I'm a professional MMA fighter. I've been working with steve and Kendyl since I moved to Chicago two year ago. They're so knowledgeable, aware of what every athlete needs and answer all my questions. We put on goals and hit them all the time. I'm glad to be part of the functional athlete. Looking forward to get better. This place is the life changer.

My daughters (11 & 8) have been training at Functional Athlete with Kendyl and Steve for the last 10 months in a program put together specifically for their sport. We have seen incredible results and have received positive feedback from their coaches. The girls train hard but enjoy themselves and the staff always has innovative ways to keep them engaged, motivated, and achieving their goals

I have been training at The Functional Athlete for 8 years now. I absolutely love this family. Steve is an respectful, very knowledgeable and truly cares for his athletes. I have trained and worked at numerous gyms across the U.S. This is not a gym who just throws workouts together because they look cool and will feel good. Each workout, each phase is meticulously thought out and planned according to the athlete's specific sport. As a professional athlete Steve and The FA staff have taken my athleticism far past my goals and have truly helped me take my career to the next level. Thank you, The Functional Athlete you are the BEST!!!

Steve, Kendall and the other trainers are awesome. I've been weight training for more than 30 years & have done basic strength training, powerlifting/olympic lifting, Crossfit, and various iterations of each.

Functional Athlete trainers have me doing things I've never done before - but not weird, dumb stuff that's different just for the sake of being different. It all makes sense and has a logical place in the overall program structure.

They really geek out on the programming side of things, which helps someone like me who's been doing variations of the same stuff for years and was looking for something different.

They like clients to be goal-oriented, and will help you to identify them if need be. Then, the trainers set you up with a program that builds upon itself, changing periodically to ensure things don't get stale.

The trainers are really helpful, patient, and seem to have lots of experience working with a wide-ranging clientele, from elementary school kids through high school athletes, middle aged folks (like myself), and geriatric clients looking to improve their basic strength and balance.

I've seen a few MMA fighters training there, as well as LTHS football and hockey players, girls volleyball players, and other adolescent athletes.

Overall, it's a no frills, workmanlike gym; one that's a serious place for people who are serious about getting in shape, staying in shape, or improving their athletic ability.

Understand that it's NOT a meat-head, hardcore sausage fest, though - it's a healthy, comfortable environment that's empowering (for lack of a better word), which is why both my daughters work out here as well (aged 15 & 13).

Highly recommended.
