecting a class where I didn't feel I was getting corrected or pushed to the right level (aka, too far), but it never happened. Join for the coaches, stay for the workouts. You won't regret it. I didn't.

This gym has totally changed my life. 8 weeks ago, I signed up for their 6 week women's crossfit challenge. Having never really worked out in a gym environment before, I was a little intimidated at first.

I was honestly shocked even just on the first day at how welcoming and accepting everyone was! The coaches are wonderful. I am so impressed with their ability to help beginners like me learn from the ground up. It was good to step out of my comfort zone, but I never once felt like I was pushed too far. They are extremely detail-oriented and want to make sure you are learning all the technical skills properly, so you are in great hands!

After the six week challenge was up, I signed up for the monthly membership immediately! Honestly, there are other crossfit gyms much closer to my house. But I drive from the opposite end of the city because I love this place and all the people there, coaches and members! There's an undeniable family environment and the open, accepting atmosphere is contagious.

After the challenge, I continue to be impressed with the coaches and their hands-on training. They take the time to get to know each individual's strengths and weaknesses, and are excellent at what they do.

Signing up for South Loop was the best decision I've ever made! Can't wait to see where I'm at one year from now, and it's all thanks to this wonderful place!

TL;DR - 3 months into my first Crossfit gym experience, SLSC has exceeded my every expectation.

I'll add my voice to the chorus of others saying laudatory things about South Loop Strength & Conditioning.

My background: played team sports my whole life through college (Division 3). College ended and I had a few brief, unproductive stints with normal gyms. For some, they work great. I'm probably less self-motivated and just really enjoy working out with a group. I was reluctant to try Crossfit for the same reason many are: it ain't cheap. In my case, I took the plunge on their no-commitment monthlong trial and, at the end, couldn't think of not continuing.

It's my first real Crossfit experience and so I have less to say in comparison to other boxes. I will say, amongst other members with experience at other boxes, the prevailing opinion seems to be that this is a top notch business. My experience has been consistent with that.

Specifically:

1. Commitment - The owners are around, present, approachable, and genuinely seem to care about the members beyond just collecting dues. They seem to do doing it "the right way" and building a place that people will want to stay with for the long term.

2. Knowledge - Coaches, owners, and other experienced members seem educated and committed to not only teaching, but teaching the right way. They stress safety and form, knowing that once those are in place the results inevitable follow.

3. Versatility - There is a range of fitness and experience levels here, and they do a really good job of helping you get out whatever you want to put in. Crossfit games ambitions? Great. Busy with work and want to pop in a couple of times per week to blow off steam and stay healthy? They've got you there, too.

4. Community - As a first-timer, I was naturally a little unsure. Owners, coaches, and members are universally friendly and approachable. They really made a new guy feel welcomed.

5. Results - It's easiest to improve when you've been drinking beer on the couch for six years, as I had been, but even after 3 months I'm seeing very tangible results basically just by showing up and doing as told.

I have had the pleasure of spending some time at South Loop Strength & Conditioning with Todd and his team. The gym is not your typical chain type gym with treadmills and machines everywhere, it is new and innovative and offers group classes and well as private coaching and nutritional counseling. At first I was hesitant about a "cossfit" atmosphere (I had a previous hip injury and have to be mindful of what I'm doing), but my concerns were quickly put to rest within just a few minutes of stepping inside the building and taking a class.

Todd is extremely knowledgeable and passionate and can evaluate what you are doing and give you ways to improve your form and ways to get the most out of your workout. He is able to tailor a routine to any individual that will best fit their health and fitness goals. As I chiropractor I highly recommend Todd and his team of trainers! If you are feeling stuck in your routine or seem to have reached a plateau in your workouts and progress, or just looking for a change, South Loop Cross Fit is the place to go!
